They had an article in EW about how quickly these shows could get up and running again if the strike is solved this week. Show like The Office could start up relatively quick and but shows like Heroes etc would only be able to make around 3 "quality" episodes, so they would probably wait until fall to starting airing it again. 24 has 8 episodes in the can but so far it looks like they will hold off at least till the fall to start running them, but they may even wait until next january...

Ausiello talked to Lost producers and they said that if the strike ends this week, around 6 more episodes would be completed... Bringing the total for season 4 to 14 episodes instead of 16. But who knows, if motivated properly with quick completion, all 16 might get finished... wishful thinking, but again, who knows...

Why shoot 6 and not 8? I know a lot of work goes into an episode but still, what's 2 more at that point? In for a penny, in for a pound. I'm sure those two will just be lumped onto season 5 but after waiting so damn long for season 4, it's sort of irritating.

why they might only shoot a certain number of episodes
by jccalhoun
Feb 10th, 2008
05:41:38 PM
THey might only shoot a certain number of episodes rather than a full seasons worth simply because there are a lot of actors that will probably be wanting to do films during the time that has already been schedualed as off season. Even if they don't have any film work schedualed most actor contracts state that they are free to do other work after a certain date. If they want to film after that cutoff date there will be lots of negotiations and bonus pay. So they will just film as much as they can until the pre-scheduled end of the filming season.

that's kinda pointless since if you read writer's blog, you'll see that they're all basically a bunch of sheep, going "let's wait and see how everyone else is voting before we decide". Just get someone to tell them "you can vote yes, all the cool kids are doing it", they'll fall for it
Disappointing, At Least A Bit

Chuck, Pushing Daisies, and Dirty Sexy Money are all out until fall. At least Chuck ended on something of a moderate cliffhanger. 24 should figure out a way to tie up the threads they had hanging after 8 eps, and focus on delivering a great, solid 13-episode arc. If they can do that without it getting bloated and stupid, and have it segue into a new full season for next year, I'd be a happy guy. As it is, I find the seasons are getting too rambly and disjointed, telling one cohesive story better, even if it's shorter, would be a huge step up for the series.
Oh, and that arc

That's when the SAG's contract expires. They were waiting to see if the writers' contract would be better than the directors' contract. Lopez blatantly stole from Chappelle at Grammys
by Burgundy82
Feb 10th, 2008
11:45:59 PM
George Lopez, who was on the Grammys for some reason(???), chose to spend his 30 seconds of stage time completely ripping off an old Dave Chappelle bit about a black president having a Mexican VP for "insurance."
The interesting thing? Lopez is friends with Joe Rogan who, not being at all funny or talented himself, spends all his time calling out other hacks for joke thievery. Anyone think Rogan will call out his buddy?

Didn't give it much of a chance when it first aired just because they called it "*WOMEN*"S Murder Club". I'm a bit of a ballbuster and wondered why they couldn't call it "Murder Club" without the distinction. However, it is rotation on cable now and I'm quite enjoying it. Same with "House" and "Bones". Never saw them regular schedule but they are quite interesting. Although, I still have a hard time seeing David Borantez anything other than a Vampire with a Soul. I just pretend he does that FBI thing on the side but the he goes back to Cordy and sings Barry Manilow with Krevlorynswath. Ù

...at least that's what one of the producers was saying on tv...unless Fox forces them to come back earlier.

There was also an interview recently where they revealed the aborted "African" plot wasn't about any cool mission or something like that--it was about redemption for Jack. He was going to be doing charity work to soothe his soul!? Sounds like it would have been incredibly lame.

Just like that classic episode of THE SIMPSONS where the kids step out into the sun and start playing after Marge takes out Itchy & Scratchy, I've been able to catch up on lots of things without being tied down to a bunch of TV episodes. Books, graphic novels, DVD sets, concerts...Hell, the rest of the country actually became interested in the Presidential election. That's a good thing!

Sure, I'd love some fresh episodes of REAPER and additional episodes of LOST beyond the eight we're getting, but if that's the price of saving civilization from the return of the new BIONIC WOMAN series, GREY'S ANATOMY and DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, so be it.

how is it tv's fault if people spend all their time watching tv? you aren't forced to sit there and follow 56 series a week. i dont understand people who blame tv or even video games for people being lazy couch potatoes. you dont HAVE to spend 6000hrs a week on there, you CHOOSE to. but i guess people always need something to blame other than themselves.

American Gladiators
by Coenbro
Feb 11th, 2008
12:53:25 PM
As one who works as an editor in TV, I am quite glad this thing is over. But I have a question. Why does everyone always reference American Gladaitors as some sort of show that was put on because of the strike? This show was greenlit in April or May. Ben Silvermen had been wanting to do it for years. Strike or no strike, this show would still have aired. And Strike or no strike, it would have done just as well. Strike or no strike, shows like this are now a fixture in the future of TV. We all have to get used to it. And it's not like the show is bad. Stupid? Silly? Sure. But is it as terrible a a bad sitcom or shitty CSI clone. Nope

"Several analysts have suggested that the strike will end with each side losing. Ratings at each of the networks except Fox are down substantially since the strike began, with advertisers being given rebates or "make goods" because of the ratings fall. Producers of scripted television shows have been informed by the networks that "efficiencies" are being instituted that in some cases will result in the networks skipping the pilot process. Networks often pay as much as $2 million to develop a pilot, only to decide later that it is unsuitable to develop into a series. Indeed, the networks are likely to cut back on scripted TV series in general after audiences demonstrated during the strike that they preferred many cheap game shows and reality series. With fewer pilots and scripted series in production, writers are likely to find work opportunities substantially curtailed. Moreover, while it had been presumed earlier that existing series whose production had been cut short by the strike would resume once it was settled, several reports cast doubt on whether marginally rated shows would return. It had previously been reported that Fox's 24 would be postponed for a year and that ABC's Lost would probably have its 16 episodes cut to 13 this season."
