I used to watch both of these shows every week, but at some point I lost track of both of them. I attempted to get back into Dead Zone last season, but either I had moved on or the show had really taken a dive. I am a big fan of Monk, Psych, and Burn Notice, though. Hopefully USA can keep the streak alive and replace Dead Zone and 4400 with more quality programming.

NBC would rather rerun a show that performed below expecations on ABC (Monk) and another show that is even less spectacular in writing (Psych) to airing ANYTHING that might generate a hardcore following with BIG fan base potential (Like Battlestar- OR Journeyman-or even the solid and FUN Burn Notice, also on USA!). Just ANOTHER example of how ON THE BALL these programming execs are at NBC- BUT the NEW season of The Biggest Loser starts soon!!! OH YEAH!! GET THOSE RESUME'S READY!!!

Dead Zone had a good run, and though it was faltering last season pretty badly (okay, VERY badly) sorry to see it go. 4400 on the other hand had it's clumsy moments but was one of the most enjoyable braincheck shows on these last few years. What I thought was awesome about that show was the constant storyline movement and the fact that they only relied on that "it was only a dream" cliche' once or twice when it would have been an easy out for them on a number of occasions. sad to see it go, but it DOES free up another slot in my ever shortening list of stuff to watch with nothing of ANY value to replace it. Just means I get to read more!

i loved the show, especially since it was a summer filler when nothing else was on. even with all its ups and downs, it was still the best thing USA has aired in the last 5 years. yet in all fairness, heroes is what the 4400 should have been at least by season 2. now there is absolutely no reason to watch USA.

Did anyone see the guy that fucked up his trick by putting his hand in the wrong jar? Dickhead got bitten by a snake. Then, while in pain and with the objection of the medical staff, he actually finished the trick so that he wouldn't get kicked off the show. The reason 4400 sucked was that everyone that came from the past had a contemporary haircut. Took me right out of the show. Never watched it a-GAIN!!!

any of you are talking about. Phenomenon was by far the greatest viewing experiences of the past year. Not for any of the tricks, but mainly to show what a dickhead Criss Angel is. Like everytime he thought it was dumb, and Uri was like yeah i liked it. BUT man when he totally called that boner Crossing Over guy out, that was funny as hell. I loved how he was calling him out on his bullshit trick. Other then that the whole show was just horrible, though the right guy did win.

the problem with Dead Zone is that they could have come up with a satisfying ending a few seasons ago, but they decided to put it off and pad with mediocre episodes. Stillson's evil - then he's not - then he is again. And they kept replacing JJ with a new actor - worst kid replacement since the Sam's kid on ER. But any interesting plot they just dropped, like the future guy stuff with Frank Whaley - just throw away the cane and goodbye storyline. Of course, the main flaw in a show like this is that its source material, both the novel and the movie, were meant to be tragic. Johnny Smith was not supposed to survive. So turning it into a long running series meant that they had to change the fundamental tone of the piece. They did one episode that paid homage to the tragic ending in the book/movie, but they copped out with it being 'just a vision.' Even so, if they had carried on the way they were going, they could have had their happy ending with Johhny back together with Sarah and JJ, and Stillson's political career ruined if they had just sped things up. Now it's too late.

My wife and I both loved watching The 4400. Very upsetting to know I won't have it to look forward to this summer, and will never get to find out what happens next. So that's one less show to watch. Suddenly having all these channels doesn't seem so great, as it seems there is less and less worth watching. The Dead Zone on the other hand... I watched a few episodes of it, and thought it was fairly entertaining. Nothing I'll miss too much.

i live in the uk,i catch up with all the US shows as and when i can. We didnt really get a run of the 4400 over here so i hadnt heard much about it. I watched Heroes season 1 and loved it, then watched season 2 on download and thought it was a real crock of shit this year! Id heard 4400 was about super powers aswell so brought up season 1, 2 and 3 and i gotta say if this show had even half the budget of heroes it would've been HUGE cos there are some shit hot ideas in there, not to mention way better handling of its super individuals....im sad to hear ots been cancelled cos if heroes doesnt pick up it's game all i got is lost! and just got im british dont mean i like Dr Who, infact i think its totally shite!

I mean, on the one hand, you've got Uri Geller, who makes a living trying to convince people he's the greatest psychic in the world, and he may even believe it himself. (Because, you know, solving and preventing mysterious murders is nowhere near as great as BENDING SPOONS!!!) On the other hand, you've got Criss Angel who, despite his messianic posturing, is an entertainer, a trickster, who when off-stage does not claim to perform real supernatural feats. These guys are opposites of each other. Fans of one of them, are not fans of the other. Why are they working together?

"4400" was really interesting and they ended it on a huge cliffhanger! I agree that "Dead Zone" wasn't at its best last season, but at least give us some freaking closure after watching the show for so many years! What the hell else do they have to sustain the network, anyway? "Psych" & "Burn Notice" are good, but "Monk" is almost at the end of its run and so is that Criminal nobody cares show. Oh, wait. The fact that both shows only had one "block" of episodes, rather than Monk and Psych (which show new episodes in two blocks a year) probably didn't help. Who remembers the show 9 months later? Also DZ had major budget cutbacks this year, a move to Toronto for filming, pretty much dropped Walt and Bruce and Purdy, and generally cut back the budget. Sara and her kid just weren't that interesting. That all pretty much sealed its fate.

