Shoot 'Em Up - the movie that finally got me to say, "okay, I've had enough of these movies that are good because they are "mindless fun"." I'm not buying it anymore. And "War" can suck my balls because Jason Statham is a shit actor who makes shitty movies. Seriously, every character is exactly the same and he has absolutely NO flair for dialog.

Trying to remember if I really saw this or not and if anyone can confirm if this happened that'd be wonderful. During the first boardroom scene, there are holographic projections of the board members and they each have a glass of water sitting in front of them which stays there after they disappear with their meeting ending. So am I willing to believe that someone took the time to pour all these glasses of water for people who aren't even there? Just weird.

I usually think those films that just claimed that they weren't supposed to have any redeeming qualities other than absurdity are really shitty but Shoot Em Up was a lot of fun for me. I think I just really loved that cast too. Sure Monica did some really poor acting but if you're gonna have a gal to salivate over she's the one I would pick, no question. Also, Giamatti's reaction to the fake broken baby was hilarious. I laughed til I cried.

Highly recommended not only for the great episodes but the nostalgia factor. It takes you right back to simpler times back to the early days of mtv when they played music videos, back when fx weren't so easy in movies so the film makers had to be smart and creative like real artists... back when disney movies didn't really suck as bad really.... If it's not a classic now it will be some day.

Which is among the worst of my bottom five movies for this year. It's obvious that Anderson ran out of ideas, when the scenes are reminicent of The Birds, Day of the Dead and especially the Road Warrior. Not to mention the Zombie making a call on a Sony Erricson phone (product placement)and still no Chris Redfield. As for Shoot em up, it had potentual during the first 10 minutes but the story turned to shit not even Giammati or Belucci couldn't save it, at least Smoking Aces had more of a plot. *Pfft* War was good mostly due to the plot twist involving jet lee's character. Ending however, was rushed.

Remember when Smith killed somebody with a carrot the SECOND time? Out of ideas already, filmmakers? It rarely exhibited the fun looney-tunes energy that it needed to sustain something so ridiculous. It had the right idea, but there were far too few moments like the one where we see the bodies littered around the scenery after the plane/skydiving fight, and far too many moments where the "creative" part is just an impossible stunt + lots of gunfire. Hyperbolic action can have a lot of value, but mindless action just satisfies the mindless.

It felt like there were no rehersals, one draft of a script, and no thought given to staging action sequences and shot composition, yet they get a pretty decent cast of B listers to carry this thing and the basic idea for the story is pretty good. The dialogue is pretty boring and Statham and Li don't bring the level of charisma that I thought they just naturally brought to everything. They both seem kinda tired or something. I think they should've spent more time on this movie, there was something better in there.

Dec 30th, 2007
09:32:17 PM
Hasn't been cool since those awesome BMW commercials. He was ok in Sin City, luckily they didn't try to make a whole movie about his story. Also was it me or did anyone else think that Shoot'em Up was like a dumbed down version of Children of Men? Saving the baby and everything? Also its funny that War and Shoot'em Up come to DVD on the same day, because Shoot'em up obviously was made with Statham in mind. Say what you want about Stayham at least he can fight. Clive Owen can only fight when quick cuts are used to show that he can't. Plus that whole scene with him and Irreversible and the ole in and out, was blah. 2007 should go down as the year of hype, so much initial praise for movies that don't really deliver and Shoot'em Up was the worst of them (toss up between it and Knocked up). Shoot'em up wins because it was not a huge success. Walk Hard seems to be in the same category but I've yet to see it. Hopefully TWBB is actually good, I have faith in the director of Mortal Kombat....FIGHT!

Hey RP Fans, listen up...

We're tired of you zombies bombing every message board, every forum, every YouTube video, everything online...it's not welcome and frankly it's getting a little silly.

We get it - you love RP and you think he's the bees knees, fine. But what about everyone else who would rather 'choose' not to be inundated with your constant harassment? Aren't you the very people who stress personal liberty and freedoms? How about our right not to have to see all this RP SHIT sprayed all over the place? You think you're our protectors? You know what's best for us? Oh come on...

You're backing a candidate who, despite your best efforts to harass every single person online and falsify every online poll, just can't get the support you think he should have. Why is that? Because the polls are skewed? Who are you to talk, because you've manipulated every single one all year long.

