Before someone asks what that is...it's the best Joker episode from the Fox version of Batman: The Animated Series. It was first "new" Joker episode that was recorded and produced after that abysmal first few episodes that were created before Hamill found his "voice." Even he admits those first sessions were awful, and the animation in all of those shows was awful Akom Productions crap.

Sounds like the Dark Knight will actually be...well...dark. The theatrical world of Batman longs to show the high contrast between good and evil and the shades of grey that drive it's namesake and torment Bruce Wayne. The Joker is Batman's ultimate nemesis because he gets his kicks killing and fucking with people as an inside joke that only he finds funny. I look forward to seeing these two titans squaring off and getting inside each others heads.

People are so fickle. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of people who actually admitted they HATED Nicholson's Joker prior to six months ago (because I did, and REALLY "have made no secret" of it over the years). Now, finally that we appear to have a proper Joker coming, we'll be hearing a lot more of "Never liked Nicholson's Joker" from people. BTW before that helpful talkbacker posted the MTV link, I TRIED getting to the article via Batman on Film, but it's wortse than useless. If you can even manage to READ the microscopic type, the links don't often work, or are mixed up. Jett should pay less attention to his gay-ass football and more on the subject matter of his website.

BTW not only do I not like Nicholson's Joker, I don't like ANY mass-media Joker, including Ted Knight's, Mark Hamill's etc. THE JOKER IS NOT "FUNNY." The WHOLE POINT of the Joker is that everything he does is HORRIFFIC and it's funny TO HIM. Problem is, he's such a popular character that he gets Dr. Smith-ized, toned down, made "acceptable." He was a vicious killer in Batman #1 but by the mid-40s he was a "funny" villain. Revived as a killer in the early 70s (Batman 251 & Brave & Bold 111) he was a "funny" villain within two years (Batman 260 and B&B 118) although he was still a killer. I'm thrilled to see we will FINALLY get "Scary Joker" as barely hinted at in the 90s animated series and seen for exactly one moment in Batman '89 ("Wait'll they Get A Load of Me." What we got was a load of crap.

