I won't mind another Punch Drunk Love type movie, something a little lighter. Would love to see PTA make his Annie Hall or Manhattan. Still, the idea of him taking on horror does excite...

"There will be blood" felt like it tried to be Kubrick, and kinda succeeded. Atleast it had the look, the characters and obviously the sound. I don't know if that's good or bad though..

it had Kubrick's "immersive detachment".. he created a completely realistic, believable world and then sat back and let us watch selected moments in that world that we could feel would lead to tragedy. The way the camera moved, perhaps it was visually like a Kubrick film, but the fact that it was shot in scope (right?) sort of puts a wrench in the gears of the Kubrickian opinion. Wasn't the last film Kubrick shot in widescreen aspect Barry Lyndon?
That's it.. I'm going to see TWBB again.

Kubrick never made a scope pic. Barry L was straight 35mm. 2001 was 70mm,it was big...but not anamorphic. He was a photographer, and he framed like a photographer.

That movie scared the shit out of me. I would like to see it done proper, though as a lot of the dialogue was stilted plus the actors didn't always come off as serious to me. Maybe Anderson or Darabont could do it even better than the made for TV film. Tim Curry was the man as Pennywise.

PT Anderson and Stanley Kubrick: The Good and the Bad
by OGREISHERE

It would seem to me that meeting Kubrick on the set of Eyes Wide Shut had a major impact on PTA. Do not get me wrong that is awesome as SK is my all time without a doubt #1 artist of all time. Starting with Punch Drunk Love and especially with There Will Be Blood, PT's movies have taken on a Kubrickian feel. In fact if I didn’t know any better I would say that TWBB was a Kubrick film. Who else but the man would have ended a movie on that note? That being said I hate how PT Anderson has said to himself if Stanley could make a movie once every ice age, so can I.

a director that takes his time between projects, suddenly does something huge, and then starts something else pretty quickly, but I guess we'll have to wait. This would have been cool, but I'd love it even more if Lynch directed a horror film, that was intentionally a horror film.

"Dry as a Bone" is a project set in the Australian wilderness. Its been floating around the industry for some time now. The title refers to the Long sheepskin coats that the jackaroos wear through the rough weather months. Should be a great film.

TWBB WAS a horror movie... something a brain-dead site like 'Bloody Disgusting' could never possibly understand. My girlfriend couldn't understand either - more specifically, she couldn't understand what I was so pumped about after the movie... she thought it was slow, deliberate, inconclusive, and a tad on the boring side. I respectfully disagreed. Only by skimming the surface and using a movie such as 'No Country' (which was more obviously violent/horrific/etc) or - to a lesser extent - 'Cloverfield' as a reference point could you make an assertion like that. TWBB was every bit of thrilling and terrifying as NC, but it was based primarily in the psychological plane. Despite the obvious foreshadowing of the film's title. Right on PTA. Take a break.

...for us lowlifes who waited for the wide theatrical release of PTA's latest psuedo-opus? Anyway, I have to disagree with 999 of 1000 US critics who loved this movie, as I...disliked it. Never before have I seen such an attempt/try to make a film so full of hatred as I just saw in TWBB. The usual PTA contrivances dating back to Boogie Nights were there. Violence was dropped in without really being part of any organic whole to the film, I'm not buying that Plainview is simply a violent man and thus it should be expected. And what was with the laughs every five minutes from the audience I was with? Was I watching a comedy or a drama? Personally, I was yawning the whole time... Was not showing any substantial blood until the end of the film, thus the said title, supposed to be clever? And it seems PTA, who does have talent, has confirmed himself more than ever in my book that he is right now the greatest filmmaker masquerading as a great filmmaker, maybe, ever. The fact that he has so bowled over 99.9999% of the critics, the Academy, and everyone on this site is confirmation for me. I guess no one but me and a select few others with eyes for seeing see through the over-the-top acting of DDL, the violence and humor, the Radiohead score, the tired oil/blood metaphors, and the pretty photography as a cover-up for an otherwise soulless film...
I thought PTA made "Oh Yes, There Will Be Blood"!

Is the ttitle of the next movie from Paul Thomas Anderson, in collaboration with Uwe Boll and Rob Zombie. Basically, the premise is this: three really shit directors take it in turns to stick their heads in a blender while a topless Sherri Moon hits the 'puree' switch. It only lasts five minutes, but I for one would pay a fucking fortune to watch it over and over again...

PTA is THE most WILDLY overrated filmmaker I've seen. It's almost funny how the fanboys unzip and jack off at the mention of his name. He imitates Scorsese, Altman, Kubrick, but somehow escapes being raked over the coals . Boogie Nights was 100% Scosese rip-off, Magnolina...Jebus I couldnt even finish wathcing that piece of self indlugent shit. Punch Drunk Love had Adam Sandler so cross that one off...and now people are raving over that dumb ass milkshake line in TWBB...SNOOZE...

I'll name five "known" American directors from the last 10 years: Charles Burnett, Todd Haynes, Harmony Korine, Terry Zwygoff, and Michael Almereyda. I'd name more but we don't want to cause you any pain to your brain here. So as you're scratching your head saying "Who Dat?" with regard to the truly great filmmakers I just mentioned, maybe some truth will actually leach into that thick scalp of yours...
