I don't know about that. Yeah, I've never found the Hildog/Obama sketches to be very funny, but SNL has made some of my favorite jokes about Bush.
Maybe this week they will do "celebrity trapped in an elevator".

You know the one: where the host is trapped in a slow moving elevator, playing themselves, and SNL cast members have uncomfortable conversations with them. God I love those.

Lorne Michaels would have had Hitler on SNL...
by Prof. Pop-Cult
Mar 8th, 2008
03:14:19 PM
And I'm sure Hitler would have come across as a pretty funny dude, too. Is this a harsh, inappropriate comment? To be honest, I very tired and annoyed that politicians have been using SNL to further their agendas. What happened to using comic impersonators to skewer the politicians?

Whatever. Its obvious they love Hillary. Might as well endorse her candidacy. And will the digital short be borderline racist again? On the other hand, Amy Adams seems like a nice down to earth girl. Too bad she will take part in this suckfest.

SNL helped Hillary win
by zooch

03:43:37 PM
After the media was called bias by SNL they started amplifing Clinton's attacks on Obama and suddenly got soft on Clinton. Also SNL is helping Hillary's image by having her appear on the show friendly and funny, while protraying Obama as this mono-syllabic stiff bore.

They'll stop sucking Hillary's dick. I wonder, if Obama played the victim card would SNL have stepped up to try and save his candidacy? Probably not. So was the SNL bullshit a way for NBC to apologize for Shuster's "pimping out" remark on MSNBC? Probably.

is that their only point seems to be, and I referencing Tina Feys Weekend Update rant, that she is a woman ergo she is good. I always took Fey for a pretty intelligent person, I didn't think she'd stoop to such base politics. more importantly it wasn't funny, it was just a comedian ranting on a television show. I actually don't mind when celebrities talk politics in interviews or what not, but using a comedy show for a blatant political rant that doesn't even attempt comedy is weak sauce.

Herc... you say Amy Adams "played the title character... in 'The Office.' Really? Wouldn't that mean she played the office itself? How'd she get the whole cast in there? Isn't it a title role only if the character being portrayed is also the tile of the work--like 'Michael Clayton'?

Seriously, L. Michaels and SNL should just endorse a candidate
by Jim Jam Bongs
Mar 8th, 2008
10:48:46 PM
They should just admit that they want Clinton. The Daily Show and Colbert Report pretty much admit whom they endorse. I have to respect Fox News for at least being blatant about whom they support. The problem with SNL and Lorne Michaels is that they pretend to be the Court Jester by not officially taking a side. But really, what happens is that they neutralize any anti-establishment viewpoint with that kind of stance. Not only did they help Clinton win Ohio and the Texas primaries (though Obama has won the most Texas delegates), they helped Bush win in 2000 and 2004. Notice how they didn't do much political material in 2006, and the Democrats took back Congress that year.

Bottom line: Lorne Michaels, you should just come right out and endorse a candidate and quit this waffling. I'm calling you out, sir.

by Jim Jam Bongs
Mar 8th, 2008
10:59:03 PM
But back in their earlier years, they clearly did stand for something and a side. This so-called "neutral" posturing only aids the establishment -- it creates this sense among the public "haha, all politicians are the same -- screw them all, why vote?" That is very damaging. This week they rag on Clinton. Well, next week, it will be Obamam, and they will trot out the impression where they imply he's no different than Gore. Then in another week they will do a sketch where McCain is a feeble minded old man. Back and forth. Who do you think politically this benefits? It's always the establishment candidate. Seriously, fuck SNL, NBC and Lorne Michaels. Don't stand up for this shit anymore.

But at this point, I think he and McCain should abstain from SNL. I think the two should meet, agree on this, and shake hands on it -- I'd have a lot of respect for both bros at that point. SNL has been exploiting politicians, and ruining the elections in the process. Daily Show, Colbert, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh are different: They take a side and rally their like-minded faithful to the polls. SNL simply creates apathy which only leaves things the way they are. Somebody else also stated this here, but I will say it again: Fuck SNL. Lorne Michaels is a douchebag.

