I had forgotten they took Jack to Sawyer's cage.

I thought the question and answer session between Kate and Karl was interesting. Then Karl goes off on a tangent aboutno moon and making up names for the constelations. And Sawyer's response was, "Y'all have back yards?" Classic.

Isabel was a creepy sherrif. More at the cage than during interrogation.

You know I usually like Asian women, but Bai Ling does nothing for me.

Sawyer has a very interesting bedside manor. Walk up, roll your eyes and hit him. Call him Bobby to boot. And the scenes with him and Kate were spot on. You could see she "hated" him. And late in the episode when he has her face that is priceless.

I do love the scenes with Ben and Jack. Bedside manor. Cutting deals. And I can almost never tell when the bugged eyed SOB is lying. Juliet doesn't care about you Jack may come back to surprise us all.

He walks amongst us, but he is not one of us. That's what the tatoos say, but it's not what they mean. So what do you think they mean. In the context of this show that could mean mostly anything. It could be what Bai Ling said. It could be he's better than we are. Or maybe it means Jack's not who we think he is.

Not the best episode, but better than people said it was.

But regardless, it's quite a lot of fun. And almost never even requires a shovel. Most caches are hidden in a hollow tree, or under some bushes, etc. Most are on public property, too.

I like the way in your synopsis of 'stranger in a strange land' you didnt mention Jack's tat's once....is this the most tedious/useless flashback out of all of them...I think so

It was also creepy...or maybe startling, hearing he lost his wife during childbirth. Puts a whole new perspective on Ethan and his actions.

The other good point is your question. If a child is conceived off the island but comes to the island, everything seems to be okay. If conceived on the island and the mother stays, they both die. So what happens if Sun and/or Jin get off the island?

I think I said in a post on the old place that I thought there was something medical about the death in conjunction with smokie/the island. Let's say a fetus conceived on the island would be perceived as an invading organism. If the island heals wounds and perceives this as a wound, that would explain why they and their moms die.

So logically, you'd think Sun's child was in danger, but only in danger...not out of hope. Getting off the island may give it a chance.

So suppose Sun gets off. Maybe she lives, maybe not...but the child does...at least for a while.

Now think about Jack. All the work he did to get them rescued. Then more effort to make sure Sun got off the island so the child would have a chance. Then one day on a plane you read an obituary.

LOST

Wasn't there mention last year of Bai Ling saying that she was going to be in several episodes? Yet she didn't turn up again last season. Somehow I think we'll see her again in a future season. I didn't really care for her scenes in general, but she was easy on the eye, at the very least.

We sure got some crazy Jackface action when he confronts whatshername at the tattoo parlor! This is after his wife leaves him, yes?

Sawyer is top notch is this episode again, what with his interaction with Karl, singing that "Jaws" song (what I refer to it as), and not apologizing to Kate. Better than all-comic relief Sawyer, which we get tonight.

What did Cindy come to watch? The trial? The execution? How many days in Room 23 did she spend anyway?

Jack's still not sympathyzing with Juliet too much, but I think he'd hold her death on his consciounce (sp!), and if she stays alive, he has a better chance of escaping. But I still see him as being un-allied with her at this point.

Not a bad episode overall!

Actually, I don't like the idea of no one showing for the funeral. If someone is famous enough to get a story for their obituary, then someone somewhere, press or papperazzi, perhaps, will show up for the funeral.

I also remember Bai Ling saying more episodes than 1. I don't find her attrative, though. Too skinny, too slutty...I dunni, but something I don't like.

They'll have to tie up that loose end sometime. Also, the resemblence between the sherriff and the lady at Desmond's jewelery store is a bit uncanny, don't you think? Any connection there?

I keep coming back the the small casket. I keep coming back to how L&C like to play with words. I keep coming back to how they said we had "met" who was in the casket. Well, we saw an ultrasound. I know it's an out-there theory, and I honestly hope and sometimes think it's totally wrong. I mean, why would Kate be so cynical about going to the funeral if it was a child? Happy to hear your thoughts, though.

Looks like "Room 23" is officially in Talkback Heaven. But I wouldn't get too attached to this one yet...I have a feeling Herc will have at least 2 more LOST talkbacks started before the premiere...especially if he makes contact with Lindeloff & Cuse...and probably a big bombshell will come out of the new ARG/FlyOceanic right before Jan 31st that he'll want us to chat about. Then...the inevitable premiere day talkback...but hey...this feels like home for now.

Reading over some of the posts here...I had some thoughts.

The Coffin. Some people think it looked "too small" to be an adult size coffin...and it did appear to be a lil snug for a Michael...or a Locke...and certainly a Hurley!! But every shot of the coffin was from a very weird angle...especially the shot looking straight down on it. Someone over at The Fuselage even cut Jack out in a wide shot, flipped him horizontally and showed that he would have fit inside of it. Just barely, but he would have made it. I'm thinking the "size" of the coffin was as much a "prop" malfunction than a conscious effort by TPTB to throw us off any "trail". Also...the obit, as I mentioned back in Room 23, was not suppose to reveal the "teenage son" aspect...that nugget was revealed AFTER the fact by a production assistant who worked on the finale episode. That said...I can't see it being anyone BUT Michael...I think Jack was just surprised that Walt wasn't there, at the very least...and of course, Kate would want nothing to do with Michael after his murderous betrayal of the Losties back on the island. She appeared peeved at Jack for attending. Some might say..."Michael is too obvious"...but I think, in this case, everyone else is a red herring.

Sawyer singing "Farewell and Adieu" from JAWS gave me goose bumps. My favorite SHOW referencing my favorite MOVIE?! I still have a feeling Sawyer will meet his end in the mouth of a Dharma shark. Almost got him once!

That's a wonderful opening, but it continues. Charlie's sarcasm about chasing a dog with an arm in it's mouth into the creapy jungle, Hurley not realizing (or caring) it's sarcasm with a great line of his own about telling someone if he wasn't back in 3 hours, and finding the van.

I think I missed the fact Hurley's friend ran off with his girlfriend. I don't remember that at all.

The dart in Sawyer's foot was from the hatch, right? They didn't know the hatch had gone boom, did they.

I have a love/hate thing with the scenes on the beach when there's a reunion. This one when Kate and Sawyer come back may be my least favorite.

Jin and Hurley trying to communicate was classic. When Sawyer walked up it was great. Great hugs, great Sawyerisms, and beer.

Actually, I found myself laughing a lot in this one. The scene at the dinner table was laugh after laugh. Sawyer finding the head. Skeletor. 1000...10000. IHOP. Slapping Charlie. The phrases Sawyer was teaching Jin. Hurley's Sawyerism. Shambala. I like it when they do the lighter stuff. This one was a great reak from all the heavy stuff that's been going on this season.

Nice break to the break though with Kate, Sayid, Locke and Danielle. The look on Danielle's face when Kate referenced Alex was priceless.

As far as contracts go, you/he may be right about only 16 for the last 2 seasons, but seems to me if they were contracted for 16 in this season, Bad Robot will either owe ABC money for not a full season 4 or will have to add those other epsiodes to another season.

That's just speculation on my part, though.

But that brings me to another point which I asked back in "Room 23". Couldn't JJ/Bad Robot settle with the union like Letterman/Worldwide Pants did?

secondly teh whitescreen problem was this.....teh most annoying thing to happen ever...it happened twice over on teh old page, basically when u loaded up the page you got the headers and who posted the comment and when u went to click on teh header to read teh comment you were greated by a whitescreen....no comment no nothing, just a plain white screen

this left you with a few choices,

(a) run into the hills and cry,

(b)bitch about the whitescreen on the topic bar as you could still read it

(c)type reguardless hoping that someone somewhere else in the world wasnt getting whitescreen

or (d) contact teh AICN web,aster to try adn get it fixed....

Ill try again...

teh fist whitescreen problems we had you couldnt get on teh page at all....u would click on 'im sick of lying' and be greeted with a whitescreen straight away...you couldnt get on to read or contribute at all...this would last 4-5 days sometimes and tehn one day you would get on and teh next day it started again....

however, some folks contacted the webmaster and he sorted it out only for the whitescreen of doom to appear about 3 days b4 we reached teh 10,000.....

teh fact Kate did go maybe not Island related...remember that some time has passed since the person dies and tehy got off teh island..if this show teachs us anything it is a whole load of shit can happen to these folks in a small space of time..

Not saying that the "time travel" theory isn't a possibility (although I pray to God it's not)...I'm just saying there's lotsa other Losties that Jack might be interested in saving before the Hobbit.

