But expecting SciFi Suits to do ANYthing intelligent is not recommended. They don't know quality, don't know what to with it when they stumble across it. BSG aside, PKJ had a decent pilot and a great casting of Jane--so they go from pilot to a series that not only replaces everyone, but utterly ignores the premise and backstory of the pilot.

b) gargoyles

c) cloning

d) mutation

e) guns

All Stern said was that NBC called. There's about twenty steps that have to be moved through before RDM is called. The writers' strike needs to be finished before the pilot can get polished and shot, so I see no reason they'd bother talking to a PICKETING WRITER this early. Give it time.

Yeah, unless I'm missing something here, I agree. Why would they call the show runner while he's on strike? I guess he could produce it with Eick as long as they don't change anything in the script, but...

I dunno. Then again, the whole idea of shooting Caprica with the script on the shelf and without Moore sounds unviable.
Caprica as a Mini-Series 1st
by Oceanlizard
Jan 26th, 2008
03:26:42 PM
Many fans crapped all over Moore's BSG before it came out, and look at it now. He won over a lot of fans. But to convince fans he went the mini-series route first. If SciFi keeps playing it cheap, we could get a look at Caprica as a mini-series and see if we like it. It we don't, then SciFi saved a lot of money and had a filler show; if we like it, wait a year and a half and the series may come out long after the writers strike ends. It's a win-win for both the SciFi channel and the Viewers.
Again, it is not going to happen

Like I said in the last thread... The reasons why they passed on it still exist regardless of the writer's strike or not. Those same reasons are why they will pass on it again. Sci Fi also likes to cock tease it's fans, marketing is likely saying don't let people forget about BSG before the next episode airs in like two fucking years. So they will release tidbits like this for a while.

podosphere, the idea that Ron Moore would re-imagine the A-Team with an all-female cast plays upon the fact the he changed BSG's Boomer and Starbuck from male to female. Dirk Bennedict played Starbuck in BSG and Face on the A-Team, so I guess this would give Katee Sackhoff a possible role.

The smart move is to stop moving the start of season 4 deep into the 22nd century for goodness sake. If the first few episodes do very well, SciFi should reverse the planned ending (i.e. write new shows to end the season)and give BSG a full season five which explores the mythological and societal impact of finding Earth instead of launching Caprica.

BSG, while not a huge ratings winner, has a fiercely loyal cult fanbase rivaling Buffy's, and Caprica, being land-based, could be cheaper to produce than BSG. Not to mention BSG has earned the strongest critical response of any show in SciFi Channel's history.

How to make a Sci Fi channel TV movie
by SpyGuy
Jan 27th, 2008

STEP 1: Take one word from the following list...

NIGHT, DARK, DEATH, KILLER, FIRE, MAN

STEP 2: Take another word from the following list...

SPIDER, ALLIGATOR, LIZARD, DRAGON, WOLF, BAT, ROACH, MOSQUITO, BEAR, WASP, SCORPION

STEP 3: Mash the two words together somehow. For example...

DARK SPIDER, KILLER BAT, FIRE WASP, DEATH SCORPION, etc.

STEP 4: Write a 2-hour script around Step 3, cast it, and film it all within the span of one week.

STEP 5: Air it on Sci Fi and wait for the standard 2.0 rating from idiots that actually watch these shitty movies.

STEP 6: Rinse and repeat as needed.

I know there is a writers' strike still , but this one has been bugging me for a long while. I absolutely love BSG.Like alot of talk backers, I was going around begging people to watch the miniseries back when it first came out, just because I knew people would like it if they gave it a chance. And now the more I watch it, the more I keep thinking... something is missing. All of the new story arcs, all of the new plots... there just aren't many great ones anymore. POssibly I am just suffering from a bad memory, since we only get to watch 2 episodes every leapyear or whatever the schedule is now, but what happened? Anyone know, was there a big writing shift to a different group? It just doesn't seem as clever anymore. I almost feel like it was a cop-out to make so many people cylons. it's becoming kind of like "lost" now. FOr all the years I yeared for multidiensional characters, I find myself trying to stuff some of these characters back into their archetype just so we can have some good solid war episodes or something. *sigh*

For starters, LOST was freaking awesome. Second, with the sole exception of a few episodes in the middle, BSG S3 was great... the New Caprica arc and the final stretch leading up to Crossroads was fan-bloosy-tastic. Is something missing? YES. Most shows are missing the quality writing that DOES exist in A grade shows like LOST, BSG, Damages, Wire, and Dexter.

Ashok0... Lost just too random for me
by MurderMostFowl

What I don't like about Lost is, funny enough, is one thing I like about about BSG. With Lost after S2 even, I felt the writers seem to pretend they have a larger story arc, but I never really believed it. But maybe I should cut them some slack since it's obvious they never thought they would be on for so long. Perhaps not knowing if the show was going to get renewed turned out to be BSG's strength, and turned out amazing stories, and story arcs. I don't feel one second of BSG is "unimportant", or "flavor" ( well except for the entire Razor movie... I thought I would love it and I left not caring whether I had seen it or not, except for the old school toasters. )

Did you watch LOST S3? Every single post-hiatus episode minus the tattoo episode was great (Alright, I even loved Expose). And c'mon, the whole Locke/Cooper/Saywer arc was definitely thought up in advance, the cables under the beach were there since Season 1, and the Jack/Claire stuff was foreshadowed 1 year ahead of time in "Two for the Road". Oh yeah, LOST S1 focuses on a pregnant woman, S2 focuses on a father searching for his child who is missing, and S3 focuses on 2 pregnant women and a fertility doctor. And Desmond's girlfriend is searching for the island, and her father works for a science/medical company called Widmore which makes pregnancy supplies. Every single plot arc from the past 3 seasons is tightly focused around children. The puzzle pieces are shifting into position, my friend... 4 8 15 16 23 42

We can follow John as he solders together the Farscape module during the day and kicks back with a beer at night. No? Not a good idea? Then why would anyone think Caprica would be a good idea? What's up with Hollywood always trying to crawl back into the womb anyway? They think they're being safe by always recycling old ideas (remakes, sequels and prequels) and then blame TiVos and piracy when people stop watching out of boredom.
