I'm very pleased at that trailer. I agree with Quint. It really got those juices flowing. The very look of it got me excited. And it didn't give anything away. We only got a glimpse of what's to be. Not like those retards who put the whole premise and outcome into two minutes, killing every urge to see the damn movie! I'm rambling, but I'm so fucking happy! X-Files! Oh and fuck all haters. Fuck you all in advance! You have no sense of loyalty and you use the internet to hide your inadequacies and appear superior amidst your unknown and non-caring peers. Mulder and Scully are once followed by a Cops camera crew. This time, in the year 2012. They bust some 'greys' for making meth, nab some Mayan spirits drinking n driving with pot and meth in the car, harass some inbred mutant family fighting in the house, shoeless n shirtless....the usual.

Can't wait for this. Recently watched the entire series in a couple of months, yeah the last 2 seasons were pretty awful but I think I must have missed a few seasons before that first time round- classic telly till season 8. I had it in my head that it kind of lost it after the film. I liked the funny episodes alot more the second time round, I always thought they were a waste of an episode when I was an angsty teenager. Me and the Mrs used to watch Supernatural even though we both appreciated it was cack, now after watching X files again we can't even do that - Scary just got stupid.

and i don't think i could choose. there's a couple runs in season 3, 4 and 5 that are unbelievable. i love the episode where the day endlessly repeats. i have a soft spot for one of the early season 7 episodes in the fast food restaurant. the vampire episode. X-Cops. the season one finale (was that a baby fucking alien?!?!) but as much as i love the show i must admit i've never been able to watch every season 9 episode. i have the dvds, i've tried a few times, but i just can't do it. not because of some insane loyalty to mulder and skully (i really like season 8, probably more than most), but just because... it's just not that good.

Duchovny has a career that has basically faded into nothingness and has swallowed his pride in return for a payday. Gillian Anderson is a bawdy redheaded hotty who knows her fanbase consists of guys who get off on torture porn and spank it daily while thinking about her. Still...I liked the early X-Files...and will Netflix this thing in September.

Duchovny has his own show called Californication, which he just won some sort of award for (Golden Globe or something). I believe Anderson has been working the stage in England and among her other roles she starred in an adaptation of Bleak House and, more recently, The Last King of Scotland, which was pretty popular and won a few awards itself (although none for Anderson). They are consistently working and obviously making a good deal of money from X-Files residuals. I don't think they would even take the roles unless they felt they were well enough established outside of The X-Files.

She just gets better looking as she gets older. Not to mention being a damn fine actress. Why aren't the top directors licking this woman's dainty and pulchritudinous feet...begging her to star in their films? David Duchovney got that song written about him. Well, Gillian should have a whole bloody album!

Approach with Caution
by MajorMajorMajor
Feb 24th, 2008
11:29:12 AM
I want to believe, but I'm going to approach X Files 2 with caution, and wait for the reviews. Like most people, I loved the first three seasons or so. And like most people, I abandoned it when it became clear that the writers were just spinning their wheels. Carter did the same thing with Millennium, which in it's third season flatly contradicted a lot seasons one and two. What can I say? I don't trust his writing. In an age where shows like Lost and Battlestar Galactica show what mature thoughtful science fiction drama can achieve, X Files seems like a step back.

There are references to the overall demon mythology from the first two seasons, but the flashbacks before each episode does well enough to get ya up to speed. Like X-files, the non-mythology installments are where it's at, and this season, that's been the majority. Hell, there was a episode a couple weeks back that had the old Groundhog Day premise that Star Trek ran in the ground, and they made it tolerable.

Quint, You remain right about the trailers
by wilsonfisk89
Feb 24th, 2008
11:55:01 AM
There is a certain iconography that has to be respected and featured in trailers for properties like this, a sense of awe and wonder that modern trailers have often neglected. Honestly, true fans/geeks should be designing, or at least focus grouped, on the trailers. Rambo was another example, not too iconic, also most trailers these days give you too much of the film (lets not see Two-Face until we pay the money to see him on screen!)

I always wanted that scene where Mulder kidnapped a gray to be real. It would of been cool to have him communicate to one telepathically rather then those ugly bounty hunter aliens. It sucked he never really did so during the series even when he was abducted.

Instead of just tracking down a demon that killed their mother and wrecked their normal family life, Season three is focused on a choice Jensen Ackle's Dean made in the season two finale, one that makes you question where the show might be headed, but gives it more weight than previous years.

