Good to see that someone else remembers this. Of all the crap recurring characters SNL has recyled over the years, why we only ever saw Harry once is a mystery to me. Other than that, I simply, as always, hope for cleavage. Becaue I'm PATHETIC, that's why!

I know the show takes alot of crap, but no matter what, I'm a fan. On Entertainment Weekley's website, they say that 30 Rock writer Donald Glover has a very good chance of playing Obama tonight. Guess we'll just have to see who gets the part.

...I think MASSIVE HEAD-WOUND HARRY may have only been done once because the dog in the sketch ate the head wound make-up application right off of Carvey's head. He very nearly laughed out loud. It was so funny, it actually improved the sketch rather than ruin it.

I do have to give some credit to the Falconer sketch. It's not that funny; but atleast it's something different.

A) Mike Huckabee will show up in a sketch. The real one. http://youdecide08.foxnews.com /2008/02/20/huckabee-to-make-g uest-spot-on-first-snl-since-w riters-strike/ And CNN reported it on-air this morning. B) Maya Rudolph is not on tonight's show. Her contract this season was temporary, and expired during the writer's strike. Lorne Michaels is trying to get her back. Meanwhile, there's a new cast member to take over the empty slot: Upright Citizen's Brigade member Casey Wilson. http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/02 /20/maya-rudolph-wont-be-on-sn l-this-weekend/ C) The source on that blog post, a NY Post article, notes that they were holding auditions for Obama. http://www.nypost.com/seven/02 202008/tv/barack_alike_98422.h tm

by ZeroCorpse
Feb 23rd, 2008
12:35:38 PM
fundamentalist Christian, hate mongering asshole who actually spent some of his time yelling at the audience and insulting Guardian Angels from NYC when he was on the Morton Downey Jr. Show. He published a racist newsletter for over 20 years and then claimed to "not know" he was profiting from hate speech.

He says he wants to leave abortion, prayer in schools, and creationism in schools "up to the states", but that's just a pussy way of saying "I know the red states will vote my way on this."

The stupid fucker couldn't even get enough anarchists, bigots, racists, and naive hippies (who only like him because he wants to legalize drugs) to get anywhere NEAR the nomination. And you probably want him to run as an Independent, right? Sure, because LOOK at all the support he got in the primaries... He almost has enough delegates to start a basketball team!

Ron Paul is not a liberal, and he's certainly not a true libertarian. He's barely a conservative, but does match them when it comes to some of his xenophobia and catering to the radical religious elements.

Read the papers Ron Paul has written? You mean like the bill he authored that attempted to define life as beginning at the moment of conception thus making it a capital crime to have an abortion for ANY reason? How about the 20+ years of bigotry and racism from the newsletter that bore his name, was signed by him, and earned him a profit? Or maybe you're referring to the personal letters to great guys like David Duke, thanking them for their support. There's more, too. The guy's a slimeball, but for some reason his cultish followers look past (or forgive, or deny) every evil thing he has done, every major flaw, and every moment of batshit craziness because "He's for freedom" or "He wants to legalize drugs" or "He will get rid of taxes" (oh, yeah. That's a good idea. Enjoy driving on dirt roads, idiots.)

The naivety from the Ron Paul followers is pathetic. It's embarrassing. That you'd let a hate-filled, racist, theocratic fuck like Ron Paul lure you like the Pied Piper just because you *believed* that piece of shit "documentary* "Zeitgeist" is just unbelievable. But that's what drives people to Paulism-- Fucking "Zeitgeist", which is largely unsubstantiated, provides very little or no proof for most of its claims, has been disproved on many points, and insists that we're all in trouble because the Rockefellers want to put RFID chips in our bodies so they can control us.

The Rockefellers DO NOT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOU. Nobody cares enough about what you do to bother chipping your sorry ass.