NEW YORK — If the opening frames of "The Dark Knight" are any indication, Batman will have his hands full come June. The Joker is on the loose, and MTV News has seen just how devilishly maniacal and dangerous he can be. On Sunday night, a small crowd in New York gathered to watch the first six minutes of director Christopher Nolan's eagerly awaited sequel to "Batman Begins" and, holy extended trailer, the footage did not disappoint. Introduced by the beaming director and displayed on an 80-foot-tall IMAX screen, the opening of the film welcomed Heath Ledger's Joker to the Nolan/Batman universe. And it was clear from the start, much as you might have loved Jack Nicholson's villain, the purple-clad bad man won't have the time or inclination to dance to Prince this time around. Nolan spoke at length with MTV News immediately prior to and following the special event, clearly proud of his new villain. "I think what Heath is doing is very adventurous," he said. "What he's doing is very radical. It's very much what I wanted. I knew I needed someone really fearless." The opening sequence — specially filmed in the IMAX format, and set to debut December 14 with prints of "I Am Legend" in theaters — fulfilled a dream for Nolan, who said he had been wanting to shoot in the format for 15 years. "In the finished film, there will be four or five IMAX sequences," Nolan explained. He continued excitedly before the screening: "Everything about doing this in the IMAX format is trying to get that feeling back when I was a little kid when I'd sit in a movie theater and see images that were larger than life. That's what I'm trying to get back to with this material. I felt like introducing the Joker in this way because he's such a huge character [and it] would be a very fun thing to do." But Nolan also revealed that not all the IMAX scenes will be action-filled. "Some of them are actually quiet scenes which pictorially we thought would be interesting. It's not all the slam-bam scenes," he said. As the lights dimmed, the first images were revealed, of a gleaming and bright Gotham City. The camera moves in close on a building when suddenly the calm is shattered, quite literally, by a broken window. A group of clown-mask-clad robbers are about to seize a bank. They bicker about the mysterious man who has employed them. "Why do they call him the Joker?" one asks another. It's a refrain almost identical to those rooftop thugs who wonder about the mysterious "bat" in the opening frames of Tim Burton's "Batman." Soon we are inside the bank as a tense standoff is under way. None of the employees resist, save one played by character-actor extraordinaire William Fichtner. This is a mob bank, we learn, and the wrong place to mess with, even for a group of seasoned criminals. The controlled heist degenerates into a mess quickly enough, with each of the robbers mysteriously getting taken out. But it's not Batman knocking them off — rather, it's one of the robbers themselves. Just as the final two robbers are set to leave, one pulls a gun on the other. "I bet the Joker told you to kill me as soon as we loaded the cash," he says, clearly with the upper hand. The eerily calm but playful response comes. "No, no, no. He killed the bus driver." Before the gun-toting clown can finish asking, "What bus driver?," he is taken out by a school bus crashing into the bank. "School's out. Time to go!" screams the sole survivor of the gang. All that remains for him is the bank employee (Fichtner) lying at his feet. By now we're pretty sure these are going to be his last words: "The criminals in this town used to believe in things. Honor. Respect. What do you believe in?" He screams it again, louder, "What do you believe in?" And the mask comes off. The grinning, scarred face of the Joker is revealed at last. His face filled the 8-story-high screen as the clip played. "I believe whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you ...," he said. He pauses on the last word: " ... stranger." As the Joker made his getaway, the sequence ended, but before the lights returned, the audience was treated to quick tantalizing flashes of the rest of the film. The Joker firing what looks to be an automatic weapon in a city street. Police Commissioner Gordon raising an ax dramatically. Batman whizzing by in his batpod. And finally, Gordon lowering the ax, destroying what we see now was the bat signal. Troubled times clearly await in Gotham. And it's clear who's to blame. Nolan explained to MTV News that the Joker we meet in "The Dark Knight" is fully formed. Don't look for an origin story here. "To me, the Joker is an absolute," he said. "There are no shades of gray to him — maybe shades of purple. He's unbelievably dark. He bursts in just as he did in the comics." Though there was no sign of much of the supporting cast in this extended preview, Nolan stressed there's much more to the story. Asked about Aaron Eckhart's Harvey "Two-Face" Dent, the director said "his story is in some ways the backbone of the film. [Bruce Wayne and Harvey] have an interesting relationship. They're friends and rivals." And what about the caped crusader we left at the end of "Batman Begins"? Nolan explained that "he's a little more sure of himself" in the new film. "We didn't want him sitting around wrestling with the same angst. It's all-new angst," he laughed. Nolan, who wrapped filming just two weeks ago, said he's shooting for a running time comparable to the first film's 140 minutes. Congratulated on the ambitious slam-bang start to his sequel, MTV News asked if the next six minutes could help but live up to the first. The director smiled and sighed nearly in unison. "That's what I'm working on now."

