As always, Capone, nice work. This has definitely peaked my interest in the film. The actress who plays the lead sounds quite brave for taking on the role. And that's quite hilarious about the MPAA embracing the cautionary nature of the movie. You gotta love that.

I dragged two other people to see this - so Lichtenstein can thank me for our $$$ - but I was really really really disappointed. This film was shot poorly. The sound was bad. The script was not good in terms of story, following an arc, etc. The timing, tone and logic that make a film like this watchable were so off I was sweating with embarrassment that I'd brought these two other friends. Does this movie have anything to do with the Image comic series of a few years back? I never read it but allways assumed it was about vampires. If this is the same thng i need to get some back issues!

beautiful filming in austin, kick ass, emotive, idiosyncratic work by the lead actress...it felt like a middle ground between daniel waters, john hughes, and the impending, carnal delight of JAWS. the whole austin premiere was a shit ton of fun.

and I find it a bit insulting and cowardly that he's afraid to show the vagina. I'm pretty sure we'll see plenty of gnawed off dicks, but not the object of heterosexual fear. I don't see showing the monstrous pussy as being at all exploitative to the main character in theory, and when dealing with straight sexuality and fears (something I'm assuming a gay filmmaker would not be as familiar with) its a pretty shitty creative choice, and shows a lack of empathy for straight men. I haven't seen the movie, but he comes off as wanting to explore femininity as a monstrous thing and straight teenage sex as something to be punished. The lack of AICN touching on this aspect of the filmmaker is not surprising. I'm not impressed.

NOT surprised a "cautionary tale" about underage sex leading to castration gets an R rating. The vagina dentata myth is a ripe one for sure, but also one that has roots in demeaning women's sexuality to something to be feared, and its an unhealthy myth that seems outdated. Then again, the right wingers out there need their horror movies too. I suppose I should see the movie first, but AICN has always had an infantile attitude towards sex, and this movie seems to pander to that.
