Cleveland is an awesome charectar. There's a lot of possiblities here. Plus I wonder if it will share the flashbacks or go straight up plot comedy like south park or old simpsons. They'll probably stick with what works. People can hate on family guy all they want it's still a successful show and doesn't take itself seriously.

people hate family guy because it has the balls to make fun of everything equally... forboden topics like "I need a Jew" as well as making fun of traditional TV fodder like the Catholic Church. seriously if you dont find a baby wanting to kill his mother in a reverse oedipal fixation or peter fighting that chicken funny, what are you doing reviewing TV shows?

How exactly would it be a spinoff if none of the characters were in it? And women breaking out of prison? Don't really need to see that, keep them in! Ever since Oz, I always thought a show on a woman's prison would be a good idea but hopefully on cable and not network TV lol.

At first I thought Cleveland? Then someone said Quagmire would get boring, and I thought yeah he probably would. Then I thought what about a Cleveland/Quagmire spinoff where they are Cops, i don't know why I just feel that working. Like a Startsky and Hutch rip off, but with Family Guy Humor. Quagmire inner thoughts are always priceless. Cleveland is just the sad sap all the bad things happen to. Buddy Cop Show, with Joe as their Cheif, and Peter Griffin's step brother Thadius as their arch nemisis.

As much as I dig Cleveland Brown, I have to agree with sith-rising that Joe Swanson would be a better spinoff. goes a stright up plot route, such as Brian and Stewie's "Road to" episodes, they are very funny, when they have a long protracted flashback or several small "remember that one time" bits it gets really old really fast

do I laugh at Family Guy, yes. Is it high priorty television viewing, now

for example last night I ahd the option of watching Family Guy or Justice League: The new Frontier, I chose JL

if it was between JL and South Park I'd watch South Park and stay up later to watch JL

by The Bandit

A Family Guy spinoff will crash and burn quickly. Without the Griffin family, Peter, Stewie and Brian in particular, the rest just show up for the joke and we go back to the family. The secondary players arent overly interesting. And everybody loves Quagmire and are screaming for him to be the spinoff but his schtick is already old. The show is ok, but its gotten old fast, its not as good as it once was. A spinoff is a bad idea. I dont get the hate on American Dad either, its the better show of the two out right now.

T-Bag spinoff
by photoboy

11:45:30 AM
Seriously, they should do a spin-off with T-Bag trying to escape Sona.

I hope PB doesn't get cancelled, I've heard it's 50:50 on it getting renewed. It had a wobbly second season and season 3 started badly but it built up really well. I just think they need a new direction for season 4.

As for a show based around the Cleveland character, I'm not sure how funny that could be, I never really found him that funny ever.

And Terminator better come back, it's fucking awesome right now, I can't wait for the 2 hour finale, it's just a shame the first season was so short.

Feb 29th, 2008
12:31:11 PM
Is so funny right now, because of the rule of second seasons. Look at almost every comedy show. First season showed a lot of promise, then if they listen to what fans want they tweek the show and season 2 is amazing. There are of course exceptions, but only in shows that were gold to begin with. Just check out the American office or 30 rock, Arrested Development, Mr Show. Then some good comedy shows go a little longer then 2 seasons. I know that this is no sound proof fact, but it holds true in a lot of cases and I am at work right now so i can't spend an hour researching. But if you are saying American Dad sucks, you haven't caught the past season, the bond rip off was awesome. Plus Family guy had probably the best two episodes since North by North Quahog, in McStroke and The one where Meg goes into a coma. Blue Harvest withstanding of course.

would be going in a different direction next year. After the season finale it seemed like Michael would be going off on his own to go after Gretchen and The Company.

The Cleveland Show will start out with Cleveland winning the lottery. But he moves away after having a falling out with Peter. Then, in the last episode, we'll see Cleveland writting a letter, and we discover he never won the lottery, nothing we had seen had actually happened. It was all a fantasy that was just his way of dealing with Peter having died of a heart attack.

