every so often, a film or a book or an album comes around that speaks for a group of people that might not have the chance to speak outwardly for themselves. while i can't totally empathize with iranian youth or deem this work as somehow speaking for many of them, it's been my understanding that many iranians find themselves at ideological ends with their fundamentalist government, at least judging by what i've read and watched. if this is the case, it's awesome that the graphic novels and now the film can be something to stand behind or to clarify the iranian situation for those folks who view them as largely hostile to the western world. i've read through the graphic novels and the situation that marjane communicates is so relatable. while some might dismiss her as too westernized to speak for the iran of today, she represents the common ground of pop culture that many folks meet at and communicate in with relative peace. i'm pretty amped to see this movie...
looking forward to this gorgeous movie

thank you so much for this wonderful interview, Capone. this film looks amazing, and from everything I've heard, it's a real shame it wasn't nominated for more awards over here.

and Capone, shame on you for not mentioning to your readers that she's a stone cold fox!

That's a very interesting interview, and I am certainly looking forward to the English version. I believe the cinemas around here in England are getting the English language version in April, so roll on April.
Thanks for the interview.

Easily one of the best movies I've seen in a while. Glad to hear they're expanding the film into more theaters. When I saw it in Boston I noticed online that it was only in thirty theaters which was a shame. With the state of the world it's a film people need to see, even though it's not explicitly political.
That was a brilliant interview!

Seriously, probably the best interview I read on this site. Marjane Satrapi rules. Persepolis is the only film that made me laugh out loud as much as cry.
Superb Interview

Thanks Capone and AICN. Eevry now and then somehting on this site will blow me away. That was a thoughtful, meaningful and a pleasure to read. Persepolis is a great book - and this interview rivals anything in "literary" publications, you'll find.
Incredible film

More than any film in at least the last year, PERSEPOLIS has stuck with me. There are a lot of cool movies that we read about on this site, but this is one that is so amazing because it is, above all, truthful. It's like a kick in the head that you want again. It reminded me that, although we see a lot of "good" and "evil" in movies, we know that they're just stories. But the evil we see in PERSEPOLIS is real, and even though things in the U.S. are far from their best, at least here I can feel hope that things can always get better, and feel gratitude that I don't have to live with the same daily fear as most Iranians. I know this post is rambling, but WOW. This film is a must-see, period.
thank you

thanks for such a great interview. I've seen the films six times already, twice in a theater, and what an experience it is. If i ever have a daughter she will certainly be named Marjane. I hope she'll get to be at least half as beautiful, courageous, interesting and smart as Ms. Satrapi. what a lady!
Get the book(s) if you haven't already, they're great.
