No way this movie gets a new title WITH America in it, when it was pretty obvious to begin with that it's gonna be just JUSTICE LEAGUE (NO "of America") so they can market it worldwide. More likely this is the fake name they're using to film it with.

They would never allianate international audiences like that. As one of them, I can tell you it would be a mistake. I mean, I would watch the movie anyway, but a LOT of people get turned off by your sometimes over the top patriotism. Specially considering today's intenational situation. I'd bet anything this isn't the name, I would even bet it will be just Justice League, no "of America". You know, "truth, justice and... all that stuff" style ;)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This movie will suck. WB does not know how to use their DC characters properly. A Justice League Movie without Bale or Routh will suck. At least, they should have brought in Keaton to play Bats. At least that will keep some continunity in their universe.

...fake news. Celebs are frequently misquoted. For all we know, "American Heroes" was a working code name for the project, like "Blue Harvest" or something.

I don't think that they'd blow this & rename it. Not for the international audience, which is important too, but for the existing property connection. Like Marvel, DC wants to hawk as many copies of their books as possible. I sincerely doubt that they're retitling JLA anytime soon. Thus, they have to keep the movie name as Justice League, especially when you've got familiar league members.

I wouldn't get my panties up in a bunch. It either sounds like a misquote or incomplete news. "American Heroes" could even be a subtitle.

If they want a dorky title. They can have every hero call the other "superfriend". Anyway Bale probably just this threw that title out by mistake. He probably has no idea who the Justice League is. Even having played one of the leaguers twice, he's probably never read any comic book outside a FEW batman comics. Besides, why would he even know what's the new title if he isn't related to that movie.

...and it would be hard to sell overseas, but they're going to make a movie called "American Heroes"?!? HA!!! The day Hollyweird doesn't slam America in order to bolster their "citizen of the world" bona fides will be the day after the Sun explodes.

On the pitiful "Moronic, er, Bionic Woman", when they introduced her new CIA agent bohunk, she asked him if the CIA were the good guys or bad guys and he mumbled something like, "It depends. when a REAL CIA agent would be like, "Despite what you keep hearing in the media, we really are the good guys. Say, don't you work for a shadowy, extra-legal, corporate mercenary force, Miss Pot."

Besides, "American Heroes" sounds like a discount version of "American Gladiators". "American Idol" sounds more macho.

What a cockup. Miller gets a half step of slack because Bale will use up his 3 pic deal on the stand-alone series, and nobody in their right mind would hire mannequin Robo-Routh. So, he is forced to re-cast. We get that. But that is no excuse to cast 21yr old BatHammer and shrimpy Supermanuel!

And IF the Justice League movie is named anything BUT "Justice League", then Miller's gone senile.

knowing how even in australia, America isn't held in great regard, Bale was passively knocking the 'silly' project that threatens to confuse the projects he's involved with by flippantly calling it that 'american heroes' movie, giving it as stupid a name as he thinks the project is. ...and maybe also because now he knows justice league, and that'll be no justice league.

seriously..take rumors and hearsay and treat it as such. don't jump on every morsel that somebody hears over a radio. it's out of context, if bale had written what he said on the radio, i'd doubt 'american heroes' would have been capitalized.

...I'm with you. I think Bale was simply being derrogatory and dismissive. Maybe he even made air quotes or talked out the side of his mouth as he said it. Or mimed masturbation. Judging by his apparent regard for that project, he was probably substituting "American Heroes" for "That Fucking Piece of Shit With Wings", or words of a similar sentiment. I just don't think George Miller would be quite such a twat. Or at least I hope not. My impression of him is that he has some sort of head that he keeps on his shoulders, and inside of that head is a type of "brain". Maybe I'm wrong. If Michael Bay, Ron Howard, or some other vapid American power-junky was directing this -- however -- I would be getting a sickening feeling right now that this was all true.

Bale isn't a comic book reader, and I doubt he's paid much attention to this project besides telling people he's not involved, so he probably just flubbed the name. Warner Bros. wouldn't take a project predicated solely on the success of a cartoon series, and then name it something completely different from the popular cartoon.

why it's still called the Justice League of *America* anyway. They're active over the entire world (and beyond), not all the members are from America (Superman is at least a citizen, but I doubt that Wonder Woman, Aquaman, or Martian Manhunter are -- maybe they applied for citizenship in their secret identities, but that would make their citizenship applications fraudulent and so invalid), and until recently they weren't even based in America (but instead in a satellite or on the moon). The only reason for the name that I can see is that the group was based on the 1940s Justice Society of America, which made more sense since they were fighting on the U.S. side in WWII.

