but I was in highschool and I really don't remember that much of it anymore, when it was gone it was just... gone. It just didn't have the rewatch value in the college years. I think they may have waited too long for this sequal. I spoke to my younger brother (8 year age diff), "dude, they're making X-Files 2." I shit you not he thought it was another X-Men. Unless they pull a boat load of old fans outta hiding, I worry that this thing may come and go prety quick. It was always a hard show to jump in the middle of anyway.

I predict the pivotal moment will be when Xzibit kicks that Alien Bounty Hunter guy out of the door of a building/train/aircraft. A la Busta Rhymes and Michael Myers. Because everyone knows the only way to defeat the big baddie is to have a bigger b-list rapper come in and kick his face in. DROP DEM NIKES OFF YO ASS SMOKING MAN FO I BLAST YOU, FOO!

Xzibit plays the entire movie straight until said pivotal moment when it is time for him to go "GHETTO ON DAT AZZ!" It's so brilliant after all, to get all these rappers to play roles you would never ever buy them in in the first place. Yet the director spends the whole of the movie attempting to sell you Xzibit as say an FBI Agent or whatnot, until the moment in the film comes when he turns into a G-THUG, which is also a moment they are going to use in every trailer for this film we see.

The problem with introducing "name" support cast like this is that there will inevitably have to be more screen time spent with these people, who can only be distractions from what we all really want to see.

Which, of course, is Mulder, Scully, and the rest of the original cast, and that includes Frank Black and Agent Doggett. It's been years since we've seen our old favorites, and we're already getting distractions from them?

So please, Chris Carter, don't get too many clever ideas. Just give us a great, suspenseful, creepy X-Files story with the elements we love.

You've acquired a lot more fans over the years via X-Files DVDs, and I guarantee that not one of them has been thinking, "this is great, but what I'd really like to see is Amanda Peet and Xibit". Not one.

Here's hoping this is some kind of stunt casting for characters who'll be "redshirt" victims in the first 5 minutes of the film, and then gone.

I'm definitely going to check the reviews before I buy a ticket to see this. X-Files was amazing in it's early days. Genuine must-see television, but as the seasons rolled on it became pretty plain that they had no idea where they were taking it. The film was just more of the same, with a better supporting cast (which looks to be what they're doing this time). I'm just not that interested in seeing Mulder and Scully so much that I'll sit through another story that goes absolutely nowhere.

Most people even don't remember the whole alien invasion/2012 storyline or they either stopped watching the show. I'm not too worry about xbhibit being in the movie cause i know it will still be a mulder and scully movie. Whoever else they get for the movie won't have that much screen time. They can do the whole 2012 thing in the next xfiles movie. Oh yeah, the speed racer trailer rocks!!

by Prof. Pop-Cult
Dec 7th, 2007
02:33:23 AM
There's a whole bunch of other FBI personnel from the original series, including the character Cary Elwes played. I like the idea of Frank Black in this, but I'm already predicting it will be for an "obvious" role: Mulder consults Frank about a case Frank investigated early in his career with the FBI, which could be connected to the case Mulder and Scully are investigating in this movie. And I predict Frank Black will die in this movie.

Replacing Dogget and Reyes?
by Prof. Pop-Cult

Or maybe Carter intended to have Dogget and Reyes in the movie, but Fox said no -- they wanted a younger, hipper pair. So Xzibit and Peet were brought in and new characters were created for them. Maybe they'll replace Skinner's part with a new one played by Morgan Freeman.

...those are the only two characters I really care about after Mulder and Scully, so I'd love to see them pop up in this in some capacity, and the bigger the appearance the better. And unlike so many of the X-Files supporting cast, I personally think that they are also about the only supporting characters that weren't pretty much played out by the time X-Files and Millennium finished their runs.

Unfortunately Robert Patrick has said that he's not in any way invloved with the movie, which is a damn shame if true, though at least Henriksen has been hinting that he might make an appearance...we'll see I guess.

well i would also prefer the "other agents" be them but going by what happened in the final episode, and how this is supposed to be stand alone, they'd have no place here. as for skinner, last we saw he walked into an office and nobody knows if he got fired or killed or something new. so i'm pretty sure mulder and scully will be the only true connection to the series, i do hope im wrong cuz i think skinner at the least should be there. and since we now know the FBI is involved in the story, i wonder if they'll take the opportunity to tie up those tiny loose ends regarding the agency. but most likely those agents will just show up wherever the story takes place and that'll be it. anyway i'm psyched, i could care less about those actors, im just glad to see another movie. and if it ends up being bad, well least they made one and tried.

You cacks never cease to amaze me. It was the definitive television show of the 1990s -- it was brilliant. And for the record, the end was brilliant. Although I never cared for Reyes, I thought Doggett added a lot of depth in the last couple seasons. To the best of my knowledge, this is a stand-alone storyline which could take place at any time within the X-Files chain of events. As of the last episode, Mulder and Scully were on the run and all their FBI cohorts had sold them selves out to help Mulder escape execution. Obviously, this film does not take place AFTER those events.

Don't dismiss an entire musical genre just because the popular stuff is shit. As far as rappers turned actors I tend to agree. Mos De (who's a damn good rapper) is a mediocre actor, but even he's much better than most. Musicians should avoid acting and actors should avoid music.

No Resolution
by Cobbio
Dec 7th, 2007
03:15:24 PM
There is NO ending or resolution to the X-Files. Not in anyone's desk drawer or file directory. The meandering story bit off more than it could swallow, doubling back on itself numerous times as it tried to convince viewers it knew where it was going.

