SHORTEST CRISIS EVER!

It'll still be in real time, and be about the time Jack lost his keys... he spends the first hour looking, then randomly finds out his cousin is a terrorist. He drives across town and shoots him.

i'm pretty sure this is the very definition of cool news. 24's already been off the air too long and the thought of having to wait until next January to watch Jack back in action seemed almost unfathomable, so I'm glad they came up with a way to get the show back on the tube in 2008. A 2-hour Bauer movie sounds like it could be off the charts awesome. Let's hope they improve on the last few seasons of the show and hopefully ditch the real time formula for once, just to experiment. And god dammit, bring back Naked Mandy and let me die in peace!

Let's face it... 24 usually starts kick ass strong (last season an exception), has some massively ridiculous lulls in the middle, and finishes kick-ass strong. I think the shortened time will be a perfect fit for the show, cause there won't be any of that bullshit Kim-being-chased-by-a-cougar filler. They won't have to find the 80th thing that goes wrong to stretch it out. I think movie format is a great idea.

This is 24's 'Razor'; their version of BSG's tide-us-over-until-the-new-sea son movie. I don't think it'll be real-time, rather along the lines of a more traditional plot. Here's hoping it works, since we need all hands on deck against the plague that is reality TV. I'ma watch it.

Comparing the quality of writing in Smallville and 24 is like comparing horseshit to a dog turd. They both stink, but one's clearly more of a mess.

Truth is, I've been more occupied w/K-Bell's status on Heroes
by Pennsy
Mar 6th, 2008
11:30:42 AM
A minor detour, if I may; Bell tried to clarify her status last night after the Night at Sardi's fundraiser for Alzheimer's research.

"Because I'm not under contract, everyone's been asking. I had a wonderful experience. I did take a job, doing the Disney movie When in Rome with Josh Duhamel, so I'll be in New York and Rome for 12 weeks. But (Heroes producers) said they'd wait to shoot my scenes. They've been so good to me, so I think we'll be a happy family again."

"*Had* a wonderful experience"; sounds like past tense to me. There isn't a sense of urgency in getting her back to the set. If the movie does take that long, she won't report to Heroes until June at the earliest. So either she gets there, films her scenes and that'll be it with an explanation along the lines of "we explored Elle's character as far as we could go, and we wish Kristen well in her future endeavors.", or Elle's in the main mix of season 3 to her eyeballs.

Carry on with more Jack Sack discussion, then.

I take issue with your statement, as should any serious fan of 24. You think the season it won the Emmy was the best? Are you Crazy with a capital C? There should be no discussion. It's not a subjective question. The first season of 24 ranks among the greatest individual seasons of television, period. How can you turn your back on the original season in favor of the Season 5, which did represent a renaissance for the show, but only because seasons 3 and 4 were so subpar. I still don't think it deserved that Emmy. I mean I'm glad it got the recognition the series deserved, but it was a little late if you ask me. God I hope this TV movie shakes shit up and does something different with the characters and the real-time format.

I'll back you up here, Node. I can agree with MiraJeff that the first season is absolutely fantastic, but I think the fifth season is the strongest from start to finish. Once Jack stops the initial threat the first season lags for a few episodes until it regains its footing. I don't think season 5 had a single misstep, and it absolutely deserved that Emmy win.

the show was better when it was personal for jack. the stakes were higher when his family was on the line. the white house stuff in S5 was twisty and kept you guessing but it was never terribly interesting, just more of the same 24 backstabbing political intrigue silliness. don't get me wrong gang, i've never missed an episode and if i thought seasons 3 and 4 sucked then i would've stopped watching. 24 is still better than 99% of what's on TV. I just think the first season set an impossibly high standard that the show has failed to meet again. plus the ending of jack's wife getting killed is better than any other single twist in the show's history. nina will always be his nemesis. that love triangle is what weighs on his conscience throughout. not this save America from the chinese gov't bullshit. all jack ever wanted was a happy family. i think he'd let the country go to shit if he could have that again but i guess as fans, we're better off now that he can't.