One Charlie flashback that we never got to see that I wish we had, was DriveShaft...on stage...at Wembley...at the height of their success...Packed stadium...roaring fans...and Charlie and Liam smiling at each other while rocking out. Every Charlie flashback was such a downer...it would be nice to see just for a brief shining moment that they weren't always on the skids. Perhaps Desmond will take Penny to a DS concert in one of HIS flashbacks and we'll get to see that.

I always slightly worry at the start of seasons(look what happened to Heroes season 2)when they come off a fantastic run like season 3 did... If Darlton is able to pull off the same run of episodes from now until the end of Lost I would be over the moon but I dont think its a realistic goal to continue that momentum...whats everyone else expecting??? to be honest as well, my spirits and hopes have dropped alot with this writers strike and the fact thta were currently getting an 8 episode season...with it being so short they could make the most action packed season yet however I'd rather have it the way the writers (who know what they are at)planned

I think the Island is the failsafe point/the plan B for the world if things go tits up....If nuclear war is to happen or famine, disease etc..and mankind is coming to an end, teh Island is kind of a snow globe in that the outside influences do not affect it...the only thing that stopeed the Island from being discovered so far was the Looking glass..we know vechiles can go to and fro the Island, albeit crash in our flight 815 case but the Island does not have some forcefeild blocking people from getting to it, it just had something to block people from finding it

The medical research carried out on the Island is there to make sure the people who survive and know where to go can be cured if they are injured in whatever is tearing the world apart....only the rich, the very rich will go to the island if worse comes to worse (maybe this links in with our Winmore and Paik stories...)

The reason Ben is soo stuck up in fertility treatment is that he is more concerned about making these privilaged people stay on the island rather than riding out the storm on the island and returning to their own homes off the Island when the crisis is over (be it nuclear fall out or war)they stay til the crisis is over then rebuild their lives back where they came from.....the reasons there is no hotels or 5 star casino there yet is because the natives carried out a purge on DHARMA who were originally there to prep the island for suitability and they aint got round to it yet..

Bne has been preoccupied with setting mind games in motion and fear in the island that if a big event in the outside world was to occur he would be in a situation where he is in complete control...if people are coming everyone looks to Ben becuase they know he always has a plan.....he has had to fight for years to get this respect and has done so using strange and questionable methods (room 23, cages etc..)also the cages and polar bears could be seen as an attempt to prep the island for animals and wildlife that would someday be introduced so food could be taken by people living there and not to rely on food drops if worse came to worse...

teh reason Ben doesnt want anybody coming to teh Island is becaseu they firstly, want to keep it secret cause its his gig, aka he wants to be the one everyone looks up to when the world ends..if rival groups land there, then you have competition and thqat aint healthy in a life or death situation...secdonly maybe he wants to keep the Island as natural as possible, thats why Dharma was purged....leave the Island alone until it needs to be used..

The poeple coming on the frieghters want the island and all its mystical stuff to make money....cures for diseases...make millions if you say u can cure cancer.....tehy plan to rip teh island apart and take its secrets with them..Ben doesnt want that.,,, thats why he keeps maintaining he is one of the good guys...he doesnt want to rape the Island of its natural resources and what makes it special...he has been given the task to keep the islandm pure and ready for people if needed as the last place safe on earth...maybe its mysticalism prevents it from being hit with cancerous rays from nuclear fallout and until teh end of season 3 it was not going to be invaded by warring navies in a hurry,,,again this is a bit of a rant that is everywhere but what you guys think..id there any sence behind this madness I've written, im sure there is holes in what ive written, holes big enough you could fit a Locke powered blown up submarine but let me know what u think and please criticise the shit out of it,,

In a nutshell, Flat Time is a "time-based" overview rather than a "space-based" overview. This conceptual shift permits entirely new perspectives on phenomenology.

There is "passing time" that subjective phenomena whose relativity Einstein observed and quantified. There is "Time-Base" comprising the relative boundaries of observable events. There is "Flat-Time" which is the "area" subsumed by both of the above when they are used to form two axes of a flat graph of unfolding events.

It is this "Flat-Time" that creates the illusion of space

there appears to be a steep "slope" in the "pattern of likelihood's" which ensures that the embryo will develop as it "should" and as a very close replication of the way embryos of its species have "always developed". What slight and minute changes there are, comprise what we lightly refer to as "evolution", assuming them to be adaptations in the sequence in response to the environment. As there is no discernable physical record however, they cannot be "space-based" changes in the structure of the cells, but must be "imposed" by some unimaginable "configuring field" that stamps the new embryo with minor changes before it even "comes into existence". Those changes are not made in perceivable space but occur "elsewhere" and somehow "offstage" outside space-time even though such a thing is not even remotely possible according to our current overview of medicine. But babies still get born and species still evolve. We could say that changes are somehow made by experiences of former "performances"

it seems likely and now even generally agreed, that in successive "enactments" of "universe", the same approximate sequence will be followed

It would seem unnecessary to add concepts as local as "divinity" to a vision of such scale, yet it would also appear that the capacity to even truly imagine such a vision in its entirety approaches what is meant by the term "enlightenment". perhaps all conscious life is finally the "knowing eye" whose recursive capacity enables the meta-consciousness of the whole in some unimaginable macro sense.

It would seen clear to the writer that the one component of the whole that which no observer can ever include in a holistic vision is "where they are looking from". This only further underlines the crucial responsibility of the "observer" in the configuration of perception and the consequent boundaries in the "vision" of successive "overviews" for us all. Perhaps in the long run we truly do "create the future" in a macro sense, in concert with all other conscious life in our local universe, but are protected from the crippling emotional responsibility which certainly of this would bring, by the massive differential between the "time-base" of cosmos and the "time-base" of the gnat-like span of a human individual's life.

Personally...I believe Latham was the name Michael was given upon returning secretly with (or more likely without) Walt when he was returned to the states. It's an assumed identity...like a Witness protection name...because...whomever is covering up the island and the crash of 815 MADE him take this new identity. He returned without ANY fanfare...and probably without Walt...so when the Oceanic 6 return with lots of fanfare and hoopla...he reaches out to them...or at least Jack...even though he is under strict orders NOT to.

Michael becomes John Latham...and ends up in that coffin for trying to contact Jack...probably about how he was double crossed...and not allowed to leave with Walt...Because Ben LIED to him on that Pala Ferry dock...to make Hurley, Jack, Kate & Sawyer believe he is a 'man of his word".

Fun to speculate about "flat time" theories...but I think it's a red herring.

I thought some of it might apply to LOST. For example, it mentions evolution being changes "Imposed by some unimaginable "configuring field" that stamps the new embryo with minor changes before it even "comes into existence". Suppose evolution being sped up due to time being flat on the island is what caused the babies and mothers to die.

Another was "We could say that changes are somehow made by experiences of former "performances". Sounds a lot like the theories of an alternate universe or time loop without being that, doesn't it?

I thought the fact the writer mentioned devinity in this concept was interesting in how we've applied that to so many things in the show.

I considered the alien comment as maybe a "portal" that normally would not be be visable to aleins or us somehow got opened, possibly answering smokie and the whispers.

But I seriously found interesting "Perhaps in the long run we truly do "create the future" in a macro sense, in concert with all other conscious life in our local universe." This would seem to indicate that the fate v. choice debate might side with choice.

I know I've said this before, but at some point, probably the alternate reality phase, I thought this show was about choice. I remember saying something like we are who we are due to the choices we've made. Changing a choice could change reality.

"We have to go back Kate." So does Jack think he can "fix" things by changing his choice to get off the island? It just seems funny to me that we were having a conversation about the people in charge being smart. This is a little known theory that goes beyond space-time. If they are that smart...who knows.

They are also just names. The fact that the writers keep coming up with a 'tip o' the hat' to these great philosophers isn't random...but I don't think we'll start seeing the plot of Lost being directed by any of their theories, outright...but rather in "generalities".

Not sure if the island is truly lost in some 'time loop'...but that doesn't mean the story will accually SHOW that...but it gets you to thinking about those possibilites.

I'm just saying, and I think TPTB are well aware, that they MUST be careful when delving into the "sci-fi" on the show...Some people are DONE the minute they see Smokie..."ok...too sci-fi for me...going over to CSI"....Some are more open to the show getting on the "supernatural side". But there had better be balance...and it had all better eventually have a scientific explanation.

Cuz if Jack starts travelling back in time to the island to 'save' people...and being careful NOT to run into his past self...like some kind of "Back to the Future II" rip off...People are gonna start jumping ship in droves.

Last year at ComicCon, someone asked the panel about Walt's "advanced " aging...and how Malcolm David Kelly's "growth spurt" since Season 1 would be dealt with moving forward....since only a hundred days or so have elapsed on the island...which still makes it 2004 in the show's continuity. However, it's now 2008, and Malcolm is 4 years older or more than when he shot the pilot episode.