The problem was, it was flailing without a guiding light. Chris Carter simply screwed the pooch. He didn't plan well and the show fell apart.

Lots of people, including myself, would love to see resolution to the show's larger issues. But that ain't going to happen. I still enjoy The X-Files for what it was: a deeply flawed but compelling examination of the paranormal. Like other talkbackers here, I enjoy watching the occasional X-Files episode late at night. Scully and Mulder's arguments always crack me up, and the mystery of whatever they're investigating generally hooks me like a fish.

But there's no resolution. There never was. It's like "The Sopranos."

But I hope they at least give us a good story with this new film. Xzibit should help.

I initially thought the series finale was a big let-down - but then again I'm also a Twin Peaks Freak, so I'm used to unresolved cliffhangers. Maybe Carter and Co. are testing the waters to see if there is enough of an audience for a new feature (I believe there still is) before putting a trillion dollars into an alien invasion epic. I'm still holding out hope for "X-FILES: 2012" anyway. Imagine...the government becomes so desparate to fend off the coming takeover that they ask for Mulder & Scully for help. M & S decline, until the suprise arrival of their long-lost son William (leading a band of resistance fighters) convinces them to truly "fight the future"....

seems like they're just trying to get some dark faces in seats, if you'll pardon my crudeness. Beyonce in a Pink Fucking Panther film being the most obvious example. that being said, I like hip-hop and R&B, and really liked Xzibit in that movie where Belluci's husband fucked Rachel Geller in that hotel. but you don't see them putting Sally Field or Julie Roberts in "urban" films just to balance things out.

When did Robert Patrick say this?!?! Aw, man. I'm with you, after Mulder and Scully, I want to see Doggett, Frank Black, and Skinner. Nothing can be done, I guess, since the script's done and the WGA's on strike.

I'm not exactly psyched about the names. And yeah, Robert Patrick needs to be in the film in some form or fashion - not to mention Mitch Pillegi.
But there's no resolution. There never was. It's like "The Sopra

I disagree. To me, the X-Files had a very definite resolution. It just had a bit of a stink on it because they had to include Doggett (sp?) and Reyes (sp?). And they did explain almost every bit of the mythology -- in fact, they spent almost an entire episode spelling it out. Only that also kind of sucked because of the "second conspiracy" they tacked on. And I hate to see that compared with "The Sopranos" which, instead of making a sad attempt at recapturing what made earlier seasons great, grew and evolved into something more complicated, mature and interesting. I know it's not really a fair comparison because who knows what Chris Carter might have done if his show hadn't aired on a network that was hell-bent on dragging the show several seasons beyond its natural life, but that doesn't change the way I feel about those last two seasons and how they diluted the greatness of one of the greatest shows ever to air on TV. And "Closure"? "Closure" pisses me off more than anything else they ever did. They took the fuel for almost everything Mulder did and turned it into a lame ghost story. I can't think of anything more insulting. Anyways... I'll watch the new X-Files movie. Probably no matter what, because I want to believe.

You're right on about "Closure". It felt like a cheat, although the final episode ("The Truth", I believe) did a bit to make up for it.

Damn right. You can't have creepy, atmospheric tv-drama shot against bright blue skies and desert scrub. You need shadowy woods and gloomy rain. Also, you need the show's stars to bother dressing up like their characters, which Duchovny got lazy about in LA. I swear that in that snake-handling episode, Duchovny was wearing a very un-mulderlike brown silk shirt.

Ach, what wasteful details crowd my brain.

Flavor Flav added to cast!

AP (Hollywood)-Reality-television star Flavor Flav announced today he will be playing an FBI agent in the upcoming X-Files 2 movie. He agreed to not wear his fake gold teeth and 10 rings, but said he will not take off the Viking helmet or large clock that hangs around his neck. Producers agreed to his requests and will somehow have to write into the script why this FBI agent wears a Viking helmet and clock as accessories to his trenchcoat and suit.Producers were said to be relieved that he did not demand to wear his diamond encrusted crown and cape, as that would just be, "too weird!".

while ignoring the mythology. I'm more interested in a resolution to Mulder and Scully's relationship than the fifth resolution to the mythology. I also heard a rumour that the movie will follow a different pair of FBI agents for the first third of the film before we even see Mulder and Scully. The rumour also stated that David Bowie will show up for no reason and the screen will go all wonky, so I think they might have been describing another film.

disappointing. Episodes like closure make me wish they had kept the truth "out there." That being said, all the run up to the answers were pretty damn good. The same thing will probably happen to Lost. I can't claim to be totally satisfied with The Prisoner or Twin Peaks's finale either. Part of it is the fact that you have years of build up and no matter what the payoff is going to seem somewhat disappointing.

Hopefully this'll be a "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me" situation where one or both of the new people introduced at the beginning get killed off or disappear into another dimension before the main story kicks in.

rbatty024, I agree to a large extent. But the finale to Twin Peaks, in my opinion, was a though-provoking and brilliant cliffhanger that the showrunners and David Lynch assumed would force the network's hand and give them a next season. I mean, come on - I'm not gonna spoil it for everyone else, but I think the last moments of that show are pretty fucking spectacular.

And the pseudo-racist comments on the rest of this thread should not have been as surprising to me as they were.

Does anyone else feel like Duchovney's taking a step-back after playing such a fleshed out character like Hank Moody on Californication. Just feels like going back and banging one of your ex-girlfriends after you've married a kick-ass wife. Sure it's nice and nostalgic, but you've moved on... thoughts?