As good as five was it still had that horrible shit they do every season where some dick takes over CTU and decides to bring in Jack and then Chloe decides to go it alone and oh if only she could get to her screen cos Jack really needs those schematics, dammit but oh no the new guy is at her desk running diagnostics and blah blah blah... I watched the season on DVD so it wasn't that bad but still I was rolling my eyes when they rolled that shit out yet again. There really was a lot to like, especially when Jack shot Peter Weller's wife in the knee and then was all like "See what you made me do?!" but overall I think that the first season was so unexpected and fresh that you went along with the contrivances and still do on repeated viewings. Hang on though, wasn't it season five where Aaron and the first lady were under fire and he just coolly leaned out the car and shot the guy with the flamethrower? Blew the fucker right up. Fucking awesome, I wish they'd made more of that guy instead of turning him into a pussy in season six. Can I request more Aaron blowing shit up in the new series? Thanks

Just watch episode 1 of season 2 and tell me that shit does not move you. Jack is near suicidal and depressed, full beard, has a fractured relationship with Kim, the opening scene, the cinematography (just about every shot is flawless), PALMER (THE REAL FUCKING PALMER), The Music, the build up to what is happening (NO FUCKING 1st Episode explosion or some motherfucker kidnapping the Sec of defense...) just a slow building fear a shadow of a threat....the episode ending with Jack shooting a child molester in the heart...and then shaving..and giving himself a haircut. Dude season 2 has some of the BESt fucking moments ever on 24. And jack DIES in season 2, albeit for about 2 minutes but sure as hell he dies. And the fight with Jack at the end in the football stadium. Season 2's MUSIC! Holy Shit! listen to the music in the first episode, tell me that does not make you want to jump into a fistful of your own asshole. The cougar...shut the fuck up already. Okay okay it was ONE fucking dumb thing, but Hey...Look at the pay off! Kim in a tank top with no bra! That was the payoff for Christ sakes!

I'm always blown away when I see people praising Season 5. Dude..it was GREAT until the threat became Toxic Nerve gas. The promise that it had was amazing. But the writers couldnt find a way to keep it personal, so they went to de facto Jack saving the Entire world story. The writers have never been able to Top themselves since the beginning, I acknowledge season 1 as the best, but Season 2 is my favorite. Anyone scratching their heads over this, go watch the Finale of Season 1 and then Dive into Season 2, and maybe you will understand. Season 3 is...I dont want to talk about it. Anyway Season 5 is over rated, and I love 24. Like Mirajeff, most fans agree its better when its personal. Smaller story, ominous plot but smaller story, is the way to go. And I really hope they will listen for once instead of recycling old plots.

Moreso than any other show I've seen. Some people are convinced the show has been in a downhill run ever since the 2nd season ended, others think 5 is the greatest season, even topping the 2nd and 1st for some. Others, strangely enough, think season 4 was GOOD. Weird, I know. But I hope we can all agree Season 6 was the shittiest shit to ever be shat out. Seriously, I used to be obsessed with this show, to a very unhealthy level, and I didn't even bother to watch all of season 6. If you would have told me that years ago, I never would have believed it. I just hope it pulls it's act together. I think the delay in season 7 is the best thing that could have happened to the show, other than bringing tony back. So it looks like they are on to something now.

I love 24. Seasons 1-5 all have their peaks and valleys, but I think they are all well worth watching (I have the fondest memories of Seasons 2-3 when you had a strong core cast that generally survived).

However, I don't like the idea of backing off the epic 24-episode crises to do a 2-hour show. For me, watching things unfold over time is one of the best things about the show. Cutting the show down to a 2-hour highlight reel will reduce it in scope and take away one of the things that makes 24 special.

And since people are bringing up their favorite 24 moments, mine is probably Jack killing Chappelle in Season 3. It completed the transformation of Chappelle from an unsympathetic antagonist to a tragic, self-sacrificing hero, and was one of the best audience mindfucks that 24 has ever accomplished.

But I believe the reason Jack is the terrorist killing roboassassin who only exists to serve his country is because his wife was killed, and the other events of season 1. He's like a whole different character in that season. Like, a human being. He's season 3 tony, except he just ended up channeling his grief into his work, instead of against it. It happens. And no way Saunders is a better villain than Nina was. He was pretty good though I guess, most they either kill off too soon or like Marwan, escape too often. It's still the WMD/Villain Formula though, that they perfected in Season 2 and used in the later half s3 and every season from there on out. That's why I like the mexico stuff. That seemed more like a natural continuation of the shit in the 1st season instead of just raising the possible casualty rate every year and making the WMD bigger, that doesn't make the show exciting for me.