It's mythology does not drag on like X-Files, and Lost, nor does it keep piling on more questions that may or may not be answered.

During the first season, when I was a teenager, I came in and saw him watching it. I'm like, "What's going on? Why did that guy do that?" And he was all grumpy and said, "You had to have seen the first part." I thought he was just being a jerk (which he probably was), but after I saw a few episodes, I realized he was correct. The first full episode I saw was the first Eugene Victor Tooms one, alone in a large house. Scared the crap out of me, even more than Young Frankenstein did. As for the two actors, Anderson's wisely plugged away at non-mainstream roles, while Duchovny has done nothing. I'm guessing he thought Mulder would launch him into a thriving movie career, but he's forever Mulder. I'm guessing that he was eager to do this movie just to get himself back into the mainstream (his new show has gotten buzz, but it hasn't exactly set the world on fire). And I actually stopped watching the X-Files after about season three, so I guess I should shut up and stop pretending to be smart.

This was a great panel and there was clearly a lot of love for everyone on the panel, especially Anderson and Duchovny. (duh!) They got not one, but two very long standing ovations by the audience. (something that no one else got during the day, that I saw) Yeah, I think Fox clearly knew what the audience was there for, so they changed the order of the original line-up, and put XF2 after Shutter. People were polite, and enthusiastic for Ando during that panel, but clearly everyone, myself included, were impatient for the REAL show to begin. (If the Shutter panel had gone on one minute longer, I sincerely think the audience would have rioted!) I love that everyone from XF came in directly from shooting the movie. Chris Carter claimed that he'd had "about 15 minutes of sleep in the last 24 hours." Everyone was just so cool, professional, funny and charming and it was a very special treat for the fans. Kudos and thanks to all involved! Now, please just make a good movie!

What I was going to say, was that Supernatural uses classic 70's AOR, rock and roll for the soundtrack, NOT punk rock, as you erroneously stated, Ashoko. And I love Supernatural, BTW. Is it perfect? No. But it's a damn fine ride: funny, scary and the best genre show of it's ilk since the hey-day of The X-Files. Rocky, Rambo, Die Hard, Indiana Jones and such. I'm not knocking those movie, I'm just saying that it's been ten years since the last movie and six years since the TV Show ended. I think it's a nice moment in time to bring back the franchise. Not too long where people really don't care and not too soon so that the bad taste of the last season still lingers.

Seriously, check it out. It's not a perfect show, but it's very fun and fairly scary, with good SFX and a very good mythology arc. Sure, some of the "monster-of-the-week" plots are "borrowed" from other genre movies and TV shows, and you can usually figure out where they're going, plot-wise, but it's very enjoyable. (lots of pop-cult, post-mod humor) And the mythology stuff doesn't string you along: you get answers, pay-off and resolution, unlike, say, The X-Files. (And they have a hot and sexy "girl-of-the-week" in every episode!) I really like the classic, AOR rock and roll songs. They must be paying a small fortune for the songs performed by the actual artists, instead of using some cheesy, cover-band rip-offs. Season 2 is where it really starts to gel, and Season 3 has been pretty kick-ass, so far!

but I got so frustrated with the mythology stuff, and I stopped watching after Duchovny left the show. The first movie was totally lame, and completely superfluous to the rest of the mythology. Seriously, NOTHING was added to the main plot of the show. You don't even have to watch the movie at all, just the TV show, and you would not have missed ANY vital plot info. The movie production was too rushed, (Carter admits as much during the Wondercon panel) squeezed haphazardly in between two seasons of the TV show. And I, like many people who watched the movie, have one burning question: just how the hell DID M&S get off of Antarctica? So, let's hope XF2 is a really great "monster-of-the-week" X-Files movie, one that completely ignores any lingering residue of the mythology from the TV show. Been there, done that, already!

I never really watched the show when it was on cause I was young and it scared the bejeebus out of me, but my wife was a HUGE HUGE fan so she got me watching it and now it's my favorite show of all time. Needless to say, after Dark Knight this is my most anticipated movie of the year, hands down. SO FUCKING EXCITED!

