lets just hope that SOMETHING good comes of this reunion. we don't really need the show to come back on the air but we'd love to get a film or at least some character tv movies out of this. keep your fingers crossed, some of these people don't despise the show/man that made them stars and some of them seem like they could use the work.

As big of a Buffy fan as I've always been, I still don't quite get what the deal is between SMG and Whedon and why she seems to have a hate-on for Buffy. I think there was something about sex scenes with Spike, but what's the bigger story?

as far as i understand, SMG doesn't get along with him anymore and she seems to think that her career was hurt by the show. as if she had an acting career before the show? ...and david boreanaz had said after angel's run that he was tired of the character and ready to try something new. i don't think he despises whedon, but i'm pretty sure SMG does. i really hope i'm wrong though... i'd love to see them both back in those roles somehow.

That's what I always heard was the end to their professional relationship. Everyone's heard the gossipy rumors, but it seems that they both still hold each other in high regard, they were just very, very tired. And no way does SMG think BtVS ruined her career. She was/is iconic as Buffy. She will always have that. I can see how that could be a detriment in certain circles, but I can also see how she would be hella proud. I would be.
I always thought it was kind of silly...

that people complained about Buffy and Spike's relationship because Spike tried to rape her. I can understand if these were supposed to be two normal people, but the whole point of that rape scene was to show that Spike was a monster because he didn't have a soul, and thus Buffy could never be with him. Once he got his soul back, he was no longer inherently evil, and was literally a different person (if still kind of a dick).
(I bring this up because someone mentioned that SMG didn't like the Buffy/Spike relationship, and I remembered that that always bugged me, lol. Carry on.)

...but she's still going to be there? The only reason I can think that she would is because her film career isn't going as planned and she's hedging her bets by falling back on past glory. She certainly never gave a rat's ass about the show when it was actually on the air. Still, it would be interesting to see her and Whedon do the fake "after YOU my dear Alphonse" number. As for Hannigan and Boreanaz showing up -- if they get on the same stage as SMG it will probably signal the apocalypse.

But no Alyson Hannigan? At least not yet? Even Amber Benson is going to be there & she refused to return to the show after her character Tara was killed. Ever see her on a talk show? She has a couple of cute well rehearsed stories to tell. She laughs in all the right places and reveals nothing about herself or what she thinks about anything. A talk show is just another acting gig. She never hangs with fellow castmates. She doesn't talk about past roles like Buffy. She doesn't go to fan conventions. She is above it all. She is very unapproachable. She is more human on screen. If she lowers herself to appear at some place like Comic-Con, it will be to promote a new movie not for a Buffy discussion. There has to be something in it for her. She won't do it just to hang with (or give back something to) fans. I love her as an actress and give her all the kudos in the world for her work on Buffy. I don't think anyone could have done it better. But as a human being, she's a cold fish.

When Buffy was on the Wb it was essentially her show. When it was picked up by the UP network for an additional two seasons it was considered to much more of an ensemble. People make a big deal about actors etc not getting along but really how many people with whom you work do you pal around with?

They can assure you all they like. If she's not officially listed, she ain't coming.

Face it. She hates the show that made her a household name. Maybe when she's old and used up like a burlap sack, she'll find some grudging acceptance for the residual cheques it keeps bringing in. Like Shatner but with some hair and a singing voice.

to be fair, i don't think being the lead in a show like Buffy is an 8 hour gig. i think that when a show like that is being shot, it's probably more like 16 hours a day most days a week. of course, there are the extended breaks when the show isn't in production, but i don't think an office job is the right comparator.

As i understand it, entirely through rumour and the internet, the tension between SMG and Whedon/the rest of the cast was that she was very focused on her work and career and less so with the being friends with everyone on the set. which was apparently summed up in the way that she announced she was quitting the show to a magazine first rather than tell her fellow cast members. and also how she didn't attend the wrap party for the final ep. my guess is that, despite all this alleged bad blood or whatever, SMG and Whedon will be all happy and smiles when they appear on the panel together. i don't think she'd attend just to be a bitch to everyone and Whedon doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to hold a grudge.

Really? That must be why after starring in an awesome TV show as a strong, intelligent female she is continuously type cast in crap movies as a ditzy 15 year old girl. I mean, her movie career has been one terrible choice after another and it has nothing to do with Buffy. I mean, maybe if she was in movies where she was a vampire/demon hunter I could see that. But instead she has made terrible "Romantic comedies" and some pseudo horror schlock which most people had seen 10 years earlier when the original Japanese version came out. Maybe the movie version of Alice will turn things around for her. I think she's a great actor, but her movie choices have been pretty brutal. As for Boreanaz? Hell, the guy played the same character for 8 years straight. Of course he was tired of it. Actors like having a steady job but they get into the business to try different parts. Being one character for 8 years would exhaust anyone. What I hope for is that this will encourage Whedon to get off his ass and make a new TV show. It's the form he's easily the best at. I still hate what he did with Firefly when he moved it to the big screen. Reminded me of Galaxy Quest only without the sense of irony. Make a new TV show, or ANY sort, and put SMG in it.

My comparison still stands. If 8 hours a day is more than enough to be around someone's co-workers imagine the extended hours of a 1 hour action show. Being the lead in a 1 hour action series is the toughest gig there is in the business.

15 year old girl movies? WTF? She's had plenty of roles in different movies since Buffy and a lot in the works now. She can do whatever the hell she wants, not what people want or thinks she should do. She did a couple of horror flicks, the Scoobies, and some romantic stuff. Sure it would be cool to see a Buffy\Angel movie but I don't blame SMG or anyone else for not wanting to come back and the same character they played for so long. Both shows had good runs, not as long as they should have but they both went out in style I thought and the new comics are cool too. The reunion thing would be cool to see. SMG rules..