Apparently there was a six minute preview of The Dark Knight in IMAX here on my home court NYC and of course we weren't invited as usual but reader Rico The Honduran went and sent us his report. Thanks Rico. Here is what he had to say: Hey guys, I work for a major media outlet and can't officially comment on this film so I'm giving you guys the scoop because I noticed that websites run by minorities are never given their due respect. Christopher Nolan and the powers that be at Warner Bros. have put together a six-minute prologue from next summer's "The Dark Knight" in IMAX. Apparently a few portions of this film have been shot in the revolutionary format and will be a part of its run in IMAX theaters. IMAX is a 70mm frame turned on its side, allowing greater exposed image area and resolution. Starting with "The Matrix Reloaded" in 2003, if you saw a regular 35mm film blown up in IMAX it wasn't cropped but letterboxed like it might appear on your TV screen to recreate the film's original aspect ratio. "Batman Begins" was the first Batman film ever shot in the "scope" 2.40: 1 aspect ratio and when "The Dark Knight" opens, much of the film in IMAX will be letterboxed to recreate that same ratio. After a few cocktails to put the small audience in the comic-book-movie mode, the presentation started about 20 minutes late. I thought the prologue was being presented by some IMAX rep, but if it weren't for his British accent I wouldn't have realized that our host standing under bright lights was none other than director Christopher Nolan. Nolan's probably the reason the presentation started late, but I didn't care because he's warm yet frank about his ideas for his films. He stated the IMAX format was developed in 1970, the same year he was born, and that he's wanted to work with it for about fifteen years. Just as he was reluctant to show 20 minutes of footage from the film at Wizard World recently, Nolan seemed to have the same attitude here. Can you blame him though? He's trying to finish working on a complicated production and the big execs want him to showcase an unfinished product. According to Nolan "The Dark Knight" will be projected in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio on IMAX screens and about four or five sequences specifically shot in IMAX will be full screen in the 1.43:1 aspect ratio. Your field of vision will be filled vertically as well as horizontally. I got the sense that Nolan wants to "wow" audiences just as Cinemascope and Cinerama did back in the fifties. The presentation began with the Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures logos, not in black and white like the first film, but appearing out of bursting flames with a blue hue. The picture dramatically cuts to full screen as the camera swoops down on an afternoon shot of a glass office tower in Gotham City (really Chicago). Two men wearing clown-faced masks shatter a window, fire a cable and rappel from the tower to the roof of a smaller building across the street. This is a robbery ladies and gentlemen and these two are tasked with disabling the alarm system of the bank below. On the street, three other robbers masked as clowns drive up to the front of the bank. They are each aware that they've been hired by the mysterious "Joker" and have specific tasks to perform. For one of them, it’s to shoot his accomplice dead once he's disabled that alarm on the roof. As the group enters the bank with shotguns blazing, we get the notion they don't really know just who this "Joker" is. To keep the hands of the employees and patrons of the bank busy, the hostages are each given a live grenade to hold on to. What they don't really notice is that the bank manager is William Fitchner and he's at his desk behind a glass partition eyeing them carefully. In the bank vault, two of the robbers discuss that this "Joker" must really be crazy because the bank is full of mob money. When one asks the other what happened to the guy who was to take out the electronic security system box on the roof, he tells him the Joker said to kill him when the job was done. "Good," he says, "Because he told me the same thing about you," and puts a bullet in the back of his head. (Off camera of course, this is gonna be a PG-13 movie after all). While the other masked robbers are on the main floor with the hostages, our bank manager Mr. Fitchner reveals himself along with a shotgun and starts walking towards them blasting away. With another one of their guys now dead, two robbers hide behind a partition. "He's out of ammo right?", one asks the other before Fitchner reveals he has one more round left. With the click of his empty barrel, one of the robbers shoots Fitchner in the gut and asks his colleague, "can't you count?" With money in hand and only two of them left, one crook points a gun at the back of the head of the other and says "I know, the Joker asked you to kill me, just as he asked me to kill you." "Actually," the other replies," I'm supposed to kill the driver." "What driver?" the guy asks, just in time to be run down by the rear end of the yellow school bus that smashes through the front of the bank. As the last of the bunch, our final robber shoots that driver dead when he pops out the back of the bus and proceeds to gather up the bags of money. Slowly bleeding to death, Fitchner snarls about how criminals once had class and a sense of honor. Sympathizing with the man's plight, the last robber exclaims that he feels "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stranger", before pulling off his mask and revealing himself to be the Joker. Actually its Heath Ledger with white face paint and red lipstick smeared across his lips that are seriously scarred at their corners. Nolan did state before the presentation began that the film featured "Heath Ledger's interpretation of the Joker." So Jack Nicholson can stop whinning. Mr. Personality places a grenade into the dying Fitchner's mouth with a string tied to it that's also hooked up to the back door of the bus. As the string pulls the pin from the grenade with the departure of the bus, it’s revealed not to be a live grenade, but a smoker that emits harmless green gas. Our robber pulls out onto the street in front with his getaway vehicle and blends into a convoy of yellow school buses that just happen to be passing by. SCHOOL'S OUT!! The entire presentation is six minutes long and is to be shown preceding the theatrical IMAX release for the Will Smith vehicle "I Am Legend". Nolan stated he hopes the prologue will run before other IMAX films in the months before the film's release in July. Though it was nice to see footage from a new Batman film in IMAX, this little film was not really that exciting nor did it show the potential or scope of the format. This might be just a little teaser and hopefully when the movie comes out the other three or four IMAX sequences will be action packed. Let's not forget this is an expensive process after all. Hans Zimmer is once again slated to score the film, but this little teaser featured a rock and roll type theme that was almost out of "Mission: Impossible 2". As it drew to a close, we were presented with a brief montage of shots that were underscored by that piece of music where Bruce Wayne faces his fear of bats when he discovers the batcave in the first film: The Batmobile racing down dark city streets. A medium shot of the Joker walking down a street and firing a submachine gun. A shot of the Batmobile performing a U-turn in a large indoor chamber with florescent-squared lights on the ceiling. Another shot of the Batmobile, followed by a shot of the Dark Knight, cape billowing and racing toward the camera on the Batpod or Batcycle (which we don't see eject from the Batmobile). Twilight shot of Lieutenant Gordon surrounded by teams of cops and police cruisers on a rainy blue-tinted city street. Far shot of Batman high atop a building edge on a blue-tinted rainy day with one hand to his ear. (Probably listening to police band communications.) Final shot-- Same shot of Gordon with the police force again, this time with a fireman’s axe in his hand, which he brings down to smash...the Bat-signal!! "Show it again!” someone shouted when it was over. "Unfortunately it takes half an hour to rewind the film," Nolan informed us. It looks like this second chapter will be a dark and dramatic time for our hero indeed. It wasn't till this preview was over that I realized the title "The Dark Knight" doesn't just refer to out hero, but the dark night and times ahead. The rapid-fire shots of that very brief montage not only got me hyped up to see the movie, but made me want to go home and listen to the soundtrack score for the first film. Seven months?!! Why can't July get here fast enough? Thank you Chis Nolan and may Bryan Singer burn in hell for destroying the Superman legend.

