Michael Rosenbaum had gone on record saying he wasn't interested in an 8th season of Smallville. It'll be interesting to see what they do. Honestly the whole show needs a huge overhaul. The writers have been phoneing it in since the Justice League Episode(I know I know probably further back then that but after that is when the cheese just went into overdrive). The sad part is there are so many easy changes that could be made to really get this show on track but they will NEVER be made nor action taken...it'll continue to be stuck in it's repetitive WB-Dawsons Creek roots. And this is coming from a guy who likes the show.

Smallville Needs To Pull A 4th Season Veronica Mars...
by Hagakure
Mar 3rd, 2008
03:36:13 PM
...And completely overhaul the series. God help me, I am a comic-book geek so I can't help but check in every so often to see how this particular canon is coming along. HOWEVER, in terms of Clark Kent becoming Superman, he has pretty much learned all he can in Smallville. Honestly, what is left there in terms of this series progressing? Veronica FBI was kind of a weird angle to take the show, but at least the creators were trying something a little different. This show needs to try and take it to that step. Move the show a few years into the future (Which would also solve the problems of Lex and Lana suddenly being out of the picture for now) with Clark having finished his "training" they keep referring to. For someone who doesn't work at the Daily Planet yet, Clark sure hangs around there a lot. For a staff of crack reporters, no one has ever asked Clark why he keeps showing up there.

still in Smallville, that's what the producers constantly repeat when the question arises. And of course, the no flights no tights bullshit. Hagakure, I totally agree with you, but when he finishes his training then it just crosses into the first Superman movie. I want to see how they're going to bridge the gap, preferably for me, to see how the hell they're going to explain that Lois somehow forgets who Clark is because she SURELY doesn't know him when they first meet in the movie. I'm thinking some season 8 Clark/Lois romance minus any Lex action (which entirely blows since Michael Rosenbaum is fucking amazing, maybe some guest appearances?) and then the finale is some retarded mind wipe, hopefully not the "super kiss" or whatever the hell that was in Superman 2. And when the hell is Perry coming back? Seriously, Clark wasn't in training for that long, what's it going to be, like 5 years? Perry has to be an establish editor in chief by the time Clark returns, that would be awesome to bring back Michael McKean for season 8.

Things Smallville must do in its final season
by oisin5199
Mar 3rd, 2008
05:31:43 PM
1) Send Clark back to college. He needs to actually learn to be a reporter and get the hell off the farm.

2) Bring back Michael McKean as Perry White, so that the Planet can become what it is. I'm actually one of the few people that doesn't have a problem with Erica Durance. I've never thought Lois was supposed to be an immediately likeable character. I like that she has flaws and has had to earn her place. I like that Clark doesn't fall for her right away, but grows to love her. Much better than the stupid puppy-dog Lana crush. Which leads to...

3)Lana - buh-bye! Clark needs to move on. Her story is sooo done.

4)If Lex is gone, then you need a major human player as a nemesis. Here's a wacky idea - write one! Create a good villain (not 'of the week' but a Big Bad, ala Buffy) that doesn't screw up DC continuity. But you better bring back Lex for sweeps. Oh, and you better have a damn good story reason for Lex being gone. And keep Lionel as a major player, but perhaps transform him a bit, give him a new status quo, perhaps a closer relationship with Jor-El, which leads to...

5. Enough of the tease. Bring Terrence Stamp on the show for real. Explain why Jor-El is always such a dick.

6. Bring back the Justice League! Give Clark some more global challenges. Keep Chloe as an 'Oracle' character. And oh yeah, for gods' sake, stop shitting on Chloe. Give her an uplifting story arc for once. Make her a new superhero or something. Jimmy? Keep him around as an occasional plot device. Supergirl? Meh.

That series finale better have some freakin' tights and flights!

Supernatural - fuck yeah! Smallville...

Kripke, please bring back Missouri and The Trickster (my favorite villain after Yellow Eyes). And, if it makes sense, Yellow Eyes in a flashback or dream or something (especially if he's played by Lehne). Make Bobby a regular. In the Smallville arena, kill Chloe. Kill her dead. Get rid of Lana. Get Rosenbaum back for at least half the season. Barring that, bring in Marsters' Brainiac or Dean Cain's Vandal Savage/Curtis Knox as the season's Big Bad. Bring in DHS Agent King Faraday as a thorn in the side of the Justice League -- and just to fuck with people, have him be played by Tim Daly or George Newbern. If for some ungodly reason you can't get either of those ex-Supermen, Jeffrey Coombs would be superb. Start the Clark/Lois tension. Throw in a few guest appearances from Martha. Other than that, I agree with everything oisin posted.

