Yes, Moriarty, you're right about the whole "CPO" thing. I too, have the 3rd draft (wasn't sure if it was the same as yours). I've got a question though. What about Maul's death scene. I know all that about him getting cut in half, but what is it like in the final draft? Also, has Lucas left the ending intact? ie. (Qui-Gon's Funeral, and Anakin's transformation into a Jedi Apprentice)? Also....... I'M STILL LOOKING FOR MP3S OF THE SOUNDTRACK!!!! I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET IT ON TUESDAY!!! I'LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEK, SO PLEASE HELP ME OUT HERE!!!
So then...

We now know everything we could possibly know about this movie. Every single scene, character, plot twist. All the "spying" has, in the end, ruined the film. Think about it. A previous poster just detailed Maul's death scene. That's the **FINALE**!!! I'd say we now know more about the ins and outs of this film than the average punter will know after seeing it. There are no surprises left from this movie now. And without surprises, the sense of awe - Star Wars' raison d'etre - is severely reduced. Harry, Father Geek et al...I'm a big fan of this site, feel it's the best thing to happen to movie geeks around the world. But please, please, leave Episode 1 alone now until it comes out. I want at least a little of the wonder to remain. I don't want to sit in the cinema watching this movie for the first time, and pointing out bits thinking "oh, that's the bit Moriarty/Robogeek/Harry said would be great. OK, I'll stop rambling. Just thought I should say that...
BOOK REVIEW - I'M FIRST!!!!!!

Great book review! Indeed there were some spoilers within but for many of us that have been bouncing around from site to site in search of episode one news alot of this was old news already. I loved the insight provided by the reviewer while comparing the various script drafts and the final published novelizations. I would have loved to see the bit about the "3" in C3PO show up in the film. Having read the middle episode's novelizations and with the exception of Lucas' penned version of Star Wars, they all were not that good. not much insight or depth was added and came off as rather 2 dimensional copy jobs of what was on the screen. I am so psyched that Brooks has added more of a back story to the EP1 novelization. Can't wait to read them. Fans, this is the moment we've been waiting for for many years now. SW1 is upon us. Rejoice in the anticipation of how near it is! I for one am taking cover becasue at this point I don't want to find out anymore spoiler info. At this point I know enough about the movie to have a feel as to what it is going to be about. If I find out anymore the experience is going to be trully spoiled for me. Now with the movie due in a couple of weeks, I am really happy I never found the script on the web and I am really happy that Harry never posted it. The movie will be that much more special to me. By the way I was one of the dudes that met Harry for drinks in Chicago; Harry is a great guy and he is really passionate about what he does and for him to have met some of his fans for drinks like he did shows how cool he is. He really is one of us, people. Best of luck, Harry. -Marco

auggie's band

I am really disappointed with what I've heard of the soundtrack so far (DotF and auggie's band). Sure I'm open minded and don't mind changes, but that's only when the change isn't from good to bad. I sure hope the rest of the soundtrack is better. Anyway, I guess I have to explain what it is that pisses me off about these two tracks. Duel of the Fates is not extremely bad, but it isn't in the same ballpark as the music from the original trilogy. I expected it to be different, but I didn't expect it to be the boring crap that it is. John William overdoses on the vocal music a little too much this time. He repeats the same theme over and over and over and over....(you get the point). It is pleasant to listen to a couple of times, but to me it's not worthy of the Official Star Wars Junkie Seal of Approval. And for Auggie's Municipal Band? It brought images to my mind of dancing Ewok children. It's hard to believe it came from the same guy who wrote Cantina Band. And I don't want to hear any crap about waiting for the movie before I diss the music. Music is music. I don't need to see a movie with the music in it before I judge the music. It should be able to stand on it's own. I can only hope that the rest of the soundtrack is much better than these two tracks. Keep in mind these are only my opinions and if they offend you, I can't say that I look forward to hearing back from you.
Are you joking????????????

I have "Duel of the Fates" and "Augie's Great Municpal Band" too! Man, I don't know, but I think you might be joking.... When I heard DOTF, I was literally blown out of my seat about 100 feet. GODDAMN, THAT IS THE SINGLE GREATEST PIECE OF STAR WARS MUSIC THUS FAR!!!!!!!!!!! I have the original trilogy soundtracks, and sure I like them, but DOTF blows away EVERYTHING from the original trilogy by about a mile!!! And as for "Augie's band", can you ask for a more uplifting piece of music?????? THIS BLOWS AWAY THE NEW ROTJ CELEBRATION MUSIC!!!! Plus, the old ROTJ Ewok celebration music made me want to throw up. That crap was shit on a stick. The new ROTJ ending music was AN INCREDIBLE IMPROVEMENT!!! But "AUGIE'S" IS EVEN BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!! I THINK THE TPM SOUNDTRACK WILL BE THE BEST YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jar Jar kicks ass

Why is everybody dissing Jar Jar like that? I've always thought that Jar Jar kicks ass. He sure as hell seems cool in everything I've seen him in. You guys hear him say like one line, and you go "Aw, fuck it. This guy's annoying!" What the hell?! You haven't even seen the movie yet! But the bad thing is, that even Jar Jar does kick ass, you guys are gonna come out of the theater saying "Jar Jar ruined it." anyway. You've already counted Jar Jar out, so there's no way he's gonna make it for you. Just let go, Luke. You must unlearn what you have learned. Just forget about all your pre-concieved notions. Personally, I think Jar Jar will kick the shit out of Chewie. What the hell did Chewie ever do? He growled and howled every now and then. I don't hate Chewie, but at least Jar Jar talks! And with Obi-Wan's snobby attitude, we have to have some comic relief anyway. Jar Jar provides enough silliness (combined with Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon humor) to round out this Star Wars movie. And I think that Jar Jar looks cool, anyway.