I know it's received a lot of flak from the geek world and will continue to do so until the end of time, but I love the '89 film. I was really young at the time it was released and it knocked my socks off in a truly spectacular way. I have since watched it many, many times and still love it. I understand the problems people have with Nicholson's take on the Joker and with the whole Joker-killing-Bruce's-parents bit, but for me, it works as an original interpretation of the characters and the world of Gotham. I love the opening of the movie dearly and I think Michael Keaton brought the perfect mixture of bottled-up angst, explosive charisma, and confident bad-ass-ness (okay, I totally made that word up) to the roles of Bruce Wayne and Batman. And while Nicholson's Joker has some funny moments, I still find the guy scary as shit. He does crack silly jokes throughout the movie, but I think he sells himself as a sadistic, murderous fuck first and foremost. Plus, he does have some great lines, as mentioned by a talkbacker way above (I'd like to add "where does he get those toys?!" to the list). I personally love the pace and look of the movie and am always intrigued by the time-warp-style design (the Axis chemicals building looks especially like something lifted out of the 40s). Plus, I think the movie has a great ending, with the Joker's parade, the introduction of the Batwing, and the whole affair inside the towering cathedral. The movie is certainly not a dead-on representation of its source material, but I find it to be an altogether exciting and engaging comic book movie. But that's just me. I just wanted to throw my two cents in on that one. As for The Dark Knight, I can't fucking wait. Batman Begins was great and I've loved the casting of Heath Ledger since the first moment I read the announcement. I think this opening sounds pretty damn cool and I hope this movie kicks my ass all over the place next summer.

When it was released, all you heard from people was how great he was as the Joker. How he stole the show and was wonderful. I think the only ones complaining now are comic purists who can't stand to see any version of a character but the one they prefer. And make no mistake: there is no definitive Joker. Too many different versions over the years, and that includes the comics. All you can ever really talk about is your favorite interpretation, not the "best" or correct version. This will be the Nolan version, and it does sound interesting.

