What is this crap? I always thought Harry was a "blue collar" movie reviewer, but I've been reading some stuff online tonight that changed my opinion. Went to youtube and entered his name, this is like the third video that came up: What the hell is this? If Harry reads this, bro, I won't make fun of your weight, I'm a chill guy. But, please for yourself and I think engaged or married right? change your lifestyle and eating/drinking habits for your family. You don't need to have six-pack abs, but seriously bro, you need to get out of a wheelchair. There are long term healthy lifestyle choices you can make without crash dieting and in a year you can get down to 240-260 and walk by yourself. Please man...

I always thought someone like Lawrence Fishburne would be the one to play Destro. I mean he has the deep voice, looks like Destro when he's bald - Morpheus. All they'd have to do is add a chrome prosthetic and you'd have Destro. But they decided to go with a white, English actor instead? What?!?

That could be a good name for a character. His backstory would be something like he was a Catholic priest who just loved diddling kiddies until Cobra enlisted them for their Global Molestation Initiative. (The secret double whammy coming when we all find out that Cobra is actually a front organization financed by the US Govt as a way to justify the insane budget for the endless fake war fought by the GI JOE corps. Any similarities to ongoing events taking place in real life right now is wholly coincidental. )

Destro was *NOT* a black guy with a metal head, he was a Scottish white guy who wore a metal helmet that was passed down from earlier generations of his family. Sure, he may have been voiced by a black guy in the cartoon series, just like Darth Vader was voiced by a black guy, his character is actually white. So the casting director has got it right and you need to go and read some GI Joe and get your facts right. End of rant.

if he's a black guy or a hispanic guy or red-headed cross-eyed half-Inuit. He'll be wearing a mask.

ANd even if the mask comes off at some point- still, who cares as long as the actor can accurately portray the "spirit" of the character.

Something NOT liekly to happen so much with - say- Wayans as Ripcord. But, whatever. This movie sounds terrible beyond redemption so far.

been reading, but Destro was white as a ghost. First, he's Scottish. Scottish going back centuries. The dude is lilly white. In one issue of Joe, I'll have to dig through my closet to find the number, Baroness is consider leaving the whole Cobra/terrorist/military thing behind. Destro said he would give it all up for her. He takes off the mask, you see his face for the first time, and they kiss. Now I don't know if in the newer issues of Joe, the non-Marvel ones after the first series, they retconned the character, but he's as white as they come.

by systemsbroom

The GI Joe episode that got "political"? Some reporters were hassling GI Joe about how expensive the Joe program was, and about how Cobra didn't really exist, in an effort to get GI Joe shut down, but then, it turned out the reporters were all Cobra agents in disguise!

Just goes to show you: whenever somebody criticizes ridiculous military spending, they are probably just the Baroness in rubber mask trying to trick you.

Scarily yes, I remember that one.
by Grammaton Cleric Binks

The anchor's name was Hector Ramirez, a thinly veiled spoof of Geraldo. But, if I recall, he was real, and all his co-workers/crew were Cobra agents. It's scary how much minutia is stuck in my head.
Yes! He was Geraldo!
by systemsbroom

Eccleston is great...but...
by lynxpro
Feb 12th, 2008
11:46:14 AM
...he's not exactly buff. He's also not Scottish. The story behind Destro's mask was that it was handed down in the family and his ancestor had earned it by having backed the wrong side in the "English Civil War" and provoked the wrath of Oliver Cromwell himself. The mask was meant as punishment. That's from what I remember without hitting up Wikipedia. Then there's Destro's Illuminati-esque cult that has that octopus creature underneath the family castle. But I digress.

by ProfGriffin
Feb 12th, 2008
11:52:47 AM
I'm fine with the talent...Eccleston is a fantastic actor...who can no doubt affect a slight Scottish in old Chrome Head...but either the costume designer will have to be creative...or Chris will have to undergo a massive work-out schedule. Since I seriously doubt that...I vote for dramatic costume.
Still I'm going to miss that huge buff guy in the silver mask with exposed cut chest and red medallion.
Egads! Did that sound gay!
At least we don't have a shirtless buff bald guy in a cape and monicle...