Damon said that problem was always factored in from the beginning...that "Walt's rapid growth will be explained and dealt with"...and when pressed further on the matter, Damon attempted to explain "Well...it's possible that time on the show is not as set in stone as you're being led to believe"...or words to that effect. Just then, Carlton cut him off with a "I don't think you want to go there, do you, Damon?"...and Damon agreed and shut up.

So...we know TIME will play a part...Time TRAVEL? I dunno. That's a huge leap. That's what takes LOST from being a drama with "sci-fi" overtones...to LOST becoming a sci-fi show with "dramatic" overtones, IMO.

So...what are we to take from Damon's musings about time? Well...remember...this was at ComicCon...Months before the shocking reveal that the finale was a flash "forward" and not a flashback. Is it possible Carlton cut him off because he was afraid he might tip their hand too much about the flash forwards to come, and was trying to make sure we were all properly surprised by the finale. Or...was he stopping Damon from getting into subject matters that delve deeply into possible "sci-fi/supernatural" events that are to come.

It seems to me...if they knew from the beginning there were going to be flash forwards, perhaps they knew at some point (because of the actor's age), Walt's story could only be told from the future...thus...get him off the island...and the problem is solved. Walt then only appears as the 2007(8) Walt. This may be why Walt was missing most of Season 2 and only appeared once in Season 3. And the NEXT time we see Walt...he'll be in the future...so his growth is explained.

The other factor to consider is... that the island gave Walt's "special" powers an additional "kick" and he is now able to appear before Locke in the finale "from the future". Something Walt possibly wouldn't have been able to do without his stint with The Others on the island.

But it could also just be that Carlton cut him off because if Damon had said "Hey...time is moving at an advanced rate on the island...the Losties think it's 2004...but in the outside world...it's actually April 2007!"...I could see where if you are told that...your eyes would begin glossing over and you become disheartened that "rules no longer apply" on LOST...that every time the writers write themselves into a corner...they can grab a big magic hat and pull out a sci-fi excuse and "Wah Laa"...the problem is solved. Not sure Carlton would want that just blurted out...but revealed slowly over the course of the show as it unfolds.

So, what am I getting at? I'm saying ANYTHING is possible...but I have a feeling that the core audience wants LOST to be based more on FACT...and not FICTION. Yes...we can put up with "an invisible island"...a "smoke monster"..."an partially invisible man living alone in a cabin", etc...But you also expect there to be semi-logical explanations for these things that aren't going to have anything to do with the "time space continuum" and "flux capacitors".

I'm sure the Dharma Initiative's experiments were greatly aided and advanced by the island's "mystical properties"...but...Super science is one thing....Super science fiction is another thing completely.

I'm just hoping TPTB handle the 'big picture' of LOST with explanations grounded in reality...and don't get too far "out there" (Hello, X-Files) when it's all said and done.

I didn't really care for this episode. Too much forced comic relief.

Cheech Marin is normally an enjoyable presence, but I didn't care for his lousy wigs. Right up there with Jack's future beard.

Sawyer is "home" for what, 2 minutes, and suddenly he's out looking for Hurley? To do what, recover his porn? Why single out the fat guy, Des and Charlie were just as responsible, and he let them off with pretty much a shrug. Also, who is the random Lostie chick giving Sawyer a hug when he returns? I thought they pretty much hated him on Lostaway Beach!

I was digging the 3 Dog Night tune that blasted out of the 8 track, however. We hear it again in Man Behind the Curtain, right?

Man, Hurley was a cute kid. Does anyone know a big guy like Hurley that was as skinny as he was at 11 or 12? On second thought, I do know a few old classmates that really porked out by the time they were 30 or so. Just looks so dramatic when they show it with the flashback.

Didn't care for Jin playing the ignorant immigrant role, learning our language. I did laugh at Sawyer's line about the only 3 things you need to say to a woman! Has Sawyer been married??

I hope this episode pays off, like yesterday's. Hurley better change his luck when/if he gets back home.

I think the arrival of Locke has shook him bad, the fact that a man in a wheelchair now walks scares him...his importance on the island maybe belittled..remember the surprise Richard had when yound Ben admitted he saw his dead mum..Richard knew he had someone 'special' at that moment..just the way everyone see's Locke as special....i liked the scene where Locke beats Mikhail and Ben asks people to stop it and no one does....shows Ben has lost some of that specialness and Locke is on the way up hence why he shot him.

Jacob was the one who didnt like technology..things will become alot more clearer when we discover who or what Jacob is and what union he has with the Island..

This is Benjiman Linus...A known liar and manipulator. You saw how he got into Locke's head inside the Swan hatch...toying with him..."Jack ain't the boss of you", etc...

What if those manipulations are simply continuing? What if Ben WANTS Locke to feel more and more powerful. With the exception of finding the Swan hatch, I believe everything Locke has done has been guided by Ben's hand...From taking Cooper to Sawyer in The Brig, to blowing up the sub, to being able to "see" Jacob...to throwing a knife into Naomi's back. Even Ben shooting John and leaving him for dead in the Dharma grave could have been just another "test" that Ben is giving Locke. What if he TOLD the Others, "Look...in a minute...John is going to start beating the shit out of Mikhail...I'm going to ask you all to stop him...but no one move a muscle...we need to make Locke THINK he is in control of his destiny".

I think if anyone believes that Ben is relinquishing ANY control of the island to Locke...then Ben his playing you better than he's playing Locke at the moment. Ben NEEDS John to do these things...even if it causes Ben to appear "weak". I don't think ben has lost ANY of the "specialness" the island has given him...I just think for the time being...he needs Locke to think HE is "special".

Same thing he always does...He got Jack to do the surgery by manipulating him with Kate and Sawyer...even though the surgery almost KILLED Ben...he still got him to do it, as he was fully prepared beforehand to release Sawyer & Kate back into the wild.

I'd forgotten about the whole "cat" story told by the Iraqi woman (who reminded me of Marisa Tomei) to Sayid. Couldn't figure out why Sayid was staring at the cat on the porch of the Flame.

Sayid theorized that Mikhail had just recently come to the Flame, but in flashbacks didn't we see him there before hand, when Ben took Juilet to see tape of her sister?

Episodes like this make me want to watch the next one right away! Bring on the next episode!

when he was on teh floor being starved and the threat of torture, you can see he was not concerned about his own safety or life he was concerned about forgivness, how many of our losties are truely seeking forgiveness for teh shit they have done in the outside world?????

Best thing is he is not afraid to use the skills that he has to get results, he fights like hell, he can be shot and still beat Mikhail..he is cool in situations and mindful to take maps and otehr things that maybe helpful.....without him I think the losties would have lost their heads a long time ago under the obsessive Jack and the revengeful sawyer...they need a cool, calm and collected head amoungst all the madness....

I think he is underused in teh show maybe to make way for a more prominant role in season 4 but honestly would rather see alot more of Sayid than more of Jack or even Sawyer..we know their characters, weve seen them in different scenarios and different moods, Sayid aint got the chance to show all his personality...he is playing teh role of understated leader perfectly...I think he is in control of things with the 815ers and lets Jack and the other budding leaders beleive they are in control..everyone seems to go to Sayid to get the green light for thier plan..even in through the looking glass, Sayid is the man who is in charge of killing the otehrs and he does a dam good job of it(only for Jin to fuck it up)but the neck snap was 80's victory punch good

I heard a rumour he is one of the Oceanic 6...again these rumours seem to be true so Im hoping we get to see alot more of the man in his prime wrecking the place and maybe just maybe having a little bit of fun on the Island..aint really seen him smile since Shannon died.....oo and also teh Hurley/ Sayid relationship is one of the funniest on teh Island...you just smell the fear off Hurley everytime he goes up to talk to him, its fantastic

I love how Sayid handles Locke. He's fed up with John's "holistic", for lack of a better word, means. And he tells Locke they're going to have a rational conversation when he comes back. But what's Locke's response? Kinda like an "Okay, but nothing's going to change" nod. Then they find the cow and the flame station. So Locke's "guidance" worked. It amazing how they make the different characters personalities work together.

Still, IMHO, Sayid is going to cold cock Locke before this is all over.

I got something different this time in Danielle's refusal to storm the flame station. It seems like she was telling everyone doing this it was no way to survive, but then she looks at Sayid real quick like You should know better than this. And afterwards, Sayids expression has changed the least little bit...kind of a lack of the usual confidence is missing. I didn't see that last time.

See, the flashback showed him questioning the other iraqi...all that doubt and mistrust. For some reason, that goes away around Locke. If Locke gets Sayid in a precarious postion and Sayid get a chance to take a swing at him because of it, watch out.