I liked Dead Zone, but I actually stopped watching if 1/3 of the way through this season. What the Hell were the producers thinking? Hey, let us throw away all our story arcs and start fresh with a silly love story written by a teenage girl. As for 4400, a well done show with little budget or love given to it. The 1st season was the best, but I am impressed to see how well the writers did in the later seasons as the cast became less committal (while the actor be available or won't they?) and the network obviously stopped giving anything resembling a rat's ass. "Hey kid here is a camcorder. Go make us a prime time show." (OK not that bad). But the writers kept soldiering on when lessers would have given up.

The reason BSG failed when they tried to run it on NBC a few years ago was for a couple of reasons: 1)They ran a shortened version of the mini series. As much as a love BSG the mini is quite frankly a little slow. 2)They ran it on a Saturday night when almost no one watches TV. 3)The did not promote it at all. How to make it work: Skip the mini and start with the first episode "33". Then after the end of season one. Run the mini promoted as "See how it all began" If "33" does not grab the audience nothing will. 2)Put it on Monday at 9 where "Heroes" used to be. Before Heroes started to suck Monday at nine was a solid spot for scifi TV on the network. 3)Promote the shit out of the premier. Do an action promo and a sex promo with barely clothed Trisha Helfer and naked 8 ti chi and run it during Sunday night football and other male oriented programming. Do a romance promo and run it during chick shows. Do a promo with butchy Starbuck and Lucy Lawless and run it during programs that lesbians like. Do a promo with some douche bag ranking on BSG and have Eddie Olmos come in and stare him down with the tag line "This ain't your daddy's BSG. Do a prestige promo emphasizing the Peabody and the Emmys and the top acting talent involved. 4) Sell more DVDs. Run ads at the end of each episode "Can't wait find out what happens next. BSG Season 1, 2.0 and 2.5 available now. If the NBC/Universal suites can't figure out that they have a quality product that's already paid for that they can use to get ratings and cross promote Scifi Channel and boost DVD rentals. They need to hang it up.

The Dead Zone at is prime was a terrific high concept adaptation of a great stephen king novel. It worked great for what it was trying to do. I personally thought the stillson plot dragged a perfectly good show down...it was a great formulaic show with characters we cared about. Also, it was the late great Michael Piller's last show..and I'm a huge Piller fan because he brought us DS9, the best of the new trek shows. Unfortunately, moving the show to Quebec, replacing cute JJ with ugly kid from kicking and screaming and killing off walt, trying to blandly create a neutral friendship between ezri and johnny, and changing the mansion (because they moved) and making the show more drowsy and slow was its death knell. I lost attention each week as I'd watch stillson slobber over ezri dax, still somehow believing he was a good man. the last season in particular wasted the show completely. But it deserved an ending season. I hope USA reconsiders and brings back a few TV movies. It would be fitting and appropriate. At its best, the show had vision, introspection, and great characters. 4400 never did that for me. The mere title suggested too many people, characters, plots. Burn Notice is amusing at times, but too dry. Thank the lord for Psych and Monk. Monk has become a little light in recent seasons, but it still tugs right where it needs to. And Psych is one of the greatest gen-x buddy cop/detective/psychic shows ever. What started off as a stiffly acted wooden-written show is my favorite show (ok, second to Monk, but still...). RIP Mr. Piller. I miss you. Kirk Out.

but never really got into these shows, sure I'd watch them at 2am if I was up and surfing AICN and lesbian chat rooms but just couldn't fully do it, I do feel sorry for those people that have invested energy and time into these shows. Burn Notice on the other hand I loved and I hope the Writer's Strike doesn't affect it. My feeling with BN is that it has a point whereit must end, when he finds out who burned him and gets his revenge after that it could just drag on and not make any sense I enjoy Pysch too, it's just fun dule and Corbin Bernsen are a hoot and the Christmas special was great I used to really enjoy Monk but since they lost his original assistant and replaced her with the chick from Two Guys and a Girl and the movie with Norm McDonald where people pay him to get revenge, it just seems like a shadow of itself.

the dead zone was great, last season stunk to high heaven. it's a real kick in the teeth for fans not to have a conclusion to a 5 year arc. the 4400, mini series was fantastic, first season not so brilliant and then i just lost interest, collier killed, the baby turning into an adult, that kids mum dying. that cops son being a killer. it just became more and more rediculous and absurd. wehn i watched hgeros the first dseaosn i prayed it wouldnt go down the 4400 route of letting down the fans.. and its done exactly that. still for you 4400 fans, i'm sorry for the loss of your show. hope you get a tv movie to wrap up things, like i hope for the dead zone.