You can't base a whole series around a whackadoo character - Michael Richards Show, anyone? They probably chose Cleveland because they saw more meat to the character to base a series around. by Rufferto
Feb 29th, 2008
01:51:40 PM
Wow you people are drones aren't you? There was nothing wrong with Family Guy I didn't already know before that South Park episode. That never stopped me from enjoying it when the jokes and bombardment of parodies were solid albeit a rare occurrence. I guess some people need the obvious stated to them and listen to everything South Park tells them, like it's religion. Too bad South Park never told you that American Dad is the most unoriginal piece of shit ever constructed. There's nothing they could do on that show that couldn't of been done better on Family Guy. I guess it was just for the sake of following that safe old animated family with wacky friends formula FOX cherishes so much. People apparently eat it up so it works. That being said this is a stupid idea and I can tell Seth is not even trying and just cashing it in and dreaming of all the money he'll make off the suckers once he puts more plagiarisms on dvd.

You're obviously not paying attention because Season 3 had EVERYTHING to do with a prison break, but I agree that it was stretching the limits of plausibility. The only reason there should be a Season 4 is because this faggot ass writer's strike mucked things up so we don't get a resolution. But we can't have Scofield driving forever onward with a plastic rose and a gun in the passenger seat. There has to be a fourth season in order for us to have closure. To know he gets his revenge on that cunt, Gretchen. And season 2 was completely necessary. It showed the aftermath of the prison break. You know you would have complained if the series had ended with them breaking out of prison. Everyone would have complained 'So what was the point of watching if they're just going to leave us with our cocks swinging in the wind? They should have showed what happened next.'
And even though it has nothing to do with this talkback...

Well I was going to post a defense of Family Guy (which I like, while acknowledging it's hardly the wittiest thing on TV), but after reading all of the praise for Chris Elliott, I can see there's no point.

Seriously...Chris Elliott? Really? What is the matter with you people? He's a one-note, talentless hack. His "bit" -- such as it is -- might've been fresh for a few minutes on Letterman, but it's been tired ever since. Get a Life was a waste. It wasn't clever, or inspired...it was just stupid.

If you really think Chris Elliott's repeated "oooh-let-me-make-you-uncomfor table-with-how-I-don't-realize -I'm-out-of-touch" schtick is more clever than even Family Guy or American Dad, then I can't really help you.

Venture Brothers has raised the animated comedy bar far too high to tolerate the rest of this tepid network crap.

It's been known that Fox wanted to produce a women's prison spinoff for some time now. But what Ain't It Cool failed to say here is that the name of the spinoff would be Cherry Hill, and that the main character of Cherry Hill, Molly, was to be a crucial character in Season 3 of Prison Break, but they abandoned the idea when the strike shortened the season and they had too much to cram in. I mean, if you're going to bash the pilot of Prison Break Season 1 and never have a talkback about the regular ongoing show again, why bother putting up a talkback about the poorly conceived spinoff idea that will never make it out of the conceptual phase? Cherry Hill is a terrible idea except for the massive potential for women in shackles and cavity searches part.

Cleveland is the very best possible character for a spinoff from that abomination. Thinking of Family Guy makes me frown, but just the idea of a Cleveland show, called Cleveland, about that dweeb character, makes me laugh. It is fucking typical of Family Guy fans that they wouldn't realize how classic a Cleveland show could be. Sadly the people creating the show have shown a distinct lack of skill so it will probably be shit, despite the promise of the character.

sitcoms have a history of spinning off supporting characters, and rarely are those shows any good... this actually sounds like the producers are spoofing that tradition... Wasn't exactly the producer's choice, Sarah Wayne Callies got pregnant and didn't want to come back to even film a very short sequence. They even offered to go film her at her home so she didn't have to travel but she didn't want to do it. So they didn't really have much option but to kill her off. While I didn't like it, it certainly made Gretchen one of the most evil characters on TV for a long time. I can't wait to see Michael catch up to her.

1.) Someone asked McFarland about a spin-off and he named the least likely character to support a series as a joke.

2.) He meant it as a "Jeffersons" reference since both parent shows had the word "Family" in the title.

3.) He meant it as a King of The Hill parody since they took a minor character from "Beavis and Butthead" and spun him off into an unrelated series.

4.) Instead of doing the obvious thing and having Cleveland move to a new setting and new situation, they'll just leave him in a mostly white Maine suburb where he hangs out with his drinking buddies Glenn, Peter and Joe and it's be the same show, except told from a different point of view and without Mila Kunis, Seth Green or a talking dog.