Here's another interesting reference that ties in to the finale. Patchy is the last LIVING member of the Dharma Initiative. Now who talks like that? Wouldn't you say that line with the living part? Just like Ben in the finale...every living person on this island will die. So maybe it's a red herring once, but twice? Seems odd.

Come to think of it, D&C said the Losties weren’t dead or in purgatory, but did they ever say the others weren’t dead? Might make an interesting twist on that flat time portal thing I mentioned earlier. The dead or people that died on the island having a way back to our reality. Might also explain the whispers...those that are dead and can see what’s going on but can’t get back to us.

Okay, so Ben killed his Dad, came back to camp and everyone there in Dharma was dead, but Dharma, according to patchy initiated the purge. If that’s true, we haven’t seen it yet. Might be nice in a Ben flashback...maybe where we discover what happened to Annie.

Funny Hurley was the ping pong choice...especially since he had the most to win from the bet.

I absolutely love the fight scene...especially how it leads up to it...and how it ends with Kate kicking Patchy’s face. And the look on Kate and Locke’s face when Sayid threw back the rug was awesome.

The line the tortured wife said, "That is enough for today”, isn’t that what Sayid said in one of his torture flashbacks or with Ben or Sawyer? He planted the doubt, though.

Those notebooks would have made for some interesting reading, huh?

I also missed the sonar access thing when Locke won at chess...sonar being underwater communication...I think. That’s our first indication of the Lookout station isn’t it?

Remember the old joke about the masochist asking the sadist to hurt him, and the sadist says no? Seems like every time Sayid’s asked to do something his enemy wants he says no. Anyone know what Sayid means in Farsee?

I love Hurley rubbing it (winning at ping-pong) in, and Sawyer being frustrated sitting there trying to fix his glasses. And nice psycho analysis by Hurley of the Kate thing.

The ending Sayid and the wife scene was incredible. Him breaking down, her forgiving him and setting him free, because she was proving herself better than her torturer.

Logically speaking, if Dharma had been overrun by the hostiles and you were in charge of the flame, would you have entered 77? Did Locke do the right thing? Hmmmmmmmmm... I don’t think he knew it was going to blow up, though, not by the look on his face when it did. And the look on Sayid’s face after he explained the situation was almost like this was the first reasonable thing he knew of Locke doing...and it still made him angry.

I started watching this at a little after 9, and it finished nearly an hour and a half later. That’s how much I backed things up. There was an awful lot in this episode, and even though I thought it was great when it aired, I think it’s amazing now. Maybe the "biggest" episode last season.

Also how good is Patchy, he seemed to be a real good villian especially for Sayid, you could see he was smart and could handle himself...pity he is dead but we definatly not seen the last of him

I think Pathcy said Dharam started teh purge by landing on the island and taking the Island for granted...as soon as tehy went there and started building houses and hatch's and disrupting the Island the natives saw it as a threat and decided to defend their home.....maybe that explain it...

at the end of the episode he admits to lying just before he shoots Locke, I dont know whats going on with the man, yes he is trying to keep a truthful front for his people but he just seems to be a fucking maniac

I thought the conversation between Kate and Danielle, as well as being pertinent to the issue, might have been a way of telling the people that want answers all the time they really don’t. To me, Danielle didn’t want to know about Alex because she wanted to find out for herself...and enjoy the time it took to get to know her daughter...something we all seems to agree on about getting to know the characters and taking the ride that is LOST. Man there was so much in the patchy “conversation” with Kate. The event, not being CAPABLE to understand because you’re not on the list, the magnicent man that’s not Ben, the losties are flawed, angry, weak and frightened, calling Kate and Sayid by name, and then turning to Locke.

I’m a little confused about the timeline. Is Claire's flashback before, during or after the one where Ana was driving Christian around? I would guess it’s before because Claire isn’t about to pop yet, but I’m just not sure.

2 last thoughts. I remember the Jack scene as being jaw dropping. Not so much now. In fact, he’s looking in that last scene like he's accepted things pretty quick. Sometimes I wonder about him.

Sawyer was reading The Fountainhead, so I googled it. Wikipedia says “The Fountainhead examines the life of an individualistic young architect, Howard Roark, who chooses to struggle in obscurity rather than compromise his artistic and personal vision...” If we tie this to the show and what we know already, the person I’d pick to match the book would be Jacob. But I’d be wrong if you read further. “Due to the controversy surrounding the book and the influence the book has because of its popularity, 'The Fountainhead' is often referenced in popular culture. The book often appears in literature to suggest Objectivist-related thought or change within a character, such as with the character Janet in the 1992 motion picture Singles or the character Sawyer in the television series Lost.” I swung and missed...maybe.

Now...when the Oceanic 6 turn up...miraculously alive...that's when they have to get in 'spin control' mode and make up a new 'known' island that these few surviviors were able to make it to...come up with a 'fake story' of their survival and how they were found.

By the way...'Spin Control' would be a great LOST episode title...that deals with Oceanic Airlines connection with the island.

Logic dictates that if you enter 77 because Dharma knew there was a chance the hostiles will overrun the place, they would want the flame with all the books distroyed...keeping all material out of the Dharma hands. Since he had C4 in his pack, you would think he knew there was wired C4 in the basement it was probably going to explode.

But why are we to assume he got his C4 from the basement. We never saw him there, so we can't be sure he didn't find it somewhere in the room where the computer chess game was.

Then again, he didn't want Kate and Sayid to know he had C4 in his pack. Why?

I'd love to go to America just to have a lovely cold beer in a good climate...most of our drinking takes place inside a steriotypical Irish bar caues its too cold to take the beers outside....in taht school today i was talking to one of teh older English teachers, he's in his 50's now and I got him into the Soprano's just before xmas and he fucking loved it......but he thanked me today for getting him into Lost, he said a year or so ago when I was doing a bit of subbing we were talking about good TV and that I mentioned I was a big Frasier fan and that I adored the Band of Brothers, so he said he listened to what I said as he respected my taste in TV.. When Christian was in Australia with AnaL, I thought he was arguing with Claire's mum. Was that her aunt instead? I'll have to watch again. Because I only figured it out as soon as I saw him in her mother's room, and it was quite a jolt for me!

also the teaching side.....I am a supply (substitute) teacher here in sunny Northern Ireland..I sub in both Primary and Secondary schools(im not fully sure what u call them in the states, primary is ususally 4-11 years of age and secondary is 11-16 or 18 years of age).Im a history teacher for secondary schools but teach in both fields,its all very legal, haha.....I have to wait for a phone call every morning to se if I work a day or not, sometimes I get pre booked a bit in advance and it is tough enough work...the kids over here are very ignorant and dis-respectful..but you just need to crack the whip and go Sayid on their asses..what about yourself??????? any wee antitodes that u can tell me to give me a snapshot of teaching in america??

Also, Tom Hanks and George Clooney have been trying to put pressure on the studios to negoiate. Hanks doesn't want the Oscars cancelled, like the Golden Globes were. Oscars are scheduled in about 6 weeks - maybe if they settle by then, we'll get more than 8 weeks of Lost this year!!!

I remember those days of getting called at 5 in the morning, being asked to teach some ungodly subject in a horrible district. But I live in the rural midwest - kids are generally pretty well behaved. I'm glad I'm no longer a sub! We have elementary (K-6) and secondary (7-12) schools. I teach in a public high school, 9-12. I've taught pretty much everything in my career, but I'm certified in mathematics and public speaking. Strange combo. I enjoy it or I wouldn't still be doing it after a dozen years!

I am actively seeking employment but so far no luck.......I actually am getting enough days to pay the bills and get out for a wee drink everynow and again(kiss of death).......

thats a good age to teach you ahe there..they are still keen to learn and aren't that world weary yet to be cheeky gits..haha

I subbed one day back in March (I think)there in an absolutly horrible school (arsonists and stabbings have occured there on more than one occasion)and the pupils of this year 4 class (14-15 years old) were discussing Lost..they were actually discussing room 23....as that was the episode that aired and they downloaded it and watched it before they went to school...we got into a debate on what was happening on the Island and it was a really good class...(the actual teacher had not left work so it was glorified babysitting)...we talked for 2 classes which is 70minutes...really good thing to get chatting to a class about if they are into it..we could have went on all day.........I was walking down the corridor later on that and heard a young lad say,'He's a cool teacher, he likes Lost'..I found that hilarious,that I was respected not because I was a teacher but because I liked Lost haha..kids these days

So, what's other folks do? Something similar? Different? Anyone else want to contribute/fess up?

