I dunno. I can't see Ferrell as Ignatius. Perhaps it's just as well that fell through.

The link at the top of the story that points to Capones part doesn't work. It points to this one. Great read btw!

you are a funny guy. You were great on SNL, we all want more cowbell because of you, and some of your movies have been hysterical. We love the Pearl videos online. But we as fans of your work feel you need to branch out more and stop playing the same guys over and over again.
John Belushi or John Candy would have been perfect casting

But, they're both gone. Louie Anderson isn't right for the part. They need a new, undiscovered comedian to play the part.

I hope if it does get made into a movie that it gets done right, because it deserves nothing less than a stellar cast, and a fantastic script and a top-line director. This would be really good for New Orleans right now, too...

I'd love to see this film get made, but not if Ferrell and his vortex of anti-comedy are allowed to even cameo in it.

After seeing him in person my first thought was "Ignatius!" But then again Oliver Platt would be great now that you mention it.

And I mean this in the most sincere way possible. I see those, and I just think, "hey, I never knew that Will Ferrell is actually funny." It pains me to see you type casted again and again when you can do better. And I loved A Confederacy of Dunces, but unless you're prepared to gain 100-150 pounds, you wouldn't fit. I just can't imagine Ignatius without his huge lumbering body.

I thought I read somewhere that Philip Seymour Hoffman was being considered at one time to play Ignatius. I could see it.

who really didn't find A Confederacy of Dunces to be very funny? I mean, it was an alright book and everything. I didn't dislike it. But everybody told me how hilarious it was and how they laughed out loud all the way through and I can't recall so much as chuckling once. What exactly is supposed to be funny?

I liked the book, and I found it amusing, and an interesting character study, but I didn't find it laugh out loud funny, and there were times where I remember feeling like it was supposed to be funny in a forced manner, but wasn't working for me. That's why I wouldn't want to see a typical funny man in the role to turn it into some hammy forced chuckle-fest, but rather as an independent film with a real actor like Paul Dano in the title role.

But since I'm not invested as much in the book as others who liked it more than me, I don't care either way, but I probably wouldn't watch it if it starred Will Ferrell.

cannot be translated to film with ease. Mockingbird pulled it off, but the more visual Bonfire of the Vanities proved this reasonably well. as tempting as it is to see Confederacy filmed, this should be left alone.