5.) They'll turn it into a Seth MacFairlane formula show and have Cleveland and Loretta adopt a teenaged daughter, an adolescent son and a talking animaal.

6.) This will be the best series about a docile African-American male getting fucked with a strap-on by his domineering wife since they canceled the other Cosby show.

Family Guy Does Need a Spin-Off
by versatol
Mar 1st, 2008
04:16:17 PM
The reason the show works is because there are so many workable characters. Any of them set off on their own would get tiresome... unless they create a whole new world of characters surrounding the spun-off character. I see why they chose Cleveland. His comedy is not limited to a shtick or a repetive gag. He's just funny in the way he responds to situations. A Cleveland-Quagmire spin-off would be better though. Either way, Cleveland would need some outrageous comic relief surrounding him.

Mike Judge knows how to do animation, and tells good stories. His characters actually have in-depth personalities and any of them could survive as the focus of a new series.

How about a show starring John Redcorn after he moves away from Arlen to try his luck in New York City? It would work.

And despite what Mtv wants you to believe, "Dariah" is not a spin-off from "Beavis & Butt-Head." -- It's Mtv crap that STOLE a character from Beavis & Butt-Head, and did a piss-poor job of it at that. Very few animated shows on Mtv Networks were any good once they were taken out of the hands of the creators. Just you try watching a Ren & Stimpy episode that wasn't done by John K. and tell me it was up to the standards he created for the show.

Of course, I mean no slight to Billy West, who did a bang-up jop on Ren & Stimpy, but without John K., it just wasn't the same.

Same with B&B. Without Mike Judge, it's not the right "feel" and it just doesn't work.

The reason for Cherry Hill, the spinoff, was originally to be introduced in PB Season 3. The main character of the spinoff, Molly, was supposed to be visiting Michael at Sona because The Company killed her family and she knew Michael was her best chance of catching up to and getting even with them. Her storyline was cut due to time constraints imposed by the strike. I don't even think Cherry Hill is still an issue. I would say the idea was dead on arrival, seeing as how Ain't It Cool didn't exactly 'break' this story. It's six months old.

And you're right, it's not a spin-off, but it is highly influenced by Beavis & Butt-head, and it does occur in the same world as Beavis & Butt-head. Hank is basically a recreation of Tom Anderson from Beavis & Butt-head. Dooley (kid in Tom Landry High School) may well be related to them, too... He sure acts like it.

WTF?!?!

Some of the most outragous moments on tv come from that show alone.

I mean who would attack all races and turn it into funny shit!?!

Who else can do Osama Bin Laden acting like an idiot with his terrorist buddies before doing another one of his dumbass tapes?!

WHO WOULD FIGHT THE GIANT CHICKEN!!!!???

Only Fmaily Guy can provide us with such ridiculous yet couragous lines and situations on tv without being just plain mean about it.

THey have some of the best shows ever. If someone can beat the Simpsons out of being the best cartoon shows for adults (minus the triple X rating) they can.

As far as Clev's character goes for a spinoff... I don't know but it could still work.. We'd finally see why is the guy always taking a bath when something destroys his house. They could do some great things on that series like show us some old storylines that happened, but instead of showing the whole thing have it from Clev's side. Like when Peter battles the Giant Chicken and they run and beat each other on the streets, we could see Clev looking at them going "Oh well, there goes Peter again... Fighting the chicken.." then going on about his busisness. We'd finally know what the hell do these other characters do from time to time.

Can work.

The problem with Prison Break...
by MachThree
Mar 3rd, 2008

is that its started to rely too much on its weakest aspect - the lame Company / conspirarcy stuff. Season 1 - getting into prison and breaking out - great premise, well done - season 2 - the escape and being on the run - good at first until the company stuff started eating into it. Season 3 - getting everyone back into a (different) prison is a good idea, but it was carried out in a contrived way at the end of season 2. And then everything in season 3 is about the lame company conspiracy again. Just doesn't work. I can see it being ok for another half season - they could break Sucre and/or T-Bag out of Sona, Michael hunts Susan B. Anthony etc., and Mahone once again becomes Michael's nemisis. But to go much beyond another half season, especially if they somehow end up back in prison yet again, would just be stretching credibility too far.
