This critic is essentially in love with the Yelchin, but I've always found him sort of whiney and annoying. Everytime he opens his trap, I want to punch him in the face. He's also goofy looking.

I really don't understand all of this praise for Yelchin. I saw this last week and I thought that his acting was at best amateurish and at worst embarrassing.
looking forward to this

Hope Davis is swell and Downey effing rules. Can we expect an Iron Man trailer in front of this? Double my Downey Dose!
I'm really looking forward to this one

It seems the time of decent movies being released in theaters again is upon us.

I saw this at the Dublin Film Festival a few nights back and thought it was an unholy mess - bar Yelchin's undeniably awesome chops. The main issue I had with it was I couldn't side with the kids, and I know the director wanted me to. Supplying psychotropic drugs to fellow students is not cool, quirky or funny. Its really fucking stupid and irresponsible, and made Charlie look like an asshole, not a hero. By follwoing him like some kind of messianic figure, the kids in turn looked like assholes. And Downey's 'performance'? Please. *Pours Drink*. *Hesitates for a beat*. *Tosses drink back*. *Looks meaninglfully out the window* - does not an alcoholic make. Awful, stilted, hackneyed performance. And the point on which the movie turns? The Martin Riggs/Suicide/Swimming Pool lift? Terrible, hamfisted acting, and borderline laughable emotional u-Turns in the space of 10 seconds. There were some absolutely brilliant moments, such as Charlie's audition, but all told, this was a failure on pretty much every count.

I might check this out when it hits DVD or should I say Blu-Ray? It doesn't even remotely resemble a movie that anyone would have to rush out and see in theaters. If it's any good at all it will be available for (legal) home viewing within a couple of months.

Everytime I hear the kid talk it just seems like an acceptable, but odd, Ferris Bueller impersonation. We already have Matthew Broderick for that.

I was watching a DVD a while back, I think it may have been Once, and I saw a trailer for Charlie Bartlett that said at the end "Coming soon to DVD." Swear to god. Considering the fact that I've been seeing hype for this movie for what seems like a year, it didn't seem that strange.

Pump Up the Volume

I'm sorry, but after seeing this movie it's painfully obvious that the entire film is nothing more than a Ferris Bueller junkie trying to pass off "Pump Up the Volume" as if it were his idea the whole time. The similarities range from slightly similar to downright striking. Loner kid looking for acceptance uses his psychology skills to help the students at a school where he's an outcast. He then meets cute but out there girl (with blood red lipstick) who sees past the myth to love the man. Then there's the parent as the authority figure who could lose his job due to the rebel kid. Oh, and a suicide due to the kid's actions. Oh, and a rally. And a protest. And the cops. I half-expected Bartlett's dad to be played by Christian Slater just to complete the loop. Hack, thy name is Gustin Nash.

The reviewer has Charlie's balls deep down his throat, how uncomfortable. Talking about his roles like they were brilliant performance worthy of all time notariety. How much did the studio pay you for this review. Fuck this movie in the ass with a coffee can.
