Did I miss a meeting? What the fuck was up with that?

Didja notice how all the ads for "Jumper" only flashed HC's mug on the screen for a second, and his name is NOWHERE to be found in the ads? As Robert Plant said once...it makes me wonder...

Pixar manages to bring out the texture detail while retaining a cartoon style, which I feel this needs. I'm as much of a Star Wars fan as the next guy...but this is overly simplified. I watched the prequels like everyone else. It had some moments that were ok but for the most part my thrll died the day I left the theater after TPM. I went to see II and III to obviously see how the story unfolded but it was very weak IMO and did not live up to the expectations.

My guess is that these take place in between the two seasons of the other cartoons.

OK, for the those who are technical I know that the first episode of the second season Anakin is still a Padawan, but after the episode where he cuts his braid, they show this like long sequence of battles and planets where he saves tons of Jedi.

Then it jumps to him and Obi-wan on some junky planet and he's got long hair. Sad that hair determines this, but do to his hair being semi-long, I'd say this series will take up the 1-2 years after he's knighted but before he goes on his trials.

I'm disappointed that they're not making more of the traditionally-animated Clone Wars cartoon; the 3D stuff looks nice, but the cartoon made me feel like the Jedi were actually badass, while I'm worried that the 3D series will revert them to being just "sorta cool, but prone to being shot in the back by pussies" like in the movies.

Seriously...why does the animation look so bad? Why couldnt they just continue using the crew who did the animated Clone Wars cartoon from a few years back? Oh thats right...they did a better job with the material than Lucas did,so now he's being a bitter little bitch and trying to beat them at their own game. And failing horribly. This REALLY looks like nothing more than a cheap cash grab from Lucasfilm. Hopefully The Force Unleashed and the live action series will be of higher quality.

FIRST OF ALL- The prequels were bad bad movies. Not just bad for a Star Wars movies, but BAD and empty movies. SECOND-How can be still be getting excited over this stale concept? Is it just desperation to hold onto the fading magic of the original trilogy? THIRD- If you have completed puberty and still offer an opinion on these films(HARRY) Lucas has contempt for you. EVEN IF YOU LIKE IT!!! He has verbally painted the picture of the pathetic 35 year old still collecting the toys as if it should be the taget of derision because these are "kids movies." Thats right, he takes YOUR money, insults you, goes back to the drawing board to produce another shit-storm, and you guys just line up immediatly. Aside from how boring the first two were, is the fact that, for some reason, we only see the very beginning and the very end of the Clone Wars when, clearly, the whole motherf*cker should have been about the Clone Wars from Episode 1 on up. I'm assuming the reason this was done was in order to justify offshoots like this; which I'm still excited for, regardless for how much the haters (who clearly must love Star Wars if they spend this much time and energy "hating" it) pretend to hate it.

I hear what you're saying Laserpants, but the CW were eluded to in ANH as that in which OB1 and Anakin fought together.

It definitely COULD have played a bigger role in three prequel films (I agree- Lucas should not have spent an entire film on 8yo Anakin and another on him being a whiny teenager), but the Vader backstory was the rightful purpose of the prequel story, not the actual Clone Wars.

Sure, much of it could have taken place in and around the CW, but the Wars themselves - from a certain point of view (that of the OT)- were not central to the downfall of Anakin and conversion to the Dark Side.

That said, there's no reason the "horrors of war" couldn't have taken their toll on an incredibly gifted, yet innately flawed Jedi who went rogue and became the Emperor's Apprentice.

But Lucas didn't wantr to tell that story, so weesa gotz dah one weesa got.

Anakin going to the darkside after experiencing the horrors of war is exactly what I wanted and hoped to see. I really loved ROTS regardless (its my third fave after ESB and ANH), and I enjoyed parts of AOTC, totally hated TPM (except for the Duel), but what I really wanted to see was a three part galactic war documenting a young Jedi going from good warrior-priest to psychotic mass murderer through the horrors of war. If only! But, eh, whatevah, I loved ROTS. Its the only prequel I still watch and love -- I love it as much as ESB and ANH, just a little bit less, cause, lets face it, the OT pwns the PT.

Then it disappeared until ROTS, when Palps brings it up, and it makes a kind of twisted sense -- his hinting at the fact that Anakin was created by Darth Plagueis, and Sidious stole his secrets. I fuckin' love that scene. McDiamid (sp?) is effing phenomenal in ROTS; totally creepy, evil, and a sneaky bastard to boot.

