I would have liked them to go more retro if this is their final product, but I doubt it is.

i can see where they're going with the retro look, but its not that great. Doesn't look too teaslistic to me... i miss the old models on lines...

There have been renders of this quality coming out on the net since the advent of the internet - I've still got some of them. It may be the new Enterprise, but this can't be anything more than an early mock-up.

I believe this is a render that Gabriel Koerner did some time ago, before the new Trek film was announced. He works for Eden FX and did CGI work on Superman Returns, Lost and Alias. His website is here: http://www.gabekoerner.com/fx/ index.htm Given that he has done work on Lost, perhaps J.J. Abrams has brought him on board for the new Trek film?

He's a fan and graphic designer but I don't think he's involved with ST XI. Here's a clip he made from the Intertron. It looks like the same ship to me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =zGD6d921Ut4&feature=related

Looks like the same one flyingsparks is talking about. It's good, don't get me wrong, and it sure as hell looks like what someone trying to copy the general texture of the Enterprise E would do to a new Enterprise design. But, I'm kind of expecting something much worse will be used in the final movie.

Have to admit, his design is pretty sweet, it'd be great if they incorporated some (or all!) of his ideas. Just hope they don't change it TOO much...

There is not a ship that looks like that in any of the movies or shows...and it looks really bad to be the new Enterprise. The design is too Next Gen-ish and the saucer looks too small. Its fanboy I agree.

I get recasting the actors, and writing a new story, but why change an iconic design? Just add more detail, don't make the nacelles clear. Yuck.

It looks close to the proposed re imagining of the 1701. They said it would retain the same lines but the surface would make it very apparent that it's separate pieces of metal welded/joined together ... kinda like an aircraft carrier I guess. Either way, the nacells look like the lighted ones they were going for later on in the series so I don't know how that fits in but the 1701 refit had light up nacells too. I'll say it looks cool as a model but it can't be the finished product.
Just saw the work of Gabe Koerner online...

This was a picture of a "proposed" refit Enterprise Gabe did for the 2007 Ships of the Line book. He had since fleshed it out up till the point that he got pulled away for Speed Racer. 1) Gabe is NOT doing anything for Star Trek, he is not even a designed on the team. 2) Gabe IS doing Speed Racer, I told Harry this a few months ago but I guess it was not newsworthy enough for Harry to know who was working on Speed Racer.

I think J.J. should start from scratch on the designs. If he wants to do something to pay homage to TOS Enterprise, fine. But he should have the option of doing something completely different if he so desires. That said, Gabe's work here is very nice. I especially like the "transparent nacelles".
The new Enterprise should have a modern design, but...

the picture I can say it is irrelevant. If this is supposed to be the Star Trek prequel, then they need to have it look like the Enterprise as it appeared in TOS up through the motion picture. It's a little thing I like to call continuity.
They should redesign it
by I Dunno
Dec 4th, 2007
06:46:01 PM
They completly redesigned it from TOS to TMP. Sure, they said it was a refit but it was really a redesign like the Klingons were. They should do the same thing now. Seeing the same old ship would be boring.

i mean honestly i think everything we have heard so far indicates this isnt a reboot of the franchise but a prequel.
