Ellen Page is one of the most annoying, and pretentiously self aware actresses around. I want to enjoy a Sam Raimi flick, not be annoyed to no end like Kirsten Dunst in the Spidey flicks. Maybe I'm the only one, but this is good news to me.

I'd have more respect for Page dropping out from a sub-par script than if it was as shallow a reason as you suggested. Raimi might feel the same way about the script, if he's willing to postpone the production to work on it more.

I am a big fan of Raimi from Evil Dead to Army of Darkness to the Quick & the Dead. Then his work seemed to get more and more watered down and Hollywoodized. I also worry about producer Rob Tapert's comment that this movie would revisit the spirit of the Evil Dead movies but without their "excessive violence." Huh? The Evil Dead movies had "excessive violence"? I thought they had just the right amount of violence.

I HATE ELLEN PAGE
by AdrianVeidt
Mar 1st, 2008
07:43:44 AM
Okay, maybe hate is strong, but I've seen her in two movies and in interviews and I can't tell the goddamned difference between anyone of her personas. Hard Candy she delivers her lines in the exact same way they're delivered in Juno and in talk shows. I couldn't get her Hard Candy character out of my mind while I watched Juno, which just fucked with me.

Moreover, she reminds me of all those pretentious girls in high school and college that thought they were smarter than everyone else, and figured they were "artsy," but the REAL artsy girls were the ones with modesty and freckels, god damn it. The kind of girl that just annoys everyone, but they can't bear to tell her.

Granted, Tom Hanks can deliver lines the same way from movie to movie, but I believe he is truly a different character with each movie.

Rant over. Seacrest out.

Those were Reagan's numbers circa 1982, not Carter. Carter was already out of office at that time. 2 years out. How come Republicans have such a hard time seeing any faults whatsoever in their candidates? How come they have a tendency to blame previous administrations for the problems created by the present administration? Weird. I mean, they're still blaming Clinton for EVERYTHING, and he's been out of office for 8 years -- 8 years in which a Republican president managed to ruin the economy, deplete the budget surplus, and plunge us into an endless war started on false pretenses. And you STILL blame the guy whos not in office. Amazing. I mean, whats wrong with you? Don't you understand that you're being fucked over too? Are you all retarded? What?

Yeah, there are other actors like that who don't really "act" that much...George Clooney is another example....vs. actors like Deniro or Pacino or Cate Blanchett who really disappear into their roles are really "act". Page is just a cute chick who can remember her lines well. She's not even that hot (no titties), but she is cute and pleasant to look at and can hit her mark, so therefore she will get work.

With Page
by Cobbio
Mar 1st, 2008
09:55:55 AM
I have to say... I'm with Page on this one. She's smart, cute, makes good decisions career-wise, and regardless of what many Raimi apologists here have written, she's a quality actress.

Sam Raimi's an iconic director. He's taken chances, pushed the horror genre in new directions, and channeled Spiderman 1 and 2. I like the guy.

But Spiderman 3 was a turd of legendary proportions. People say, "Ah, just get over it. It's fucking Spiderman!" This is true, but I couldn't BELIEVE how bad the film turned out to be. It was silly, emotionally unengaging, poorly written, and writhing with horrible decisions. Raimi pulled a Lucas and destroyed what could've been a classic series by ending it with a turd.

Thus I'm skeptical. Page was too.

Listen up. I want to personally thank you for the Super Tuesday Talkback. That TB set me off on researching Barack Obama and actually watching the debates. And watching Bush's last press conference (which such conferences I've avoided for a long time to avoid the truth that our country is led by an imbecile not qualified to manage a Taco Bell), I'm more eager for November to come than Iron Man's opening. We need someone who is going to be able to work with others and mend relations we have destroyed across the globe. Obama can get that done. Plus the fear card is not going to work this time around for the Republicans. The world has and will always have threats that is just a fact of life. Terror has and will always exists and to paint that as some new revelation which the Republicans did for the last 7 years will not sell this time at the ballot box. As far as the economy goes you can't blame a democrat this time because this is all Bush and the Republicans. They fucked us folks and it's time for some real CHANGE!

Obama is the LEAST of the three candidates to reach across party lines. His voting record is strickly liberal agenda items. He has NEVER attempted to work with republicans. Why is he perfect for the Presidency? He has little political experience, he has zero diplomatic experience, no military training, never wrote a single piece of legislation, and is as close to a Marxist socialist as you can get in America. He won't end the war on terror, because that would be national security suicide. All Obama is, is a blank check that people want to write all kinds of numbers in... but if there are no funds in the account, it won't do any good. Now, none of the candidates are ideal, but McCain is the least risk. Obama wants to open our borders to any and all terrorists and cozy up to them. Hillary is in it for her ego. She wants to be Prez because everything she's done has been to meet her ambitious goals. That's the only reason she and Bill are still married, is coz she needs him attract the people who fear her. Everyone loved Bill... no one loves Hillary.