You searched for an hour? I found it in about 5 minutes on the alt.binaries.star-wars. (Or I found a link to an ftp) I am currently d/l-ing the entire shmnecking soundtrack. I like it like it like it. 19 years ago, I got TESB soundtrack a month before the national release, and still had to wait another month before it came here in 35 mm. I listened to that thing until the grooves wore out. And guess what!? It still didn't ruin the movie for me. I was distracted when certain tracks I thought were going to be used for certain scenes were not used (vid:"Hyperspace" replaces the original track intended for the introduction of the snow speeders) But what the hell, it's great to be somewhat of an insider, to get the scoop before others. You can find the soundtrack here. http://rioxs.dhs.org/starwars/ I downloaded them somewhere else, so I cannot assure you that the downloads will be quick and easy, but they're all there. Now please be quiet and stop filling up this board with annoying requests and other nonsense, quentin2. Also, nobody is impressed with your vast knowledge of Episode I spoilers. I could have read any of those from any respectable website. Now if only my damn copy of the illustrated screenplay would have shown up today. (ordered at www.booksamillion.com) I wouldn't be here wasting my time my dumb shit like this.

I managed to get the Phantom Menace Illustrated Screenplay a couple of weeks ago. Actually, I was a little disappointed. I guess I should have know it wouldn't have had top-quality artwork (like that Art of book) but I was expecting more from an ILLLUSTRATED screenplay than storyboard sketches. It's been torture getting the damn thing early as well. When I pre-ordered it from Amazon.com, I thought it would come out around the same time as the movie. But nooooo, I have to get it a month early. I've tried to resist reading it, but a peek here and a peek there have added up to over half the script. It does look like it will top Empire Strikes Back, though.

I was able to pick up my copy (With Anakin on the front cover) at a Terminal Bookstore in Cincinatti last Wednesday. I pondered the power before me for all of 2 seconds before I bought the book and read it on my flight. I can't wait to see the visualization of what I just read.

Yes!!! That's just it. Reading the story doesn't have to spoil the film. If you've got any imagination at all, it just whets your appetite for actually SEEING it in front of you. You go, Dharma! And, for the record, Terry Brooks is a good author. The "Sword of Shannara" books were a fun read. Lucas could have done a lot worse. - Dawn

Im sorry Glen, I haven't listened to the entire soundtrack and I am already spellbounded, tearful, and just in a basic coma! Augies Great Municipal Band is just great, it is no Victory Celebration from Return of the Jedi, but its a great well I won't make this a spoiler filled coumn but it is just great. Anakins Theme is great, Glen is right it isnt easy to hum, but the way he incorporates the imperial march in, is just that extra oomph, which Glenn states is missing. He is right about one thing though The Sith Spacecraft is phenomenal. It is so far a great soundtrack, and it definately has that special "Star Wars" touch which makes Williams the greatest movie scorer of all time. Thanks Mr. Williams, once again!

Hey, dude. the kid has blue eyes and blonde hair because the OLD ANAKIN had blue eyes and LUKE SKYWALKER is his SON so they LOOK ALIKE. Get over it. Also, the black and red stripes of Darth Maul's skin speak to our subconscious FEAR of things black like spiders and stuff. It's the color nature uses for danger and night. Think of a black widow spider or a coral snake. Anyway, stormtroopers were WHITE. Lucas said he made the Empire nearly monochromatic to symbolize their suppression of independent thought or something. And remember, Jedi Luke wore ALL BLACK in ROTJ. So get over yourself and your hypersensitivity to non-existent racism. You'd do well to fight ACTUAL racism instead. Or are you one of those people who feels discriminated against every time someone looks at you funny?

The days leading up to May 19 are going to be interesting. Everthing seems to be coming out Tuesday (script, novel, soundtrack, and toys), but I don't want to know every word of dialogue or every piece of eye candy on the screen. We have waited 16 years for this day. I love Star Wars and I want to feel the goosebumps opening day when the lights go down, and be in total suprise like Christmas morning. True, to go in fresh you will need to live in a cave until the 19th. The media will tell us everything trying to up the other by getting the breaking story. Scenes will be painted on Pepsi cans, t shirs, bumper stickers, and everything in between. I love getting the insight on upcoming films and this is my favorite site, but Episode I is special and the exception. I hope the extention cord reaches into the cave. :)

Lucas has been doing this intellectualistic symbolism bullshit ever since THX:1138. When it came out and bombed he said everybody was just too stupid to get it when in fact HE doesn't even understand what he was doing with that film. Lucas is not a great writer or director but he seems like a nice, smart guy and his films are fun, so I forgive him. I wish he'd stop doing it though and listen to his wife once in a while. She seems to understand the audience more than he does. And to respond to Ken Shabby's message, I do understand what Lucas is doing I just don't like it.

I walked into a walden books today just to kill some time while I waited for some glasses to be made...and what do I find...The Illustrated Screenplay. Whoa! And what else..an 8 cd unabridged reading of the novelization. KICK ASS! The dilemma. Do I ruin the movie by buying these? Or do I wait. "Patience Luke." Aw the hell with that.