If it had become a major thing, I would have been more upset, but, when you parse it out, its really not that big a deal -- its not that the Force only has a genetic component, but that these particles gravitate to force sensitives and force users... at least thats how I understand it.

Okay, seriously, yeah, messing with canon is not cool, but then again, having the clone wars around soils the movies in so many ways already, you have to just consider these some decent fan fiction that takes place in some alternate universe than from what has been shown in the 6 films. In defense of Lucas, SW and Indy isnt everything, I happen to think THX-1138 and American Grafitti would have kept George's name in the film history books even if never had made another film after that.

Two, if you haven't seen the trailer for the movie at starwars.com I'd certainly recommend it. From what I can tell, this is the movie we SHOULD have gotten from Lucas instead of AOTC.

Third, and last, am I the ONLY person who played Republic Commando on the xbox a few years back? WOW that game was awesome. it really gave you the perspective on the clone troopers the movies were devoid of, which is a big failure on george's part. STAR TREK JUST PUSHED BACK TO SUMMER '09!
by moto
Feb 13th, 2008
08:17:51 PM
Remember the days when AICN would get these scoops first? Now we have to post them on the TBs for them;) Anyway, Variety confirms...

Paramount is pushing back the release of "Star Trek" from Dec. 25 to May 8, 2009.

Par also is moving DreamWorks' Ben Stiller summer comedy "Tropic Thunder" from July 11 to Aug. 15.

Move was part of a major reshuffling to the studio's release calendar, as well as DreamWorks' release calendar.

Studio insiders said "Star Trek" has the potential to gross more in May than in December.

All the majors are likely to revisit their 2008 and 2009 release skeds in the wake of the writer's strike now being over. There's an abundance of films slated for release this year, and particularly comedies. It's likely that Par won't be the only studio pushing back films to 2009.

"Star Trek" has no competition in its new slot--at least not so far. One week earlier, 20th Century Fox bows "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

Paramount also announced that Martin Scorsese's Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer "Shutter Island" will be released Oct. 2, 2008.

I'd like to add one thing to this debate.

We don't, that being those of us who are still fans (and it was hard for me to realize that I still was one after the prequels) ALL go out and buy everything that's ever had the SW logo on it. We don't all buy and play the video games. We don't all buy the books and comics. Some of us have never owned a SW toy in our lives (like me, and I saw Ep IV in the theater). So that arguement is actually really played out, and for the most part just plain old not true. The only money I've given Lucas is to see the films in the theater and to buy the widescreen VHS and DVD sets. That's it. There seems to be a bashing club up in here that is under the impression that if you say you are excited for this, or that you are going to go see it, that each pay period you are automatically forwarding a payroll deduction to Lucas. That's simply not the case. Some of us just enjoy the escapism of SW. And we don't claim it to be anything other than escapist sci-fi. And on that front, it's still pretty damn inventive and beautiful to look at. I will never argue that the prequels, Eps I and II in particular, are lacking in magic when compared to the OT (to say the LEAST!). But so is pretty much every other sci-fi film. So relax already. I also thought the point about younger audiences being excited about SW was a great one, and important one to make. When I was reading that I remembered taking my neice and nephew (who literally grew up watching my OT VHS) to see Ep I, and making them stay until the end of the credits to hear Vadar breathing. It made me realize that they love the prequels, that for them there was still magic, and that just added to my belief that a lot of people need to relax and appreciate SW for what it is; good escapist science fiction. There will never be another OT.

... Think how truly timeless the original trilogy is. I swear, you release those pics as is (I'm talking original editions, not the special editions) and they are better than most sci-fi flicks out there ever since and up to today. The effects and production design of them, especially Empire and Jedi, stand up to if not beyond the sci-fi out there today. It just looked so damn real. Organic... compared to the shite that were the prequels.

Lucas went too far. It never seemed like we were in another world. It seemed like we were watching some pretty good CGI. But with the originals, it really feels like that universe existed. Lucas' last hope to capture that is the live action series. He NEEDS to hand it off to someone and just work the bible of it all. And not to fucking McCallum, who is one of the main reasons that the prequels sucked if you ask me. He was a "yes man" for Lucas. We need someone that is 35-45 years old. Someone that grew up and loved the original trilogy.

