Great series that definatley pays homage to James Bond as well as the classic spy series there's even hint of Gerry Anderson's designs as well. (citing the finale eps.)

It's not just fan service and action that drives this series, but the stories are well written especially the mutant children subplot and not to mention 009-1's origin which ties into a surprise revelation in the final episode. Well worth my dollar$ and the theme song is catchy for J-pop.

Gotta wonder what goes on in that man's mind... "Hrm, I think I'll go write a manga about how a freak Foghorn Leghorn mutant destroys the world...then I'll go on TV and sing! Yup, sounds like a day."
Surely we're further along with Eden than that??

It's been ages since I read it, but I remember that volume last year sometime. Has nothing else been released since, or was I reading some direct Japanese translated edition?

is tops. Very cool, but what is going on at ADV? If I'm at a show and see a region 3 collection, I might dash the US industry against the rocks a little more. I can never forgive that company for the way they dropped "Ray"
oh, and ADV...

it seems to me that back in the 8o's, when small publishers with a lot more to lose were attempting to break manga into North America as 28 page floppies, amidst the glut of independent B/W comics, they understood the commitment necessary for building their "brands." For example, why would I, or anyone, ever know the ending to "Xenon"? Even a book like "Akira," where Otomo essentially killed its readership, was allowed to see completion. Twenty years ago all you could do was send Bud Plant $40 for a vhs title (or else scrounge for boots,) but now it's the 21st century. Fans know they are taking a chance dropping $80 on a handful of episodes, with the looming possibility that they'll never see the how the story resolves. The industry is hurting because it's overpriced and doesn't follow through. Grrrrr!

Scott, your commitment to this column is evident, and your content thoughtful. But I have to be honest when I say it's really freaking hard to grasp the point you're trying to make with most of your subjects. IMO, I think it would help if you started or ended each review with a summary of your thoughts on the piece, then delve into your analysis. I'd rather get to what you think about something, then dissect the minutiae of what you have to say. Sometimes, I don't have the time to give you my full attention, and even when I do, I find myself giving up before you get your point across. On Hikaru's point I have to agree - it's difficult for fans to commit to buying a series if they aren't sure they'll get the whole thing. Many of us wait for series to complete before laying our money down, and as a result end up being part of the problem. I don't pretend to know the full business model involved, but no one can blame a company for discontinuing a failing product. If anything, these companies should consider a more appealing price point for their target audience, which in general cannot afford to be shelling out $29.95 for three lousy episodes of anything.

Volume 9 was released in Nov '07. 10 isn't scheduled until May 07, 2008. I you have any interest in the series, buy it, because it isn't exactly selling gangbusters and Dark Horse has really has to juggle to make releasing it feasible.

That's insane, and utterly aggravating. How on earth do comics like this get so lost? Christ, is it on pre-order anywhere?

I'd rather they not release the series than put out the garbage release that it was starting to look like.