It's the best show The CW has. I'm also glad that Smallville was renewed, although that doesn't come as much of a surprise. Tom Welling and John Glover are already signed for an eighth season, and it's the highest-rated scripted drama the network has. Plus, it would've been weird if they ended the show on the season Supergirl arrived. I'm personally looking forward to the show without Lana. Clark can start to develop an interest in Lois. They should also add Green Arrow as a regular. He could be the catalyst Clark needs to help him become Superman. He's already called him out several times on his so-called selfish behavior and has asked him to join the 'league'. We also need to see Clark actually attending some classes so he can become a reporter for the Daily Planet. As for Lex leaving the show, I read somewhere that he may still make appearances. In a way, I think it's better that he's leaving, since his character has been getting pretty ridiculous in the last couple of seasons. He's bad and then he's reformed, and then he's bad again. He's always going back and forth w/ his father, and the dude has been shot way too many times. It also seems he's finally gone off the deep end what with the whole fake baby thing and the cloned brother.

As for Smallville, it seems to me they stopped trying to write a good episode seasons ago, and unless something drastic changes, I really don't see apoint to an 8th season. Really? It keeps getting renewed? How many times are we going to see the hospital? They should have frequent patient discounts by now. And how many people have seem Clark do "amazing" stuff? Do they all take stupid pills when Superman appears? The only thing they haven't done is show him fly regularly. Shouldn't he know how to do that before moving to Metropolis? The running is way past LAME. And now nobody thinks it's strange that Clark can show up at the Daily Planet then Smallville in a matter of seconds? In the first season they made it out to be over an hour or so drive. Just end it already. Make him Superman and let's all get on with our lives.

which is hitting it's stride, but boo for Smallville which...as everyone has mentioned has really gone downhill. Clark needs to fly, Lex needs just to turn bad and hate superman. Chloe, umm...., is she a superhero(or related to some hero in the comics?). otherwise she saves someone and dies dies. Perhaps, lois dies and chloe saves here again but dies...lois forgets clark again and leaves smallville. Clark also does need to start getting a reporter type job. although i prefer that it had been cancelled as everyone else has mentioned.

The show stopped going anywhere about 2 seasons ago. What is Clark supposed to be learning now? How to become more of a miserable prig? Seeing as he's never had concrete proof of Lex's misdeeds, his attitude to Lex seems to be driven more by spite than anything. And the bitchy dialogue is like a daytime soap! 08:26:45 PM
Smallville can easily rectify some of the sins against canon/continuity committed over the past 7 seasons. In this 8th season, Martian Manhunter begins training Clark in how to defend his adoptive homeworld from threats within and offworld. Perhaps this would be the opportunity to introduce some Green Lantern Corps B-listers like Guy Gardner and John Stewart (unless he's off limits because of the Justice League movie). In the process, MM finally teaches Clark how to fly. In the process, both Lois and Lex see a flying Clark. MM gives them a handy mind-wipe and they leave Smallville for greener pastures, having a passing recollection at best of Clark Kent at all. Also Chloe removes all photographic evidence of Clark from all Daily Planet archives (and the Internet at large while she's at it). Preposterous? Absolutely! It's Smallville!
Also, as much as I hate Smallville at times....
by Shermdawg
Mar 3rd, 2008
08:31:46 PM
...without UNSOCIABLE HAMMER and Kristin Kreuk, hey would most certainly have to move the show forward. And by moving the show forward, look for more Clark-Lois teamups, Clark getting a job at the Planet, and the possibility of Michael McKean joining the cast as Perry White.