X-Files 2, Indy, Dark Knight, Ironman, Wall-E, lots of potential for greatness. I'm definitely looking more forward to this summer's lineup than last year's. The X-Files 2 will open big. The show has had several years to pull in new fans with the DVDs and despite the last couple of seasons, it IS one of the best sci-fi shows ever aired. The fans will come back and if they market it as a straight thriller without the mythology baggage they will get new viewers too.

one of the most underrated shows on television... sure it airs on the CW, where everyone's a little too good looking and whose audience tends to lean towards fourteen year old girls, but creator Eric Kripke has crafted a fucking gem that no one knows exists. the first five or six season 1 episodes are entertaining but pretty basic, but the show kicks into high fuckin gear at episode 8 (Home) and never looks back. it airs after shit-fest smallville (a show i used to enjoy but now is an honest to god chore) and if you pick up the first two seasons on dvd, i guaran-fucking-tee you'll love it. shit, if i knew you personally i'd probably reimberse you if you didn't like it. that's how much i back that show. it's a shame Herc over in the tv section gave up on it so soon, because it would be right up the alley of most folks that frequent here. please, check it out from the start, give it ten episodes.it really is like watching the x-files in its prime, with its own mythology. jensen ackles is fantastic and jeff morgan, who plays the boys pops, kicks unholy ass. jim beaver is a recurring character, you may remember him as Mr. Ellsworth on Deadwood... the writing is ridiculously sharp, check out the usual suspects in season 2 guest starring linda blair, or the episode where the guys are locked in a bank with a shape shifter or, shit, the last two new episodes were fucking awesome. please, for anyone still reading this talkback, do this show a solid and check it out. thanks

Charlie Murphy - With you on SUPERNATURAL, that show surprised me in season 1 with how well made it was, and the backstory gets better and more complex by the season. God knows how Season 3 is going to play out, but damn if it isn't some great X-FILES-alike shit! And count those X-FILES alumni getting in on the SUPERNATURAL production staff... Great, great show.

But does anyone remember FREAKYLINKS? That show had some mad X-FILES vibes to it, but was also irreverent and funny as hell, and Ethan Embry was, frankly, fucking fantastic in it. And Lisa Sheridan, who should've been the next Gillian Anderson / the first Evangeline Lilly! Fucking goooooooorgeous! FREAKYLINKS was a tight, thoughtful, well-written, witty, engaging, kick-ass little show that, if it's not at least revived from the dead (which it won't be, as we live in a world where fucking GLOBAL FREQUENCY wasn't even picked up, after that fucking PERFECT pilot, so FUCK YOU WB!!!) SHOULD AT LEAST BE AVAILABLE ON FUCKING DVD!!! GET IT IN GEAR, STUDIO FUCKERS!!!

My friends gave me the collector's edition for Christmas, and I'm just now about halfway through season 8, which has its flaws, but is still better than most of the crap on tv today (lost and bsg notwithstanding). Most people want to blame the degradation of the show on Duchovny leaving, or that the show had just worn itself out. But after watching hour upon hour, I have a different theory. Near the end of season 6, Carter and Co. made an excellent episode called Monday, which was kind of like the x-files mashed up with groundhog's day. Great episode. I remember watching the teaser stoned in college, mouth agape at having witnessed Mulder and Scully's apparent demise by explosion. But they did something on that episode which they had never done before, which is put our favorite agents into an incident that had nothing to do with an x-file. And here's where they screwed the pooch, because after this ep, Carter and Assoc. started using this formula more and more, to the point where Mulder and Scully (and Scully and Doggett) weren't actually involved in the episode, they would just constantly be 2 steps behind the action, commenting on it like a goddamned Greek chorus. The reason the best episodes scared and intrigued us so well was because the action that took place actually happened to our heroes, who we cared about, and not the stupid fucking snake handlers, or the high school kids who could run fast, or Chuck who came to fuck and his brother with the x-ray eyes. Here's hoping that they have not fallen into the same trap with the new movie. That being said, I've already jerked it twice, just to the idea of the movie coming out. Thanks for your time and patience, those of you who made it this far...

