I just reread through pretty much his entire run recently and was impressed by how consistently excellent the entire thing has been from 'welcome back frank'. For me the guy pretty much owns the character now and I hope the next guy coming aboard is as equally fucked up as him. Its just a shame he killed off every single baddie he invented, particularly (spoiler) Baracuda.

That was the second surprise I had recently during my comics catch up. I hate crossovers but this one was well planned and thought out with excellent mood and pacing that never let up on action and suspense. It was also nice finally seeing all the good guys across the books finally united instead of at each other throats, the ending sort of reshuffled the X-men universe in a way that is making me curious enough to start reading more than X-factor, astonishing, and new x-men.

An image of Spidey holding a gun at you, the reader, yelling "Just shut the @#*% up and give me your money!" I know it was meant for shock value and we later learn that's it's not Spidey...it's the "Spider-Mugger"...but can Marvel be any more obvious? Quesada wants YOU to shut the @#*% up and get over it. pffft. After 30 years of Spider-Man comics collecting I say get over this...ZZZIP. Make MINE Marvel, Joe.

I don't want to sound like a pathetic fanboy, but it seems like you guys aren't fans of Cap, or Ed Brubaker, or both. Cap #34 is arguably the most important comic coming out this week (if not this season), and I'm surprised to see nothing written about it.

Unless you didn't get a preview copy, and if so then I apologize for the limp sniping. I do love the @$$Hole column.

I was surprised there wasn't a Cap review in here too, but if they didnt get a review copy I'd imagine they'd have it next week (I got my copy of AXM end of last week). As for Cap, I thoroughly enjoyed it from a plot standpoint. Brubaker's use of "voiceovers" do a real nice job of getting inside Bucky's head while he's in costume, especially as he has to begin to change his fighting style to line up more with what the world would expect from "Captain America". The mortgage crisis plotline is meh, and the ending ***Spoiler***, while serving the previous storyline regarding the brainwashing of SHIELD agents, felt a bit contrived. Art was still solid, and the costume needs to be seen in the light of day before I give it my full blessing. But it was a good start and not a complete dessicration of Steve Rogers

Me:"Yeah, Doc, I always dug the issues where you tormented Cap, the Falcon and Spider-Man. Anyway, the reason I'm here is that I fear bad retcons."

Dr. Faustus:"An understandable fear, Mr. Maverik, one I would exploit had you any value to me. Do you fear that since Spider-Man was poorly retconned in Marvel Comics, that further poor retcons will be done to correct the original?"

Me:"Exactly, Doc. I mean, I think that they should have to plow right through this, you know. Fix it with writing, with a story line, not with Peter waking from a dream or something."

Dr. Faustus:"I think you are beyond help, Mr. Maverik. Unfortunately, I must supervise my henchmen in the placement of psychotropic gas bombs throughout the city. I'm referring you to a colleague of mine, one Dr. Lucille Van Pelt, who should be able to empty your bank account a nickle at a time..."

BND & Astonishing X-Men

Wow, I disagree with Ambush Bug. That's not something I like - his reactions to Civil War were extremely close to mine. But Brand New Day was just meh. It didn't feel brand new, it was fairly dull, the new villain is not impressive at all (yet), I HATE Harry Osborn's return to the land of the living, and I despise the way Spidey is now as incompetent in the 616 universe as he was when he started out in Ultimate. Yeah, I know, he's a hard luck hero, bad things happen to him and that's where much of the fun lies, but in these three books he was like a rank amateur. Add to this McNiven's stilted artwork and I'm left with the feeling: THIS is what they risk a huge fan backlash for? The Decidedly-Average Spider-Man? Sheesh. As for Astonishing: it is DULL. Breakworld is such a boring concept, the story is drawn out beyond all reason, it all seems so pointless... I really liked what Whedon did at the beginning of the series, but this final arc is a mess. So I disagree with Rock-Me as well. Thank goodness there are some things in the universe which never change.