However in Sri Lanka, this usually has a somewhat different meaning. The gesture is used to greet (as well as a parting remark) people with the verbal "Aayubowan", hence it's called Aayubowan. Aayubowan roughly means 'may you live long'. When used at funerals to greet the guests, the verbal part is usually omitted. The aayubowan gesture is also a cultural symbol of Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan hospitality. This is also the means used by Sri Lankan air hostesses to greet passengers, and used in other hospitality settings.

So in Sri Lanka it is used by flight attendants and at funerals.

I wonder if there's a connection. hmmmmmmm.........

When Kate and Locke arrive at the Others' camp, Ben promises to tell Locke the island's secrets as long as he stops his destructive plan, and Kate's reunion with Jack doesn't go very well when she learns that the Others have offered him a deal. More of Locke's troubled past is revealed.

I liked how they made you think Locke was in a wheelchair, but instead his disability was depression. Also loved Locke’s line about this being more complicated than they thought.

I found the Jack and Kate stuff puzzling...and I don’t know why.

Speaking of puzzles, the Ben/Locke/wheelchair conversation wasn’t puzzling, but it sure was a puzzle. And when it gets to the “you’re in a wheelchair and I’m not” the puzzle comes full circle...except it doesn't since at the end of the episode Ben says the same thing backwards.

The famous scene with Cooper was better the first time. Element of surprise I guess. But the scene with Locke being put in the wheelchair was just as powerful.

I think the way Ben calls everyone "his people" shows he is thought of as the chosen one...even if it's only himslef (which I doubt) that thinks of him that way. But Locke is Ben’s true test....in the sense of Jesus being testing in the dessert by Satan.

And even though we knew Cooper was in the box/closet, it was still a great ending.

When both Nikki and Paulo apparently die, the rest of the castaways try to figure out what happened to them. In the course of the investigation, the truth about Sun's "kidnapping" comes to light. Flashbacks show what Nikki and Paulo were doing before the crash and why they kept to themselves afterwards.

Also, like Ana Lucia (another vilified Lost character by fans), when N & P end eventually does come...it almost makes you feel sorry you hated them so much for barging into the show in the heavy handed way that they did.

Jin: Shut up! Don’t pity me! All I wanted was one thing to go right.

Hurley: You can’t…

Jin: Do you want to say something? You don’t talk for once, you don’t talk! How can I lose to both Hurley and Michael?

Hurley: I think I heard our names in there somewhere.

Jin: I hate this horrible island. Why doesn’t anybody understand me? All I wanted was one moment of happiness! Why? Why can’t I be happy? Who invented this crazy game? No! You horrible ball! Why?

Michael: Maybe we should do something?

Jin: Please take this handcuff off! I’m going crazy.

Jin: You don’t care about me, do you? Don’t look at me with pity in your eyes. I’ve beaten men for lesser offenses!

Hurley [to Michael who headed toward Jin]: Eh, don’t touch him. Let him get it out.

Hurley: Maybe we should take a break from golf for a while.

Jin sits down and cries: I’m so alone. I’m so alone.

I too was startled to see Locke hop up at the government agency. Couldn't remember how far back this was flashing.

The Jack and Kate interaction in the "rec room" was VERY odd. Something is missing somewhere. Knowing what we know now, it seems strange. Is Jack feeling guilty because he's leaving the Island? Is he saying little because he knows they're listening? He seems so odd.

And Danielle sees Alex. Great episode!

Also loved Sawyer still didn’t know who she was.

I hated and still hate Razzle Dazzle. What a stupid catch phrase.

Dr. Kinkaid esq? A lawyer/doctor? Funny name for a TV show (mentioned in Nikki's older man epitaph).

God Shannon was a bitch to Boone.

Nice to see the burning wreckage again...and Doc Arzt. And how focused (and misled) is Nikki? Finding Paulo on the beach in the midst of all the wreckage from the crash they just survived and asking him where the bag was.

20 new species on the island. Interesting. Wonder if they are new species or old forgotten ones. Wonder if we'll ever find out.

It is funny what Nikki and Paulo found but kept secret...or maybe not secret, just didn't see the importance of.

It’s also interesting how and what conclusions the losties jump to...and how they don’t seem to trust one another either.

"I find out what he’s emotionally invested in and I exploit it." Now that’s the most truth Ben ever spoke. And the fact he discloses this to Juliet so matter-of-factly...I think maybe we should be watching her. She might end up being the female Ben. Think about it. Ben when caught in lies would tell the truth then twist and exploit it. We saw in a mobisode Juliet confess to Jack she was working fo Ben after 2 of the losties (Sawyer and Kate?) discovered...whatever. I just think we should keep this in mind with Juliet.

There are some classic lines in this...one of which is Sawyer’s not a murderer. So says Sun before Locke cons Sawyer into killing Cooper. Nice to hear that now that we know what happens.

I forgot Charlie fessed up to Sun in this episode.

I still wonder if the losties will realize what they did...bury them alive. Dunno how. Maybe they’ll need the diamonds to pay off the freighters or to cut something (hardest mineral).

Sawyer had a lot of shit go down in this episode leading up to Locke conning him into killing Cooper. Feeling pretty bad about himself leading up to that. Nice writing.

Touching the reason Paulo gave for hiding the diamonds. Awwwwwww...

its different....its like the episode taht had a flashback on the Island to tell us what happened at different places when we were concerned with other events..im looking at Maternity Leave, other 48 days,live together die alone, the brig.....

its gives us another peice in the rich tapestry that makes this show soo good, and to take two characters, who were for some reason hated, adn give them a fantastic death and story that unveils different aspects of different characters is fantastic

there will be a bunch of haters there and gone by the time I get there, I hope they stick around til we have a wee fight...

There have been a couple shows that started without the "Previously on Lost" voice besides this one. I know there was one either earlier this season or at the end of season 2.

I watch the show with the "English for Hearing Impaired" on. I usually run on the treadmill while watching, so I like not to miss any dialogue. The TV caption said "Pa ... lyz" as Nikki expired. When they reshowed it later on, the caption changes to "Paralyzed."

Ok, so Mr. LaShade was really the Cobra! After 4 seasons, his identity was revealed as the mastermind all along. We got the foreshadowing of the guest star getting killed off, now ... could this season be the time that Jacob is finally revealed? It's someone we already know and trust?

I like the Star Wars vibe with Billy Dee. Previously we found out two characters are brother and sister and didn't know it, and Sawyer plays the old "Wookie Captive" trick. My family just got done watching the original Triology, so I've had Star Wars on the brain.

Dr. Kincaid, Esquire. Show sounds like a cross between Dr. Kildare and Quincy, ME. Two old time doctor shows for you young'uns.

The "Wolfgang Puck of Brazil." Didn't someone say that people have called the actor who plays Paulo the "Tom Cruise of Brazil?" I was shocked when I saw the actor playing the bald-headed god/man in "300" this spring. "Hey - that's Paulo up there on that throne!"

How would Dr. Artz know that he had found "20 new species" of spiders? He's just showing off for Nikki, my guess.

I don't really like Nikki and Paulo finding things out (?) before our main Losties, but you guess the other people on the island must have some stories to tell too.

When I first saw this episode, I kept thinking "Why do they keep showing their dead bodies? Are they really dead?" And then Vincent pulls off the blanket. So I yelled "I knew it!" when they got buried alive, Hitchcock-style, at the end. But you know, Locke says "nothing stays buried on this island." Could they come back? Surprised we haven't seen them on the mobisodes.

Right before this episode aired, they did a short blurb on the gal that played Nikki in USA weekend or some similiar magazine. She was listed as "one of the new characters on Lost this season" and she was saying how much she loved being added to the show. And then they killed her off like the very next week!

In itself, my biggest complaint about this episode is that is slowed down the momentum from the previous week. But as a stand alone, it's not bad. Razzle-Dazzle!

The Others are vacating their home, and one of the castaways is leaving with them. Kate is knocked out and wakes up in the jungle handcuffed to Juliet. Kate is determined to return to get Jack, while Juliet believes she has been abandoned. The two have to work together in order to survive. Flashbacks show how Kate tried to reconcile with her mother. Meanwhile, Hurley informs Sawyer that a vote will be held on whether or not to banish him. The two concoct a plan to get everyone to like Sawyer so he can stay.

Oh yes, that will be revisited. Many more of those pieces will be filled in, and back story, which is really back story of the island, or of the human habitation of the island.

Good points on Left Behind... I always say "Kate killed her step dad" in threads BECAUSE of this episode...and I'm always corrected with a thrashing "REAL FATHER"!!...Glad I'm not the only one confused. And Juliet DID kick some Kate ass...but I dunno about super strength yet. Who knows what kind of martial arts training she may of had before we met her in Miami...or once she got TO the island. I think that was the writers having fun tearing down this strong character in Kate by letting Miss Other trounce her thoroughly. Now...If all that fighting had ended in long wet kisses between the two...well...Left Behind would have gotten the EPISODE OF THE UNIVERSE award!

