But he wasn't the director of City of Men. You could've used The Constant Gardener instead.

Jack Ryan films are fun and all but Meirelles is an artist. Let him continue to do Brazillian films or if he does need to come to Hollywood, let him do something LIKE (I know it's too late) The Road.

I would love to see that movie made. That movie would make a hella good tie into Executive Decisions. Ben Affleck did a fine job with Sum of All Fears too.

I second that. I hate the current director. Cutting so much from the books. What a hack he is. I mean, at least film the extra scenes and release a la Jackson Lord of the Rings uber cuts. Thanks, WB, thanks alot.

I can't believe you like SOALF better than PATRIOT GAMES!

I think PATRIOT GAMES is the best Ryan film. It also stars Boromir, Jules Winnfield, Darth Vader, Indiana Jones, Dumbledore and Frank Gallagher (UK tv character).

1. Changing the villians away from Islamic Terrorists. AND 2. HUGE PLOT HOLE: The Secret Service sweeps any building the President is going to enter with radiation and neutron detectors long before the President arrives, and they would have detected the bomb quite easily. There are bomb sniffing dogs deployed by both local law enforcement and USSS that would have detected the high explosives package in the nuke, alerting to it's presence, and there is NO WAY that vending machine would have been allowed to be placed in that stadium without being inspected inside and out first. Not to mention the fact that the Presidential Motorcade gets into a rural area outside Baltimore in less than five minutes....
As you can tell, I'm a Clancy Fan....so:

The only "great" Jack Ryan film so far has been "Red October". I would rate the remaing pictures this way 1.SOAF (despite it's flaws) 2. Clear and Present Danger 3. Patriot Games....The only movie that has even come CLOSE to doing the source book justice was "Red October".

i might be a little biased because i'm brazilian, but fernando meirelles is one of the most original visions in cinema today...i cant wait to see BLINDNESS...hehe see blindness, anyway, he did not direct CITY OF MEN, his production company in Brasil, produced the series (there were 5 seasons) and the movie, which, by the by, is fooking awesome.

Why would a thoughtful actor and a socially relevant director make a piece of reactionary shit from Clancy? Don't they have better things to do? Is Fred Thompson going to be in this?
I heard Gosling is willing to do it; but...

Harrison Ford's rendition was too crochety, and Affleck's was all about his hair. Alec Baldwin had a probing intelligence in the role, you could see him think his way through a situation rather than just whipping out a gun. It's a shame he ever bowed out of the series. He's too old and fat now.
Let me guess... You liked Patriot Games because

you're Irish! It was okay but not the best. The Hunt for Red October was the best then Clear and Present Danger. Then it's a toss-up between Patriot Games and Sum of All Fears.

I agree about Baldwin. I love "Red October". Everyone, in front and behind the camera, was on top of thier game. Alec Baldwin didn't really leave on his own, he was asked to step down so Harrison could take over. The things Alec said in interviews about wanting to do different things was a cover up. There was some sneaky studio politics behind that.
Now that's a cool choice, akin to hiring PG for Bourne

Finally the suits are switching on to getting 'real' talent to direct these types of thrillers. Will be interesting to see how this develops.

to know that Paramount is not half-assing this one like they did Sum of All Fears and actually going with a bold directorial choice. Dunno much about Ryan Gosling but I trust Meirelles! Good on ya Paramount! HOpe he signs!

Then again, most of the left-coast interpretations of Clancy (especially Sum of All Fears) completely freakin' ignore the books. A modern-day, multi-national neo-nazi group with WMD's?!? Not.Fucking.Likely- WTF was that?

Then you must love all the bad books. You didn't know that his best books were ghost witten? Yeah, when Clncy started to get popular he dicided to write the later books himself which were all bad.
