when i saw I AM LEGEND last week, i saw that banner, and i assumed it was common knowledge the batman/superman movie poster was in the film. hmmm. who would i like to see direct? the MOST important thing, would be to get BRUCE TIMM to write the script. the script in a film, is the MOST important element. we have seen great directors churn out crap, because of a crap script. now yes, there is the special case, where the script was not so hot, but the director saved the film. but the better the script, the easier it is to direct. i think America is ready for ANDREW LAU the director of the original 'INTERNAL AFFAIRS [that they remade as THE DEPARTED] and A MAN CALLED HERO.' with a solid script, this guy can work wonders. and work wonders on a low budget. so bring on BATMAN vs SUPERMAN in 2010! and lets hope bruce timm can write it. (has anyone watched DOOMSDAY or the final 2 seasons of JLU? this guy hit his stride, he is ready for a big budget action flick now.)

Well this poster is a more than likely a fake just like the other posters in the Video Store. They had Fred Clause 2, Teen Titans, and the Green Lantern all on Posters for release at the Video Store. Does that mean that Warner Bros. is making all those movies? I think not, just means that they have great set desingners that want to get our hopes up.

We just need a director willing to realize that what was done in the comic is good enough for the big screen and doesn't need to be change but recreated ala Miller's work. I can't think of any director right now besides the obvious two that would do that. Mark A.Z. Dippé? Maybe he can improve?

Cuz she's such a shitty Lois Lane. Superouth flies to Gotham to get her back, and Bats beats on Routh with his kryptonite battle knuckles, then they make up and there's a four-way with Bosworth and Gyllenhall (or, possibly, a cameo by Tomkat).

Well, two things. First, AICM really needs to get its shit together. A slow news day is no excuse for reporting this sort of hackneyed excuse for web hits and thread count. Has AICN even bothered to report the hiring of Peter Berg to direct Dune? There is a slew of other little news nuggets out there that, while small and miniscule, still constitute news. What does this article do, again?

Also, I agree, there is much more to be done with Supe's character. The only problem is, the one story I enjoy from Superman Returns, the idea of Superman maturing into a father, is treated like some Dawson's Creek episode (yeah, I have children). Don't get me wrong, I do like that Supes is a father, and I'm even pretty comfortable with the choice of child actors (he will undoubtedly be recast, of course), I'm just not comfortable with the way this notion was immaturely expressed.

Superman Returns Had Lotsa Good Stuff

Could have been a decent movie except for the "truth, justice . . . all that stuff" line (come on, people, it's "The American Way"--make the president in the Superman movies a Clintonesque Democrat and get over it).

The other suck about Superman Returns (other than Kate Bosworth) was the frickin' Lex Luthor does giant real estate deal that will kill millions or billions? Again? Huh? Jeeze. I liked lots of stuff--TV's Jimmy Olson making a cameo, the guy who did the new Jimmy Olsen ws pitch perfect, got to see a lot of Supes powers in a very comic-booky way . . . all cool. If it had been Braniac or Doomsday with a plot for world domination rather than real estate, it might have been a gripping comic movie.

Oh, and lose the kid.

They can never make an Amazing Superman movie. He means too much to too many people, and his powers are still all way to awesome to put on film. Its easier to make Batman movies because (A) he is human and (B) he is the ultimate anti/reluctant hero. None of the Superman movies hold a candle to their conterpoint Batman movies. I mean Superman IV: The Quest for Peace and Batman and Robin are probably equal in awfulness.