All the stuff I've ever heard was that it was a mutual agreement between SMG and Whedon for the show to end. Yeah it sucked that it went away but if they did it any longer it would have gotten stale. I guess they could have gone on without her and called it Buffy's family, that would have been lame though. And Buffy wasn't a boring character, she was great, as were the others on the show.

Seem to bear out some of the things said here. She's said a couple of times in interviews that unlike the rest of them (who formed long-lasting frienships), Gellar preferred to keep relationships with the cast and crew on a strictly professional basis, and that while she didn't know exactly why, she respected Gellar's decision because no matter what she was always a dedicated professional on set.

Which is of course a story is that in the begining SMG and Joss were very close, father and daughter type of close. Then when Joss went off to start "Angel" and put Marti Noxon in charge of the show, SMG was not happy. Seems she was not at all thrilled with Season Six as it's suckiness nearly destroyed the show (musical number aside). She came backj for 7 knowing it would be the last; but told no one until mid-way when she told Joss and he agreed. Not telling anyone it was over till mid season upset Alyson who thought it was 'low' to inform folks they were gonna be unemployed over the holidays... and so forth a such and such but, anyway... who really knows, right? Unless you were there, it's all Hollywood BS.

by Boomer32
Feb 6th, 2008

After going over a number of interviews and articles, I think the story goes like this: SMG and Joss were very close who, by season 4, often consulted with each other over story direction. She was upset when the show moved to UPN and Joss to other projects (Angel \ Firefly) but he assured her everything was going to be fine. It was at first but as time went on, she became frustrated with the scripts and believed many of them had Buffy doing things that she believed Buffy wouldn't do. She took her beliefs to the writers but despite what they said, she saw little change. She then went to Joss directly who agreed with her and informed the writers that the only one who knew Buffy better than himself was SMG. She finally saw some results in the final scripts. It is said it was around this time that both realized the show could only work if each made 100% commitment and since both wanted other projects, the decision came to end Buffy.

You are sounding just like that You Tube guy who did the "Leave Brittany Alone" rant. What was his name, Chris Crocker, I think. I think you can have a life apart from show biz. But you don't have to wear your big old smiling and frowning theater masks ALL the time. You can be yourself once in awhile in public. Take the mask off. If you're not going to reveal anything of yourself, why bother to appear in public at all. Acting is not like your average office job. These are people you cry with, scream at, get naked with, lots of things that I don't do at my office. I would think that would be a bonding experience. Although I don't hang out with everyone I ever worked with I have a few life long friendships that started at the workplace. SMG and Freddie are like Ken and Barbie living in the Malibu beach house. I think anyone who is a fan has heard about the season six muck up. There is the jealousy angle, because Willow was getting some prime time, and there is also Buffy going OOC (out of character). And in the series she did go OOC in season six - doublemeat palace, screwing Spike - but Joss wanted to take her in that rutterless course and Sarah wanted the Hero. Can't blame her really but I think that is why we got the over the top Buffy speeches in season seven: He was trying to placate her OR! he was rubbing her nose in it (I think the latter, as we actually had Andrew with a video camera blah, blah, blah, buffycakes over a speechy talk in the kitchen).

However!! I just finished watching season five not ten minutes ago, and by gum, if that season doesn't keep growing on me as time passes. In the past, seasons two, three and four were almost constantly interchangable - Angel, Faith, Drucilla, Spike - but season five is has past two and is gaining ground on four.

The inculsion of baby sister Dawn, in what should have been a cliche to rival the worst Growing Pains episode, became tender and caring (mostly on SMG selling of the character). Spike's inner and outer juxtaposition on Villian v. Hero became a story that rivaled poetry. And while Clair Kramer gave us a great vapid God, Joel Grey was the evil star (shallow cuts; shallow cuts.)

I am amazed that something such as this has been off the air for FIVE YEARS - seven, if you count S5 - and can still be thrilling and seemilingly so original. It was like it was lightening in a bottle. U

The guy acts as if he fucking hated Buffy/Angel. When he was on talk shows promoting "Bones", people would mention "Angel", and he would laugh as if it was some childish thing, and act compeltely above it. It really put me off him, as if it were not for Whedon's show, the guy wouldn't have a career now, and he of all people should realize that although the shows may have had "embarassing" concepts, they told some unbelievable stories. He can't honestly believe that anything he's done on "Bones" is better than anything having to do with Wesley on Angel, or "The Father Will Kill the Son". When speculation on an "Angel" movie was happening, I was positive it would not move forward just because Boreanaz seems like he never wants to touch that character again, and that's a huge shame. Glad that Gellar at least is starting to realize the value of those shows though.

Any interview ive saw her in she has said she has been glad to play a role model for girls and the like. And the reason she didnt ike S6 is because they made her have sex with Spike in a dumpster, on the balcony of a club and anywhere else that totally degraded her. And after the attempted rape the Buffy character was still dependant on Spike through season 7. That whole season 6 and 7 situation was just crazy, it wasnt Buffy and i cant blame her for leaving.

They can't hear your through their Whedon-haze. They cancelled the show four years ago, and they're still talking about it like it's still on. They make Trekkies want to say "Wow, check out those crazy obsessive geeks!"

When Whedon dies, expect them to try to declare a national day of mourning, and be prepared for a lot of Browncoats and Scoobies slashing their wrists in grief.

I tried to watch it, too. I think you have to have the attention span of a spastic hamster choking on a caffeinated grape to enjoy Whedon's work.

Either that, or we missed the episode where Joss hypnotizes and brainwashes the audience into watching the other episodes and LOVING THE SHIT OUTTA THEM.

Just walk by and try not to let them notice you.