Batman'89 is pretty much up there with the original Superman flick when it come to comics flicks. It really IS the pattern that most-if-not-all following adaptations tried to sheepishly follow (for the mediocre ones) or put in the "obsolete" box (for the best ones). We're almost 20 years later now, and the movie still looks mostly good (the art direction - and sets in particular - were superb, you can't argue with that), the performances hold up very well and it doesn't feel too 80's. Schumacher's Batmans, on the contrary, were dated the minute they were released on home video. Nicholson gives ONE interpretation, the way Heath Ledger will give ONE interpretation of the Joker. Or Bob Downey will give ONE interpretation of Tony Stark. There's no such thing as "absolute" interpretation.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie. Those pictures they released yesterday of the Joker actually looked creepy, which is a good thing. Seriously, the character's been around forever, and he's bound to have gone through different incarnations. I don't see any of them as "definitive." Once you make something "definitive," you kill it. I love Jack Nicholson as the Joker. He was scary and funny and it was a Tim Burton movie, so of course it was really all about him, but he completely embodied the spirit of the character. He laughed, he gleefully killed a whole bunch of people, molested high culture, and was generally a vicious, giggling psychopath. I love the Mark Hamill Joker, too- I will always hear his voice in my head when I read the character, and even though, it being A CHILDREN'S SHOW, he rarely successfully killed anyone, the intent was there. Mask of the Phantasm had him spot on, likewise Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. He kills people in a way that he finds funny. He laughs at the horrors he inflicts. What's wrong with that? And I'm fully prepared to love the Heath Ledger Joker. I was a little let down when I heard he was cast, because so many of the rumors sounded so amazing, but you can't judge the liver until the goose is dead, so I'll wait and see. He's a great character, and I look forward to seeing him realized again.

That movie: not very good. What scene do I instantly think of when I consider that movie? The one of the Joker spraypainting the "Blue Boy"in Gotham's art museum while Prince is playing on a boombox. There's cool stuff in that movie, like the batwing and I don't even mind some of Nicholson's Hamasaurus rex acting (though a lot of it is just weak). And Micheal Keaton and all the "guest stars" were nice. And how I wish that Billy Dee got to play Two-Face. But Vicki Vale—lame. The Joker's schemes—lame. ("Love that Joker!") Bruce Wayne sleeping upsidedown—lame. The Joker's really long pistol—lame. And isn;t there a parade where everyone is cheering the Joker on? If so—lame. And don't even get me started on "At least I don't have blood gushing from my nose" or any of the other sequals. Gimme the first several seasons of the Dini/Timm cartoon anyday.

Well, Burton should have gone the effort of portraying it, but having mass-produced beauty products tainted so they poison women with grins and kills them sounds pretty vicious to me. And given Batman's response to that situation, at least a few hundred women should have died like that news anchor. Not to mention his flaunting the deed on a hijacked-airwaves commercial. It's a little like saying more people died in "Return of the Jedi" because the Death Star was still in construction, but it's a worthy homage to the character, in my opinion. That scene, anyway.

Look at Gotham City. Burton's vision was German expressionist meets a retro-futuristic dystopia. Blade Runner meets Metropolis (the Fritz Lang movie, not the city where Superman lives). Nolan's vision....Chicago. The casting of Batman- okay sure, a slightly younger, more buff and better trained dude playing Bruce Wayne makes more sense. But Michael Keaton? WTF? But it worked. He really came off as the borderline psychopath that is Batman and no one has played the Bruce Wayne side of the character better. And The Joker sucked but I can't believe that Nicholson would have been Burton's first choice. That had to have been forced on him. Having said all that, the new franchise is awesome. You can't out-weird Burton so the logical move would be to try to make it more realistic and they've done a great job so far. But comparing Nolan and Burton is really apples and oranges.