Everyone knows Superman, Batman and their respective supporting casts, so I would love a Superman/Batman movie. It would make much more sense than a Justice League film. IIRC the Batman vs Superman script by Andrew Kevin Walker was reviewed favourably on this site. Wolfgang Peterson was a solid choice as director even though some of the rumoured casting choices scared me (Josh Hartnett as Supes!) Yes, it definitely should have Bale and Routh. The obvious director candidates would be Singer, Nolan, Burton or Peterson. As long as it's not Rob Cohen!

in everything but voice (if only they could get Kevin Conroy to dub him realistically)he would never be in a movie like this cos it really doesnt fit Nolans vibe....I think it wouldnt be too bad to cast older people-say maybe the film begins with Supes and Bats having been alienated for years (Bats fault of course for not allowing people to be close to him) and we have Brainiac arrive. Naturally Lex and Brainiac meet and team up, and the plan is for Brainiac to win over Superman's trust as his only linkage to Krypton, eventualy betraying Supes and infecting him, putting him under mind control, and using him to dominate Metropolis. This suddenly attracts Batman who investigates and battles superman, only to discover Brainiacs scheme and free Clark form the mind control-the two of them go to stop Brainiac but of course its too late, and Brainiac has pretty much taken over the world, with Lex his right hand man. Naturally no one is too happy so it looks like a job FOOOOR-BATMAN AND SUPERMAN!!!! And just cos I dont want kids playing the roles (as in JL) Im castng older-Keifer Sutherland for Batman, Kyle Mac Lachlan for Superman, Danny Huston for Lex (cold billionaire not camp git), Doug Jones for Brainiac (maybe John Malkovich voicing) and...Selma Blair for Lois? A little younger I know but I just always thought of her as Lois....

lex approaches bruce wayne for some business deals, assumes bruce is as morally bankrupt as himself.maybe bruce plays along to lure lex into something.

criminals in metropolis are using advanced gear that links back to waynetech.not weapons, but gadgetry. supes/clark kent goes to investigate.

while interviewing Wayne, a quick x-ray scan of the office reveals Bruce to be batman. Kent threatens to out bruce, fearing he's as corrupt as lex. Bruce slyly lets Kent know he already knows who he really is, and so the two are at stalemate. Bruce asks supes to trust him, that what he is doing will help put lex away.....blah blah blah, more uneasy teamwork as batman and superman work together to defeat whatever shit lex (and maybe joker?) are up to, meanwhile bruce has the evidence that links lex once and for all to the disasters/crime/killer robot/whatever.

bruce not only testifies against lex, but sullies his own rep a bit, lending credit to the fact that he can't possibly be batman. he is seen as a corporate dick that will rat out others to stay ahead. To further this, while bruce is in court (or maybe held for a short time) superman actually does deeds in batman garb, which could be pretty entertaining and build the public's mythos as to what batman can really do (flying, throwing cars, etc)

another idea, at the end, bruce/waynetech offers superman a lifetime supply of a drug that can help treat his halfbreed kid's disorders....even though his kid is really starting to show some more aggressive signs than his daddy..hmmm...sequel?

for this concept was not all that good and it did have all the elements you needed which included Lex teaming up with the Joker. It had Batman and Superman in a knock down drag out fight, only to finally team up in the end to take down Lex. It even had some nice demented stuff with the Joker and killing Bruce's wife, but in the end it still didn't work for many reasons. It was at least on the right track, so read that script and the Dark Knight Returns and you will have a pretty good ground floor to build off of. Oh and what up Kevinwillis. This villain, done right, would need Supes brawn and Bats brains to defeat. It should be total over the top world destruction stuff. Also, Superman Returns had problems, but the thing I liked was that Superman actually seemed alien and a bit aloof. The more Superman/Clark learns about his past, the more he should feel distanced from humanity. It doesn't make any sense for Superman to just be an eternal boy scout.

No way could Brandon Routh play opposite Christian Bale- Bale is just too powerful an actor. And a movie about these two characters has to reflect their relationship-mutual respect tempered by very different, but equally strong, world views. So Superman has to be convincing standing up to Batman, and Routh is just a bit too much of a weenie. Still hoping for David Boreanaz Superman. Or a new unknown with a little bit more of a forceful personality.