Oh, and Carter WAS to blame for the 10% unemployment and 18% inflation. A little known fact is that most effects of a President's term isn't seen until a few years after he leaves (if he's a 1 term prez.) Reagan had to clean up Carter's mess.

by SkinJob69
Mar 1st, 2008
05:11:00 PM
"I think we’re lied to about a number of things," she said, singling out September 11.

Referring to the two passenger jets flown into the World Trade Centre, Miss Cotillard said: "We see other towers of the same kind being hit by planes, are they burned? There was a tower, I believe it was in Spain, which burned for 24 hours.

It never collapsed. None of these towers collapsed. And there [New York], in a few minutes, the whole thing collapsed."

Miss Cotillard suggested that the towers, planned in the early 1960s, were an outdated "money sucker" which would have cost so much to modernise that it was easier to destroy them.

Turning to America’s space programme, she said: "Did a man really walk on the moon? I saw plenty of documentaries on it, and I really wondered. And in any case I don’t believe all they tell me, that’s for sure."

smartest move she could make...

Ellen Page is...

...a pretty good actor and should have a pretty decent career. Her Juno character, as written and directed, can be a little annoying at times but that was Juno and thankfully it did not ruin the film. JUNO is a good film, however, I don't think it should have been nominated for Best Picture. In interviews, Ellen Page kind of comes off as much more serious and intellectual then what we are accustomed to seeing from our celebrities. It's kinda like being a doctor and Doogie Howser M.D. is lecturing you. That little teenaged bastard physician! It's just a little annoying, I guess, to think that someone so young has it all figured out or at least appears to be so confident that they don't care about others' thoughts or opinions because we haven't caught up to their level of thought process. Anyhoo, I think she is in a certain phase in her life that she will eventually grow out of and become less of what is being perceived as being somewhat pretentious. Other than that, she's cool. That is all. Moron Out!

And proposed absolutely nothing except change and hope. I have a bad feeling his brand of change is going to be very expensive. I liked Ellen Page until I saw SNL tonight. The prospect of a Raimi brothers written horror film is deffinatly exciting but with there track record I won't hold my breath. I believe the bad out number the good if you count em up. For those who are bitching about Spidey 3 I have a question- Before the movie went into production, where you one of the ones demanding that Venom be put into the movie? Well Avi Arad (or however you spell his name) listened to you and forced Raimi to put him into the film, throwing off the whole balance of the film, ruining it. So shut up and eat the turd soup you asked for.

The Eddie Brock/black suit angle was the only thing that made that movie watchable. Sandman was a LAME character. His motive was bad too. There are so many healthcare for the poor children programs in NY that there would be no reason for him to steal money. It was completely unbelievable. The fact they retconned Spidey into a murderer was horrid too. Raimi jumped the shark and thank God that Avi Arad was there to curb Raimi's stupidity. The dancing scene was lame tho. That was horrid. They needed to focus more on what the effects were on Spider-Man, not just Peter. I wanted to see Spidey throwing thugs into walls, or causing serious damage, etc. Not dancing to 70'a music. That, and MJ SERIOUSLY needs a new face. That hyena is UGLY!
And Venom was perfect.

How can anyone say they did him wrong, aside from screentime? The origin was the same, the look was perfect, the powers were great, the only thing non-venom about Venom was offering to share the kill with Sandman. Other than that, Venom was the most accurate character translation from comics to film.

If any fans should be angry, it should be Sandman fans. They took a simple overindulgent thug and turned him into a family man. As if simple criminals don't exist.

It sounded to me like there were scheduling conflicts when the makers of Drag Me to Hell had to change the start date. Maybe she wanted to do the flick, but couldn't get our of her previous commitment. Maybe she decided it wasn't the best choice for her right now. Maybe the script is shit. Maybe she's getting too big an ego. We don't know anything beyond what is said above with any certainty. I find it interesting how many people are instantly putting this on her. So, would you all hate her just as much if she wasn't riding high off a recent hit movie? I fucking hate it when the cool thing becomes trashing people just because they're popular, and you can point out how non-conforming you are. See, I hated her first! Say what you will, I think you're just not used to a female who has something intelligent to say, as opposed to the usual "(giggle) I liked this character, cause she was like, so complicated. Like, OMG, she had two boys chasing her, and one was really nice, but a total dork. She was really torn, cause she was way into the good-looking asshole. It was so deep." I'll take a shade of pretentiousness over that drivel. And for fuck's sake nyj_et, can we please retire the Hitler card? I can't think of a situation in which it applies less, and it's the last ditch effort of someone who has nothing else to argue.

