no joke, at least I sorta see it. the word BAT on his left, and MAN on his (our) right, very vaguely in the building and light shapes.

the B is more or less in the 'off' lights of the second window..

both 'A's are really obvious, as is the T. the M and N are a little bit of a strecth, but are the only panels besides the T with any diagonal break up.

I made a guide with red lettering, but compare it with the stock image.

by timopictures
Dec 13th, 2007
09:56:15 PM
My gut instinct tells me this is fake. It doesn't jive with the style of their advertising so far. The title font is the same size as the WB/DC logos at the bottom, which is way too small. And the buildings shouldn't be able to reflect the way they are on the floor. He's looking down on the city, but the buildings from way below are somehow reflecting in the floor?

by Napoleon Park
Dec 13th, 2007
10:00:33 PM
I get a real vulnerable, human "Night Owl" from Watchmen sort of vibe off it. It's the assymetry, with the flechettes from the glove sticking out just on one side, and Batman/Wayne's forlorn Charlie Brown posture. Looking out on that HUGE freaking city and realizing that he's just one man in a dopey costume who's bitten off way more than he can chew. This is NOT a criticism. I like the ideal of a 'realistic' Batman sobered by the realization of the impossible odds he's chosen to face, and that's what this poster says to me. Yeah, I'll be cropping it into a wallpaper as soon as photoshop opens.

...."And the buildings shouldn't be able to reflect the way they are on the floor. He's looking down on the city, but the buildings from way below are somehow reflecting in the floor?"

if you were up there with him, you would see the buildings on the floor the farther away you got from the window. batman would not, but this shot seems to be taken from behind and slightly above batman. far enough away to get all the floor and ceiling in perspective. It's a little forced and comic-booky, but not all that far off.

by I Dunno

I see this shit on a lot of movie sites.

Yes, there are a lot of big, dumb American movies. And most of them make more money overseas than they do here. And who made this movie with the poster that's so much more intellectual than any American can handle? Oh, Nolan? Who signs his checks? Without looking it up, I'll guess an American Jew.

So get off your high horse about Americans and let us get back to quoting Fight Club, a film that was greenlit by an American jew who was promptly fired because it bombed so badly for not being AMERICA, FUCK YEAH! enough. But the fact remains that it was still produced in America.

Hadn't thought about it until now but judging from that poster that very well may be the story structure they're going after. Lunatic ends up causing chaos and getting followers that follow him blindly complete with dressing up like him so they're all the same. Wonder if the Joker would take out an espresso bar with a piece of modern art.... YUP. But that being beside the point.. the poster is clearly meant to invoke Fight Club no doubt.

New trailer on I AM LEGEND. *SPOILERS*

Dec 13th, 2007
11:45:38 PM
I work at a local theater and there was a new 2 minute 30 second trailer for TDK attached to IAL. I really enjoyed it. Lots of Joker. It starts off with a Joker V.O. He is talking to Batman saying no one understands him and he's "a freik...... LIKE ME!!" Fucking great opening. There was alot of Joker in it and no sign of Dent. A few scenes with the Batpod. Joker with a rocket launcher and another scene with an assault rifle. Then Gordon is talking to a police dude about "a guy they brought in, no finger prints and nothing on him but lint and knives". A few scenes of him in jail. If you saw the Empire pic thats the scene I'm talking about. Then there is a few clips of Alfred, i think, doing a v.o. about knowing it would escalate and bad things would happen. The scenes with this is Bale sitting against a wall, full gear on minus the mask and he looks depressed while looking at it. A few scenes with Morgan Freeman, a few with Maggie Gyllenhaal. There was a scene with a SEMI TRAILER flipping over front end to back end, the long ways, that was crazy. Thats all I can think of at the moment, ill tell anything else if it comes to me
Yeeaaahh... I'm thinking this is fake, too.

First of all, it's a really nice poster, so if it's not fake, you know, yay. But I mean, that city in the background doesn't even look like Gotham from the first movie at all. As someone else mentioned, where's the monorail? Not to mention that Batman also looks kind of too photoshopped in there. And the fact that it comes to us via "omelete.com" doesn't really do anything for me. Is this a reputable site?
I think I'll wait a couple of days before getting completely excited about this poster, see if it isn't proven fake, lol.
But regardless, really nice poster. :)

I agree. They really should stop releasing the first scene to every movie weeks and months in advance of the actual openings. When that first 7-minute scene from Spider-Man 3 came out, I watched it and found it to be so spoilerific that SM3 became the first SM movie I never watched in a theatre.