Yeah, in the DC comics series _Super Powers_ (partially written/drawn by an obviously reluctant Jack Kirby) the JLA was called the Super Powers Team, and around the same time the _Super Friends_ tv show changed its name, first to _Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show_ and then to _The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians_. I don't know how anyone could believe it is. Actually I do know...there are so many people who want to hate this movie that having it called American Heroes would just add to the misery they can happily wallow in. It sounds like Bale was making a dismissive comment about the movie by calling it "American Heroes". It's obvious to me that Bale and Nolan are both pissed about this movie because of the great work they're doing on their own batman movie. In a way I can't blame them. but i also want to see Superman and Batman on screen in my lifetime along with Martian Manhunter et al...

They are doing everything they can to get "America" out of GI Joe so it wont affect the overseas box office. Then they took "America" out of the Justice League of America for essentially the same reason. Now they are going to remove the "Justice League" part and go strictly with a USA-centric title? Doesn't make any sense - must be a working "Blue Harvest" title.

Try this for some perspective: substitute "German", "Swedish" or "Indian" (as in person from India) for the word "American" in any of these films. "Swedish Gangster", "German Beauty", or "Indian Heroes". Time to cowboy back down again and get over yourself, America! No one else cares.

All right, nobody has said it, so I guess I most. Here's the main(sigh, along with so many others) problem with this movie. Remember Nicholson's Joker? Yeah, the mainstream took that Joker and ran with it because in those days comics cost like 75 cents, were printed in cheap newspaper paper and were mainly for very young kids, so no one knew any better. But that wasn't the Joker, that was Hollywood development. Jon Peters and Peter Guber and a couple other suits along with Tim Burton and Jack Nicholson(none of whom had ever read one comic book)said- and the bad guy, The Joker, will be a character sort of like a The Godfather, crossed with that Frank Nitty, you know, that bad guy from The Untouchables, that movie made a lot of money you know, crossed with the character Jack Nicholson played in the Witches of Eastwick(Trust me, this is how movies get developed). Then a funny thing happened. Batman 89 exploded and the merchandise went through the roof. Then a new genre was created, backed by the openings of new comic stores, sequels and franchises of films which promised those stores they would have years of sales ahead of them, with new comics, film merchandise, etc. Then the quality and look of the comics improved and the prices jumped to a couple of bucks. Slowly but surely a lot of people got into comics and the whole thing became an animal. Then Spider-Man opened and the comic film exploded. Each comic character became a franchise in their own right. My brother and I for years always said that the only movie that could challenge Titanic's box office is a Justice League movie. In 1999 you could walk down any street usa and asked the people if they knew who Wolverine was, The X-Men, Daredevil, The Punisher. Nothing, not a clue. But ask them if they knew who Wonder Woman was, Aquaman, Green Lantern. Yup, known about them for years. And that recognition factor meant a money franchise. DC Comics and Warner Bros. had the upper hand there. But my brother and I figured they would find a way to screw it up. Sure enough. Then they needed to expand upon the character of Batman from the Batman animated series, and decided to put him with other heroes and created The Justice League Cartoon, somewhat of a spinoff from the Batman Animated series. So they put that on the mainstream. But that is NOT THE JUSTICE LEAGUE just like Nicholson's Joker is not the Joker, see what I'm saying? Now THE BIGGEST PROBLEM is that that is what they're making into a film. A film version of the Justice League cartoon. NO, NO, NO, NO, NO. The Justice League is Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, and HAL JORDAN, HAL JORDAN, HAL JORDAN as Green Lantern. That's the origin. And they are super heroes in their own right, in their own cities and team up sometimes when the threat is too big for one or two of them. The cartoon never got it quite right, and the film should never had been made from the cartoon. But since the people in charge don't care to read or even to do any research, and they figure- well the cartoon was kinda popular, and that's what the mainstream know by know, let's just go with the flow, heaven forbid us in Hollywood ever go against the status quo. You know we like sure things always. And the movie will make some money, but not what it could have made done right. And something else, if Batman is spying on the other heroes, taken from the Infinite Crisis series, that WAS NOT a Justice League of America series, so it's even worse. This will be a disaster in comparasion to what could have been. Just for the amount of Heroes together it will make money, but it will be a product hated by many. Me included. Me specially.

I mean, it's obviously a bad idea, alienating both comic book fans and international audiences alike, but then again in Hollywood anything is possible. I suspect it's a "code name" rather than an actual title. But if it really is going to be called that, look for the rest of the world to get it under the title JUSTICE LEAGUE, rather like the rest of the world got DIE HARD 4.0 instead of LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD, a play on the motto of the state of New Hampshire - probably too "local" for export, in Fox's opinion.