When you really get down to it, the Ron Paul camp is made up of conspiracy theorists wearing tinfoil hats, easily brainwashed people looking for a cause, potheads who don't care about politics but like the idea of legalized weed, racist organizations that like Paul's neo-Confederate ideals, anarchists who just want to fuck everything up, and naive dimwits who don't actually study the candidate they're following but listen to the crowd around him like the mouth-breathing followers they are.

FUCK Ron Paul. He's not only going to lose the nomination, but he's going to drag the Republicans down with him if he runs as an independent. He's the Republicans' Ralph Nader. Enjoy him.

As for me, I'm a liberal and a patriot and proud of it. We don't have room in our government for hate mongers like Ron Paul. His time is over. He should retire to his mansion in Texas and burn some crosses on his own lawn for a change.

Ever since the beginning of SNL back in 75 everyone said it sucked. Then it started with "It hasn't been funny since Chevy left", then "It hasn't been funny since the original cast left", then It hasn't been funny since Eddy Murphy left". Don't forget when Will Ferrell was at his height everyone said "It hasn't been funny since Chris Farley, and Adam Sandler". Now everyone doesn't like this crop, but in 8 years we will all be saying it hasn't been funny since Bill Hader and Andy Samberg. So everyone just shut up and enjoy what you got, because no matter how much you bitch, this show is not EVER going away.

If they hold back the Rome shoot until the end of production and film the NY stuff first, then she could be available to do it. Also, New York ComicCon is happening that weekend at the Jake (4/18-20), which I already have a 3-day pass for. Feb 23rd, 2008
06:31:44 PM
1: Ron Paul is indeed, the Republican's Ralph Nader. And for that, God Bless Him.

2: Tina Fey is funny, smart, and very erection-positive.

3: Obama does not suck. He sure talks slow and he's got a funny name, but the guy came out of law school with everyone telling him that he was the golden boy, that he could write his own ticket, wealth, fame, etc., and he said: "Really? That's awesome! Now I'm going to go over here and work with underpriviledged people for the next ten years or so. Thanks anyway!" Yeah. he's a real dick.

4: SNL does suck.

5: The world needs more conservatives who are capable of believing that all liberals aren't cowardly douchebags.

6: The world needs more liberals who are willing to shut the fuck up for 5 minutes and listen to conservatives. At least the ones who actually have something to say beyond "All liberals are cowardly douchebags".

Oh, and what really cracks me up about McCain
by moondoggy2u
Feb 23rd, 2008
07:38:06 PM
Or really, the general reaction of republicans in reguards to McCaine, is that the moderates, and many conservatives, were tired of Bush and his attitudes and yet chose someone who is, in essence, bush squared.

I still am rather annoyed at the republicans this year. Conservatives disliked Giuliani because the guy wasn't conservative enough on a few issues: gun control, abortion, the fact that new york was a "sanctuary city," and that he was cheating on his previous wife. Overlooking the vast ammount of positives that the guy has AND the fact that the requirements in a city are different than in other areas, they chose McCaine, someone who is even less conservative and has been married three times. Indipendents felt Giuliani, due to his perceived baggage didn't think he was electable and instead choise McCain, whose negatives are almost as high as Hillary Clinton.

Oh well, I guess that's my political rant for this year.

He's a very angry, angry man. I respect the hell out of the guy for serving our country, but that's not enough to justify running it. I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that a Dem will win, no matter what. I just hope it's Obama rather than Clinton. Although I disagree with most of his policies, I think he honestly is trying to do the right thing (at least as he sees it), can't fault anyone for doing what they think is right. Clinton however just wants power for power's sake.

And Emit Brown, the reason Huckabee is all over the media is because interviews and appearances are very low cost. His campaign doesn't have remotely the money the other do, so he's just using what's available to him. He's defiantely not going for the VP spot, if so he would have backed down along time ago. He's gunning for 2012 right now.

What really took the milkshake for me was Hader as Plainview. Hader needs his own show cuz he blows that Frank TV dude out the water. Fey was all passionate about Hilary and I love her for it. Being a quarterlifer dude still kickin' it for Hilary round Chicagoland is a rarity anymore. Hilary and Fey are where it's at when intellectually considering the best runner. Fey & Poehler 2012!