Plus, all this talk of changing Washington and eradicating government waste? Sorry to say, but the President can't do that - Congress does. Guess what? Paul's been in Congress over 20+ years and he ain't got SHIT done. How can you expect a person who's not respected in his own party, ineffective at his own job, and by every conventional means incapable of not talking down to people to get anything done?

Funny how most Paul supporters are made up of 9-11 Truthers, anti-tax libertarians and other anti-government groups. Plus, they'll name their fund raiser efforts after Guy Fawkes Day with colorful names like "Bomb Day" - glorify other terrorists, you freaky fucks. Sadly, most of their knowledge comes from either the internet or movies themselves, so you can't blame them for being paranoid.

Nobody cares about RP guys, sorry to tell you that. All you're doing is pissing off people and turning them off even more to your cause. These message boards are NOT your personal property to defame and troll in, and frankly it's about time you split. RP doesn't even care about you, as when he loses the primary next month he'll disappear back into his comfy cove with the millions you foolishly gave him. Is he still a Republican of convienance this time? Because heaven knowns running as a libertarian wouldn't allow him time on TV to raise all that money. Good luck, and if Head Geek is reading this, please eliminate these psychos from this site - we would surely love to go back to talking about MOVIES again.

I think Shoot Em Up was more of an homage to the Hong Kong action flick Hard Boiled. Specifically, the scene near the end where Chow Yun Fat saves a baby while blasting at all kinds of baddies. It's good stuff. If you haven't checked it out yet you should. And I thought Clive Owen was pretty cool in Sin City. Any dude mackin on Rosario Dawson while sporting the Chuck Taylors and a pair of berettas has my respect. And Children of Men was one of the best films last year.

Good taste isn’t as subjective as everyone makes it out to be. There are in fact bad movies, plain and simple. Shoot Em Up was dogshit on every level - and I had low expectations. Easily one of the worst movies I saw this year (along with AvP-R). I fear for our collected movie going tastes sometimes. Or maybe I’m an ignorant asshole. I don’t even know anymore.

I can only assume it's the nostalgia talking when people say that the movie was better.

The series was just better: better written, better cast and (given the central conceit) very clever. This is a great way to start the new year. Now if only we can get the other half of the 'weirdest hour on television' on DVD, this would be a awesome year. In other words, where the Christ is "Duckman"?!

And as for SHOOT 'EM UP, anyone expecting anything other than the title needs to pull the stick out of their ass before it does permanent damage.

of mindless action movies. Not a midless action movie itself. First clue IT'S CALLED SHOOT 'EM UP. Guess what Scary Movie wasn't slasher flick, Epic movie wasn't an epic. Just because the Waynes's Brother arent i the credits people somehow mised that this was a send up. Apprently the imitation hit so close to the mark that people actually thought the movie that in the first ten minutes had an ubilical cord cut by a bullet and a sign sotup to read FUCK U--FUCK U TOO, was a serious attempt to make an action movie, that accidently stumbled into unintentional hilarity. The ridiculous orgins stories, the mid-coitus shoot out. The carrots. GUN CONTROL...They were supposed to be funny. Do you people need a laugh track here? Did you watch Airplanre thinking, I really think this starting to get unrealistic. And I don't feel the passengers are in any rel jeapordy. ore if they are I'm not connecting emotionally. I don't think that Shoot is a direct parody, like the Scary series, et all. I remember Roger Ebert once defending the ridiculousness of Silver Bullet, stating that it had to be a parody of a werewolf movie. I think the director just watched Smokin Aces, Hard Bolied, and whatever gunplay movie has come out recently and said, "I can do that, but I'll crank it up to 11!". So if you toss out any logic and plot (the whole political angle, made no sense) and take it for the human cartoon he meant it to be, its alright. Not great but alright.