Well, it's over. I think it's a pretty satisfying end. I've read most of it in trade volumes so it's been more like one continuous story to me. Not sure what it was like for anyone that's been going issue to issue. The finale is basically one big epilogue, and a bittersweet one at that. All in all, I'm satisfied. As for a movie, I'd prefer a tv series to be honest. There are just way too many possibilites to explore.

I was bitter at the end of AXM 24 because I thought the arc was over, and how very fucking Marvel that there is gonna be a giant sized special to rape my wallet of 3.99 extra. That said, well done Marvel for having Garth Ennis do Punisher for so long now. Sure, most people are sad he's done, not me though. When Preacher ended, I could've never imagined that he could write The Punisher, who always seemed like a cool idea but was pretty much always the star of a shitty comic, for longer than Preacher. Those issues (35-37?) from towards the end of the first Knights series where Castle blows Wolverine up with a RPG and leaves only ankles and a head were awesome. Ennis' Punisher MAX, though, is some brutal shit, with serious ultraviolence but also great characters (Rawlins and O'brien, Zakharov, and of course Bara-motherfuckin-cuda). The six issue long stories only got better and better, hell this last Barracuda story was, I feel, the best one in the entire series. So I hope the guy taking over for Garth on Punisher has got some sweet ideas, or no more 2.99 a month.

I stumbled onto it by accident a few months ago and totally love it. I hope it manages to survive, cause it seems like one of those titles that might not have a wide appeal. The artwork is neat and it deals primarily with Japanese mythology / magic meeting modern culture. And, no, its not manga! The artwork is really pretty neat; kinda abstract and rough, but really pretty and expressive too. Check it out sometime. Its pretty neat.

When it should be BND TRYING to get you to like it despite the horrible precursor. Im sorry but Slott starts out the first fucking page with Peter making out with some chick in a nightclub like some fucking douche bag. The only thing he is missing is the white polo and flip flops. Moreover, the dialogue of "Alright, I know this look bad alright? But, like, it's going somewhere alright?" makes him sound like Quentin Tarantino pitching a sequel to Ishtar. Just horrible.

With this Marvel Secret Invasion thing that is happening, what are the chances that Spidey was a skrull who made the deal with Mephisto? No? Lame? Just wondering if we are all being led on a leash.

The super special, one of a kind, worth-rewriting-history-to-des troy love Mephisto sought would actually be the love fake Skrully Peter has for Mary Jane? Oddly enough it wouldn't be the oddest idea from Marvel. Like, real Peter comes back and Mephisto is all like, "Oh, this guy I don't really care about so much. Real Peter Parker's love for MJ is sort of a average typicl not-so-hot locve for a woman. And MJ's love for him is only so-so too. But MJ and the Skrulls love for each other? Crazy hot and intense, a love so powerful that anyone else having to live in its shadow once it was over would be doomed to live a pale mocking imitation of that love. Anyway, the Skrull is gone now though so, you know, good luck to you and MJ!"

Add me to the love train for Y 60. I can't remember when I've felt so moved by a comic. Awesome and thank you BKV for a comic that I will always value.

OTOH, AXM...not so much. I don't really get the love. Not to be a hater, but it's just so boring. At least it doesn't have Cable, though. Messiah Complex was ok, had the good moments and a lot of weak crap...sort of typical X-Men, but more tightly written and drawn. Nothing special, for sure.

Young Avengers: Patriot: Agree 100% with the review.

LOSH? Finally started picking it up again after dropping it because Mark Waid is such a boring, whitebread writer. And what do I get? Um, more whitebread Legion. Look at Timberwolf. I'd say they're a bunch of models, but a bunch of models would be more diverse and interesting than this. Shooter, come on...step it up! I am now dropping Legion again, for the zillionth time, and will give it another chance the next time it's rebooted. I have periodically liked it (like during the "what's holding it up" era, the Giffen era, the Kinetix, Andromeda era. Why is the future always so full of one-dimensional throwback caucasians?