Aweful character design, terrible animation, a story no one cares about, because A: We already know the result of the clone wars, so there's no urgency, B: One of the prequel films should have been dedicated to the ENTIRE clone wars, eliminating the need for this crap, C: The cartoon by Gendy was loads better than this and already did a great job of forming the gap between this aweful trilogy, and D: It's just too god damn late for this. I just don't get the point of all this. George, if you have any sense at all, just give the OK for a live action Knights Of The Old Republic series, don't have anything to do with the film making process, and just retire.

First of all, although many of us are adults (I assume), let's face it - SW is intended for the young and young at heart. Those of you wishing for R-rated reality fests are missing the point. How old were you when our cherished OT hit theatres? You were young kids - and the amazing world that Lucas created worked because it was simply popcorn entertainment at its best. Then the PT comes along, and so many of you get defensive and possessive of the SW universe. Of course it won't be the exact same as Star Wars or Empire - but in my opinion, Lucas & Co. did a pretty decent job of resuscitating a decades old adventure serial. The acting in the PT was wooden? I hate to tell you, but Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher didn't exactly deliver Oscar-calibur performances! The Efx in the PT looked fake? They'd have used that same technology for the OT had it existed at the time (and Lucas and THX are responsible for 99% of film Efx's incredible improvement over the years). Of course GL's making bank, and he deserves every penny. Like many of you have stated, you don't have to pay for these films if you don't wanna see 'em. But bashing SW and its permanent place in film history is a waste of time - yours. The true-blue SW fans (myself included) will enjoy the films (& TV shows) no matter what.

you know, hindsight is 20/20. lucas always said the star wars story was anakin skywalker's story. im sure if he would stop lying to himself he would agree that he made a mistake thinking the clone wars were too big and epic to go into too much detail in the prequels or anakin's story might get lost.

put yourself in his position.. he probably figured..okay.. writing a new trilogy.
episode 1: anakin as a kid!
ep 2: anakin as a teenager!
ep 3: anakin becomes darth vader!!
yes; he should have had the clone wars play a more prominant part. it was an honest mistake

actually, the more i think about it.. fuck him, when you get paid hundreds of millions of dollars to do something... you dont have room to fuck up.

Now I gotta be there. I mean, I never thought the franchise would continue on the big screen. It's been three years since Sith, and George is all like, "Hey, BONUS Star Wars movie!" Oh yeah. Let's keep this a regular event. Say... Coming 2011, Shadows of the Empire, the animated movie. (Or maybe sooner than every three years. As many as they can limbo in before the Mayan Doomsday 2012, the better!)

So this is their 3D animation project huh? Well, Square Enix has raised the bar heavily and it's something along those lines of how I'd prefer to see the Jedis fight... the sad thing is the clone wars cartoon had far better crazy Jedi action than any of the prequels... Anyway I wouldn't mind checking this out, but I'm looking forward to 'Resident Evil: Degeneration' more...

I also do not have cable for exactly the same reason - TV is a wasteland of reality shows and tepid "dramas". In fact, this SW TV show business is one of the only things to make me wish I DID have cable in a very long time. I also agree that a good deal of the talkbacks at AICN are aimed to merely get a heated reaction - some chumps trying to stir shit up. Genndy Tartakovsky is NOT involved
by McNutty
Feb 14th, 2008
12:38:03 AM
Genndy Tartakovsky is the reason that the Clone Wars animated series was so damn good. If you add up all the episodes, it was about an hour and a half worth of some of the best Star Wars stories since, well Knights of the Old Republic(someone posted a pretty cool movie of the game, does the voice and everything. http://youtube.com/wa tch?v=CnNcIzS3N9s ) So going back to Genndy... that guy can create some amazing action sequences that make the jedis in the Lucas prequels seem silly in comparison. So what we have with this new 3d Star Wars Clone Wars animated movie is Lucas' attempt to make a better cartoon than Genndy. I DOUBT that will happen. I for one am not too excited about this. I would have been maybe after episode I came out.... but gimme a break, we already know what happens to the jedi... the clone wars(which was only created by Palpatine to get his crown of emperor) seems pointless to watch now. What we do want to learn about is everything between 3 and 4. Until I hear anything positive about this movie, I really don't feel like spending any more money on a sub-par story with pretty lightsabers moving around the screen.