Someone called it earlier, its pretty sloppy that short buildings are being reflected on the FLOOR that hes standing on. That is a huge oversight. Every problem I have with Nolan's Batman is summed up in this poster. It's too real. There's no visual imagination. Batman should exist in a noir-ish world. Say what you will about Burton's films, but his first Batman flick nailed the look of Gotham City. The Gotham of Batman Returns is like a fairy tale city, but the first flick's Gotham was great.

the city doesn't really match the corrupt/decaying image of Gotham. Plus Batman looking out from the inside of a building is odd. He should be on the rooftops or behind a gargoyle. It doesn't conjure "dark" or "knight". Of course this could all be by design but unless it ties in to a specific moment or theme from the movie, I'd give it just an 'ok'.

Batman works best in a noir-ish setting similar to burton's and batman Tas. Old school film noir, ganster movies, all probably influenced batman in the first place... that said, Nolan's films feel more like james bond than gritty oldschool bogart noir.

The poster is certainly suppose to depict Batman surveying Gotham from his new downtown penthouse (a plot point known online now for months). It is not Hong Kong, which would make no sense (even though Batman reportedly visits there) because the movie is about Batman and his city.

Iffy reflections aside, the cold, almost clinical tone suggests that Batman is a bit detached from the city. Even the vertical window lines seem like jail bars, as if he's a prisoner of the city. Awesome poster design.

....I, too, had Bruce Wayne move to the penthouse at the top of the Wayne Foundation Building, in that screenplay I was writing. It really does feel ridiculous to mention, even though it was just a step in helping to educate myself in the process of writing for film, utilizing a subject I'm familiar with...and quite passionate about. Anyway, moving to the penthouse only makes sense, with the destruction of Wayne Manor. That's exactly why I had done it in my little attempt of a screenplay, titled "DROWNING IN LAUGHTER", which I was ready to illustrate into a poster image. (Rachel Dawes body is found at the bottom of the Gotham River in the opening sequence.) The movie poster design I had in mind would have had the Joker grinning while looking into a fishbowl, giving us a fishbowl face (a bit of a teaser). And with the lighting from below, from the fishbowl itself, highlighting the Joker's "fishbowl face", the background offered various options. There was the option of background characters in complete silhouette...or even a window with a view of the Bat-signal or even Batman himself. As an artist, I enjoyed the thought of playing with the design until completion, though I lost inspiration upon the reaction of a few talkbackers, here at AICN. Even so, from my own personal perspective and knowledge of the characters, I truly loved what I had written. It was fun while it lasted.

He should be standing outside, not like a pussy geek dressed up ready to go downstairs to a dress up party. Also, the city just looks to big for batman. Like, it doesn't need him. oh well.
He's overlooking the rebuilt Wayne Manor

I thought it was chromulent. Did I mishear it or did you, but hell yeah it was funny. Edna:"I never heard of embiggen before moving to Springfield." Other teacher: "I don't know why, it's a perfectly chromulent word" Or am I flip flopping the teachers, whatever.
What a crappy poster.

Don't let these dour fucks in the talkbacks get you down, they'll hate on anything under the sun. FWIW the design you mentioned sounds pretty interesting. And I think we all can agree that that's exactly where Rachel Dawes needed to end up.
Beautiful.

Thank god somebody mentioned the darth vader-esque nature of the poster cause that's the first thing I thought of. That being said, it still rocks my world.

If the last scene of BB with Gordon is right after the bank robbery. Plus Wayne Manor just burned to the ground. You can't just pull a new mansion out of your ass, or use a cave with dozens of construction workers plodding around upstairs. My amazing psychic predicion for this movie; the last scene if Bruce walking into the rebuilt mansion, going down to the cave, flipping on the lights and we see the fully loaded Batcave, big screens super computers, weapons on top of weapons on top of gadgets and vehicles then cut to the bandages being removed from harvey's face!