Ron Paul
by The Only Woj
Feb 24th, 2008
03:51:07 AM
Maybe I'm mistaken, or what I've gone and read was wrong, but I could have sworn the Civil War was fought to maintain the Union, not end slavery. "If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that..." On leaving the issues up to the schools: the red states might do it one way and the blue states might do it another. Your way of doing it means it's all or nothing. Either the blue way or the red way, depending on who is in the Presidency and has a hold on Congress. Looking at Ron Paul's primary totals ... think of it this way, if every candidate had equal time on tv, at the debates, I think it'd be a different story. I like Joe Biden. I disagree with his policies. But I certainly think he was swept under the rug. Huckabee only caught on because the MSM decided to put him in front of the cameras. Another issues. Delegates. Most are bound through the first round of voting, if no one hits the magic number they're free to choose. It's a different ballgame then. And on the Democratic side, MOST delegates are NOT bound to vote according to their state primary's results. So all the numbers you're getting of how has what between Obama and Hillary ... that's wide open. Scientically, if single celled organisms are 'alive' you can argue with science that conception creates life. Now, at least with Paul, he then says "it's up to the states to decide what to do with that". Maybe Alabama makes it a crime. Maybe California doesn't. I find it ridiculous that fetuses have rights, inheritance being established at conception, you can be charged for murder of that fetus if you kill the mother ... but that it's not considered a life when it comes down to abortion. That's one of the beauties of leaving things to the states. If the federal government fucks it up, all 50 states suffer. If each state has to do it there own way, say healthcare, some states might fail, some might have huge success. Then those states that failed take on that successful plan. Federal level, you get No child Left Behind. And that failed all 50 states. Maybe you left it to the states and half had successful programs. The other half would have adopted them. And as states improve their plans across the board, the better plans get picked up and the failing plans get left behind. At the federal level, you get all or nothing. Whatever 'universal healthcare' turns out to be, it'll be the same for everyone. Maybe a huge success, maybe a huge failure, maybe somewhere in between. But that's a 220 billion annual gamble. The more local the government, the closer that area reflects the people that live there. What evil things has Ron Paul done? My understanding of the Newsletter business was that, during those years, he was working in his medical practice (where he treated people on government-paid healthcare for free) and wasn't as closely associated with the operation as he was in the past, trusting his publishers with the content. On taxes ... trillion a year from the income tax. cut a few hundred billion on foreign military operations ... 50 billion defending South Korea, 30 billion for being in Japan, etc ... cut off the forced donations we're being made to countries all over the world. Cut off FREE medical care and education for people who are not citizens of our country and don't pay taxes (non-citizens in California, in 2007, cost them roughly 14 billion). Now your lowest income and middle class aren't paying taxes. Maybe then they can afford health insurnace. Or have the freedom to donate their money where they believe it shoudl be used. Let them use their money to combat poverty if they choose. Or let them spend it on bling. It's their money, they earned it. If you got rid of the income tax, we'd be at the spending levels of a decade ago. That's not too bad. We still had roads then, right? And don't forget, this is FEDERAL income tax. Some states have an income tax. I'm pretty sure states deal with road maintenance, right? Who do you want, Obama? Clinton? You want me to pay for the healthcare of someone in Alabama? We're already paying for the healthcare of people in Mass. because Romney's plan now requires federal funding to be maintained. The problem with this theory of collective responsiblity advocated by 'liberals' is that it's forced. It's collective responsiblilty at gunpoint, because we don't have a choice. We're forced to pay for farm subsides. We're forced to pay for corn ethanol production that drives up the price of wheat and isn't even the most efficient way to produce ethanol. so all of you collectivist mongers who sit on your hands waiting for your entitlements to come and not acting on your own to make the differences you seek, you can collectively suck a cock.