...yet.

Too bad Gerard Butler wasn't cast as Destro, he'd be perfect(voice and body). Now, if only the filmmakers would drop this "Rex" nonsense and make Cobra Commander a bad-ass world terrorist with ties to Snake-Eyes and Zartan, this film will rock.

Yes, yes it was you idiot!! "Dr Who?" (with question mark) was the title of the series in the UK since it's first black & White episodes. Only truly stupid people think The Doctors name is Who. The title refers to the mystery surrounding his name...hence the title is a question.

Well atleast in the Devil's Due GIJ comic. He was revealed to be the bastard child of (the orginal) James McCullen Destro. ergo Destro Jr. If anyone could play the Baroness it's definatly Monica. I vote Russel Crowe for Zartan and Daniel Day Lewis would make a great Dr.Mindbender (especially after watching his performance in TWBB.)

any non-Marvel comic version is non-canon. He was white in that one. Question on Devil's Due to show you how long it's been since I visited comic book guy, is that an issue, or an actual independent comic company. I forget who did a version of Joe after Marvel. If they made Destro black they seriously screwed up. I could care less if he's black, white, or orange, but they gotta be consistent with Marvel canon.

The Devil's Due/Image comic is somewhat canon to Marvel as it is a continuation of the series.Even Joe creator Larry [Hama] had written a few issues for one of the Joe spinoff titles.

Me personally, there is only ONE destro, his son was mainly used as a plot device for added suspense during the 4 issues of the 2001 miniseries. So now you know, and knowing is...ah fuck it.

Okay, that's what I thought. The Image comic

had Destro as black, but it is not the same Destro as in the Marvel version, but his son. Did I get that right? One of the best Destro issues was the one where he came back to his castle only to find an impostor Destro there. His guards kept it simple. The one who beats the other in fisticuffs is the real Destro. Of course real Destro won, and the phony turned out to be Bludd.

...so he can do some of the interesting theatre he's been talking about or to go off and do some more challenging indy movies, then fair enough. Expectations some of you have for a GI Joe movie are fuckin' laughable.

Since he's an evil criminal he's gotta be a black man, right? One only needs to take a quick look at Destro to see what facial feature makes you all subconciously think he's black. racist motherfuckers! www.cracked.com/jp/destro3.jpg

If you look at any full body shots of Destro you can clearly see exposed white skin under the zipped open part of his jacket, despite his big lips, penchant for stealing things and dodging his phone bill.
Scay thing is the guy who did Destro's voice

looks a lot like him. Just shave his head, and paint his face silver. By the way, the voice actor was of course black. http://images.search.yahoo.com /search/images/view?back=http% 3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.co m%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fei%3DUTF -8%26p%3DArthur%2520Burghardt% 26fr2%3Dtab-web%26fr%3Dyfp-t-5 01&w=132&h=162&imgurl=www.joeh eadquarters.com%2Fvo%2Fburghar dt.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.j oeheadquarters.com%2Fvo%2Finde x.shtml&size=11.7kB&name=burgh ardt.jpg&p=Arthur+Burghardt&ty pe=jpeg&no=3&tt=23&oid=0f4180c 71a4d2716&ei=UTF-8

in the comic, Marvel used to have commercials for them. (Bill was probably footed by Hasbro). They didn't do it much beyond issue 14 I want to say. Anyway, the guy in the commercial had a so-so voice. It was okay. Then the cartoon came up with Arthur Burghardt, and they nailed it.

Michael Bell, who like Frank Welker has done everything under the sun in voiceovers was Duke. Well, it appears he was also the voice behind the talking tub of Parkay maragrine.

CE needs to go back and put some spice in heroes. I really got to like CE as Claude. I just hope this movie does not turn out to be another F4. Season 3 of Doctor Who stunk, except for a few episodes. DT is ok, but I am ready for a new Doctor. Get that guy from Jeykll.
