but i'm pretty discouraged by this new breed of horror which either seems to be a quick-cut J-horror remake, something with torture, or yet another Zombie movie. I love me some zombies, but how many movies it going to take until no one gives a shit anymore? For me it's getting close. And i was thinking of checking out Otis, but now I'm not sure. I'm really tired of the 'torture' as a form of horror. I've seen some nasty shit in my horror viewing days, but I think torture is the lasiest technique to use to create horror.

I put this in the last Dance of the Dead post, but this flick's cool. The Other Side is Gregg Bishop's first movie and I can't recommend it enough. It's one of these cool little movies that fell under the radar. I like it so much that I've given it to two people as gifts. Yes, it's avaliable on DVD. In a nutshell: People who escape from Hell are hunted down by Reapers to take them back. The action scenes have the energy of early Robert Rodriguez. I originally saw it at Shriekfest, a little horror movie festival in L.A. I have no association with Greg Bishop. I just dig his movie. Can't wait to see Dance of the Dead; it sounds awesome.

Is NOT a newcomer. He was actually the dude in Unbreakable who throws Sam Jackson out of the comic book shop. That's a really good scene with some great back and forth. Otis sounds cool, FBI guy aside.

After the disapointment of Diary maybee a comedic style Return of The Living Dead is a better way to go with the whole Zombie thing. Ol' George had a few daft moments like the Amish guy and the Mummy thing but it just felt uncomfy! Watched Planet Terror and Black Sheep last night and I'll take propper zombies any day of the week over zombie sheep! that movie was shit! Planet Terror had the gore but was just dumb and seemed like Rodriguez was just Explodin stuff coz he could! bit like his Spy Kids movies where he just has FX coz he can!? and it was all a bit too much of a bad John Carpenter RIP which I guess was the Point. Anyway hope Dance gets released!
