Sounds like a big rip off of that stephen king book, cell or something. Of course, who knows where king ripped THAT off of...

of Cell by Stephen King. That's some lazy film making. So it's a "triptych" or whatever the fuck you want to call it. It's a rip off. How super lame can you get? And the poster's horrible, too. Where's the whalemanpiglice to bite the head off the Ambercrombie & Fitch models when you need him?

I thought this movie died. I remember hearing about it forever ago and seeing a trailer. Then I saw one again recently on a DVD and I was like alright its coming to DVD soon. Now even better its gonna come out in probably 4 theaters, and none of them near me. So I'll have to wait even longer for it to be out on DVD. Pain in the ass.

I like the folksy charm of Harry's semi-literate writing as much as the next guy, but this sentence is really like nails on a chalkboard to me, as a former english teacher:

"As the year is beginning to wrap up and we hear at AICN are pulling together our lists a film that I'm considering seriously putting high in my top ten of 2007 is THE SIGNAL."

It's got misplaced words, misspelled words, incorrect grammar, missing punctuation...it's got it all!

in fact, it's so poorly written, that it's entertaining in and of itself, and so I think in that sense, it's a success. it's like The Rock!

So, when did the Signal begin production?

I caught this yesterday and at SXSW and it really is terrffic. Also as far as the whole it being a rip off of The Cell, this movie wrapped production before Cell was released.

The Signal concept was formed around fall 2005 (http://lindaburnssundance.blo gspot.com/2007/01/ive-landed-i n-park-cityhot-damn.html) and The Cell by King was published January 06. So, there you go.

horror movies of the past decade. really good. saw this at SXSW and it did not suck. it's not perfect. the ending ruffles a few feathers, but there aren't very many lame "fake" scares, the characters are awesome and are entangled in the action...it's great.

It shouldn't really matter if a film's premise...
by Cameron1

is similar to something else. There's very very little original material around and just because something is original doesn't make it good or more worthy than something archetypal. If the film has good acting, scary bits and is visually dynamic that's really all that should matter.
Snakes on a Plane

VIETNAMESE airport officials discovered a cargo of 700 live snakes on a Thai Airways flight from Indonesia but destroyed them after no one claimed them. "The snakes were alive when they were found in the cargo," a quarantine officer at Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport said. "Seven hundred snakes were later destroyed when no one claimed ownership." The reptiles were found on December 19 in a container that arrived on flight TG 682 from Indonesia. Accompanying paperwork identified the content as "live fish", the state-run Vietnam News Agency said. Sorry, just wanted to share that. But see, truth can be stranger than fiction, maybe one day our mobile phones *could* try to kill us.

Good story, with plenty of gore and humor. I remember some pretty cool overhead shots of chaos in city streets below (which is a pretty amazing feat for a film of this budget).

I liked it quite a bit, but one criticism may be that the film is uneven. There are 3 sub-sections to the movie, each done by a different director. The sections are separate; they do not overlap at all. They use the same actors in each, but the style and tone of each section is different: 1) the first part develops the "signal" and what it does to people (basically makes them uninhibited and very violent/pissed-off). This part is a traditional zombie/disaster story, 2) the second section occurs completely in an apartment. Humorous tone, as a yuppie couple are in complete denial about the disaster going on outside. Despite all the weird shit happening they continue to put on their New Year's party. This part was more Shaun of the Dead, I thought, and 3) The last section was a more serious/bleak part; don't want to give away any spoilers but it was more 28 days later in feel.

So basically it was a zombie/ disaster film in three parts, each fairly different from the others. If people are ok with the potpourri style, it does have some great part, but the three sections do not add up to a coherent/synergistic whole. No doubt folks will have a favorite/least favorite section depending on their taste in movies.

Saw this a week and a half ago at a premiere. The storyline sucks, the bits of comedy are awkward and misplaced and the ending leaves you completely clueless. A lame ripoff of 28 days later (which I liked a lot)- especially the bleak grainy action scenes and the music choices. See it if you want, but I really thought it sucked and I'm a huge fan of zombie/horror movies.