Perhaps these new serialized dramas fail because I, and I'm sure a lot of other viewers like me, are tired of watching these shows when they first air and investing my time into them only to have the plugs get pulled before the show runners are able to put a proper end for the series together. I'm sick and tired of it. It happened to me first with Miracles on ABC, with Deadwood, Carnivale and John from Cincinnati on HBO, with a couple of new shows on FX, and the list goes on and on and on. Just about every network I watch pulls this shit with the exception of CBS becuase I can't think of a single show on CBS I watch. I'm fucking tired of it so I won't do it anymore. If I hear good things about a new serialized drama on any network I will not invest my time into it until it's over and I know that the show runner was able to give the series a proper ending. The only exception to that rule will bet with shows like 24 that are fairly self-contained within each season. For all the rest I'll go out and rent the DVD's and catch up on my own time. The networks are on crack if they think they can keep asking audiences to invest in new shows only to pull the plug after a season, or in some cases half a season, without allow the show runners to wrap things up and give the show a proper ending. Fuck them, I'm tired of dealing with it year in and year out.

You’ve GOT to be kidding me! 4400 is one of the BEST things on television! USA you can NOT leave this story unfinished. The writing and acting have remained excellent and “closure” should not be ignored. The story is not done; this really stinks – perhaps a mini-series, a TV movie or a move to a more sympathetic network? Honestly.

I've been following 4400 on DVD, and now, it doesn't have an end? Luscious.868 is right. What's the point of following these kind of shows when the studios will cancel them, ending or not? What's worse is that shows like Deadwood and 4400 were on for a while,pulling us in, thinking that since they had some longevity, the studios would allow the producers to finish the storyline. TO AICN: Stop advertising Carnivale, will ya? It doesn't have an ending, right? So what's the point of following it.

First, let me say I was deeply shocked and saddened when Bitty Schram was shown the door. However, I think Natalie is infinitely better. In order for Monk to have some maturing and growth he couldn't be mollycoddled by a nurse who was being paid to deal with his sh*t. Ultimately, the character arc would leave gaps. Certainly her departure was hastened, if not abrupt, but it was better for the show. Natalie doesn't put up with his crap. She's an equal to him on the show. Her daughter is a more interesting character than Sharona's son, too. I think the show's lightened up a bit, but I'm not sure that's because Natalie's around. I think that the depression subtext is often difficult for people to deal with, as it is and was so realistic. So what if it's a tad lighter now? My vote is for Natalie.

and I don't dislike Natalie as a char. I just don't like Taylor Howard (?) as an actress, at first I thought it was more of a case of Three's Company revolving roommates where Nat would be like sharona but isn't, but I just find howard grating as an actress. I know Silverman is tied up with her own show and stuff but I really wouldlike to se emore of her obsessed fan on Monk, because she irritaties Adrian in much the way he irritates others.

was the ability to remove the superpowers of other 4400s. it frakking sucks that they canned the 4400 but the last season finale was clearly written with that possibility in mind. the biggest gyp is that we never got a clear sense of what future disaster the 4400 were averting, aside from general badness. but i really liked the show, despite its third season meanderings.

I agree. Natalie is a much better assistant for Monk than Sharona was. I'm not sure why they got rid of her. I heard that they wanted the new assistant to have a different dynamic w/ Monk. Although Sharona seemed like a tougher chick on the outside than Natalie is, she took way more crap from Monk. Natalie does force him to treat her as an equal and it works better.

Sigh. I have mixed feelings about the DZ/4400 cancellations. As far as DZ goes, this is to be expected. In fact, I feared it would get cancelled at the end of each of the previous two seasons, which would have sucked more in some ways, and less in others. At least with this season, we're pretty much led to believe that Johnny will end up back with Sara raising J.J. and the baby girl. I can go out on a limb and say he stops Stillson (since Johnny always saves the day) and lives happily ever after. Though, I would like to know just how Stillson was going to cause Armageddon. But as others have said, this show was just too inconsistent. Very interesting storylines (future Johnny, for example) would get thrown away at the drop of a hat. And this season they axed all the supporting characters except Sara and replaced J.J. with one very annoying little actor. This was always the way it was going to end, and it could have been worse, but I'll miss it nonetheless. 4400 is much harder for me to swallow. I really LOVED the original premise of this show (the mystery surrounding abductees returned after years away), and liked the show delivery itself. Yes, it had its ups and downs. I really missed the Richard/Lilly storyline after S2. But Tom, Diana and Shawn were always compelling characters and this was a great summer filler show. I will truly miss seeing it next June. It is more difficult to accept than DZ because there was still so much we didn't know. A fitting ending for both series would have been nice, but as usual, Universal/NBC screws fans whenever they get a chance. I'm still waiting on a fitting ending to The Pretender. Goodbye 4400, you will be missed. I hope the actors find their way to other series, many of them are quite talented.

Christ, what level of conclusion do you people need?!? Do we have to shot everyone, ala Blake's 7? Deadwood & 4400 had perfectly good endings that solved the current dilemmas and left you feeling that life was going to go on for these people. They didn't die with cliffhangers. Screaming "conclusion" just isn't a valid complaint in these cases.

Real shame about the 4400. I really enjoyed that show..i hope they can do a tv movie and wrap up the story as it was really going places..in some way it's probably seen as a poor mans "heroes" but although not as good as thta it was still a fucking ace show..R.I.P