For the record my favourite seasons run in order of 1, 2, 5, 3, 4 and 6. Whoever said 2 doesn't get enough love is right, I think that's because it hardly ever gets attcked like 3, 4 and 5 do so the defenders don't have to weigh in with their defence. But it has the awesome opening episode with "Get me a hacksaw"; CTU being bombed, Mason being an asshole and Paula dying in order to get a decyption key; Jack shooting a dog in the face; Nina's return and that smile Jack gives her after drugging their chaperone (not to mention the whisper he gave her and her face); Mason getting nuked and commiting the ultimate sacrifice; Tony in the field with the Warners; Kate's evil sister shooting her patsy fiancee and becoming a slut to set off a nuke (and turning into Lecter in the final episode); the nuke going off (way more shocking than season 6, even without the populated area); Tony and Michelle; Kim's boyfriend getting his leg amputated thanks to her stupidity; Kim in various states of undress; the emotional goodbye between her and Jack when he's about to go down with the nuke; Jack dying; the muslim agent whose name I've forgotten - Yaseef? - who was Jack's coolest partner outside of Tony; The Trial of David Palmer (and all the early day stuff, like locking the journalist up); Mike Novick being a shifty little shit - especially involving the fate of Lynn (and the moment where he grabs her accussing hand to comfort her); Alan Dale as the first and best bad VP; the reveal of Sherri Palmer being involved; Tobin Bell bing cool before Saw movies cheapened him; the msytery of Max; final fight scene, especilly Jack running up the wall and breaking that guy's neck - all whilst undergoing major heart trouble...

Season 3 did get off to a shaky start - and, until season 6, the episode immediately after Jack getting to Mexico (where Chase joins him) is the dullest episode ever of 24. Nothing happens. They sit around and wait for an hour. But once They get Nina on a plane and back to CTU it all kicks off and has 12 hours of 24. Nina's interrogation by ex-lover Tony and her needle-jacking; Jack's revenge - "No you don't"; absolutely everything to do with the hotel, especially bad-ass Michelle having to shoot the guy trying to escape, the bomb going off in Gael's face; Tony and Michelle's goodbye on the phone; Saunders being an awesome villain; the helicopter attack on that office building; Chapelle being killed - still 24's finest hour (literally), the moment itself is just gut wrenching; Tony going bad to get Michelle back!; the episode where Tony and Jack do get Michelle back and the gunfight that ensues, followed by two F-18's flying in out of nowhere to blow up a helicoptor (the best action moment in 24 history); "When your daughter is infected I'm ging to make you watch her die"; Chase having his arm chopped off; Jack's emotional meltdown; Tony being taken away for treason. Plus it had Palmer's downfall, the introduction of Chloe (oh, you all love her now); the Salazars; Sylar as "wowman-hating" CTU tech Adam; Sherri meeting her end; Tony Todd as a detective; a helicoptor chase over LA...

Season 4 was nowhere near as good, although it set up a hell of a lot of good stuff for season 5 to use. Curtis, Heller (he was great in his own way and his return in season 5 was awesome); Buchannan; Audrey (rubbish in this season but good in season 5; and Jack's emotional connection to her provided a personal backbone for season 5: Logan, Mike and Walt Cummings, the Chinese plot that was ruined in season 6 but added an exciting boost to the end of this season and was a great starting point - and end point - of season 5... Plus the first few hours moved fast; Jack's one-man raid on the bunker holding the Hellers; Driscoll (I liked her, despite the schizo daughter); Tony's return (seriously still one of the best bits of 24 ever, go and rewatch it, listen to the music, the way he's revealed, "Jack?" "Tony?", still awesome) and his hilarious new lifestyle watching football and drinking beer out of his Cubs mug with his slut girlfriend hogging the phone); "Actually I'm currently unemployed"; Curtis breaking out of captivity; Marianne Taylor being blown up; Edgar trying to stop the nuclear meltdowns; the music (it's really, really good this season); Chloe blowing bad guys away; the saga of the Araz family - Behrooz clubbing his cousin to death with a spade, Navi beng pretty badass until it's clear he's Marwan's bitch, Dina being a great femme fatale in a show full of them; the blowing up of Air Force One that we all saw coming but the previews advertised as THE MOST SHOCKING EPISODE EVER and had to show it three times in a week to make sure you didn'tmiss it; the triumphant return of Nina; Michelle not caving in like Tony did; Curtis punching Mandy in the face; Palmer helping Logan and setting up his own demise; Cummings and Logan 'not' planning Jack's death. Still, Marwan was absolute rubbish and his plan-after=plan-after-plan brought the season down.