Yes...I want to know why Smokie merely "scans" sometimes...and reacts violently on others. What is it "thinking"? Assessing threat levels? Scanning people for goodness/evilness? Is it not "scanning" at all...and is just "on the fritz"...sort of a broken relic from the old Dharma days?

And Kate's BEST LINE is dead on...so funny how the writers tip their hats to what the fans are saying and writing about online. Everytime you think you have LOST figured out...you don't.

also how good is Sayid by not trusting Juliett...Jack is a bit of a bitch to him but if Sayid really decided not to take Juliett Jack would have to abide or get his ass handed to him.....

I also thought Sawyer’s girl that Kate bailed out at the gas station was the hottest woman on Deadwood (Joni).

Interesting Locke said forgiveness isn’t one of their strong suits, but if they are “connected” to the island, the island seems to expect redemption. Nice.

Hurley conning Sawyer may have been one of the best side things ever written.

Does anyone know if that canister was the same thing as Ben opened to kill his Dad?

I have trouble believing Juliet was gassed too....at least gassed without a purpose. She does look hot asleep, though.

Of all the wigs they use, they get the one in this episode right. Hmmmmmmm...

Nice cat fight. Hard ending to it, but great beginning to the next scene. I like the ending of that too. Are we safe? You tell me.

You can’t help who you love. That may be Kate’s story with Jack and Sawyer.

With all Juliet said she knew about Jack, no wonder Kate saw her as an obstacle. Jack didn’t help much with the “even Juliet” comment.

Smokie wasn’t tethered to the ground.

I loved the Sawyer scene where he was politicking, holding the baby, understanding Hurley was right, then looking at Sun and realizing he still had work to do. Great.

I wonder how the Kate discovering Sawyer was the other man in Cassidy’s life will work out?

If you say the reason you’re taking someone back home with you that your “family” doesn’t trust and the reason why is that because she was left too, that doesn’t mean you now trust her, does it? It could mean I realize when they left her it might have been as a plant, but maybe it’s better to have them where we can watch them and possibly use them to our advantage...couldn’t it?

I’m just sayin............

Jack returns, but no one is in the mood for celebrating when they see that Juliet has come back with him. As Juliet struggles to find a way to be accepted, flashbacks show how she came to the island and what she was doing during those three years. She sees a chance to help when Claire suddenly develops a dangerous illness, but Sawyer and Sayid are reluctant to trust her.

Ok, seriously, another strong episode. Locke's leaving did seem as odd as Jack's conversation with Kate 2 episodes ago. What are we missing?

So Kate and Juliet recover from the gassing while it's still daylight, spend the night hiding under the trees from Smokie, then finally make it back to Otherland the next day, and Jack is still gassed on the floor? Sayid not recovered yet either? Explain that - did Jack get an extra dose of gas?

Jackface! Jack wants Juliet to come too. Sayid wouldn't take out Jack - it would come back to haunt him. Somehow the Losties back at camp would find out he's responsible if he hurt or killed Jack.

Can't trust a word that Juliet says. As much as you want to believe her, she's just as slippery and deceivious as Ben.

By the way, don't you love Hurley's Dharma van circling around on the main menu of this disc?

She revealed that she knows things that only Sawyer & Sayid know about themselves. So...I hope we get to see a scene where Sawyer & Sayid TALK about that fact...Like..."Wait a minute...how the hell did that Other bitch know so much about us?"...I mean...at some point, the Losties HAVE to start wondering...How do they know about Basra...How do they know my real name is James Ford...How did they know I was a spinal surgeon...How did they know my real name is Hugo...How did they know I was in a wheelchair before the crash...

It's getting pretty frustrating how the Losties aren't asking those type of questions, if not to Ben or Juliette, then to each other!! At some point...they have got to start asking themselves..."What if our being here wasn't an 'accident' afterall?"

I hope Season 4 reveals some better communication skills among the Losties.

I love how Sayid looks at Juliet when they make camp. Then “Okay, let’s have it.” “I want to know...:” “Who are you?” If I told you you’d kill me. What do you think I’ll do if you don’t?

I forgot Claire got sick in this episode. But better, I also didn’t remember she was sick before Juliet ever came to camp. The we find out later Ben "activaqted the implant"? What?

I can’t wait to see how intense the trip to get to the island in the sub is...at least, I hope we find out....if it actually was intense. hmmmm...

"You’ll see things there (the island) you never imagined." So says Richard. Ya think??

Almost a reluctant handshake between Juliet and Ben when they met. Interesting.

3 men and a baby because Sawyer counted Hugo twice. hahahahahahahahahahaha

Sawyer had a great relieved look when he saw Kate...better than before that when he saw Jack. I think he might have been relishing the thought (at least) of being the leader. And then the hug...awwwwwwwwwww...

Juliet’s non-verbal response when Sawyer said what the hell is she doing here was great. And the Hurley and Juliet talk was wonderful. “I had the day off” was classic, as was Hurley’s mention of “We buried him over there”."

God!! Could you hate anyone more than Ben on the rocks when he told her her sister had cancer again. Then he says 2 things interesting. First, no trace on the island of cancer...at least at that point. Then he mentions Jacob and asks Juliet if she “believes” in him. Again, an interesting choice of words.

An interesting question from Jack...was she (Claire) showing any symptoms before we got back. Now what the hell would that have to do with anything?

The entire scene in the kitchen with Juliet and Ben was incredible. Originally, I thought this (and the scene where she see’s the TVs) was confirmation of the alternate dimension theory. Now, I don’t have a clue. Pretty cold Ben saying No to you can’t go home.

Moral police? YES!! Who owns who here in the scene with Juliet Sawyer and Sayid?

Did you notice Ben asked Goodwin and Ethan to get lists as they watched the plane crash and were instructed to become a survivor?

I still wonder why Patchy cut the video feed at that moment. I originally thought (because of the alternate universe theory) that they cut the feed at that moment because Juliet was there. Seeing herself in another place at the same time she was viewing the stream would...well, besides giving a lot away, probably be a little mind blowing.

On the other hand, a clone would also be a possibility for that reason, wouldn't it?

Jack’s playing her on the beach. Bet ya. Just as sure as she’s playing him, as sure as Ben set it up, as sure as the tides rise in winter. So why the implant in Claire? What is the implant. Besides making her sick, what does it do? I really want to know this.

Hurleys mum is funny but annoying and over critical to Hugo(first time i've ever called him Hugo I think)

Sawyer has alot of parental issues since his mums affair(Mary as Cooper happily tells him)was teh spark that lead to his parents murder/suicide.....

Walt's mom was definitely unstable, if not necessarily a bitch.

In that show, Ben had healing powers. But if he healed something else had to be stricken. He healed a girl with polio and the crops all died. He healed a friend who was about to die from being tarred and feathered and birds that were circling all died.

Additionally, his powers were handed down generationally...with a twist. See, there were always 2 people on earth that had these powers. One good. One bad. (Interesting side not is the bad one was Clancy Brown.) But whatever their fathers were, the sons were the opposite.

The mommy thing is the moms were nuts. Loopy. Commitable. But only after...I don't remember if it was after childbirth or after sex with a healer.

So if applied to this show we could say the opposites might be our Ben and Locke, each of which had their fathers killed (also a part of Carnivale), and we don't know about Ben's mom, but we do know Locke's was nuts.

Does the name of the airport or airline mean anything - "Heratar?" Alpert gives that great line about time flying on the island - definitely a huge clue! Right???

Practically everything Ben says is a lie, or at the very least, a twist on the truth. Yet Juliet still goes along with him.

Why didn't Jack insist someone go with Juliet as she went to look for medicine? I was glad that Sawyer and Sayid went looking for her - wouldn't make sense to let her run off into the jungle on her own if they don't trust her.

Definite favorite line: Hurley's "..he's buried over there." 2 discs left to go!

whilst watching it and shaking my head at teh horrible attempted Irish accents I saw a man that I noticed....i thought 'I recognise that person from Lost'..

I went on IMDB and saw him, Borther Cambell aka Desmonds superior Monk in Lost...teh same man who had a picture of him and Mrs Hawkins on his desk...

huge coincidence ehhh....the same two people who we have never seen together in the lost world but we know have a connection are on the saem terrible televison show on a rainy sunday morning....LOST

Desmond convinces Hurley, Jin, and Charlie to follow him on a trek through the jungle after he receives a series of visions. Flashbacks reveal the time that Desmond spent with a cloister of monks. Meanwhile, a despondent Kate turns to Sawyer for companionship after seeing Jack and Juliet together.