..start a trilogy of JLA films with the golden age...nazi-punchin', light hearted action..indy jones style.

then a second film of the silver age...supervillains start to come into the picture..it's a little darker, but no more dark than recent incarnations of FF or anything..

then a 3rd picture more up to date with modern comics- darker and more 'realistic' like x-men and batman begins and spidey, where it's very character involved, and often the heroes don't even get along with each other and fighting crime seems like a winless situation.

keep the same actors where needed, like supes and WW to show they don't age much. make their 'age' be their growing tiredness of war and humanity. have Bats only in the 2nd and 3rd movie. by the third, have him be old and bitter. everyone he started with in the JLA has changed hands 'cept superman and WW.

I am guessing you are 25 or under. The primary effect Batman had was to bring in a rush of speculators, which caused the boom bust of the early-mid-90's. And comics in the 80's were sophisticated. Comics have been evolving since their inception. In fact, there was much in the 90's, mainly by Marvel and Image that was much less sophisticated than the average 80's comic. That's when Alan Moore did Swamp Thing, Killing Joke and a little book called Watchmen. Frank Miller began writing Daredevil in 1980 and released Dark Knight Returns in '86. Claremont had been doing X-men for a while (and was still good at it until the late 80's) and Wolfman and Perez were creating New Teen Titans.
So does this mean the GI Joe flick gets renamed...

If they're shooting for something more serious than the "SUPERFRIENDS" cartoon...yet no more serious than those "FANTASTIC FOUR" flicks, then they could call it "SHIT ON A STICK" for all I care. However, if they're shooting for something on the level of an Alex Ross graphic novel...with perhaps a slight spin from the talent of the director, while retaining what is great about the characters and their (visual) cinematic qualities, then I'm very interested. Justice League or not, this could be great. But at this table, I'm not a gambling man.

You did not understood my post. I am not 25, or under. I took part in the whole #900 thing to have Jason Todd's Robin killed. I read and remember the original Crisis with the deaths of Barry Allen and Supergirl, as well as the Superman's revamp by John Byrne, Jim Aparo's Batman, Wolfman and Perez involvement with the Titans before Perez went to Wonder Woman and whatever Alan Moore, Frank Miller, etc. were doing when they changed the face of comic books. Yes, Comics of the 80's were sophisticated and were outlets for Mythology and worked on many levels, psychologically, phylosophically, etc. What I was saying is that you me and some other people read comics and most of those people were under 20(and when I say you, me and some other people, I mean in a country of 200 million+, maybe 4 million, and of those mostly young males). Now, the rest, the majority of those 200+ million people, went to the movies, went to Blockbuster and rented vhs, and watched tv. And that market with all those people was not exploited by the comic book product. You couldn't get the comic book product, ie superheroes and supervillians on the screen, or at blockbuster, or on tv. It wasn't mainstream. I think because I said comics were cheap and made with cheap paper and had no mainstream access you thought that I was somehow putting comics down. I wasn't. Now, Batman 89 changed all that gradually up to the point we are today. You even say it yourself that in the mid 90's some stuff wasn't as sophysticated as in the 80's. That's because by then thanks to all the people brought in by Batman it had become mainstream and once that happens and it's for the masses, the quality suffers, by then we get into high culture(for a specific reduced group) doen to low culture(for the masses, for everybody, lesser product). Now, my point again, in those days, when it wasn't mainstream and you couldn't find any superhero stuff on tv, or the movies, etc. If you asked people in those days who Wolverine was, or Xavier, or Daredevil, they had no clue. But still in those days they knew Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, etc. See my point? Only comic fans knew the Marvel characters and some of the other's companies characters in those days. Warner Bros. had the upper hand there. But I digress, my whole issue is this. hst666, you seem to know comics and its history, you seem to know and have followed the characters for many years, tell me honestly. Is Jack Nicholson's Joker, THE Joker? You know the character of the Joker as it exists and have existed for many years? No, of course not. And that's how it's going to be with these Justice League movie. That's my point. It's concieved by people who are not qualified to bring the concept to the correct fruition, just like Nicholson's Joker. It's based on something it never should have been based on-The Justice League Cartoon.