First off to CherryValance, there was no ghost named "Clive" in Pac-Man; you are thinking of "Clyde". I don't care what people say, I loved *Shoot 'Em Up* and I will definitely be buying it on Blu-ray because if there is one actress that deserves to be totally in HD, it is Monica Bellucci. I want a BD release of *Brotherhood of the Wolf* and pronto. Same goes for *Malena*. As for *War*, that might interest "some" people due to it being one of the first titles to support BD Profile 1.1, meaning it has PiP commentary that the HD DVD fanbois rave about. Personally, I'd bet that that particular type of feature will be better on the upcoming release of *Sunshine* but that's my opinion. The other thing to think about while watching *Shoot 'Em Up* is the thought about Giamatti being up for the role of The Penguin - as an arms dealer - in a future sequel to *The Dark Knight*...

and too many for me to think that hey weren't suppossed to be there. It just seemed that all the ridiculousness was intentional. Maybe not Wayne's Brothers/Leslie Nielsen streatchy fingers obvious but defitely intentional. And bandaging his fingers to look like Bugs Bunny hands was a nice touch. And it's true I'd read some reviews so I went in with an idea of what to expect. All I can say is I went in thinking comdey and from start t finish I hadn't laughed so hard since Hot Fuzz.

I saw this movie (against my will) with My girlfriend b/c she loves Edward Furlong. I was surprised on how good this movie actually is. Super intense and weird, lots of tits and violence. I thought this movie would totally suck but I found myself hooked after the first ten minutes.

"Shoot 'Em Up" was fucking awesome!! It never took itself seriously and delivered ridiculous, bullet-filled orgasms in every fight and shootout.

Seriously, when a movie has a skydiving-double-fisted-gun-bl asting shootout WITH AC/DC PLAYING UNDER IT, you're having a good time . . . PERIOD.

BTW I used to post here as Trader Groucho 2, and I pointed out the better HD strategy months ago, and I stand by it with a twist.

LG and Netflix have struck a VOD deal whereby LG makes the set-top box and Netflix provides the VOD service. Speculation right now is LG's going to bundle the Netflix VOD capability into their Blu-Ray/HD-DVD combo player. A wise move indeed.

Warner just announced they are going Blu-ray exclusive. That means the only studio locked into HD DVD is Paramount for 15 more months. Expect to hear announcements from Universal about Blu-ray titles at CES next week since HD DVD as a format is now dead.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. WB going blu-ray is pretty damn major, but it doesn't necessarily mean the end for HD-DVD. What I don't understand is why WB made an announcement today, 2 days before they were already scheduled to make an announcement on the subject: why not just wait until Sunday at the CES, as scheduled? It just seems a little hinky to me, is all. BTW, I just finished watching the new Blade Runner set in HD and it is frickin' SWEET! The docos are fantastic and exhaustively detailed and the film looks absolutely incredible. Well, at least I'll have that to watch on HD-DVD...(still no plans to buy a blu-ray player at all right now, though. I MIGHT buy a PS3 sometime in the far future when prices go even lower and the victor is truly declared) Looks like I'll be watching standard-def DVD's upconverted to HD for a while...;-)

I wrote a longer headline than this page allows, so it got cut off.

Warners went exclusively with Blu-Ray. The players have come way down in price.

Right now the LG combo player with Netflix VOD is supposed to retail for $800, but the market is still settling so I'm guessing that could come down significantly.

Indie Sex is a crap doco...

...Very boring collection of talking heads, most from a decidedly liberal female empowerment point of view talking up their own "cutting edge" contributions (none of which are particularly cutting edge), and not doing so very interestingly either. It's also incredibly coy for a film called "indie sex", with 90% of the clips of the sex scenes showcased and talked about here cut away before any actual nudity or explicitness or rawness from said scenes are shown to underline the points being made or things being talked about. It pretty much undermines the doco's claims of brave and uncompromising cinema when the doco itself chooses to not face these scenes but instead 'looks away' by cutting before anything "offensive" is shown. There's the makings of an interesting doco in this subject, but this sure as shit aint it, sad to say.

Was a funny spoof , a big ridiculous fun time - think it rubs some people the wrong way as it hammers on the exagerrated "coolness" that fanboys rave about in other movies. WAR : cant pay me to see a Jet Li movie, sorry. ALso that bald headed Brit dude has no talet, so aside from the AWESOME Brian Tyler score, nothing to recommend it.

These "reviews" and "recommendations" are further proof of your utter inability to communicate using the written word. Go back to sucking JJ Abrams' cock and STFU.