1:21am REPORT
by truthmaster
Mar 9th, 2008
12:21:00 AM
OPENING: Glad to see a different take on the Clinton-Obama thing. Amy's Hillary isn't ugly, fat, or screaming mean enough. Fred looks dead on as Barrack in the black & white photos. MONOLOGUE: Pleased they immediately acknowledged Adam's resemblance to Wiig. Nice little song; not sure if it's from a show or original, but they sounded good together. MIRROR IMAGE: Funny and cute. Breaking the fourth wall is always tv gold. Nice to see an "evil-twin" version of the old twin shows. Adam's is cute as a button and doesn't stare at the cards. "Wink!" "Fart!" MARRIAGE COUNSELOR: Not too bad. Nothing to really hate on. I kinda liked it. DIGITAL SHORT: The great thing about these is that you never know where they're gonna go. I thought the super-hero was the twist, but then the joke immediately turns to his getting his ass kicked...for a LONG time. We just laughed harder 'cause the punches wouldn't stop. THAT'S what would happen if somebody thought they could be a real-life Batman. BRAVO SKETCH: Adam's looks adorable dressed as anyone, but really cute as Heidi Klum. I don't know any of the shows they were referrencing, but it was semi-amusing in its own right, I suppose. VAMPIRE WEEKEND: Not familiar with them. They weren't bad, they just kinda went by too quickly. A lot of the problem with bands on SNL is the sound is set up by NBC techs and NOT the band's normal crew due to union rules. Most of the time the mix sounds tinny. WEEKEND UPDATE: This has been consistently good. The "guests" were pretty good, even Jean K. Jean. I always like Tim Calhoun. No "special" guests this week, unlike last week's guest-fest. PENELOPE: She's a good character, EXCEPT I can't understand why they started ending each of her appearances with her demostrating a new power, indicating she's NOT exaggerating!!! It ruins the joke for me every time. BBQ/OUT PATIENT SURGERY: Funny concept I've batted around a few time myself (ex. so and so's Pet shop & Sushi bar). I like Forte, but kinda fell a little flat. I actually think "Those aren't MY ribs are they?" probably inspired the whole idea. Funny line anyway. KEENAN'S INFOMERCIAL: Wasn't really watching. I feel sorry for him, especially when the audience is stone silent. I think his line at the end of the sketch, "This isn't going very well for me" was either an honest adlib or simply just ironic. THE DANCING CHICKS: Same dance to different songs. I get it. Some things seem better when you act them out drunk at bar. THE GOODBYES: Simple this week. No "I'd like to thank Mike Huckabee, Hillary Clinton, Steve Martin, and the guy from one of the Law & Order shows." Just a clean and simple "Had a great time. Thanks, musical guest." OVERALL: Worth my time, good and bad. The best part about watching SNL LIVE is checking the Talkbacks to see what everyone says during the commercial breaks. One more to go. Not bad at for my money. Definitely more laughs than last week. And hey, count my "cutes" will ya? Thanks.

Growing up in the early 80's. I used to record on my VCR all day. On a VHS Tape I called "The Fucked Up Tape." I called it that because it was usually a messed up VHS tape I would use. I went through a lot of fucked up tapes through the years. I wanted to record everything that was on. I mean I didn't wanna miss anything on TV. Well now we have Tivo/DVR. Apparently someone was thinking the way I do. DVR though has messed up how I watch TV. For Example I just watched tonights SNL. By fast fwding through it and stopping it when it looked like something interested me. As child growing up on video games and MTV's fast editing. I've developed rapid eye viewing. I can flip through channels super fast and see what everything is in miliseconds. This pisses some people off when they watch TV with me. Usually they'll say, how can you see that? tell me what was on the last ten channels you just passed. I then proceed to tell them and their minds get blown.

Truly horrendous. Bad. Of course, made in Canada. But WHAT is this horrible trend lately of cutting to the commercial in the MIDDLE of a chase scene. They build up whatever suspense there is, then BLAM, it's DQ or Taco Bell in your face. FIVE minutes later, they "conclude" the chase, and you don't give a shit. CGI is PAINFUL - "Ogre" looks like an even more cartoonish Shrek on steroids.

I know that when the advance screenings came in here there were many "meh" or "blah" reviews. But those trailers look pretty damn good, they've had time to re-edit and shuffle stuff around per audience screenings, and I LOVE Dog Soldiers and The Descent. So I dunno. I think I might end up seeing it despite the tepid AICN screening reviews. My only complaint about the trailers is that they've got the "This is OUR city!" line, which is very much a "This is SPARTA!" or "I am BEOWULF!" It even sounds a little like Gerard "thank god I won't be playing Snake Plissken" Butler.

What are you smoking? I guess some people enjoy endless, pointless punches to the face. Like I said above, he should've been wearing a Dead Horse costume. I don't get how you can hate on Pohler, who is one of the funnier performers on the show, and love the digital shorts. "Punch'd" is a great example. Funny for a few minutes, then eventually degenerating into retardation. If Pohler mugs, blame the shit she has to sell. She was gold on UCB and Arrested Development.

Tim Calhoun = Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey

Who said this... Calhoun or Deep Thinker Jack Handey?

"If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason."

If you guessed Calhoun...you'd be wrong...that was Handey circa 84...Exact same off the wall humor...now just personified uncomfortably by Will Forte.

Go back and watch it again...It's just Jack Handey-isms repackaged.

Vampires sucked. Keenan needs to move down the dial to MadTV pronto. Digital Short was ok...but I long for TV Fun House. The 2 opening Adams/Wiig twin sketches back-to-back was a really bad idea...should have been separated by a few skits.

Where's the "fake" commercials they used to put after the monologe? Seems like they are wasting an easy opportunity for laughs with those...we need another "Oops I Crapped My Pants" stat. If the budget for the Digital Shorts is taking away from fake ads, I'd rather have the fake ads.

Best joke has to be the "wet drug dealers" from Update...and ONLY make a Ghostbusters reference if you have Ackroyd, Ramis & Murray standing by off camera with unlicensed nuclear accelerators strapped to their backs to step in and save that pathetic song/joke.

