Russell Brand is in this???

how the fuck did that happen? For those who don't know, he's a British comedian/presenter who has become a tabloid fixture thanks to his serial shagging. I actually think he's pretty funny, but he pisses a lot of people off. He talks in an elaborate camp-Dickensian style, which makes me laugh, and may be exactly what is referred to in the review. He's also in the new St. Trinians film, which despite the fact it has tasty birds in school uniforms looks amazingly unwatchable. Interesting to see him making the move into acting.

he really does dress like a rockstar and is very Jack Sparrow-esque. You sure he was acting in this and didn't just walk onto the set whilst high on smack??

yes he is a cock, but occasionally quite the funny cheeky chappie. KB though the the hawtness. so very sad about veronica mars, another waste of a perfectly great TV series. still i might watch this.. although superbad and knocked up weren't the amazingly hilarious comedies i really expected them to be.

thats why he polarizes the audience but if you go with the flow and stop second questioning his choice of hair products and the fact that he's slept with every good looking girl whose appeared on british tv or film in the last 2 years he's very funny.

I think it's great another Brit is potentially about to crack America (like Sacha Baron Cohen), so I fully support Brand in this film. He's an acquired taste in the UK, but I think he's generally a good bloke. His Radio 2 show is by far his best work, but I think putting him in scripted comedy is perfect (although he'll very likely be typecast, as I don't think he's really an AC-TOR). This film should be good fun, and I heard that he steals the show so much that Judd Apatow now wants to write him his own comedy film. We Brits like to knock people down (especially if they're just put in a bad performance on a comedy panel show, or generally become overexposed in tabloids) but I think Brand's a refreshing presence.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a better title!

Put some faith in the general public, for christ's sake. 'Anchorman,' 'Knocked Up' and 'Superbad' all made a mint without using another movie title as their template. Makes me think of that scene in 'The TV Set' where they change the name of the show to "Call Me Crazy!" ("That's cool, because it's like the guy's fuckin' crazy!")

....that thinks "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is the MUCH more generic title?? Just how it rolls off the tongue, it seems like there's been a million movies with similar titles. Raising Victor Vargas Chasing Amy Killing Zoe Finding Forrester Banging Jenna Jameson 17 etc
OK.. Am I the only one that wants to see this, but NOT Jason Seg

Sorry, but Superbad sucked. It really did. I don't think that was Apatow's fault, though. It was Seth Rogen's writing. No shit he wrote it in High School. But, with friends like Judd Apatow I guess anything is possible.

And can we please stop with the movie titles that pretentiously feature a verb in their title? Finding Forrester, Saving Silverman, etc., (fuck, I can't think of anymore now) and now Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It's like the IFC hip-indie-coming-of-age-movie- word-title game. As if adding an "-ing" to the title makes it sound like it's about something more than what it actually is. You know what I'm sayin'?

Does anyone else have a bias against film titles that use contractions or prepositions? I'm Not There, You've Got Mail, She's Having a Baby, Don't Talk to Strangers, Dance With Me...

Don't fucking tell me what to do, movie. And don't tell me where you at. It just seems like any movie that employs a title like that is automatically bad. (Haven't seen "I'm Not There" but I'd be willing to bet "P.S., I Love You" is a bowl of shit just waiting to hit the floor.

Uh, Quint... It HAS been changed to "Dumped."

I don't know why people don't understand that. As a producer you steer people towards what you think will work. As a director (A GOOD ONE)you make what you like, and hope to God it's accessable to the public. What I really want to know is what is Apatows next directing gig.

The typical Apatow formula in his movies...

is to have some loser dork be the forefront character. This is someone who is just the bottom end on the loser pole, someone modeled after Napoleon Dynamite in that they're in their own world of fashion, demeanor and looks. Then they'll be pasted front and center on the movie's poster in a very ridiculous and unflattering pose (i.e. see the Dewey Cox, Superbad, 40 year old Virgin, Knocked up posters), usually with some stupid looking expression to add more effect. Then it'll usually involve some 70's type of font for the movie's title. Then, and here's the ultimate factor, there'll be a non-stop blitz of ads in every format, from the internet, to television, to trailers, to magazine ads, etc leading up to the movie so that they become an "it" factor to see since they're everywhere. But the thing is that with the main character's dopey looking expression on all these ads it'll become an instant annoyance to see them constantly everywhere. There's your typical Apatow movie nowadays. With so many of his movies coming out and them constantly saying "from the maker of Superbad" he's on dangerous territory of becoming oversaturated. I mean look at what happened to the Farrelly brothers.

That'll be a stretch for Russell Brand. His whole sctick is ripped off from Jack Sparrow, via Vince Noir. saying that, he can be quite funny. Could be good in an Apatow film, the same way Ali G ended up being good in Talladega Nights.