Yes, I'll miss Lex, but if there was ever a time to do something different, to improve the quality of the show, season eight would not only be a perfect oppurtunity, but most likely their LAST ONE.
Smackdown
by SamDonovan
Mar 3rd, 2008
08:32:06 PM
One has to question the logical moves that the CW Network makes, especially when you consider that they let Smackdown leave their network. Say what you will about the WWE (and some of you undoubtably will), they are a guaranteed draw for several strong key demographics. No other prime time program can guarantee the young male demo, not to mention the Hispanic market (who traditionally doesn't watch network programming). Smackdown gave the CW Network it's biggest consistent ratings hit by a large margin, and more often than not was the highest rated program on a notoriously fickle Friday night. Sure, it's great that they renewed all of these shows that average 2 million viewers yet let their biggest show go off to the wasteland of the MyNetwork. I'm sure that Smackdown's move to MyNetwork will provide an unparalleled visibilty for the fledgling network and probably be it's savior. Brilliant move, CW. Just go ahead and cancel Reaper and then go back to the place where I can watch Seinfeld reruns and ignore your non-syndicated drivel. Hey, while your at it, bring back Cleghorne.

What if Terrence Stamp is brought as the new baddie (not as Zod though) and clues start popping up that Clark's life is a Matrix like dreamworld that Stamp had been controlling. After discovering whats going down, Clark jumps between alternate realities before finally escaping and we find out that the "real world" is a smidjin more faithful to what DC fanboys would want from this property.

It'd be a Dallas twist... but on kryptonite.

...like The X-Files, they're REALLY dragging out the "mythology" nonsense to the breaking point. Remember, X-Files started to get notiably bad when...? At the beginning of the eighth season, with a major cast overhaul and too much soap opera bullshit (remember Scully breaking down in tears in every episode?). Now, it looks like Smallville season eight is going to get rid of TWO major characters. The show can certainly thrive without Lana (seriously, she and Clark need to break this farce off), but the loss of Rosenbaum's Lex will be very tough to overcome. If they bring back Lex for important sweeps episodes, have Supergirl finally teach Clark to fly, and have Clark and Lois finally begin to "notice" each other, and season eight should be a fitting sendoff for the series (which, despite the constant bitching, had retained it's quality far longer than I ever would have thought). But season eight should ABSOLUTELY be the last one.

therres nothing to really fix on smallville, it was advertised as a new spin on the legend of superman. they dont have to rectify anything..ive accepted the fact that theyre not following the mold and i like it that way. if u want thngs the way they were , break out the old superman movies, but leave out 3 and 4 and slip in superman returns, since theyre pretending 3 and 4 didnt happen anyways....and for the other comment about "phoning in episodes since the justice league episode" im sure u thought they were phoning in the episodes prior to that too..u only liked that episode because it made u cream ur justice league briefs , right ? grow up........great for supernatural...the other crap could go away and i wouldnt care....please....one tree hill, gossip girl ? americas next top model ?? are there actually any people that actually watch any of those and are not retarded or slow to some degree ?? i doubt it

Shit, it all CW got on their pathetic network!

I don't get how WB/UPN=CW haven't advance from their inital start?

Between the two they were putting out some good programming like Nowhere Man, Seven Days, Buffy, Angel, Veronica Mars, and etc! Now it seems they rely on 2 shows to keep their network afloat like Smallville and Top Model!

WTF happened to them? Why haven't they move on to bigger and better things like Fox when it first started? Fox programming were medicore but they kept moving forward to become a legit network now!

WB/UPN=CW needs to let the old shows go and bring in new programming or there won't be a CW several years from now!

Smallville Needs To Go Big
by Playhouse
Mar 4th, 2008
12:40:03 AM
In the 8th season, which is going to be its final season (viewership will drop too far for them to even try considering going any further), Smallville needs every episode to be a big event leading up to the series finale. In fact, it really needs to feel like one cohesive story over the 22 episodes building to the climax of the transition to Superman at the end. Even though Smallville has always had overarcing storylines throughout seasons and throughout the series, the idea to to make each episode individually contained has really hurt the show in the longrun. Especially now as the narrative is very unnaturally keeping the characters in the same place. Clark should be training already. Lana should be long gone. For that matter, Lex should've moved on to bigger fish to fry. Though it was always nagging for the last 2 or 3 seasons, it really hit home how much treading they were doing with these past 3 or 4 episodes. Now is the time to throw out the self-contained episodes. Time to go completely serialized with cliffhanger endings that keep you coming back week in and week out and really pushing towards a strong finale. And move Clark past all the romance crap. 7 seasons in and, despite a few fleeting moments, it's never been interesting. Hell, they were able to accomplish more meaningful relationships with Lois and Oliver and Chloe and Jimmy in severely shorter amounts of time. Clark's humanity needs to be explored truly in relation to, well, humanity in this final season. Time to really pull him outside of himself and that will lead him towards his destiny.

