assessment. I don't love the guy in every role, it depends on the movie. But when I see how he was in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, then see the difference betweeen that character and Jack Sparrow, I don't see gimmicks, but an actor who is able to shift into very different and diverse roles.

I would have to say there are a lot of kids out there who don't pay attention to nationality. And to them, the illusion is important. Sometimes the whole nationality thing throws you off and them you find yourself distracted because all you're thinking about is, "Damn, that's a great accent." That's exactly what happened to me watching Battlestar Galactica. Hell, I had no idea Jaimie Bamber (apologies for the spelling) was a bloke until I saw him in an interview. I think Mr. Bale's one of the rare type of actor's who is actually committed developing and maintaining characters. Personally, I find his dedication refreshing.

For anyone thinking Depp relies on gimmicks and bullshit just watch that movie. He goes toe to toe with Pacino. Miami Vice was a work of art plain and simple. Michael Mann is a top 3 director, he is this generation's Stanley Kubrick. Bale is good, lots of promise but best actor of this Generation is hyperbole. Regardless this movie will be the shit.

I still say Equilibrium was by far his best. Such an underrated movie! Not to say that he wont OWN the Connor role in every way that Edward Furlong's whiney ass couldn't, and oh yeah...that unmentionable Nick somebody. Bale has truly proven himself as as actor. His metamorphosis between shooting The Machinist and Batman Begins was just INSANE!!!

and more than looks too. Have you seen Before Night Falls? The man is a chameleon, an actor's actor. Sure he can be theatrical and gimmicky, but he excels at it, and at subtleties also. Maybe he hasn't gone to the extremes of starving himself and speed-beefing up like Bale but he is just about as versatile. Having said that i think of the two of them Bale would be a better fit for Shantaram. A movie that needs to be made.

I mean, what the hell can be next for this guy? Yeah but if you think about it, Diggs charachter was kind of a plant by Angus Macfadyen's charachter Dupont to kind of keep an eye on Preston, and if you remember when all was revealed, Dupont was all about art and emotion (on the down low though)while still keeping his grip on the society. I always felt like Diggs character was not completely devoid of emotion because he was in cahoots with Dupont,...hence his smiling. Shouldn't have been so obvious though. That did irritate me as well. Just my thoughts on this....

Since Bale-Luke can't take claim of his dead mother, have him redirect his passions on his sister. Kill off Han early on--he was a schmuck in ROTJ anyway--leaving a desperate Leia to tether herself to her brother as they set off to murder Vader. Here's the last shot of the film: Bale-Luke and knocked-up Leia casting their yellow Sith eyes on the corpses of Vader and Palpatine, as Yoda and Obi-Wan cry tears of blood in the background. Credit roll. It's the sort of SW flick that would only do well in France and South Korea. I leave the title up to you.

...the biography of Melvin Purvis by his son, Alston? If it is, it's a fascinating read. Melvin was the most famous G-Man from 1933 onwards for years due to his involvement in the capture/assassinations of Dillinger and Pretty Boy Floyd. J Edgar Hoover's insane need for praise started a lifelong effort to destroy Purvis' career which led him to suicide. With Depp & Bale involved, it sounds like a hell of a film but they're totally miscast. Purvis was a slight man, intense intelligent with high moral code due to his southern Georgia upbringing. Bale's too tall. It'd be perfect for Depp. And Bale should be Dillinger, a tall charismatic, athletic guy.

explanation. Good call. Glad you're converted stuntcock, but you must have not been in any Bale talkbacks in the past few months. Ususually someone (me or otherwise) brings up Equilibrium. Go to you tube and search equilibrium and dragula together for a killer video composition.
Okay I hereby propose the followng resolution:

All those who have never seen Equilibrium from this point forward shall no longer be considered true Christian Bale fans. They may redeem themselves by watching the movie, then submitting a report on its greatness. All in favor say "Aye."