I used to be madly in love w/XF back in the day. In the early years, it was one of the most imaginative shows on the air. But the crapfest that was season 9 pretty much killed it for me. Barely coherent finale, Scully going from strong character to pining for Mulder and crying almost every episode, and the "deaths" of the Lone Gunmen (a real smack to all the fans who campaigned for year 2 of the spinoff and downright MEAN to boot) just left me cold.
--I don't think Duchovny leaving hurt the show that much. I found Robert Patrick to be a great actor and he did the best he could as Doggett. I would have loved to find out more about his character and his take on the Files, the Truth, etc. The problem was, the writers weren't sure what to do without Mulder. If they had concentrated more on the X-Files themselves and the new characters, not getting bogged down with syrupy 'shipper nonsense and New-Conspiracy-Lite, I think year 9 would have been much better... and just maybe I'd actually be looking forward to this movie, instead of yawning.
As it is, unless the Gunmen are back alive and well, I'm not remotely interested in another movie. And yeah, gotta have Skinner in it too.
If my views make me a non-person hater... :shrugs: so be it. Oh, EvilGeek1? The Bermuda Triangle ep was actually named "Triangle." (Not bad for someone who hasn't watched since the finale, huh? Oh yeah, I'm a geek. But I enjoy it.)

and am really looking forward to this. I was totally in love with Scully back then. I saw GA in a play in London a few years back and she is indeed very attractive. However, given her track record I think she would eat up most geeks and spit them out before they knew what had happened to them. She seems to be pretty fickle and unstable where men are concerned. I think she's a long way short of Scully. It looks to me like Chris Carter is banking on this being the first of several movies. Which makes sense, because it's not like he's really done much else.

. . . other than X-Files, so I won't doubt her troubles getting back into character. But for DD to suggest he might have had the same problem is the funniest thought ever. All he's ever played, in anything, is Mulder. I love the guy though. For X-Files and his impersonation of Jeff Goldbloom on SNL. If you haven't seen that skit, you gotta find it. One of those celebrity jeopardy skits.

I was DEFINITELY a huge X-Files nerd back in the day . . . even went to a convention out in here in California that was held in an old military airplane hangar . . . had Mr. X and Mitch and everyone, absolutely fantastic.

I'm really curious to know where we're picking up from . . . are Mulder and Scully together? Where's the kid? Did they get divorced and are forced to team up again (which actually could make for some GREAT dynamics, and be true to the characters)? Or are we just gonna pick up from somewhere in S7?

I'm in all the way no matter what, but it'd be great if they DID bring a lot of people back . . . absolutely CSM and Krycheck, but also the Lone Gunmen if they can make it work, and of COURSE Skinner will be there.

This is EASILY my most-anticipated flick for the year!! I CAN'T WAIT!!

For anyone to look that good after flying from an all night shoot. I mean most actresses need tons of makeup and stylists to appear in public. But you can't fake that natural beauty.

I do remember Freakylinks, was into it and sad to see it go. There was actually a Supernatural episode that reminded me of that show, with some 'ghostbusters' and an urban legend monster made 'real' because of hits on a website. I enjoy Supernatural now and it's definitely the only thing on tv close to being an X-Files heir (Miracles would have been a good candidate, had it lasted). But things were pretty sketchy for Supernatural's first season or so, with some really weak writing. It did improve significantly and it's one of my favorites right now. It certainly hearkens back to a time when a network would let a shaky show with a good concept stick around so it can develop and become awesome over time. Just like X-Files, Buffy and Angel. Nowadays, most shows don't get that chance. Cough..Journeyman...Ahem.

First season is kinda "X-files"-lite, but it picks up pretty well after the midway point. Season 2 was a big step up, and the sadly truncated (due to the writers strike) third season has been flat out excellent. It really is the natural heir to the X-Files and Millennium. Although its tone is (generally) lighter, the unfolding "big" story-arc is as dark and heavy as in the Carter shows, and best of all actually develops... Its not just a cock-tease, where every week you are promised answers but only get more questions and layers of obfuscation.

That's how I like to describe the X-Files. Never in my life had I actually been anticipating a week by week show, but the XF had some of the most intense cliffhangers. Also, remember that the show was saved by the net audience and didn't really get "popular" until it's move to Sunday night. I also would like to think that it made the studios look at sci-fi as marketable again. Everyone always talks about the best eps being Tooms or Humbug or Small Potatoes, but even episodes like Pusher (a classic for sure and probably one of the most shocking endings)endure after all these years. Anyone remember the ep in either season 5 or 6 with the photographer that took pictures of people that would die (it was Scully-centric).

Not one person asked about Mulder and Scully's son. The little man has got to have some involvement in the sequel surely. For years Carter told us Mulder and Scully would never get cosy. This will have an ending which will have fans begging for more. Carter has spent six years thinking this up.