I guess those that don't like that seminal first Batman flick prefer the other superhero films and TV shows that preceded it. Think about the campy atrocity that was the 60s Batman series. The Wonder Woman series was also a campfest (although Lynda Carter was good). The Incredible Hulk - not bad, but nothing in common with the comics past the basic premise. The lameo Spider-Man series. The mediocre Supergirl movie. The inept Superman IV. The limp Superboy series. Apart from the awesome first two Superman movies (and I confess to a sneaky liking of Superman III), superheroes had been very poorly realised on screen prior to the 1989 Batman. This was a serious take on the character from a great director, and literally nothing had been seen like it before. It was a massive box office success, critically well-received, a genuine pop culture phenomenon, and hugely influential. Batman Begins, though superior to Schumacher's efforts, didn't come close. I am looking forward to TDK though as I think it will be a better film.

I enjoyed the revised tone of 'Begins' - a little darker (and dare I say Burtonesque) than its predecessors. But unfortunately, I felt that it eventually succumbed to the tired Hollywood formula for action flicks. As far as viewing an action flick of this caliber at an IMAX theater, I'm pumped - but I don't expect the film to floor me from an artistic standpoint the way that Burton's film did. Even the short film/preview sounds a bit contrived...

The theatricality of Steve Englehart and Denny O'Neil's Joker from the 1970's. The dapper style and narcissism of the early 1980's Joker all rolled into one. It was a great performance for that time you couldn't honestly come up with a better Joker. Especially considering Killing Joke which once again reinvented him came just a couple of months before production on Burton's movie.

The character has been portrayed many ways in the history of the comics. I personally enjoyed the hell out of Nicholson's Joker. That said, I personally find the Killing Joke to be the most 'definitive' to me. I really don't understand it. I think it's Marvel Zombies not realizing that DC characters never stay constant and always evolve. There is no definitive Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern etc. cause those characters constantly go through evolutions and retcons that's why I always loved DC. It wasn't about cartoon characters with a consistent M.O. like Marvel (not that there is anything wrong with that) it's about the characters fitting whatever the storyline calls for. Storytelling above everything else. That's why I'm a DC guy the characters constantly grow and evolve with us instead of staying the same and becoming redundant because of that. So to see people bitching about Batman killing or The Joker being hammy cracks me up simply because it has happened in the comics more than once. It's not unfaithful just one of the many interpretations. I really don't like Heath Ledger. I think he's an overhyped pretty boy who can't act for shit but I am willing to give him a chance cuz the Batman Begins was a good movie. The only reason it wasn't great cuz the action scenes were shot horribly. The camera angles were too close and it was almost like they shot it wrong and had to quick edit it to get all the kinks out. It almost totally ruined the entire film for me and for many of my friends and yes I am a batman afficionado. So if they get that right in this one it should be good. But people here saying it's gonna be GREAT and such really need to calm down and take a close look at the flaws of the first film.

He was an excellent portrayal of the Joker - numerous quotable and well read lines, but still had a sense of menace about him. I liked his little nutjob present for Vicki Vale - the mannequin hand with the dead flowers - that was just a cool little insight into his mind. And to the guy who called the giant-barreled gun lame - how dare you sir? Great gag, great image and fitted the character perfectly...who else would be insane enough to think to bring a gun that size, just in case he needed it?

Don't kill the Joker, or any of the villains off. If Nolan has got any sense, he'd have got his Joker origin scenes in the bag now. I know that this is supposed to be a trilogy, with Dent becoming Two-Face for the finale, but this can stretch to two more films. I nominate a near-literal retelling of "A Killing Joke" for the fourth movie, and a much later "Dark Knight Returns" as the fifth.

I think it goes against the character of the Joker to make him look like a septigenarian drag queen after a bender. I always thought that Mark Hamill was the best Joker even when he was playing the Trickster on The Flash TV series. He was silly and ridiculous looking but that was juxtuposed by the horiffically twisted things he did. Hanging a man to make him an example of what happens when the rest of the hostages don't sing as he fills his shopping bag with vanishing cream and itching powder? THAT is scarily detatched from reality AND quite theatrical at the same time. THAT is what I think of when I think of the Joker. Why not just have rotting flesh falling off of the Joker's bared skull and musculature if you think that is more "real" "scary" and "dark"? The Joker should be a monster on the INSIDE!

