The age verification uses state's PUBLIC databases to make matches. You need to have an ID, DL, or other public state record for it to work. It has has nothing to do with the federal government. Also, state's don't track access to this information so you shouldn't worry. I know this because I work for Sony in culver city and we've implemented it in the past on other releases.

It's not hard to get around, but the site/tease is part of the US marketing campaign. Studios are going to start blocking/giving access to certain content based on your location using your IP address. In other words, you won't be able to access a US movie site unless you're on the continental US. There will be a few exceptions. Warner Bros. and Disney have similar programs that they're rolling out with marketing on movies this summer. Disney uses it to block worldwide viewership of ABC.com's online televsion episodes.