And absolutely, the look was perfect. Truly, the only misstep with Spidey 3 was Bryce Howard as Gwen; she was so damn adorable you almost wished the cab with MJ in it would have crashed, killing her off so Gwen would stick around (and understand, I LIKE Kirsten Dunst in the role!). there were alot of good ideas that were poorly executed and all crammed together, which is why most people are pissed about it. It could have been great, and everyone sees that, but ended up a total failure. Even if they had just changed the ending, it would have help tremendously. Have Spidey beat Sandman with the symbiote, then end the film with the bell tower scene. A shot of Spidey & MJ in the belltower watching the sun rise, back the camera out, pan down inside the tower to the floor, where we see a black form rising, then leap at the camera, flashing a Venom grin. Roll credits. That's what everyone wanted to see (at least those who did want to see Venom). That and lose fucking Emo dancing Parker. Raimi lost ALOT of respect with that.
Obama does compare with Hitler tho.
by W3bzpinn3r
Mar 2nd, 2008
06:46:27 PM
Not in an ideology, or philosophy, but in the lat 30's and early 40's, Hitler would work crowds up to a fervor by playing on emotions without giving an ounce of substance in his speeches. Obama does the same thing. Hitler spoke often of hope, and a better Germany, but never said how he planned to achieve it; Obama does the same about the USA.

Now, I'm not saying Obama would be Hitler in office. I'm merely comparing their speech styles.

Not that Obama would get elected anyway. The largest percentage of voters are older white men, and they'd sooner worship Satan than see a black man in the White House. I'm not being a racist, just stating the hard facts. Hillary can't win because she IS Satan. McCain shouldn't win coz he's a putz, but since we can't clone Reagan, we're stuck with another liberal Republican for prez. But at least with McCain I know I can feel safe at night with a supported military, rather than the stripped down version the Clintons and Obama favor. I don't want a president who wants to meet dictators and terrorists to negotiate... I want a president who wants to kick their asses until they are extinct.

Hitler is brought up in reference to Obama to serve a specific, rhetorical purpose: to associate the two, regardless of why. They are not the only two politicians to make those kinds of speeches, in fact I'd say that is the speaking style of most politicians. To bring up Hitler is an obvious ploy to vilify Obama in the most ridiculous way. Thank god you can't clone Reagan, the rest of the world couldn't handle being attacked randomly for no reason (one of Reagan's fave past times). Poor Grenada. And now I'm done. The real cause of the housing buble lays with the FED's cuts to interest rates a few years ago. Obviously, there was no way to have seen the bubble coming (such is the nature of bubbles). But, yeah, we got to deal with it. The last century, there were only two collapses in the housing industry that didn't precede a recession, the one right before the Korean War and the one right before the Vietnam War. It doesn't look good, but this ain't post LBJ, Carter policy. There isn't a Reagan who can just repeal punitive tax rates to stimulate a economic boom. We Americans are going to have to resort to hard work to work our way out of this situation. Obviously the total opposite of the Democrat Pres. Noms. positions. Apparrantly government spending magically doesn't add to debt or retard the economy, it's just magic money from the "rich" that doesn't affect anything else.

And she can still play teenagers while she's almost 30! What a lady... Can't wait for her to star in some big-budget (a decent one, if possible) flick and have her big break.

He's qualified to be a motivational speaker, or perhaps The Rock's ADR looping stand-in. But not president. And neither is Hillary Clinton. The Democrats don't have a qualified candidate. For the record, the guy we have in office right now shouldn't be there, either.

The thing is, as much as I disagree with John McCain when it comes to certain issues, such as illegal immigration, I think he is BY FAR the most experienced candidate running for president, and the one best qualified to lead the US for the next 4 years.

Ironically, his own legislation, McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform, may end up screwing him and may keep him from winning the White House in November. If Barack Hussein Obama wins the presidency, America is in for a shit storm the likes of which we haven't seen since the Jimmy Carter years. And I just bought a house, dammit!

It`s true, if you`re an up-and-coming actor/actress, following up your big breakthrough movie with a horror flick is a BAD idea. I use Bentley as an example. Now he`s the (crappy) villian in "Ghost Rider" for pete`s sake. On a side note, following up your breakthrough movie with a bunch of crappy comedies is a bad idea too. I`m looking at YOU, Jon Heder. As for Page, meh, she`s alright I guess - but she does basically seem to play the same character in every movie.......but in all fairness the same can be said for many character actors.