My thought during the scene with Jack and Kate and the oatmeal was Jack was keeping his friends close (Kate) and his enemies (Juliet) closer.

Interesting that Des had the thought about Penny spending the last 3 years looking for him and we find in the finale she has.

Okay, so Ruth was left 1 week prior to the wedding after dating for 6 years and still welcomed Des in with a cup of tea? I’ve heard of being civil, but...damn!!

The Flash/Superman conversation I originally thought was a clue due to the vibration thing...he vibrated to a parallel universe. The Naomi thing was a puzzle. If she’s not on Penny’s boat, then how did she know Des? Did we ever find that out?

But the movie trailer is still using the same "endplate" from last season. How was Cloverfield? Still haven't made it to the theater yet!

Well...my simple answer is...It's her Dad's boat. I believe Chuck Widmore banished Des to that island as a sort of makeshift "prison"...since the military prison wasn't able to keep Des out of Penny's life. (Who wants to bet that Charles had something to do with Desmond ending up in that military prison, as weil?!).

I think Charles knows ALL ABOUT Craphole Island...knows about the hatches...and Dharma...and was keeping tabs on the island...which gave him a "head start" in getting HIS team there before Penny's team...as he knows exactly where to look for it...Penny's Boat has the coordinates now...but Charles already had a boat standing by to investigate the electromagnetic anomoly.

Naomi worked for Chuck Widmore, is what I'm trying to say. But I think she was genuinely surprised to find survivors from Flight 815 there...since the official release from the NTSA & Oceanic listed 815 as "found with no survivors". She was only looking for Desmond...she was probably gonna swing by the Swan hatch and make sure he was still inside, dutifully "pushing the button".

That's my guess, anyways.

Sun learns what happens to pregnant women on the island. Juliet takes her to the Staff in order to learn the baby's D.O.C. (Date of Conception). Sun recalls how she learned about Jin's parents. Meanwhile, the woman who dropped from the sky is dying, and Desmond and Charlie clash as an adversary arrives who can help her.

there was a severe lack of Vincent in season 3..without Walt and Shannon to take care of him, we see very little of him

Hurley and Charlie are gold when they are on screen, especially when near Jin and Desmond...tehy are Losts little Stand by me group...love it

Patchy did get his ass kicked, but you gotta admit he gives as good as he gets.

Jin’s mother was with many men. So maybe Jin is the illegitimate Son of Paik. Wouldn’t that be a twist.

I had forgotten that Sun asking for money was the reason Jin was “promoted”.

Naomi was great in that scene where they pulled out the branch. Anyone remember what it really was she said to Patchy afterwards?

I wanted to answer Juliet’s “We all make mistakes” with “not on this island we don’t”.

Des is a little trusting where the ultimate outcome is “getting to Penny”. Not even bothering to check Patchy before he let him go? I bet that "trusting nature" comes back to bite him before it’s all said and done.

Caring about someone’s honor more than you care about your own life must be a helluva trait. (Sun caring more it's Jin's than about her dying.)

I had a thought. Juliet’s experiments have never worked. Ben won’t let her go. Since she really wants off the island, might she be lying about when Sun got pregnant? So possibly Ben is told a baby was conceived on the island but was actually conceived off the island is brought to term and considered to be the first true “son of the island” might actually get Juliet off the island. So the twist I mentioned earlier would end up now being a double twist.

Sound like anyone’s writing/plot twists we know and love? Wonder if Jack's envolved?

I swear the first time I saw this episode I knew that was Jin's mom when she sat down. Actually, I thought it was the same actress that played the Jade Fox in "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon," but imdb.com says otherwise. She is the woman that plays the Geisha in the iconic shot from Blade Runner where you see her picture in a huge digital billboard.

They used a poor match for a stuntman when Jin chases Patchy through the jungle. Check it out - balding one second, full head of hair the next, then balding again. Still, we get to see Kung Fu Jin!

Juliet isn't making any effort not to be creepy - why not just talk to Sun quietly, why sneak into her tent in the middle of the night and put her hand over Sun's mouth?

Freakiest line of the whole season that blew all my theories was Naomi's at the end. How do they confirm everyone was dead is the plane is down so deep?

Sounds a little nitpicky, but another great episode, of course.

[A timer is beeping. Juliet runs to the oven and gets her muffins out. She burns her hand. The doorbell rings. She runs her hand under water. It’s the woman from the beginning of ATOTC, Amelia. Amelia gets her something from the freezer.]

Does Ben like Juliet in a romantic way? In the mobisode Amelia said "Finally told you how he felt, huh?" That doesn't mean Juliet reciprecated. In fact, Goodwin was still around at that time. There's also nothing in that statement that proves Amelia was talking about Ben. But, when Ben was laying on the operating table and Juliet was speaking to him, Tom said they had a history. He did not say if it was a mutual or 1-sided history. So long story short, we don't know. It could be that Ben did fess up to her, and the reason he wasn't in the book club anymore was because of that fact. Could also be that he sent Goodwin knowing/hoping/believing he would not survive, thus leaving an opening for Ben.

Why is it that Ben having a Tumor makes it so that they are all in troble? All we can do at this point is speculate. Does Ben have "special powers"...and I'm not speaking in the Flash/Superman vein. Are their lives somehow linked to Ben being alive? Remember, every living person on the island is now supposed to be killed according to his "prophecy". If their lives are linked to his...who knows? Maybe he's just got them conned into believing he's the 1st son of the island...born there. I dunno.

But it sure is an interesting question to add to the list, huh? From the S4 preview post you posted earlier, I'd say we find out pretty quick...relatively speaking, of course.

The island demands a sacrifice, so Locke has to kill his father. That should hit home in so many areas, but he still can’t bring himself to do it.

Des has the trust issue, as in who to trust, pretty much down now. But it’s still a single minded trust in the direction of getting to Penny. Still bet it comes back to bite him.

The conversation Locke had with Sawyer about his folks was cold...and tense...and intense.

Loved Sayid’s face when Naomi pulled out the phone/radio.

Kinda funny Cooper used a Sawyerism (Bug Eye) on Ben.

The Sawyer/Cooper scene was awesome. Watching Sawyer figure it out....wow. And when he coolly reached in his back pocket and pulled out the letter....unbelievable.

Blah, blah, blah, blah? If you were about to get your ass kicked...or worse, even in hell, would you say that to the man about to kick your ass?

For some reason my memory of the scene with Danielle I thought no words were spoken.

I didn’t notice last time that Richard did not say to Locke Cooper had to die. He said he had to go. Interesting choice of words.

WOW!! We haven’t heard that line in a while. “Don’t tell me what I can’t do, John.” Okay, so that means Locke, Jack, Claire, and now Ben have all said those words. Did I miss anyone? Did Kate?

So after all those years, after the island demands a sacrifice, the island gets it’s sacrifice and Sawyer gets his justice/revenge. Wonderful writing. And even afterwards, it makes him sick that he did it.

I always loved that line, I’m on my own journey now.

Locke confronts Ben and demands that Ben take him to Jacob. Ben complies, but the answers Locke receives are not what he expected. Ben remembers his childhood on the Island, revealing the history of the Dharma Initiative and how the Others came to power. Meanwhile, Juliet's deception is revealed back at the beach, but her and Jack's reactions are quite unexpected.

its a bit predictable and thats prob why it wont happen but Ben can never be trusted, especially if ur on for him...they are in a postion where the writers (if tehy ever start working again) can do what teh hell they want...great bit of writing up to this point and I think it will only get better

We will fondly remember Harry giving the S3 finale 5 stars, the astonishment that there was a flash forward...that people made it off the island, that someone we had met was dead in a funeral home where no one came to visit.

We will remember reviewing, disecting, and comiserating over ever minute detail of that episode. We will harken back to the days of PwnedByStallone, to the days when offput, Novaman, Vader, Lone Gunman, Maniq and others were our constant companions.

We shall evoke the memory of the Watchback...how it was mentioned, became a reality, was scheduled, rescheduled and rescheduled yet again for S1&2. We will recall births, job losses and job gains. We will remember how we discovered our own links between ourselves, not just our love of this show but our education, musical and other links...just like the people on the island.

We will reminisce about the long wait for S3...our Christmases and the next Watchback. We will remember the months we participated, remember the white screen, the anticipation of 10,000, the reaching thereof, and then...

We will remember the nothing...that it stopped...that we had reached the perfect score (as in bowling). That nothing ever accomplished by any other talkback would achieve anything more than we had acchieved. Because we came, we read, we studied, we discussed, we stayed mostly on topic, and we proved that given the right subject and the right set of people, TALKBACK WORKS!! 1 week from today we will all be moving to temporary quarters, filled with strangers, haters, clueless people, and we will see old and new friends.

