I'm glad to see the news is right and this film is going forward. I've enjoyed everything that Gilliam has made to greater and lesser degrees. Heck I own Tideland, that's such a difficult little film.

does nobody remember brothers grimm and the order? why must the public feel the need to fondle somebody's career just because they died. Sure, Ledger was good in dogtown and decent in brokeback (though it's kind of suspect to hook up with a female co-star in a gay cowboy movie, almost like you're trying to convince yourself at that point) and will kick ass in Dark Knight, and I guess it sucks that the rest of the actors in Dr. Parnassus got jewed out of a paycheck, but stop the pity-fest already. Awwww, too soon?

Why not just have the character be played by one actor in some scenes and (inexplicably) another actor in the rest. Luis Bunuel did this very effectively and I think the weirdness of it would suit Gilliam very well...

Gilliam should film the rest of the movie with actors wearing Heath Ledger masks. It could give the project a weird Silence-of-the-Lambs kinda vibe.

the imdb reference was important, and only 2 sentences of the entire thing. did you even read it? this is important information about the fate of a movie by a fascinating director, whose main star has just died. how is this unimportant?

fuck, I hate people that just complain for the sake of complaining. you are a fart in the elevator of the world.

imdb listing, mirror stuff... DOn't you see that we have a source within the production saying that the production is moving forward ? Don't you see we'll have an official website later TODAY ??? Great news as far as I'm concerned... I'm a Gilliam fan, he's one of the greatest filmakers alive... His last, Tideland, was a masterpiece and this one, Parnassus, seems to concentrate every part of his universe and imagination... Can't wait !

Surely he would have learnt the HARD lesson from his doomed La Mancha project - know when to walk away, know when to run!

Sure it would be nice if dreams could come true and somehow Ledger's incomplete performance be saved by some sort of Movie Magic and the end result be a great film - BUT THAT'S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN

The best anyone could possibly hope for is a film that doesn't suck - much - let's not kid ourselves here. There is a time to dream and hope for the best - that time has passed - it is now time to move on...
Yeah, gotta give Gilliam credit...

Every time a new actor emerged in the role you would be yanked straight out of the movie and you would automatically start thinking about Ledger's death, the attendant stories, etc. Basically anything else other than the story of the film you are watching. It couldn't help but be a fuck up.

Brothers Grimm was a fucking ungodly awful piece of shit. He could blame the studio for that. But who does he blame for the ungodly awful piece of shit that was Tideland? Great book, great cast and crew, creative control...Stinking pile of dutch angled lazy shit. Sorry man, but Gilliams boat saild a long, long, long, long time ago.

...I'm not being unkind, I really thought Tideland was the worst movie I ever forced myself to sit through, simply because I respected the directors previous output. Way to fuck a corpse? You don't think Ledger would want his work to go on? Plus it's easy for you to say they should wrap it up when you have zero time, energy, emotion or money invested in the film. Ledger worked as an actor, I'm pretty sure he would want his final performance to be realized and he would probably want his friend Gilliam to finish his movie. It's not like Gilliam is profiting on his death.

Both the producers and Heath himself said he finished his work on the film, including ADR. There's enough drama with this story without creating more.
He finished so he could work on other films

It only takes, what, a couple of days to complete ADR? And they shot for like fucking forever so I doubt they'll need reshoots. And not all pickup shooting would involve The Joker, would it? And if he WAS needed, his stand-in could be used for something like an added establishing shot.

So, maybe Gilliam likes the challenge himself with difficult projects that Hollywood studios don't always want to make? Look, the guys passed on the opportunity to direct films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Enemy Mine, Braveheart, and, god help us, Forrest Gump. JK Rowling even wanted him to direct the first Haarry Potter, but the studios wanted Chris Columbus fluff (which is actually fine). He's spent months of his life trying to bring you a filmable 12-hour Watchmen script. Chronically underfunded and always under fire, he hammers away on projects for years, just out of inspiration. Not sure why there's so much hatred here or why you wouldn't want to at least give this a chance at being good. So, all you naysayers better watch out, or The Pirates of The Crimson Permanent Assurance will be coming for you.

One good thing about Heath Ledger--he wasn't a smart-mouthed turd whose claim to fame is being a talkbacker on a site for worshiping movie characters. Hopefully someone in your family will die tonight and someone can be flippant about it for you tomorrow to give you a taste of what you're dishing out. Probably you wouldn't care if someone in your family died anyway, though, would you, dummy?

He was on several prescribed medications at once, and they interacted and killed him.

So the mean people can stop saying it was suicide and he deserved it. The hopeful people can stop babbling about how they'll miss him in heaven. The cynics can all continue to say it doesn't matter because he didn't know any of us, personally, and wouldn't mourn us if we died.

But he didn't kill himself intentionally. He was ill, and couldn't sleep, and just took drugs that weren't supposed to be taken together.

in Die Hard Dracula, didn't they keep changing the "actor/s" of the titular character? granted the film was utter, utter shit, but this messing about with the cast did not in itself create that circumstance.

showing his wang.

Anyways, I hope it works and doesn't pull us out of the film. I can imagine people thinking "was this planned or is this actually how it's suppose to happen?" Instead of being taken by the story it'll just be an intrigue. But it all depends on the film.
