Just thinking - wasn't this seam already mined in the 1990's with the Hot Shots movies? - still, will see it anyway. Got a good cast and Stiller is usually an entertaining chap...

Whoever you are - you're shit. Youre no Jack Black. Youre not even a Ben Stiller. Why are you still working? Who is employing you?
I'm sick of Stiller and Black.

What are you talking about... you clearly have no idea who Steve Coogan is. He may not be that well known in America but he's been one of the UK's best comedians for fucking years.

will get me there...just to see Cruise in all of his scientologist glory, all bloated up. And, Downey Jr. playing an Aussie, playing a black man?? Wow...haha!
Coogan is damn funny.

Just another good reason to get out of that nasty summer humidity. I don't doubt "Downey's awesomeness," though, for one sec...And after a second read, Jack Black should have a great avenue with the crack-head role. It's cool that they were able to poke fun at the industry, and...ehh-hem 'cough...themselves'...
Sounds a little like a comedic version

of Walter Hill's Southern Comfort also. I am burned out on Stiller and ( I never thought I'd say it ) Black, but this sounds like a return to Ben's "Ben Stiller Show" days. His agent character from that series was great.
McConaughey

If I remember correctly Matthew McConaughey took over Owen Wilson's role in the film. From these reviews, I think that probably ended up being a good choice in the long run. I've never been a fan of movies where Jack Black tries to not be Jack Black. Doesn't seem like they tried to stifle him here, which is gonna be good for the film. Also I concur on the ben stiller show sentiments.
Cruise is actually a great comedic actor

Thinking of his drunken speech in Jerry McGuire, great timing. He should make a move into more comedies, would help his flagging career.

Downey's character description cracked me up. I'm a bit tired of Stiller's films and performances of the last few years but if he can go back to the quality of Zoolander I'd be happy. Sounds good enough for my 8 bucks.

I cant imagine what the pseudo action scenes are going to be like...I'm picturing stiller diving around double fisting grenades..if it's anything three amigos or anything else i've heard it compared to it'll be one of the better comedies of the year.

You know what you're saying is 100% based on something Courtney Love told a reporter. Let me repeat that: COURTNEY. LOVE. Think about it for a minute, and you might want to apologize to Mr. Coogan.

I was at the test screening also and I can't believe that anyone genuinely thought that movie was hilarious. It's a movie that has no idea what it wants to be - spoof, satire, serious, action. It does none of them well. I think Robert Downey is great but who the hell thought that having a white actor in blackface would be funny? Probably the same morons that thought Soul Man would be a good idea. And milking Stiller playing a mentally handicapped person for laughs? That's sad. And commenter "waites", you are quite the detective. The fact that two people here gave it positive reviews and two on IMDb gave it positive reviews didn't seem to turn on a light bulb in your head. At least one of the two on both sites is the same person (moviemonkey).

If it had been a better and funnier movie, it's inappropriate subject matter could have been overlooked. It's not a bad film because of the subject matter. It's a bad film because it's not funny.

Movie Monkey is not a plant, Nancy Drew

Man, I had to create a login just to post this to stick up for a long time friend. Sorry to those who think Movie Monkey is a plant. He's not but nice try, Nancy Drew. He's a great friend (and a great director himself) and just loves movies. Though it made for a good laugh tonight for me and my wife as his nickname just went from the 13 year-standing 'Monkey Boy' to 'The Plant'. Movie Monkey is just one of the many film-geeks on this site who sees every movie that comes out and decided to comment on a screening. Oh, and I'd trust someone who said 'hi-frickin-larious' before I'd trust someone with the log-in 'finky089'. But that's just me.
