Didn't Whedon swear off working w/ Fox after how they treated Firefly? Also, what happened to his horror feature Goners? Burnings questions need answers.

Personally I am going to ignore this series until the end of season two. I can't take watching another show I learn to love, like Firefly, get raped by the Fox morons.

I cannot understand what Whedon is thinking by going back to Fox. Why keep going back to a network that has abused him several times over? Won't any other network bother with him? Is this just a case of preferring to work with the devil you know?

It's only a matter of time before Fox jerks Whedon around again. When they do, who will hold the blame? I'd say Whedon for getting back into bed with Fox in the first place.
why whedon and fox again? here's why

I thought AICN would've posted this sooner. but anyways whedon got approachedby dusku herself to make a series. SHe invited him to lunch because she had a development deal with fox and wanted joss to be a part fo it. Over lunch Joss thought of the basic idea and suku added her own input. a week later they went to fox corp and signed a 7 episode deal. WHedon said he was nervous about trying fox again but was releived when he found out that everyone who ever worked with him at fox was gone and it was all knew people who impressed him. He offered to write and direct teh pilot and based on that the fox heads offered a 7 episode commitment which was good enough for both of them. If fox renews teh increasingly awesome terminator:SCC I'll have faith that they can handle a whedon property again.

herc actually did post that original story back last fall. i hope whedon's instincts are right about this, i won't believe it till i read "fox renews dollhouse for a second season, orders 22 episodes, sorry about firefly", not expecting that last part. i also agree that terminator is starting to find something of a rhythm, hopefully not too little too late.

angel, after fighting back the hounds of hell,is again cursed by a gypsy(Jenny Calendar's sister)..the curse actually turns him human..but only on his actual birthdate..side effect,he ages a full year on that day..but he is also able to reproduce.so he and buffy shag like rabbits on his birthday..sans protection, they are now the proud parents of twins,1 boy,1 girl..they are the chosen 2,and must be protected at all cost,so they are being raised by police officer alexander harris and his wife willow rosenberg, sunnydale high's new technology teacher

If Fox has really ousted everyone who burned Whedon before and filled their spots with execs he trusts, then consider me cautiously optimistic. I wish the premise sounded a bit more interesting, but I expect we've only seen the tip of the iceberg.

how goofy does "superhuman high school girl goes to school with her gang of misfit friends during the day and battles evil in the form of vampires and various prosthetic wearing demons at night" i have confidence that joss can spin just about any premises he wants into spectacular television.

Buffy, Angel, yeah I watched a few episdoes. Several of my friends love Buffy and Angel. Firefly was the show for me. At first I thought it was goofy, but when you watch it on DVD in CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER without being PRE-EMPTED it kicks ass. I watch it over and over again every couple of months and it doesn't get old, it gets better. It was as if Darin Morgan had his own TV series in a parallel universe, the writing was that good!

She is the head writer and showrunner of "Private Practice", the spinoff of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy." And she can stay there. Because women I know who were fans of the show, got mad when Noxon came on to a few episodes of "Grey's Anatomy" and started making wholesale changes for the sake of "Change" and "More Drama and Angst." Granted it got Heigle that Emmy, but I don't know if the ratings will ever return to those phenomenal Season 2 levels. Hey, most people here may hate it, but the show helped ABC turn things around, and it takes the pressure off "Lost", with it's massive production overhead, to play it safe and be a top 5 hit.-----later-----m

Love Angel and Buffy, two of the best written shows ever. Whedon has a fantastic imagination. Hate, hate, hate these two writers, fain and craft. nothing but "Angel's got a big schlong jokes". all of their episodes were written like over obsessed fans who were in between planning the next angel convention. when they weren't touching it to him it was all about spike. GDIACF ladies.

Noxon, as stated above is with "Private Pratice" (never seen an eps personally or Grey's), Petrie is with "CSI", Fury with "24". Drew Z Greeberg with "Dexter". Goddard and Brian K Vaugn is with "Lost". Maybe Mere Smith, Jeffery Bell or Rebecca Rand Kirshner?Ä

Did you guys really think that show about high school girl killing vampires and cowboys in space sounded good on paper?
I didn't and I like both shows. Whedon has the tendency of making a "Sci Fi Special" type of idea and taking it to another level. I'll reserve my opinion on this one after episode seven.

Let me try to understand. People are going to hold off watching this until the second season so they don't get invested in another show that gets canceled, which leads to shitty ratings and the show being canceled. Sounds like a good plan to me. Oh wait... Also, what about bringing Ben Edlund on board? I loved what he did for Firefly, and Angel when he switched over. He wrote some of my favourite episodes! And the Tick is sheer genius.

i agree that if fox renews Terminator, i will sleep a little better that they can handle this show. but if they cancel SCC and renew prison break, that'll be fucking it. the problem with fox is that they expect every show to be a gigantic hit. they invest ridiculous amounts of money into their shows, and when they are only moderately watched, they're axed. how much did the DRIVE pilot cost? A LOT. how much is terminator costing? A BITCHLOAD. how much are they investing in the Abrams pilot? WAY TOO MUCH. just because FOX has exactly two hit shows, they expect every single one to be a smash...if firefly aired on the WB/CW, you know it would still be on the fucking air to this day. we'll see, i'm cautiously optimistic about this, i know i'll love the show, but am weary about getting my hopes up. also, i agree with password.swordfish about everyone saying they won't watch until it's a hit... doesn't really make much sense...

Fox will produce it, but do you think there is any chance another network to air it? Like what happened with Buffy? If not, then yeah, I think we should start the "Save Dollhouse" campaign now. Or, maybe we could combine these two notions, start sending Fox doll parts or something, along with the message: "Save Dollhouse! Fox, please let some other network air it instead of your lame, good-show-killing ass!"

FOX: DON'T CANCEL DOLLHOUSE
by Eaglet1138
Feb 28th, 2008
04:33:48 PM
To Whom It May Concern:

Dollhouse is one of the most original shows to air on television, and certainly on your network, since your early cancellation of Joss Whedon's 'Firefly,' a move which has cost you dearly in viewers and PR in the years hence.

Since the incredible pilot, 'Dollhouse' has only increased in quality. Ms. Dushku represents the sort of strong female role that is missing on television, and the show itself is a powerful allegory for the situation the world is in right now.

I am aware that 'Dollhouse' is only pulling in eight million viewers a week, but it is second in its demo, and with a better time slot and lead-in, I'm sure that could be brought up to twelve or thirteen million next season. Add to this that iTunes sales are currently high, and DVD sales will certainly be high, and it should be clear that 'Dollhouse' is a money-making factory that doesn't come around every day.

I promise you, if you cancel 'Dollhouse' at this time, I will be finished. Your network will have screwed me over for the last time, and I will NEVER get attached to another show on Fox again.

Until the next one.

Signed, Gregory Harbin

He and Dushku worked brilliantly together in Angel season four, when they hunted Angelus and he was dark Wesley and she wass reformed. They had a sory of Slayer Watcher thing goin. The seaonn 1 show where she tortchered him showwed some potential too. Also, he's British so Denisof as spy master would be sort of natural.