In contrast, yes, Armisen's Chigurh was awful, but overall great sketch. Too bad she burned off the opening sketch and half her Weekend Update cameo on p*l*t*cs. The only think that sucks worse than p*l*t*cs are arnusses that discuss p*l*t*cs in public forums.

I'll miss Maya once I notice she's gone, but the new girl has nice boobies.

and yeah, "Balloon Rides" was a pretty cool surreal non-sequitor, while Milkshake was just a catch phrase that isn't actually funny.

I hope Amy's one-legged skank had something soft to fall on, because if that wasn't planned it couldn't have been better times.

Instead of Celeb apprentice for a moment I held out hope they'd actually spoof that sit-com crap national shows on Thursdays. Right, like Fey's do self-parody... Not! (See what I did there, I used an old SNL catch phrase.)

So they still get Darrell Hammond to fly up from Florida once a week just to do one sketch? Can't they just pay him to retire?

By the way, other than her Hillary rant, the rest of Fey's Update stuff was great.

and the one period a year but it's a killer ad has a classic - much better than that digital underwear thing about making a video for grandpa.

And Tina's monolog discussion of what the writers settled for was brutal: they wrecked a TV season for that? Let's hope the next strike in three years doesn't result in the WGA bending over and getting taken like beoyonces again. The animation and reality show writers got scrod rawly.

In the parts I saw, he was the guy getting married in the Sudeikis skit and Judge Ito in the Apprentice skit. Bill Hader is by far the best part of SNL now. His John Mark Karr was insanely funny. They brought back Amy Poehler's one legged farter? Must've missed it...I thought they retired that back in '03 or '04.

...all the people shouting praise for the "Daniel Plainview" sketch, are coming off like people just trying to brag that they've seen the movie.

Seriously, that was barely a sketch! He just kept saying that one line over and over again! How does anyone classify that as brilliant?

Although I will admit, the "I've abandoned my boy!...oh, there he is," line was pretty funny.

Check out funnyordie and David Spade's TWBB spoof. I never thought Spade had the funny, even his smug Hollywood Minutes, but that is some funny shit. That was one hellacious push-up bra Fey was wearing in the Rock Of Love sketch, and Wiig can just stand there and make me laugh. She sold the Hot Air Balloon commercial. I didn't see the opening credits, so the new girl took me by suprise...she's who? Since Maya Rudolph is shacked up with PT Anderson she can take the break and be a stay home mom. And Hader is the new Hammond and then some. Does a kick ass Al Pacino also. Frank Caliendo should stick with his John Madden and leave the rest to Hader, although his Charles Barkley is miles above Kenan's. That was turbil, jus turbil. End Of Rambling....
Yeah. Sorry.

It's just the Paul cultists really drive me up a wall.

Sadly, I missed this episode of SNL. I haven't been rushing to watch it lately. Too many ads, too little funny.

And I think Kristen Wiig is hot, too.

Speaking of hot women, when was the last time SNL had a real Black woman on it? I'm not talking about "I can play any race" Maya Rudolph (she's of mixed heritage, and frequently plays white, Black, Latina, etc.) -- No, I'm talking about a Danitra Vance kind of woman. An Ellen Cleghorne sort of sister. An Yvonne Hudson kind of African American actress... Oh, wait. I just answered my own question! THOSE WERE THE ONLY THREE, EVER!

Maybe it's time SNL decided to have more than two Black people on their cast at a time.

While they're at it, I'm pretty sure I've met Latinos funnier than Horatio Sanz and I'd like them to give Latino comedians another shot, and I don't recall too many Asian American cast members on SNL, either.

But really, they have a Black girl deficiency. One of their biggest mistakes was not grabbing Debra Wilson before that hack-fest MAD TV got her (and daaaaamn is she sexy!)

Why would people brag about seeing a movie? Its not like it requires an entrance exam. Its been in the theaters for months for all to see. All one would have to do is plonk down 11 bucks to see it, and surely thats not a great feat.

...its out there for everyone to see, but loving and adoring TWBB seem to be the new shorthand for establishing your street cred in the Talk Backs.