So, my friends, as we close this chapter we look back. But we must also remember to look forward...for we know not what is to come.

I like how the issue of whether the Losties are dead or not was brought up by Cooper. And Naomi talks about the dead bodies found on the plane. My theory - Naomi works for Widmore, who knows flight 815 probably ended up on the island, so he fabricated the dead bodies showing up. And Cooper is really Cooper's clone - I'll bet the real Cooper is still in Florida. As may be the real Juliet and everyone else brought to the island.

Love watching Locke work his mental magic on Sawyer. Heck, just loved the episode overall! Bring on "The Man behind the Curtain!"

Just tonight, my wife, who is no real Lost fan and has not been joining me on the watchback, asked me "when is your Lost TV show returning?" And of course, I knew it was time to post the daily countdown!

If Ben is not the leader, and he says (indirectly) that we all answer to someone and he answers to Jacob, then who does Jacob answer to?

It’s funny. Locke call Ben the man behind the curtain, the wizard of oz...and basically he’s saying Ben knows it too since he was originally Henry Gale to all of us.

It’s also funny Locke calling him on it. Locke, the believer. Locke the easily conned. Yet he sees through Bens minutia. Interesting.

Okay, so Ben was sort of expecting the plane to crash (I get cancer and a surgeon falls out of the sky), but Naomi’s arrival was a complete surprise. And to everyone’s surprise, Locke announces he and Ben are off to see the real wizard. Tom and Richard’s expression at that moment was like “Waaaaaaaaa???” Ben covered well, Locke came back better. Patchy lives to get his ass kicked.

Ben has so lost control...hanging on by a thread. Alex giving Locke a gun, then Happy birthday dad. And it looks like he tries to get control back with the you don’t go see Jacob, he summons you thing.

Man, Ben’s dad. The day you killed your mom. Stuck here on this island with you. Happy birthday kid.

I asked the question earlier if D&C had ever said anyone other than the Losties were NOT dead. Ben’s mother told Ben it wasn’t time. Richard, upon hearing that, told Ben to go home. So again I postulate, suppose the hostiles are dead and found a portal back. The whispers are of those that can’t make it all the way back. That it’s not Ben’s time because it’s not time for his to die. So the losties are not dead, but the crash accidentally put them in a “dead place.” Even the I hate it there take me with you sounds like so many I wanna commit suicide you’re a ghost, you’re dead, I wanna be dead too speeches...like in Beetleguise.

And now Jacob. A creepy “We’re here.” “You sure this is what you want? So be it.” And inside...WHAT A FUCKING SCENE!! WOW!! I could watch that over and over and over again. It’s like something out of a horror flick. Maybe where you are trapped by the dead on a lost island.......

Ben was nothing more than a janitor. And he rose to a god amongst men. A man with the patience of Job. Because all those years he wanted dad gone, and he had to wait. And wait he did. And he killed his father. And he rose to power. And he lied and connived his way into that position. And he killed more...or at least tried to, to keep his position of power.

And instead he could have moved to DC.

You know, if you look at this show as a whole...see the big picture, it is very much like a horror flick. Monsters, death, unseen forces. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

For me, my thinking was who does not want to stay...or maybe even who does the island want to get rid of.

If you look at it the first way, Jin and Sun (mostly Sun) should not want to stay. Too much riding on the childbirth thing...if in fact the conception was on the island. Claire should not want to stay as Charlie's dead and she would want her baby to have a normal life. Des wants off to find Penny. Juliet wants back to her sister.

But if we look at it from wo does the island not want around anymore we might say Jack as he wants to fight it all the time. If I was the island I don't think I'd want Sayid around. And if the island is really about redemption, those who are not sorry for their sins, like Kate and maybe but maybe not Sawyer would have to go.

But if we go with the gets to leave/stay thing, then you'd earn your way on or off. I have to agree with node about Hurley. I'd also add Des and Juliet to that list. Twisting that to gets to stay, currently I'd say Locke and Ben. But we may find more have earned their way...on or off.

There's only three things I can think of. Eiher: smokie has far-reaching vision-creating abilites we aren't aware of; the sonic fence wasn't really turned on at the time; or we were initially misled into thinking that smokie is what actually causes the visions of dead folks. Boggles my mind, so many possibilities!

Looks like a lot of the main actors aren't doing the voices for their respective characters. It sounds like Jack is voiced by Steve Blum, I know that voice anywhere.

I'm kinda inbetween with this game. Exploring iconic environments from the show in a 3D space looks awesome, but some of the character models and acting seem kinda cheap. Guess we'll see though...

I would lose your Lost competition - I've only got S1, 2 and 3 on DVD, though I asked for some related things this Christmas. I was amazed at B+N bookstores how many books there about the TV show! Though pb, you should market your drawings somehow - err, if it's legal.

Speaking of legal, I don't know about you guys, but I'm recording all of the shows this season on my DVR. My recorder has a disc burner as well, so I'll make myself my own Season 4 DVD set at the end of the season. But I'll probably just end up buying the official thing when it comes out this next Christamas.

I'm a big fan of The Amazing Race, and it ticks me off how the show has been spoiled over the years. Some jerk always posts who wins somewhere they shouldn't! A few seasons ago, they were doing a story on the show in my local TV guide, and in the middle of the story the author suddenly writes "and speculation is high that so and so will win because the internet community say so." And yes, that team won. Took the fun out of it.

I cant say anything that has not already been said except for teh way Ben talks to Jacob....it is not in teh nature of a man going to see a great wise leader...ben shouts down at him, holds his chair, barks orders and comments at him......maybe Jacob does have alot of power but Ben has found a way to limit his powers so Ben can remain leader....this is teh most intriging aspect of Lost at teh minute for me...who or what is Jacob and where does he fit in with the Ilsand and its inhabitants...

he sends out lists to collect people, he is a wonderful man, but seemingly the only person who has seen or made contact with him is Ben....there is soo much to be explained concerning him...

our Losties are getting chased into teh jungle by men with guns, lots of men with guns...a gun battle is ensiung and someone made a remark that it was teh bloodiest battle yet..

the timing of this episode is teh end of season 4 whenever that is going to be....dont ask how I know it was just implied in the urgency and drama of the dream

anyho, we see sawyer and Jack and Kate all running and turning to shoot behind them...then the next minute we hear a scream and Kate falls to the ground....jack and sawyer turn and see her fallen, tehy start shootign and go towards her...a large OK Coral style gunfight breaks out with Jack, Kate and Saywer in teh middle of it....Jaxk and Sawyer drag Kate away from teh main fight and Jack rips open her shirt to reveal taht bra again and a bullet wound in her chest...she is losing consiousness and losing her breath...

Sawyer screams..'do something Doc, fix her'....Jack tries to stop teh bleeding but she is dying infront of teh two men who love her, sawyer breaks down in tears as she starts to fade...Jack can't save her and pulls all amnner of confused, sad and angry Jack faces......

they hear a rustling beside them and Locke jumps out and see's them all lying there...he looks at Kate and says; "how longs she been like that??"......."she was shot jus there now"replied Sawyer..."I mean how long she been dead??" Sawyer grabs Locke and screams "she cant die you son of a bitch, she cant die!!"...

"Give me her jack"..jack was cradling her head....."I can save her Jack, give me her"

....Jack looks up to Locke but doesnt let go...."Jack, before I was on the plane I was in a wheel chair and the Island healed me, then I was shot and left for dead and the Island healed me, give me Kate and I'll make sure the Island heals her...she's not too far gone".....

"Noo its too late" cried Jack, Locke pushes jack out of the way and shouts "give her to me, i'll save her, follow me and give me cover, were going to see Jacob.."

now a few pints..all this actually happened in teh dream...pretty fucking sweet eh..

also this is the exact reason why i'll never be a lost screen writer....

For me, that was a much better way to introduce N&P. At least they could have used that as a getting to know you scene.

I love how uncomfortable Claire is with Nikki. And that "off" for the most part then WHAM part might come into play later.

Man, the breaking rocks scene really does look like a runway, doesn't it? Then it's confirmed. But if Sawyer already knew what he was working on, why did he ask Juliet later?

The one with Ben and Alex to me looked like Ben was truthful...and hurt.

Super powers? The sky turns purple and Des sees the future. So maybe just maybe the hatch exploding gave everyone some new ability. Hmmmmm...

So when was the Charlie scene supposed to happen. And what does Kate mean just like old times, and good to see you again? Curious.

I absolutely loved the extra Hurley and the van scene. Pretty touching.
