People--Do not judge until we at least see the trailer. I am 34 years old, I grew up with Star Wars and Indiana Jones, and I can not wait to see this film. My dad took me when I was a kid to see Temple of Doom in Tampa when it came out in the summer, he even grew out a "stubble beard" so he would look the part of Indiana, taking his two young kids to see a pure escapism, awesome adventure movie. Now, my dad died of cancer 5 years ago, but God Damn I will be first in line for this movie, with my 9 year old nephew, (no kids for me yet) so he can see how fun and exhilarating it can truly be at the movies. I hope that Steven and George were able to recapture the feeling and excitement of the other Indy movies. All you talk backers already dissing the movie without even seeing a trailer yet?????? Please give me a break and wait and see if the trailer shows the magic and excitement of the other 3 movies. I am SO looking forward to this, and I firmly believe that Spielberg and Lucas WILL NOT let us down....

But, it's the classic 'use exacting photo reference' montage with a definite nod to the king of montages himself, Mr. Struzan. Don't get me wrong, I think that both Fleming and Struzan do soem great work -I'd just like to see more organic work like that of Richard Amsel or John Berkey. Then again, with photoshop these days-- I guess we're lucky to see any real painted art at all... Indy 4 better be good Doctah Jones!!!

Actually, a good majority of the "fan-geeks" are already complaining about the new Indy movie from one quote, and one quote only: "THIS WILL BE IN TONE OF THE LAST CRUSADE." Now, This probably is not verbatim from the quote, but I firmly believe that this is the quote that got everyone upset. C'mon people. Wait until the trailer, wait, for God sakes, until the movie and then judge. If the worst thing about "THE CRYSTAL SKULLS" is that its tone is like IDATLC, then I will still be first in line to see Harrison say, "Trust me." And you know what: I DO............

I actually prefer Bill Sienkiewicz's more abstract renderings - as pieces of art (not just advertising), I feel that Struzan's stuff can be a bit too mechanical. Sometimes I feel like I'm looking at a one of those 'draw exactly what you see' books...Work like that - based solely on technical skill - usually doesn't get much respect because it seems to lack emotion. He certainly has a knack for capturing someone's image perfectly, but this is - one could argue - just mimicry. Sorry, I'm not trolling and I know I'm going to get the hate piled on for this sacrilege...but I think there are better, more sincere artists out there than D.S...I think this is even more obvious considering the recent coverage of the passing of John Alvin, when we were shown one after the other some of his best film posters. He honestly wasn't even in the same technical league as Struzan, but I think most of his classic posters pack more of a punch, regardless of how simple they are (and at least there was more variety in there, different attempts to convey the idea of the film instead of 'montage #6' and etc). And I actually like the rough look and texture of this Fleming piece. That said, I feel The Mist poster is one of Struzan's best pieces in years.

Terrific art. I'm pumped. Can't wait for the teaser, and sure hope Spielberg didn't screw the pooch. His "I'm doing this for the fans" talk made me a little scared since more often than not they use this to explain the shitty nature of money-gabbing turds (most notable recent exceptions being Rocky Balboa and Rambo - at least in my book) so I'm a bit anxious. Bring on the trailer!

Perhaps you were just making a joke about Ford having a "pimple" on his chin...but, in case you weren't; that isn't a pimple. It's his "trademark" scar...he's had it for years. Spielberg and company even "explain" the scar's origins in the prologue adventure of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". And to all the "haters"; could you be MORE nitpicky? The things you complain about are just ridiculous. I expect the next hater to write something like; "Why does Indy have a mouth?" or "How come Marion is looking at something? How stupid!"

Nice to hear there are some 'students' of the great movie poster artists out here in AICN land. (Duh!?!) I'm not a hater of heavily photo referenced art or nothin' --it just can look pretty stiff at times. I remember becoming familiar with Boris Vallajo's work and wondered why some of his figures had kinda goofy expressions on their faces WELL, he copied his photo reference exactly! Also, there is probably only so many photographs of Harrison Ford out there to use in an Indy or Han Solo Illustration that you can easily spot the same photo used by a billion different artists in a billion different renderings. I don't know how exactly guy's like the Berkey's, Amsels, Scienchweiz' and Alvin's did it back in the day. But, I'm guessing they probably had to rely more on imagination than photo's. Still, as I said earlier, I'm always glad to see painted art over photoshopped posters/ covers anyday. Seems like the 60's -80's was kind of the modern hey day of movie poster illustration. Hope it makes a comeback soon! DUM DA DUMP DAA DUMP DAA DAAAAA!!!