I think Bale has done a good job with his interpretation of the character and he certainly makes interesting choices, i.e. his voice when in the Batsuit. I read somewhere that Bale is becoming this generations Harrison Ford. He is inhabiting two very iconic action/adventure character, Batman and now John Connor. This is like Ford with Indiana Jones and Han Solo. Anyone agree?

These are Batman movies, not cheesy Arnold or Sly movies. They shouldn't be remembered for "Funny" or "Cool" one-liners. The should be remembered for characterisation, tone, action set pieces etc. If you want a film with quotable lines Mike Myres has a new movie coming out soon. I must also chime in on the batman '89 debate. The film is dated and a sad indiciation of how comic book properties where handled pre-Blade in Hollywood. The fact that Nicholson took top billing over Keaton, who was playing the title character, showed that it was nothing more than a phoned-in, over-the-top performance from ol' Jack. Best forgetten and should certainly never be compared to Batman Begins or Ledger. I canny wait!!!!!

just didn't work for some of us. Not to say I didn't enjoy it, sure I did. But "guy in bat suit" will only work in a more fantastic setting for me - like Batman Returns. Look at the Killing Joke. Favorite Batman story (even if Alan Moore hates it now) and the characters clearly acknowledge the comic book world they're living in - the countless times Batman and Jokes should've killed each other, but didn't. It's a world where Joker has no trouble going around "buying" property and contract a bunch of circus freaks to do his bidding. In a world like that, Batman works, I can see the police and the underworld taking seriously someone with pointy ears. That's where I'm a bit uncomfortable with Begins. Can't wait for the TDK though.

So I am in the camp of Joker haters. Everything I've seen of Ledger (other than the suit) I've disliked. I think he looks like a washed up high school theatre teacher with that sad makeup and hair. I was talking to a friend of mine and he thinks that Nolan is messing with us. That Heath Ledger will NOT be the Joker. He'll be the "Joker" in the first scene that was described above, but it will be William Fincher who actually BECOMES the Joker we know and love as a result of the bank robbery described in the article. It sounds absolutely crazy, but the marketing on this game has been so twisty-turny, that it kind of makes sense. Fincher is a pretty high-profile actor and he looks much more like the Joker than Ledger. Could it be that Ledger's Joker gets replaced with Fincher's? That would be completely awesome...

The whole Smilex scheme came across as more comical than diabolical. When you saw Joker's TV ad for Smilex with him dancing in a grocery store aisle, you laughed instead of thinking, "What a mean sonofabitch." The movie should have been more violent (shown blood) and Joker should have personally murdered more people. Not just kill them as in, "bang your dead," but MURDER them. And the line about dancing with the devil in the pale moon light was overused and lacked the dramatic effect I'm sure Burton intended. Plus, Kim Bassinger was not nude. That's a huge problem. It's like not driving a fancy car that was made for speed, but rather just washing it in a driveway. Oh, and there should have been a couple more hand-to-hand combat fight scenes, with moves that aren't so stiff. Overall, I liked the movie. At the time, I loved it. I thought Michael Douglas did a great job as Bruce / Bats.

Forget about the sharkfinned Shumacher ones...they had open VENTS with neons lights glowing! It looks like it'd break down in the rain! The Burtonmobile conquers them all. Okay, it can't corner well...but thats what it is, a muscle car...a drag machine. Remember, before the Burtonmachine the common image of the Batmobile on screens (at least for me) was the Adam West thing...which was also a long, full-sized coupe with a ton of horsepower. They were (fictional) muscle cars... The Batman Begins machine looks like it'd tip over like an SUV, despite that large wheels. Actually, it reminds me of those remote control cars that tip over everwhere and spin around. But what do you expect Batman to be driving, a Subaru WRX Sti?? A little cornering rally car?That kind of goes against historical on-screen Batmobiles. Imagery is important, especially for the Burton films. Above all else, it must LOOK stylish. The Burtonmachine was muscle car looking beast with those spinning turbine things and fire coming out the back...I'll take that over the realistic handling of some Subaru.