First of all, it can't be done while there are successful individual franchises going on. Too much cognitive dissonance for the audience. ("On Her Majesty's Secret Service" tanked at the box office, despite having an excellent story, simply because no one could believe that this other guy was Bond.) So at minimum, WB would have to wait until two years after the last Nolan/Bale Batman movie and the last Singer/Routh Superman movie are released. Preferably a bit longer.

My guess would be that both franchises will muster three successful films before hanging up the proverbial boots -- three is the magic number, these days. The third Batman flick should hit in 2011 and the third Superman in 2012, so 2015 for a Batman/Superman seems about right.

At that point, people will be a bit tired of both franchises but intrigued by the idea of a crossover, which could launch a franchise of its own or set the stage for a relaunch of either or both individual series. Timeline-wise, we've been inundated with origin stories and young heroes lately, so it would be much more interesting to revisit these characters later in life. Not septuagenarian-late, but definitely late-middle-age. Casting for 2015, I'd try Viggo Mortensen as Batman and Vincent D'Onofrio as Superman (he'd have to lose some weight for the role, I grant you). Get someone to write a mature script that has plenty of action but also takes the time and space to address the concept of aging iconography. Make the thinking man's superhero movie that The Hulk failed miserably at being. And get Ridley Scott to direct the shit out of it. I think that'd be pretty good.
Just make them older and enemies.

Superman is exposed to black kyrptonite by president Lex Luthor.

Batman is old and long since a wanted fugitive who has become a recluse living off the grid.

Superman is erratic and mentally unstable due to the black kryptonite.
They fight and batman traps superman in the phantom zone.

Superman: Dennis Quaid Batman: Bruce Willis Lex Luthor: Terry O'Quinn

Pick up the Book "Mythology" by Chip Kidd and Goeff Spear. It's an ode to Alex Ross and his works up until a few years ago. The book has an exclusive short story that includes using Robin running tactical from a static location and Batman tracking Superman as he appears to have gone bad. The story ends with Brainiac being the controlling factor in Superman going ballistic. It's only a few pages long, but I always wondered how cool that sequence would look on screen, especially in a team-up movie. Perhaps as an opening sequence?

would be a very bad idea. The premise didn't work in AVP or Freddy vs. Jason. On their own both these characters are too iconic to put in the same movie and give them both a just storyline that gives them each fair character development. Although it would be cool to see Bale's Batman teamup with Routh's Superman, I just don't see it happening. Besides once both of those franchises are ended I'm sure Christian Bale and Brandon Routh will want to move on to something else, Bale only has one more film to go.

would be great to see. I really enjoyed Brandon Routh's portrayal of Superman. I think he really nailed the role. I think the only way to make another Superman movie would be to do what they're doing with the Hulk movie and completely negate what happened in Superman Returns. Because let's face it, that movie was godawful, if I wanted to see Richard Donner's Superman: The Movie than I would've rented it. Oh and get someone besides Bryan Singer to make it as well, nothing against the guy I enjoyed all his movies until that one, but we need someone who wants to give their own take on the Superman mythology. Not some guy that wants to kiss Richard Donner's ass with a remake.

Just because it showed up on a billboard in a movie set in the future does not mean its gonna get made or even survive that long. Look at the ad below it...from AMD. AMD ain't gonna be around in 2009 at the rate they are going. There's a better chance of Atari making a big comeback in time for its giant ad in *Blade Runner* taking place in 2019 still being relevant. I say the only way a *Batman*/*Superman* film gets made is if the WB takes Supes away from what's his face and gives the franchise to Chris Nolan to do side-by-side with Bats. Bryan Singer is no Chris Nolan; hell, he's barely better than JJ Abrams. And no way is Brandon Routh going to be Supes again if anyone at the WB has half a brain committed to the project. And for Zoroaster's sake, have Mr. T throw (H)A(c)k-iva Goldsman helluvua far away from the WB lot as soon as possible! Like Michael Jackson around little boys, Akiva should stay far far away from a computer loaded with Final Draft.