Season 5 was incredible from the get-go - the opening episode is still the best opener ever for the show. Palmer getting shot (with Sherri being the last word spoken to him, which is more painful than being shot in the neck); Michelle being blown up almost straight afterwards; Chloe on the run; Jack fidning Palmer's killer within the hour and shooting him without mercy; the airpost seige - "I'm in a flank two position!"; Sean Astin's character - completely annoying but entertaining with it; Jack turning up at the presidential retreat and threatening to cut Walt's eye out; Aaron being badass then ("Do something!" "I am doing something, sir!") and for the whole season; Logan having Walt killed; Yellow Tie Man being killed without build-up or regret by Julian Sands; Julian Sands in general who is brilliant in the whole season; the attack on the Russian President's limo - Aaron blowing that flame-thrower guy up!; Logan praying with Mike after sending his wife to her potential death to protect himself; Henderson trying to blow Jack up and Jack turning up at his house and shooting his wife in the kneecaps; the devestating attack on CTU - not just Edgar's death, the whole thing; the episode spent in lockdown with Sean Astin dying, Jack and Kim confronting each other (a harsh moment for the show, no happy reconciliation, just rejection and a good reason for it) and then the "come on, you know they meant to do it, it wasn't meant to be misleading" death of Tony!; Desmond from Lost as Theo Staller in The Case of the Exploding Memory Card; Julian Sands' attack on the gas plant ("I'm going to release an inert substance into your pipeline" - say what?); Jack torturing Audrey - tense and emotional; the whole gas plant going boom and Jack's hero shot running away!; the reveal of Logan!; the introduction of Hayes and that creepy dick she brought with her; CTU being folded into Homeland Security resulting in Buchanan, Chloe and Audrey teaming up; Logan's near suicide; Heller fucking it all up and confronting Logan only to be defeated by a phonceall at the last second; Wayne Palmer being a badass with Aaron; Aaron being tortured but saved by gun-toting Mrs Logan; Jack steering a passenger jet from the luggage deck before landing it on a stretch of highway; Logan ordering the plane to be shot down; the Bluetooth Group; the submarine confrontation with Julian Sands and Jack's final confrontation with Henderson; Mrs Logan distracting Logan with the shortest sex ever; Jack's confronttion with Logan ("Right here! Right now! You are going to face justice!"); Marth winning - and Mike and hers smirks at Logan; the final goodbye to logan; the final twist with Jack being taken by the Chinese. And the performances in the season - everyone at their absolute best, especially Sands, Weller, Itzen, Matha (sorry, it's late, I can't remember names) and Sutherland.

Season 1 had all good moments, listing them wold take too long. Season 6 had.. ell, it had tha moment where Jack mule-kicked a suicide bomber out of a train before he blew up, that was pretty cool I guess. (Apologies for all typing errors, it's pretty late here in the UK)

Season 3's bit about the second half was supposed to read "12 of the best hours of 24". Plus Nina made no return, let alone a trumphant one, in season 4, I of course meant Mandy.
Certainly for its time Season 1 was

superior to season 5. The stakes seemed the highest the first season, one did not even know if Jack would make it through the season alive. After so many seasons its evident Jack isn't dying. And as previously mentioned, the Nina twist still trumps any 24 plot point to date.
Only 2hrs! Guess there will be...

...a smaller Jack Sack

And, if they actually let him EAT or Piss, well, they use up 5% of the time right there (in case the story sucks as much as Season 6, and they need to include some filler and at least ONE element of realism)

I love 24, and hope they have reamed and re-tooled S6.

all together now: Dammit!!

should have said "SINCE S6"

we watch them go about whatever the hell they want as, in a very small 4th pane, we Jack drivin around fast, pissed off that all the restrooms he stops at are Out of Service.

He says Dammit a lot, and finally pulls an empty water bottle outta the Jack Sack, relieves himself right in the damn car, cuz he IS Jack Effin Bauer!

DANHK DUHNK DANHK DUHNK...

that will do for 2 hours....

Seriously, though

this could be just what 24 needs: 2 hours of focused action on a single plot line

24 is responsible for some of the single most exciting, exhausting, breathtaking hour-long episodes in history. Can you imagine a full 2 hours of that, without distracting and stupid side-stories and soap opera crap?

Bring it ON.

Although when I hear the words "tv-movie" I think of Lifetime.