And honestly, I thought Smallville was headed to the ultimate Clark vs Lex showdown like 3 seasons ago and I was really proud of them for taking the time to build it up over time. Now it is just kind of pathetic how everything is just lingering with the same broke-down storylines.

She's in it loads, and she doesn't wear a lot of clothes in many of the episodes too. She plays quite a bitchy character though, which was quite a surprise as prior to GG I'd only seen her in 24 as the wholesome Debbie.

Will be the last I am sure. Hopefully they can get Rosenbaum to cameo in a few episodes- especially towards the end, and maybe just one more with Lana to really underline that that relationship has no future (they may have done this- I have yet to see season 7). As one talkbacker has already suggested they really need to throw everything into season 8 (yes even a kitchen sink) wrap everything up- bring in Perry White, Martha Kent, flashback/dream sequences with Jonathan Kent, set up Clark knowing what his destiny is and yes the last shot of him flying towards Metropolis as Superman. Kill off Lionel Luthor (killed by Lex of course) and Chloe (I love her, but it would give some weight to the Clark character) and yes also a cameo from Terrance Stamp as Jor El. Flight, tights, lights- auidence in tears, applause- 8 years of entertaining TV although can be sporadic in terms of quality- but fuck that, at least I had 8 years of something about SUPERMAN, even if it was a tease for the first 4 years. Although I have to admit that the show may as well as been about Superman with the amount of time spent at the Plant etc. BTW- I love Durrance as Lois- best since Margot Kidder- hotter too.
Oh yes...

Wasn't this show slated to run only 5 seasons with a scripted ending leading to his flying and putting on the costume?

They let 25 staffers go from their scripted comedy division and will merge the drama series and 'current programming' units into one group.

Smallviel had best give Lex a good sendoff (albeit a temporary one, speaking in the big picture of the DCU) since Rosenbaum's last few eps are forthcoming. And the CQ had BETTER bring Reaper back.

the episode of Aliens in America with the fish mascot is some of the funniest television i've seen in a while. I didn't watch the show for the longest time cause I can't stand middle east/indian accents but I ran out of everything else to watch and gave it a shot, it's hilarious.

SMALLVILLE = RUT-TOWN

As in a rut - not rutting, because Clark and Lana have the most chaste relationship I've ever seen - how about some heat? And can we PLEASE stop Clark's moaning and whining about his powers? Jebus, he's Supes - he's supposed to INSPIRE all other heroes ('cept Bats) - he's the reason the Legion of Superheroes formed and he was always the one other heroes (again except Bats)in the JLA - now he is a whiny slacker who never wants to have powers unless he needs to save someone in his oh-so tiny circle - this is Superman? Look, I championed this show from the beginning, have never missed an ep, but enough is enough - go BIG Smallville - give us some epic stuff again - you've had some cool moments, how about a cool season... And oisin5199, I nominate you for new story editor.

Well we have to give the CW a break. At least they are faithful to their long running series, which we can't say from the other networks. Smallville isn't getting any better, but It's still ok. I think it's better as Superman returns, which bored the shit out of me. And Season 8 could be a great final farewell season. My suggestions: - Make it darker - Leave the Smallville Farm - More international locations - Sent Lana away. This boring relationship didn't grow up with the audience of the series. She is so pathetic... - More Brainiac - More Green Arrow - Bring Martha back - Perry White, Yesss!! - And fly Superboy fly!!!! As for Supernatural: It's one of the most underrated tv-series . Getting better every season!! Hang on there Winchester Boys. Keep rocking!! Oeeeehhh a crossover with Scully and Mulder. That would be my tv-highlight of the decade!! And Herc show the series some respect. Now and then a Talkback would be nice. I don't understand the love for the Reaper. Love Ray Wise...But then I don't have to like everything.....

otis, thanks for the props. Actually, there was some (brief) heat in the episode where Lana gets Clark's powers - it did have a pretty funny bit when their implied sex causes an earth tremor. When Chloe figures out what's happened, the look on her face is priceless. But then the episode turned into one of those maudlin darkLana episodes. Yawn. I just can't see a scenario where that character isn't a drag on the show - either cutesy girlfriend or angry black widow, she just doesn't work anymore (if she ever did).