It's called "World's Finest," and yes, it was done by the folks behind the Batman and Superman animated series. If you absolutely MUST make such a film, heavily borrow from or outright adapt "World's Finest." Do it with mo-cap and get Tim Daley for the voice of Superman and Kevin Conroy as The Batman. And base the character designs on the work of Alex Ross. It would be like printing money. Sadly, instead, a shitty movie with barely legal lookin actors will be made, sans any real story or conflict. Lex cons the Joker into creating a massive diversion for him in Metroplis with the help of his clown army and a promise that it would draw Bats into unfamiliar territory where he could be nabbed with Lex's help. Lex having some grander scheme to gain some sort of power/technology/typical Lex motivation, wants to keep Superman occupied with the Joker's minions. In the mean time, Bats figures Superman's secret identity while Bats doesn't even try to disguise his (xray vision and all) and has in his possession a hunk of kryptonite which he uses to keep Supes at bay. In some sort of power struggle, Bats tries to use Lois and the SuperBastardBoy as leverage to get Supes to do things his way. Kent charges at him, Bruce hits him with a diluted Krypto-dart, knocking him down to human levels, and they duke it out for a bit, with Bats continuing the barrage of poisoned darts, until something happens to make them put aside their differences and get back on the same page. Kevin Smith directs, infusing a bit of humor \ comic book geekboy perspective. Joker and Lex are about to get caught, Lex turns it all on the Joker, back to Arkham with him, Lex gets off scott free.

One of those guys who think that only a certain select elite are only worthwhile and truly contribute to the world, and the rest of humanity is best to get out of the way and NEVER try to censor or place limitations or anything on them. Think about it: Superheroes are perfect and how DARE any of us ants worry about things like fair play or collateral damage? Or Remy the rat wants Linguini to take credit for his work, but this eventually becomes unacceptable to him. "Anyone can cook" indeed. The movie repeatedly knocks home that Linguini cannot now nor can he ever cook and his only way to contribute to the kitchen is to enable Remy. Hrrmph. Bird aint that great.

Look, I love the Timm-Animated series too. Best adaptation of DC we'll probably ever get. (So good that many have seriously wondered this it's actually BETTER than the material it's adapting from, which is a true rarity.)

But honestly. This "Use the actor who played the role in animation to play the role in live action" is not NEARLY as good an idea as many think it is. Mark Hamill OWNS the Joker in animation but would SUCK if he had to play the Joker in live action. Kevin Conroy will NEVER be able to play a live action Batman. Let's just let it go.

I mean, I dont mind that to an extent(I for one always loved what they are doing with Ledgers Joker) but from Ive heard Year One would have been barely recognisible as Batman....but,luckily we got Nolan instead....Im not so much for a Bat/supes flick, but I reckon we need a Hulk styled rehaul of Singers film-I didnt think it was TERRIBLE but he didnt leave me dieing for a sequel featuring super kid and campy Spacey hacking off hackman. Revamp the whole deal (keep the score if you must) and for the love of God get Brainiac as the bad guy-Doug Jones and Malkovich are waiting fellas!

Honestly, something like a team-up of Batman/Superman caliber should be held off until they manage to wreck both franchises once again (unless you're like me, and believe that Singer already wrecked Supes, the same way Ang Lee wrecked Hulk) and use the gimmick as a way to pull people back into the theater to see these characters again. But...if the planets were aligned and Brad Bird agreed to do something like this, then I'd be in full support. They're both relatively cheap to come by actors and the movie will do well regardless, so do it already. It can be a team up then they can do two separate movies and then team up to tie up the modified trilogy. So, a Pt1, Pt2A and Pt2B (come out within weeks of each other), and then a PT3. That way the studio gets its franchise moola and the fans get enough meat to savor for the next six years or so.