Johnny Depp. For me the female equivalent is Julia Roberts. I either love the movie or hate it, but both of them as individuals, they are not actors that for me make a movie a must see unlike say Samuel L. Jackson or old school Clint Eastwood.
Yeah, what's up with all the Miami Vice hate?

between this movie and The Untouchables. Connery, DeNiro, Costner, Garcia, that movie was incredible. "You got him?" "Yeah" Capone thug gets dropped like a bad habit from one of the most awkward firing stances in cinema history.

Anyone who says it sucks hasn't seen it. I would say it's better than the Matrix in terms of the fighting because it's all done practical. No lame ass wire-fu here. Oh yeah and you think at the start Bale's gonna be an emotionless, wooden character. But then he does a total 180 and kicks you in the balls with the subtleties of his acting range. That first image of Preston hearing Beethoven might be the Bale's single greatest scene and shows why he is one of the best, if not the best actor of his generation. Excuse me, I gotta go watch it again.
And if they offered Gun Kata as a real martial art....

I would fucking be the first in line to learn. The theory behind it and how it's put in practice could actually be used in real life.
That's the thing Han, it was the subtleness

of the slow emergence that made the character great. Problem is many on this site would overlooked that as their attention span has been Bayified, and they would only watch for the gun kata which as has been mentioned already an original and incredible concept. As much as Bale owns I want to see him to a drama in the near future because I know he could surely deliver. It was also great when he sees the rain unfiltered for the first time. Someone else commented that Matrix Revolutions stole that seen when Trinity sees the sun for the first time. Hard to argue that.
I think I've got Prestige figured out.

Tesla's magical cloning machine was all bullshit, just a big bluff they kept volleying between the two of them. It was all doubles. Bale was always a twin, and was inspired by the Chinese magician to bring his brother in on the act. Jackman just continued to use the look-a-like for his final "Real Transported Man" and then screwed him over by killing him when he knew Bale would investigate.

Tesla did in fact create a machine for Bale's character to use in his show but it did absolutely nothing. His trick was that he used his brother. Jackman's character, not knowing this, went to Tesla, thinking that maybe he made a machine that instantaneously teleported Borden (Bale), thus making his trick better than him using Root as a double. Because as he said "No one cares about the man in the box." Jackman was the man in the box and Root got all the praise. Therefore, he had Tesla build the machine which didn't just teleport Danton (Jackman) but it created a mirror image of himself every time he used the machine. Tesla couldn't iron out the machine enough in time due to Thomas Edison's men burning down his laboratory so he sent the machine to Danton, bugs and all with the warning to destroy it. You can see at the end all the drowned clones in Danton's warehouse. Now the thing I don't understand is why Danton couldn't have figured out two is better than one, so he and his mirror image could perform the trick like Borden instead of killing the clone each time.
Actually, Danton should be replaced w/ Angier
by Han Cholo

I was thinking of Angier's stage name, The Great Danton.

Also, try this one. Cutter actually knew Borden was a twin the whole time, hence why he's not surprised to see him pick up his daughter at the end of the movie.

Okay you got me

We know the flick, we love the flick but it's time to move on... you're like 12 year old girls obsessed with Newsies. (Note: I must agree with the pre-pubes, there isn't anything hotter than Welsh jailbait with a lisp... Except maybe a one legged cowboy with low self-esteem). As to the present and the future, Bale can fill a screen with a presence like no one else. So I say, hand him that FBI badge and set him loose on Johnny. He'll show Depp what man with a real British accent can do.

RE Prestige: Danton could not share.
by CrichtonAstronut
Jan 14th, 2008
09:23:28 AM
Daton is addicted to the adoration of the crowd and he cannot stand to share that love. That was why the trick with the actor made-up as his double would never have worked. Not to mention it would freek anyone out to have another them appear out of nowhere looking at you and you after realizing you just want it to go away, realizing further it's probably thinking the same thing. Besides, if he tried the trick that way he'd have to make sure his clone or whatever stayed hidden and cooperative. The real hard work in Borden's trick was maintaining the illusion that he had no twin.
