"The Time of Heroes is Dead: The Christ God has killed it"

Ironically, we only know the story of Beowulf because Christian Monks preserved the story. Those ANTI HEROIC Christian monks!
Of course, that line is ripped off from Excalibur

The original line was Merlin's. "The one god comes to drive out the many gods, the spirits of wood and stream grow silent. It is a time for man and their ways". The line applied against Christianity in this movie is senseless and bigoted, though.
Gabriel is such a try hard piece of shit...

Basically all it is The Prophecy minus the Walken or Mortensen greatness, filmed in a Matrix style with a goth Crow rainy-day sheen over the top, and some really, really fucking bad acting. Truly fucking awful.
Holy Shit Frank Darabonts next film is ......

The only thing worse than the government-mandated 'glamorous junkies in love' dog-shit that passes for the Australian film industry these days is when locals pile loads of money and Herculean effort in making derivative Hollywood-wannabe garbage like GABRIEL.

'Cause it's fun and the women are hot and actually drink "beer" GASP and SHUDDER in HORROR. No girly drinks in Melbourne.

After making a big point about crediting reviews only when you have one of someone else's to print, you went ahead and credited yourself with the Gabriel review. Might wanna fix that. :^)

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. The correct name has been submitted to the AICN editors and will hopefully be corrected soon!

Is it just me? Was it just the print I saw? I saw the trailer several times at the front of other movies and it looked fine but when I saw the fiolm it self It was grainy as hell, had extremely obvious compression artefacts in bright lights and shadows and basically had shit all contrast. there were no real blacks, just greys! It looked horrible. Not to mention the crappy script, appalling dialogue, wooden acting and inept fight scenes. This was a major disappointment for the local industry and HD cinema in general. The JVC camera they used must be shit.
Gabriel was just horrible

I hate to say it as i wanted so much to like it and to be able to support independent aussie films, especially when they try something as cool as this. You can tell they put in a heap of effort and there are little bits that seem to work, but this is not something i could ever recommend to anybody

I stand by what I said, but I will admit to a problem I have with my own reviews: unless I absolutely love or hate something, my reviews tend to be "It was good, BUT..." or "It was bad, BUT..." with a constant emphasis on the "BUT", therefore giving a possibly skewed impression of what I actually thought of it. I have tried to change my style in this regard, but a leopard can't change its reaction to a *pretty* good gangster film.