Not sure if anyone else noticed this, but in the video shop there is a big "Teen Titans" poster behind the main counter. Also, any movie pairing the two should follow a World's Finest story while ensuring Routh is never allowed near the role of Superman again. first of all, this has been all over the net for months. second of all, they don't even know why this was put in the movie. akiva goldsman. he produced 'i am legend'. and, was attached to produced 'batman vs. superman'. he created all the posters for 'i am legend'. and, thought it would be cool. third, aside from having almost ZERO new news this site has devolved into a ludicrous snark fest. when they're not acting like children about some filmmaker they hate, they're putting out items like this that have been around for weeks. i used to love to visit this site, but it's becoming a place i hate. i mean, harry sat there and hyped 'fantastic four 2' with a straight face. it's like a cancer that's spreading all over the web. no substance. no respect.

superman would win. i love the batman character a bit more than the superman character, but c'mon. superman can turn back time by flying around the world faster than the speed of light. and, why would they fight to begin with? any situation they created to pit them in battle would be ludicrous. and finally, i still don't understand why lex luthor is superman's greatest enemy. the man can look through walls, and smash buildings with his breath. what can luthor do besides be a dick? i do understand him as the enemy in the smallville series. but, once superman becomes SUPERMAN it seems dumb that he doesn't just smash him.

The Fountain, on the other hand, was ridiculous. Some neat visual stuff, sure, but so navel-gazingly over-the-top sappy, new agey, emo, corny, as to be, more often than not, hilariously, cringe-inducingly awful. No wonder Pitt and Blanchett walked off it.

Oh, and definitely Shatner as Batman whoever suggested that.

1) Brandon Routh - 6'3" , 28yrs

Great look, handsome. Some comedic timing, not enough screentime as Kent to tell for sure. Lacked authority in the role, seemed moody. Didn't smile like Reeves, not as friendly and approachable (George Reeves seemed a genuine fella.)

2) Tom Welling - 6'3" , 30yrs

Established a fan base as Clark Kent on a slightly campy, but nonetheless popular tv show. Charming, witty, earnest. Demonstrated a wide range of emotion on tv, but little to no presence on film thus far. Never been seen in a costume, and yet is known as "Superman" to entire generation. Ladies choice.

Routh vs Welling

Nobody heard of Chris Reeves before Superman. Same with Routh. But where Reeves was able to define an iconic character around a great acion adventure, Routh ws forced to deal with a moody, mature themed would be masterpiece. If only there were more action, more wit, and more adventure in SR, Routh might have had the opportunity to shine. Sadly, we may never know if BJ has the right stuff, or if he was just some tall kid who got lucky.

Tom Welling and George Reeves both have the honor of building successful tv careers around lighthearted, campy, kid shows. A feat like that is an exercise of pure charm. While George never had the chance to make a big-budget hollywood feature, many true Superman fans would have loved to have seen it. Welling has done film, but nothing near the action, adventure genre.

As a fan of comics and film, I would love for Routh to be in a better film. I would also like to see Welling as the man in the suit. Welling or Routh. I don't want to see anyone else in the ring.

They are both fucking Abercrombie models who lucked into sucking the dick of some Hollywood queens, and can play an emotionless cardboard cutout character. Barely. They would be better off casting a wet dog in the role. It would be more interesting to look at. Superman is a fucking lame project. Let it die. You right to lifers need to understand that its the machine keeping the franchise alive, not gods will. KILL IT. The producers of this unwilling, non consenting, long passed its used by date brand are like the mothers who strut out their 10 year old harlots and childrens beauty pageants. Its an ugly job, but someone needs to pull a Jon Benet on this endless parade of douce bags in blue underwear series and admit that only basement dwelling r tards and homosexuals have any interest in this dated, retarded concept. Superman Vs Batman = Justice League of America

05:46:56 AM
Here is a little more fleshing out of what my Superman Vs Batman universe would look like, it would be an "Ultimates" type of universe and a perfect way to introduce the JLA to film.

1. Supes and Bats are older as i otherwise established.
Bats is in his mind 50's and Supes is in his mid 70's but looks like he is in his mid 40's due to aging slower than humans.