That's the title, trust me. After the genius of Beowulf 3D; making Justice League motion capture would be a great idea, especially in 3-D. For those who've seen Beowulf this way, will agree. For those who actually BELIEVE that the title is anything BUT 'Justice League', go line up for Ghost Rider 2. DC is way, way, way to protective of their source material to let anyone fuck around. I mean, FUCK MARVEL and their 'iconic heroes' (minus Cap America). Justice League is Mt. Olypus, and Superman is Zeus. These are the characters and hero's that the word "iconic' was CREATED for. Yeah messi, if that's your cup of tea, hey, to each its own. Only I like a little more that Superman knocking on an opponent for two minutes, then the opponent putting Superman through cars and walls, Batman comes in with a gizmo, momentarily knocks the bad guy, but he recovers and hurts Batman for the course of one full minute, Diana helps Superman up to his feet, while Flash runs and runs circles around the bad guy trying to do...something. Then The Manhunter telephatically tells them all how to unite and beat the baddie. Go and watch right now, every episode is like that. So two-dimensional is not even amusing. And it's for children. Now, I'm not saying it's a completely terrible show. It's good for exactly what it is. A an half-hour episodic cartoon show on Cartoon Network. It should not be made a full-lenght movie. And it specially should not be a movie directed by the guy who did one of the most adult-oriented, kinetic, visceral action movies of the past 30 years-The Road Warrior. You know I read recently that a big problem with the world is that people just like crap or mediocre stuff, and the counter- argument was that people nowadays are content with very little, they are conformists with wathever is given to them. With this movie we kill two birds with one stone. Both arguments apply. Wow.

I've read that before. They could place the Pit anywhere. It does say, no Brussels but that doesn't mean the team won't be UN international troops. In fact, It painstakingly makes sure it doesn't say anything about America at all in it! They could care less about what's going on, so long as they sell toys. They are not proof of quality control and haven't been for over a decade.

What the fuck is this, a movie spin off of All American Hero? Will they have an update of "I'm walking on air" to go with it? Shit people, this movie cannot afford to alienate DC heroes fans from this anymore than it already has by existing in a separate cannon from the other DC hero movies. They NEED the Justice League title at least. The only reason to not use it is because you know this movie will be shit and you want to be able to make a REAL Justice League movie later without too much loss of face (kind of like how they're making another Hulk movie now). Do not fuck it up this badly!

Thats one criticism of the series I definitely have to disagree with. If there was anything which stuck out about show it would be its impressive depth of characterizations and sense of continuity. I'll concede that the first season was relatively flat since it seemed they weren't quite sure what tone or direction to take and some of the scale of threats they faced felt pretty underwhelming considering their roster. Regardless of how flashy the action scenes were or weren't though, every episode provided a window into the basic essence of the characters and showed the qualities which have defined the them throughout their existence and various incarnations.

Also, the Justice League series kicked ass! Now I'll leave it at that so you can get back to "Dora the Explorer." ("My shoes are blue. Mi zapatas esta azul. I don't know what's worse - the movie studios pandering to ultra-PC marketing trends or what would be, according to most of the sentiments on here, and entire planet full of people who, despite looking forward to it for years, would apparently decide to not see a film based entirely upon a SINGLE WORD IN THE TITLE. I understand that the US has its detractors at the moments, but honestly, what does would say about the rest of the world if all you guys were right and they would be willing to forego what will probably be an awesome flick simply because of a word in the title? For that matter, what does it say about the rest of the world if they're willing to profess hate for an entire country based solely on its current leader? Bah.

***** MOTION CAPTURE *****
by JDanielP
Dec 12th, 2007
09:51:01 AM
I think there may be some misunderstanding as to how motion capture will be used in this movie. At least, from what I have read, motion capture will only be used to some degree. And that makes complete sense when the focus is on LIVE ACTION, especially when considering the subject. I've explained long ago, here in such talkbacks at AICN, that the best way to make such a movie a reality would be to use "motion capture" for background characters (flying, fighting, etc.) when the shot involves multiple characters (using cgi powers). (One alternative, which may be all the more convincing though more expensive, is to layer the moving images of the actual actors in costume, with cgi effects at work.) All I'm saying is...is that "motion capture" can, in fact, blend with the reality of film. It's just a matter of using the best judgment, looking at the needs of the film from all angles, considering budget, and to have enough knowledge...as to what will result on screen. I'm completely convinced that the time is right for an EPIC superhero movie, beyond anything we have seen before. When you add up all the advances of modern day special/visual effects, and even some old-school effects and tricks that hang around to this day, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON why we can't experience a NEW summer blockbuster like days long past. Personally, I think Hollywood just needs more talent in the director's chair,...along with the trust and a transition of power to realize a singular vision.

Mo-Cap is terrible and lifeless and a pox on all cinema, but that rotoscope style animation from Waking Life and Scanner Darkly would be PERFECT for a JLA adaptation like this.