There Should have been 1 Prequel Movie
by romanocc
Feb 14th, 2008
06:45:38 AM
I understand Lucas can make more money with a trilogy, but there should have been one 3 1/2 hour Prequel that pretty much fleshes out the Episode III story with bits and pieces of flashbacks taken from Episode I & II. The problem with Episode I & II is because the movies were essentially setups, as Lucas said 60% of the Prequel story lies in Episode III, it turned so many fans off by 2005, most people didn't care at that point. After being burned with Jar Jar, Jake Lloyd, childish humor, and a bad romance, Star Wars movies had sunk to a new low in the genre. If Lucas just put out 1 Prequel Movie out in the year 2000, and really took the time to create a great story, a great reason why Anakin turned, and hired a good writer and director and JUST OVERSAW the project as Exec Producer, like he did with ESB & ROTJ. There would have been very little backlash, cause the story would have ended right then and there, and people wouldn't have 3 years to complain about this and that between movies. The PT was not this huge story that SW fans needed to see, we just wanted some great plot points: The Duel on the Volcano Planet, Meet Anakins Wife, Empire Takes over, the Birth of the Rebellion, The Birth of Vader, and the placement of the twins. All this happened in the quick-cut 2+ hour Revenge of the Sith, when it could have been really fleshed out to 1 epic movie that told the story we waited since 1983.
I'd be more interested in a KOTOR movie.

I am telling you if Lucas did 7,8,9, I would atleast be interested in seeing them and would definitely go opening night, cause that is essentially a whole new storyline, where you actually don't know what will happen, who will survive. All this movie/TV show is, is just more Clone Wars stuff, and we have already been there. You may not believe me, but trust me, I won't be there in August.

More Star Wars . . . shit, ten or fifteen years ago I would've gone crazy over the amount of new Star War related material coming out, but now, after the prequel trilogy . . . eh. Lucas has lost his spark. Let someone else, who still has theirs, take over. That's why Tartovsky's Clone Wars series worked so well. He still has his. It still didn't feel like original Star Wars, it wasn't THAT cool, but it was pretty badass, just the same. But this whole project is flawed from the get-go. The Clone Wars were all a ruse, a shame, to get Palpatine into power. There's no suspense left. It's not nearly as cool as we all imagined it would be lo those many years ago, listening to Obi Wan talk about his wartime experiences with Anakin. A shame Lucas didn't write it all back then, then let some new director, who would've been faithful to his orginal vision, take over. I still love Star Wars, and I would love to see this work, but . . . what are the odds?

But I prefer the 2-D Tartovsky version. This looks too weird. Too...I don't know...it's just a preference I guess. I could totally go with a Han Solo series with Nathan Fillion though.
Bored of the prequel era; enough already.

This is not about more insight on Anakin. It's about Lucas who hates his audience who dared boo his mediocre directing and scripting skills of the PT. Yes he's a good storyteller but he sucks behind the camera and directing anybody and anything. It was his talented crew that made the OT. It's like forcing PT stories on us ,pushing again and again "see PT is good stuff" and it's NOT. Why not just remake Ep. I and II as cartoons too while you're at it. I hope the ratings are horrendus and everyone is bored of it as well. Lucas has to be sent a message that fans will not wait another decade(or 2) before we get what we really want: 10 to 20 years of stories AFTER ep. III of Vader in Palpatine's fascist empire, or Ep. 7 , 8 and 9!, and not having to buy into crap Lucas in his pride is trying to force feed us into agreeing as classics as Ep. IV and V which will never happen.
The Pilgrim, the SE & PT killed the OOT

The reason so many fans like myself hate the Prequels & Special Editions is because it made the Original Versions obsolete, except for that crappy non-anamorphic bullshit DVD versions put out in 2006. If Lucas would have left the OT alone, and didn't insert Hayden in ROTJ, or that stupid song in Jabbas Palace, or of course Greedo shooting first, most fans would have moved on from the PT and wouldn't have really cared. Most people aren't annoyed at the updated special effects, as it was the ridiculous jarring scene changes that pisses fans like me off. So if I want to watch a high quality version of the OT, I have to watch the Special Editions with all the stupid shit Lucas put in there. By not releasing the OOT in the same quality as the SE, he is essentially MAKING us recognize the PT, because we can't watch Sebastian Shaw at the end of the movie as a ghost, which has a totally different meaning then Hayden Christenshit lurking there next to Alec Guiness and Yoda. The day the OOT is properly restored, is the day the PT & SE bitching should stop from my fellow OOT fans from 77-83, but as long as Lucas says, "Those versions don't exist anymore, and he puts them out in laserdisk quality, the man who was god to me growing up is Darth Vader now, a man who murdered and betrayed the good George Lucas.