2. Bats has had to continue upgrading his technical knowledge as well as push the limits of the human body in order to keep his edge.
Not only does he train, but he also subjects himself to experimental treatments made by his scientists that allow him to better withstand pain, allow him to slow the normal effects of aging on his muscle/bone structure, he is also even more realiant on technology than ever.

3. Batman views Superman with some level of contempt.
May even be a bit of xenophobia, or he probably just thinks that if he had the abilities of Superman that he could put them to far better use... the truth is a combination of both. He has a natural distrust for anyone with that much power.

4. Superman is the first public costumed superhero in this continuity.
Batman being the second coming a couple of decades later.
At least those known to the general population.
Most (but not all) later metahumans are a result of Kryptonite that fell to earth along with the infant Superman, this Kryptonite rock has been releasing and co-mingling its chemical substances into our soil and groundwater over the decades.

5. Batman has been monitoring the Kryptonite phenomenom and also tracking those he considers to be "persons of interest", namely keeping dosssiers on people who have developed metahuman powers of some kind... he is a detective after all.
The Brother Eye supercomputer/satellite system is developed for this purpose.
It also stores all the data generated from the different metahumans, as well as data captured by a Batman infiltration of a LexCorp laboratory working with kryptonite. Batman recovered a few pieces of Kryptonite, vials of a substance labled "liquid kryptonite", and documentation regarding a third form of Kryptonite "Black Kryptonite".

6. Superman has been exposed to the Black Kryptonite.
It causes Kryptonians to becoming increasingly Bi-Polar with severe manic and depressive states.

7. When Superman kills one of his enemies instead of just putting him in jail... Batman is alerted his old friend (and only person that knows how to reach him) Gordon of whats going on, it isnt enough to get Batman to care as he just assumes Superman finally got tired of being a boy scout and is doing what he should have done a long time ago. Kill his villain enemies.
. First he kills Parasite, followed by the mercenary Deadshot, then child molester Toyman, and finally Selina Kyle... Catwoman.
That gets Batmans attention.

8. Batman uses the Brother Eye to find and recruit Green Arrow, Green Lantern, the Flash, Black Canary, and Wonder Woman.

9. Batman ends up mortally wounding Superman with the help of the other heroes (and the kryptonite)... but Martian Manhunter arrives without warning during that final point in the battle and convinces Batman not to kill Superman. Instead he imprisons the severely weakened and emotionally unstabble Supes in the Phantom Zone.

10. Supermans son decides to put on his fathers costume.

If there is a sequel to JLA the son of Superman is invited to join the team as the new Superman.
This forms a new JLA team with Green Lantern, Flash and WonderWoman casted by young actors who can then go on and star in their own seperate movies, this JLA movie serving as their introduction and part of their origins story.
Green Arrow and Martian Manhunter can be a little older, maybe in their 30's or so.
Batman of course is older 50's and the stoic leader of the team.
The team has a reason to exist, one that ties them all together with Batman as their leader.

Batman: Bruce Willis
Superman: Josh Brolin
Green Arrow: Skeet Ulrich
WonderWoman: Morena Baccarin
Green Lantern: Chiwetel Ejiofor (or Eion Bailey if white)
Flash: Ryan Reynolds
Martian Manhunter: Doug Jones
Black Canary: Katee Sackhoff
President Lex Luthor: Terry O'Quinn
Superman Jr: Tom Welling

Villains in the sequel...

Maxwell Lord: Mel Gibson
Talia al-Ghul: Sarah Shahi

Villains in the last film of the trilogy...

Darkseid: Vin Diesel
Lobo: Jason Momoa

If a Batman/superman movie came out, it would just be a vehicle to sell toys. It would presumably feature Batman and superman using some alien object to combine into...SUPERBATMAN, the Dark Knight of Steel who is faster than a speeding bullet, which he hates because he despises guns. Failing that, it would have Batman and superman learning something from each other, so Batman's public relations would improve and he'd get a fruitier costume, and Superman would learn how to scowl a lot and invent gadgets.