But I was still the first kid in town with a copy of Y 60. And in all reality, fuck that Amazing Spider-Man bullshit. This week, I got Y, Astonishing X-Men, Punisher and Ultimate Spidey. I also think there's an issue of Daredevil or Batman coming out sometime tomorrow... (I run with a shitty schedule, man.) But Y, Damn. First off, I breathed one big sigh of relief when they didn't go the "crazy/dream/snowglobe" route. I mean, I knew they were better than that, but I still had my doubts. And Zardoz, **Y-The Last Man Related SPOILER** Perhaps her name was Peace, as seen on the tree. ***End of Spoiler***

But after reading Y, Punisher, Astonishing, and to a lesser extent, Ultimate Spidey and I guess Thunderbolts and Daredevil, which I knew came out a while ago, but I just picked them up, I realized there is no reason for me to give a shit about Amazing SPider-Man or the majority of mainstream Marvel/DC. Thank you good writers and artists, you have more or less freed me from my bonds. I know I'm a bit of a Vaughan-faughan, but still, that was some quality stuff. I've never seen a TV show better than a comic. Christ, now I'm just jerkin BKV's dick for him. I love the guy. What can I do? Alright, I gotta get outta here before I really go crazy... Thanks for the props. It's nice to know that Walking Dead hasn't come out in forever. I thought my store stopped getting it. There Will be Blood was weird. Paul Dano was weird. What was also weird were the surprising amount of 4-year olds watching it. They ended up leaving like exactly one minute before the movie's end. I guess it really took them three hours to figure out that not only was it not in 3D, but that Hannah Montana is not an old bastard motherfucker with an oily moustache. Somebody threw a snowball at me when I was buying Batman last night. I wanted to shout something clever at them, but my mouth is still weak from getting my wisdom teeth pulled. Still, I had my copy of Y-The Last Man and had just seen There Will be Blood, so I was happy.

I had all of mine pulled about five years ago. Not too fun. It's like you're Brando for a couple weeks afterwards with all the cotton balls and what not.

I loved There Will Be Blood. It was actually the first movie I've seen in our local town theater where I haven't had to tell someone to shut up, which was nice, but also sort of depressing because I live amongst morons for the majority. Heh, I can't imagine leaving a minute before the movie ends!

So, about this snowball. Was it thrown at you as you were leaving the shop or in the shop? Either way, you should have thrown a bloody cotton ball from your mouth at them.
Well for future reference then...

Next time I ever get some stuff pulled out of my mouth, I'll be sure to leave some bloody cotton balls lying around. But I was outdoors. If it was an indoor incident, somebody's face would've gotten knocked in for sure...

About the movies, yeah, There Will be Blood was a surprisingly chill experience as opposed to what I've been through recently, especially considering the surprising amount of people in the theater. It's great to know that there's still an audience out there for good stuff like this. Maybe they actually got one of my angry letters I sent last year after Grindhouse never came out... If they can keep their shit up, (Juno and No County came to the theater, which I did not expect to happen.) I might just lift my boycott. I aint paid for a movie for a long ass time, except Beowulf, which I needed 3D glasses for and was pretty ridiculous in my opinion. I enjoyed it, but I want to get my money's worth out of those specs. DO I sneak into Brendan Frasier's Journey to the Center of the Earth? Hell yeah. Anyway, back to my wacky movie going experiences. My personal favorite was No Country For Old Men. It was really cold. I kept my coat and hat on. There were only about ten people in the theater, so two of them decided to sit really close to me and the Body brothers. This couple were both wearing very noisy coats, and had a few blankets with them, which was understandable. But the man was trying really hard to show off to the rest of the theater what a great guy he was, so he went to get his girl a drink, and when he returned he feux-whispered "I brought you a beverage." Yeah, we were right in front of them, but I'm pretty sure the rest of the audience heard him too, because everyone started chuckling. It was awkward. The Body brothers and I stayed through about half the credits in true film nerd style and when we left, it looked like the couple wasn't going to make a move. They also were kind enough to bring their chihuahua along with them. I don't know what was up with that and I didn't want to ask because I think they might have heard me refer to them as "base-heads."
