I would like a no ha ha toon on primetime that is serious maybe go with violence this time and action. I think Star Wars would cover this soon but I don't get why all the comedy?

Because generally speaking, any sort of animation in the US has a lot of barriers to overcome. For the most part people still see it as being for kids, etc. (you'll run into plenty of adults who are embarrassed to admit even liking something like Ratatouille, for example). As a result, TV and movie animation generally has a pretty high barrier to overcome... although fortunately, this seems to be loosening a little bit; Persepolis seems to have avoided this pitfall. But I think the idea of animation = kids stuff has meant that most animation in the US has to at least be in the comedy realm to do fairly well. Certainly it's not to say that serious animation isn't possible - it goes without saying that if you look to, say, Japan, where animation is used for a pretty wide variety of genres, you can find plenty of serious animation out there. It just probably wouldn't do that well here.

a pretty crappy premise. He should have tried to avoid the pseudo-sitcom setting that's been copied by every animated series since the Simpsons (with the exception of Futurama). Look what happened when The Family Guy creator just made another family with different personalities, we got American Dad. Now that show is an abomination.

That being said, I've been catching King of the Hill every now and again. I kind of forgot about that show but after watching some older episodes and some newer ones, I now remember how good it was. Underrated to be sure.

Idiocracy nailed it.

What a great movie! And it is always amusing to watch the idiots too stupid to understand it self-identify. But if this show is on ABC, there is no way it will be even one quarter as sharp. My guess is it will be a duller version of Moral Orel.
New King of the Hill Has sucked

They have taken each person on the show and lampooned them to the point where it's no longer funny. For instance Luanne used to be kind of dumb but big hearted, now she is retarted and selfish. I used to think that that show could never piss me off but just the way they killed off Cotton was enough to make me cancel it from Tivo. I just pray that fox keeps the Terminator show, that has been edgey and cool so far.

King of the Hill is like the second longest running cartoon, and FOX doesn't promote it at all. New KOTH has NOT sucked, it's just been just as consistent and in-character as the rest of the 12 years.

I'm with DanielKurland on this one. KOTH is probably the ONLY show I've seen in the last decade that is consistently consistent. It's hands down one of the best written sitcoms out there. And notice I didn't say "cartoon". Cause it's NOT really a cartoon. It may be animated but you could take any episode in the show's history and film it with living human actors and it wouldn't miss a beat. Hank and Bobby's relationship may be one of the most realistic and honest father/son character studies I've ever seen in a half hour sitcom.

america going glug glug glug down the toilet. it is scary how accurate that film actually is. after electing a two term doofus. America may get either get McCain or Clinton. We are looking at a McCain and huckabee ticket. What does this have to do with idiocracy. Huckabee in picking his team cannot ignore CHUCK NORRIS. Chuck NORRIS as secretary of state. is horrifying prospect. Rent idiocracy and watch your future. Judge was not so far of the mark. one day who knows if things do go to pot you can all expect President Norris. no really....

I loved Office Space-who didn't?-and Idiocracy, but I absolutely despise King of the Hill; hate every second of it. But then, I like Family Guy, so there's no accounting for taste I guess. If this new one is going to be like Morel, I'll be pleasantly pleased.