slkboxrman, I'm actually one of those people who doesn't so much care for continuity with DC (especially since DC has done enough to mess up its own continuity). But if you're going to make it a different world, make it a different world. Don't try to make major characters be 're-interpretations' of established DC characters. That only occasionally works, and only when the take says something new and interesting about the character (see, for instance, their interpretation of Mytzlplk. Totally unnecessary). This is why I'm all for creating a new 'big bad' that addresses the issues specific to the show and the Smallville 'world. '

On another note, I actually like the idea that someone posted of Martian Manhunter doing mindwipes at the end of the show. But only if they earn it - if it's not tacked on for convenience. I like the idea that Chloe would be involved in an ongoing project to erase Clark Kent's identity, so that by the end of the show, Superman can appear. But it has to take time, it has to be earned, there has to be consequences.

I guess overall, I care about this show, because it has always had the potential for greatness, but so rarely achieves it (I felt similarly about the Highlander series). If only the producers would take more risks and not take so many shortcuts. I hope someday, someone will create a show in the superhero genre that's intelligent and edgy, doesn't pander to a teen crowd, and has focused, non-cliched, and crisp writing, and isn't cheesy - maybe someone will learn from the mistakes of Smallville and Heroes. There's such a range of material and greatness in the comics medium, why not on the screen? It's too bad comic adaptations are all about making money in the movie theater, when they are much more suited to television due to their serial nature. I fantasize about a tv show that takes its cues from stuff like Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Doom Patrol, and Sandman, rather than the standard fare. So how's that Preacher show coming along?

Better renew Reaper and they can save Smallville.....

Question: Now that we know that Smallville's coming back next season, when will we find out which cast members will be returning? — Kirsten Ausiello: You'll find out right this second (Warning: This spoiler will dramatically and suddenly accelerate, climb, stop and dive. It is not recommended for Smallville fans who are expectant mothers or those with a history of neck or back conditions or heart trouble) OK, here we go: Everyone is expected to return for Season 8 except — wait for it, wait for it — Michael Rosenbaum and Kristen Kreuk. I'll give you a second to catch your breath. [Beat] Sources close to the show tell me that both actors have informed producers that they don't intend to return as series regulars next season. However, they are open to doing limited engagements, and those details are being worked out as we speak. Thanks for riding! Question: I was wondering if you could let loose some juicy Smallville gossip about some future episodes. — David Ausiello: Find a calendar and draw a circle around April 17. That's the day the show's first post-strike episode airs. It's also the day a long-running character — a series regular — takes his last breath. As in dies. For real. No cloning crap this time around. Source: TVGuide.com, Michael Ausiello (Ask Ausiello)

Sucks to be you...looks like he's locked up for another season, and I don't think George Miller will accomodate his schedule. Also, Supernatural is one of the top 5 genre shows on right now, no question.

Smallville was done in season 3... massive lameness started then (well, massive lameness has kind of always been a problem for the show, but it wasn't obvious until then). I wanted to love Reaper, and I think it has an absolutely fantastic premise, but the showrunners still haven't worked out the execution all that well. When the formula shows after 4 or 5 episodes, you're in a little bit of trouble (although Ray Wise was a total blast). Also, there are a lot of people on here raving about Supernatural. I've only seen a couple of episodes, but was supremely underwhelmed. In one episode, there were three "twists" which I saw coming ages before the big "reveal," and I found the cheesy one-liners almost painful. Did I just see poor episodes? Should I give it another chance?

This is very good news. This show deserves it. Very underrated. They should get guest appearances by Boreanaz, Marsters, Dushku, Englund, Tobin Bell. Hell even Gellar should guest-star. But, even if they don't become guest star Supernatural will rock anyhow. The Shield > Supernatural > any other show.

Heck yeah! This is my favorite show on TV. And Password.Swordfish, you could give Supernatural another try. It took me about 4-5 eps before I became really hooked. You have to get a feel for the characters and the interaction of the Winchester Brothers. Most of the episodes are good, but they build/refer to each other and although you could just slip in a watch one, it makes sense to watch them in order. Rent the first of season one's DVD from your favorite place netflix/Blockbuster/whatever, get a few beers and just sit and watch. If you don't get hooked, then you'll know for sure it's not for you.

I think I'll do that. I was surprised when I didn't like it, cause I'm a genre freak and love the supernatural (ha!) in general. I like your suggestion, cause my fave shows are the ones that are not all that rewarding to casual viewers, and I hate to watch things out of order. Cheers.