(similar to previous fads such as: bashing "Little Miss Sunshine"; complaining during S2 and S3 of Lost that the show is too slow and boring and that the writers don't know what they're doing; treating Joss Whedon like he's the King of All That Is Hot Shit!; etc.)

That "Milkshake" skit was mildly amusing due to a pretty spot-on inpersonation from Hader. Beyond that, it was drawn-out and pointless. To hear someone actually say "it probably isn't funny to you if you haven't seen the movie" is kind of insulting. I've seen the movie, and still find the skit bland and uninspired.

That was obviously part of the joke. Huckabee has proven himself to have quite a good sense of humor, and not leaving when it was time for him to go was a pretty good dig at his not getting out of the race. If any media outlets are reporting that as unintentional, they need to pull their heads out of their asses and pay attention to what they're reporting on instead of just inaccurately echoing what some blogger wrote about a joke on SNL...

And thats not an insult, its not saying that if you haven't seen TWBB you're too stupid to get the sketch. But the best gag of the sketch isnt just the dead-on impression, but seeing the milkshake bit taken not just line for line, but with the absolute same delivery, and put in a completely literal context ("that is a pretty long straw" and having him shout "I DRANK IT ALL UP" after he actually drinks the milkshake cracked me up). But if you haven't seen the movie than it just seems like a good impression in a silly scene (though thats exactly what the skit was when Chigr (sp?) came on,which is also when the sketch started sucking).

Let me reiterate: I have seen the movie, and did not find the sketch funny.

Aside from the rather accurate impersonation, that sketch was about as funny as a dumbass walking around doing an Austin Powers impersonation for 5 minutes. It's as funny as a frat boy farting and all of his friends laughing while shouting, "Dude, you farted!" It was obvious and 1-dimensional and repetitive, and though I know that some people found it funny (and for the love of Pete, to each his own!) every time I hear someone say how funny they thought the sketch was, it comes off sounding like they're bragging that they saw the movie and that they 'got' it.

Interestingly, people say the sketch started sucking when the Chiguhr impersonation started. Armison was doing the same exact damn thing Hader was doing, but the impersonation wasn't as good!

Well fuck off, and go write something funny. Why waste my time saying "SNL IS BACK" when the writers obviously spent the strike eating twinkies and doing bongs? Let me reiterate, I wasnt saying everyone who saw the movie would find it funny. Just explaining why pointing out that its not really funny if you haven't seen the movie isnt insultive, because it doesn't take any special understanding of the movie, it is a fairly one-dimensional joke (like every SNL skit). Just that if you didnt see the movie, watching this guy go on about milkshakes doesn't really make any sense.

You could see that joke coming a mile away. Why would he have dialogue that deliberately set up that as a punchline.

Something along the line of "Mike Huckabee does not overstay his welcome. When it's time for me to go, I'll know. And I'll exit out with class and grace." Cut to him not exiting with class or grace.

How could anyone think that wasn't a joke?

I thought it was one of the best so far (this season) and Fred Williams is great, he makes the fucking cast more than many of the others do individually. I agree the Plainview scetch was mostly slack, and the drunken wedding one; but the almost-Jam-style-parody period ad, Huckabee, 'Whos that bitch!?" and the others just seemed wittier & more punchy than usual. Even the opening political Myers sketch didn't drag, limp then die! It was like the break gave them time to flesh out all the comedy beats and ticks. I was also very high when i watched this last night though.

The former Arkansas governor -- who's still battling for the Republican presidential nomination despite long odds -- said on "Saturday Night Live" last night that he won't overstay his welcome.

Then he did precisely that. He lingered on the show's "Weekend Update" set despite repeated cues to leave the stage.

That's kind of a funny Freudian slip. Is Huck's self-deprecation self-depreciating? I thought his appearances on the Colbert Report were great, especially the air hockey game. But this far into primary season when he has no hope, it's becoming ridiculous and devolving into self-parody.