I'd almost think someone here works at the San Fran paper after looking at it on Friday. There was an article where the main point of it seemed to be that no one watches SNL anymore. They were also ripping SNL for their unfunny take on Obama.

(first of all, is that supposed to be "Chief" or is it a proper name?)

The only connection between Calhoun and Deep Thoughts is they were both spoken in soft, almost monotonous voices. And more importantly, Deep Thoughts lasted 5-10 seconds. The lame Calhoun segment always drags on for like 5 unbearable minutes.

Man, I've been sticking to this show for five years, and I adore Wiig, Hader, Samberg, Forte (you forget MACGRUBER!), and Fred Armisen (two words: Iranian President). Amy Poehler can be and has been funny on many occasions, but they keep giving her all these decaffinated characters. But SERIOUSLY.

I agree, this is probably the richest cast the show has had since the Clinton administration (I'd add Sudeikis to that list too). Everyone bitches "fire him, she sucks", but when these guys are given some decent material to work with, they kill.

The cast work as writers too. The other writers are mostly there to serve the cast and flesh out ideas for them. If someone is the star of a sketch, you can pretty much bet they wrote it or came up with the concept. The cast is just as much to blame for the writing as the credited writers.

The song Amy and Kristen did is from "Wicked", it's called "What is this Feeling?". Amy was doing a pretty good Kristen Chenoweth impression I thought but the show went downhill after that. Seems to me the sketches just go on way too long now. The sketch with Amy Poehler as a Russian bride was the funniest bit, but it was also shorter than most. Even the Tina Fey episode wasn't as good as it could have been for that very reason, they just let the things go on about 2 minute longer than necessary.

Yes...the Calhoun sketch always goes on a lil too long...but I think that's by design...the same way the "punching" in the Digital Short went on way too long.

Forte is going for the "uncomfortable" laugh...and I sure Calhoun is there to get Poehler & Meyers to crack up...but all his jokes are right up Jack Handey's alley. I'd prefer Handey to Calhoun, but I see what they are "going for".

And yes...it's suppose to be "Chief"...but there was already a "Chief Brody" taken...who, BTW, has NEVER posted anything on this site as far as I can tell.

Not unlike the sketches, she's getting pretty old. Tiny Fey, former resident scarecrow, writes the same, predictable poilitical rhetoric. As for the corrupt Clinton: Why did she win this week? Credit Rush Limbaugh for prompting Republicans to vote for the 'ole cow just to "prolong the agony" of the Democrats' election (c'mon, SNL was pitching John Kerry as the #1 presidential candidate and guess who he lost to?). Fey is where she belongs--on a sitcom that draws smaller Nielsen ratings than a test pattern (NBC has exhaustively tried to shove her up the public's collective ass but nobody is buying). SNL has turned from iconic to "I have nothing better to do tonight." You want funny? Try CHELSEA LATELY--and she's way too good for SNL. As for Clinton, she was embodied by the Sci-Fi Channel's latest douchebag-of-the-week, OGRE; all mouth, growling, clueless and inexperienced with civil affairs.

And stop using ratings as evidence for poor quality. Look at The Wire! And Fey brought a lot of good stuff to SNL in the past. A lot of crappy stuff, too, I'll admit. It's when she goes all political that I can't stand her. Another mindless Hillary supporter who doesn't realize that her gender isn't why people won't vote for her. It's because they don't like her.

The dude's got a bad habit of pointing to ratings as a measure of quality. Whatzit, ratings and quality of a show do not equate. If that were the case, then American Idol would be the greatest TV show of all time. Chelsea Handler is a mediocre comedian who gets by largely on her looks. Which frankly appeal only to fans of big-titted idiot blondes. I'll take the brilliant comedian with the librarian look, thanks.

I'll concede that you're correct; ratings are not a barometer for quality. But when Mrs. Clinton (inevitably) loses the nomination, Fey and her ilk will accuse the entire nation of sexism. Wanna bet? Never mind that Hillary Clinton is a corrupt, egocentric bitch whose only experience has been dodging political scandal. She shouldn't be nominated for dog catcher. Fey acting as her surrogate p.r. managher is both unprofessional and truly pathetic. And, to whomever, Chelsea has big jugs but she has the talent to match.

C'mon, Chelsea taking a hammock ride with the E! brass? I really don't want to believe it. I mean, she took it on the chin when Howie Mandell was a guest; he lambasted the show (addressing the audience with, "It appears you brought your own folding chairs," etc.). I like her dialogue with the Grade-C celebs but I'm less impressed with the pre-taped segments (and the Latin midget as a co-host is stale). But at least she's pioneering a different venue for blonde hottys (compare to Pam Anderson who leans on divorces and tired Playboy spreads for cheap press).

I thought Amy Adams' trouper attitude showed why the cast used to be called the "Not Ready for Prime Time Players" - because they AREN'T!!! These are all B-movie level talents and while that's okay in small doses, they don't know how to mete out small doses any more. EVERY sketch goes on forever and the recurring characters come back TOO OFTEN!
