CBS would never permit death matches. Will they be forced to get married in there? God damn you, Big Brother, stop making me tune in to sample your unholy wares!

Some dig Idol. Some adore Supernanny. Some drink Biggest Loser as their cup of reality tea. But Big Brother is the show to rule them all. Now on to the frustrating RealPlayer sign-up procedure!!

like Puck was for REal World San Fransisco. I also hate that they've completly gone to the good looking hollow, empty souls once again. I've been watching the show since season two. And they have made so many mistakes to improve the show.

But seriously, isn't it sad? I mean, I GET it, I understand what the appeal is. But what I don't get is how people still see it as novel and keep watching the same personality types clash in the same predictable ways year after year on these shows. They're always throwing mentally ill people into the mix. And they ARE mentally ill. Matter of fact, I bet eventually we'll get a psychiatrist with a show on E or the TV guide channel diagnosing reality TV stars. (these have date stamps, so don't be smart and think you can do it now)

I don't have some kind of moral problem with these shows, whatever works will get bled dry and that's just the way it is. These are all adults, they can be responsible for their own well-being. People who say it's exploitation need to go work in a mine sometime and get back to me on that one.

Oh, boo-hoo, poor me, I was famous for 15 minutes and now I have all the problems I had before I was famous for 15 minutes. Maybe I can get 15 more. People like Amarosa? NOT A CHARACTER! She couldn't act her way out of a haggle over a 2 dollar bag of fruit and I bet everyone she knows that doesn't need anything from her hates her with a passion. Help is not coming for her.

I rant, but really I'm just so surprised so many are still so fascinated with fluff like this. Someone needs to show them the documentary channel or maybe the channel could use a little more promotion. Because if you want reality, it's really out there. These shows are essentially the equivalent of Marlin Perkins on Wild Kingdom, shoving prey on predator in order to get the shot... but with people... and background music by Papa Roach and Cake.
gotilk, you think Amber and Jamika are mentally ill?

They're not mentally ill. They believe invisible people in the sky controlled their fate because they're really into Jesus. Happens a lot in these parts.

Honestly. I don't think people who watch this stuff are stupid or have any less taste than I do. I just can't get into it and don't understand the appeal after this LONG.

No, you don't get it because you're obviously not watching it anymore. You say all the characters are the same types, but we never got an Evil Dick or a Jen or an Eric until season 8. Who knows what we'll see this time? Also, you are obviously mentally ill because your post is like all the troll posts of the past and we all know that internet trolls are mentally ill people, so there ya go mr cliche. Also, documentaries all all the same. Showing stuff about something historical or whatnot, trying to portray it in an interesting way. Also, all TV shows are the same, with mostly the same character archtypes saying things to each other. Also, all media is the same, where you see or hear stuff that makes you think about stuff (or not). Why not just go outside and enjoy nature? Also, all nature is the same. A bunch of rocks with dirt and plants and stuff growing around it. Also, everything is the same...collections of atoms arranged in patterns that vibrate. Sooo boring. Why bother with anything when it's all the same?

rumour is that big brother matched each player up with their soulmate, they will play together and be eliminated together. Will also be a shorter season.

Are you talking about Dick or Cail or Jen? They don't seem any crazier than members of my family; can you be more specific about which characters you're referring to?
only seven eliminations?
by whoanecron

that WOULD be a short season, especially since two teams need to be left at the end.

And yes, some specificity on Gotilk's part would be useful. Is he talking about Eric the firefigher from Janelle's cast? I think that was more roid rage than true mental illness. Aside from him there was the knife guy from season two or something, but I think he was just a redneck goofing with his girlfriend.

it was not my intention. Just an opinion. I even made a point not to be insulting to anyone about it. About specific characters, I couldn't say. I have not watched these shows in years in any way but through osmosis and peripheral viewing. (people I know still watch a lot of these shows, and I respect them so I suggest not taking any of this personally)

And trolls insult people for attention. If you noticed, I made sure to be honestly non-insulting about the whole thing. Also, it's the best place to discuss it. If that offends your sensibilities in some way, not much I can do about that.

I WILL say that back when all of this stuff started, I found Real World to be crap from day 1 and found Big Brother entertaining. My whole post was more about the genre than anything.
Pretty deep stuff, eyegore.

But not trolling. Read it again. Pretty plain english, pretty specific on all points and never once insulted your taste. What about Neutrinos? Maybe they're all different. That'd be a trip.

Big Brother is not American Idol; it's a window into the human condition that only half a million in prize money can buy. Also, it's evolved a great deal since season one; each season seems to load more sophisticated strategies as viewers-turned-contestants grow more familiar with the game. Each season at this point is like a masters class in psychology.

The person who said they put mentally ill people on obviously doesn't watch. BB is other reality shows with gimmicks (such as survivor) stripped down to the bare essentials -- pure, driven greed, politicking and deception. A great study into the human nature. Yeah they'll never be able to match the Donatos -- world's biggest assholes. Dohato-haters for life!
Wasn't complaining.

But I stand by what I said. I said reality tv in general. If this season of this one show is magically different, I'll eat my words(and they'll be magically delicious). In other words, I'm going to give it a shot before I personally pass judgment on it.
