Lost is the best show on TV. It's had tough patches but its mythology is expansive enough to still keep it intersting til now. I have a dream. That dream is to ignore the show for the next 3 years and then buy all the remaining 48 episodes and watch them back to back for 2 days. I have that dream. But that dream would be stupid as someone would almost certainly reveal the island's secret to me by then. So that means I have to play this stupid waiting game episode-to-episode, season-to-season.

Journeyman was really just beginning what you could see would have become a very intricate Lost-like arc but it never really got the chance to get there. Just enough to give you a glimpse of where it was going, which is all the more annoying. I'm torn about Lost coming back, I like the concept, but this idea of stretching 2 seasons worth of great story out over 5 years of mediocracy highlighted with bits of brilliance to make a buck really just pisses me off. sigh... I'll still be watching tho... fammit!

This is something I ought to probably discuss carefully but I am pissed off and I just smoked some strange weed with Bill Maher's lawyer so here goes. The reason LOST was pushed back was twofold: Some part of it that I don't understand is that addvertising rates will be far higher because of the change of some law, or policy, or some shit. It starts in 2008 so the idea was that it wouldn't hurt to be past that change when airing starts. But the real reason was a uniform need to cash in on success. Actors, the main producers and directors (Not J.J. Abrams, who by the way none of this is about, it's the other day-to-day group on LOST that really fucked this up) were wanting to do other projects, jump start other series, basically just accomplish as much as they could before the show goes sour (there's some veterans behind the scenes of this show who know success seldom comes this way, and they are going to squeeze all they can out of this.) So here is why I am pissed: They knew the strike was coming, everyone knew essentially it was an inevitability, that it would lost, none of this is a surprise to Hollywood. So the decision to push LOST back was made knowing full well that it could end up in this position. I believe that the people behind LOST realized when they negotiated this season that this little hiccup would happen, and they accepted it. I know for a fact that they talked about doing a mini season early on, and a second season later. The mini season would have only featured a handful of the LOST cast for the most part. This did not happen, and I now think it impacted how the season ended, and the plans for this season (which I understand will rival the last season of Rosanne in terms of surreality -- except it's not a dream.) I think these fuckers knew the show was at a point where everyone needed to know -- they were the X-Files when people were just starting to actually give a shit who the Cigarette Smoking Man was. And so they said, you go do your projects, we'll start late, and we'll end early because of the strike -- and you'll get all that much more time to act in a movie or direct an independent film or make a perfume while the iron is hot. And now they won't be coming back for ANOTHER year -- you will not see another episode of LOST after these 8 until 2009, or at the very earliest November 2008. What pisses me off is that this is exactly as lame as it seems, apparently. If what I have heard is right, they knew this was coming and they embraced it rather than tried to find a way to do something more satisfying. They are hedging their bets that w4e will give a shit for TWO ENTIRE YEARS, essentially. So don't blame the writers for the strike, or for LOST not being on. The makers knew what they were doing and did it for their own reasons. The writers would be right there grinding out this show -- or would have been much earlier -- if they had been asked. And ABC, fuck you for knowingly cockteasing us to make money. You'v put a major damper on what should be one of the great communal television experiences of our time for no good damn reason.

I want whatever yer smoking, dude. Sure...TPTB at Lost had an idea an extended strike could put a huge wrinkle in the 2008 season...Every show had to deal with that possiblity of the strike's effect. What could they do? They can't make the episodes any faster than they already are. They got 8 done...hoping the negotiations would not break down. They did...and now they just have to wait....just like every show on TV. There was no "plan". Every key actor on Lost has been locked up air tight until Lost is completely OVER. They can't wander of and leave the show without breaking a very costly contract. Michael Emerson hoped to do a play on Broadway after wrapping Season 4....now he can't, cuz he's in "limbo" waiting on the strike and he's contractually obligated to Ben Linus until Lost ends of Locke put's a bullet in his head. There is no conspiracy...Lost will continued...as soon as the strike is over.

Christian, Jack's Dad, is indeed DEAD so that is one of the lingering questions from the finale. However, it's clear Jack was belligerantly drunk when he said that and probably merely said it sarcastically. Darlton has repeatedly now said that Christian is DEAD so it was probably just a ruse by them to throw us off the flashforward scent.

I'd much prefer they did a straight run through instead of artificially breaking it up with an 8 episode tease... you know everyone's going to be really f'n pissed after episode 8 airs. Having said that, it's by far one of the best hours on the tube and the decision's been made by those !@#$ Suits so I'll enjoy whatever they give us.

When Jack said something like go get him and if he's drunker then me... I think he was referring to he's dead, and in whatever afterlife he's in, he's drunk. That was just a little line to try and trick/convince people that it was still a flashback when it was really a flash forward.

...RATINGS. ABC has NEW episodes of a HIT show. They would be idiots NOT to air them in the all important February sweeps. And the alternative is even worse...delaying the start of Season 4 until AFTER the strike is settled...ABC would have to hold it until November 08 sweeps. Does anyone really want to wait THAT long to get 16 episodes in a row?
