Man Harold...you are the epitome "Rainbow Connection". The lovers, the dreamers and me. You type reviews like drunk dialing. I love to see the passion but remember you have 10,000 geeks watching you wake up with said "love" EVERY TIME. I totally dig the passion behind your reviews...but I wonder what weight the criticism or love holds. I choose to respect the love of all of it...just like I respect a child giggling at a $5 toy. But DAMN, your 3.5 -5 star/B - A reviews REEK of the screening atmosphere and expectations and not a true critique of the actual film.

Then I saw the positive reviews, saw the "That's How You Know" number on the film's website, and I was sold. Anyone mature enough to appreciate (and quite frankly, prefer) "old" 2-D animation will get a big kick out of this. And Amy Adams is perfect.

And for that reason alone I would probably abhor this film. Hearing a musical theatre major talk about Disney is like hearing pederasts talk about little boys, it's just disgusting. It's absurd how much htey overrate things simply because there is music in it totally indiscriminate of whether that music or the rest of the film has any merit. This may be why MOST (not all) musical theatre sucks. Not to mention that as a child I was more into the works of Jim Henson, James Cameron, Spielberg, and Ridley Scott than I was into Disney.

This is a cute film and Amy Adams is wonderful. Even James Marsden gets some big laughs. But, (as I said in my original review http://www.aintitcool.com/node /34128), the rest of the film, while perfect for young kids, just doesn't work. It's a big mess, full of ideas, but clearly written by committee where people threw out fun ideas for scenes while disregarding whether or not the scenes made sense together. If you won't take my word for it, check out Robert Wilonski's review in the Village Voice here: http://www.villagevoice.com/fi lm/0747,wilonsky,78409,20.html . He kind of nails it. He even uses some of the same words I did. If you have little kids, especially girls, take them this week. They'll love it. Anyone else will be charmed to a point but then logic will set in and drive you mad.

But Harry's post title is nearly enough to ruin this for me. I have to agree with the other talkbackers here, Harry has NO perspective. Honestly, I don't know if the big guy could pick out a good film from a bad film if his life depended on it. How many shit films has he absolutely gushed about? GODZILLA, BLADE 2, ATTACK OF THE CLONES just off the top of my head.

So I just watched the trailer again, and it does look like it could be pretty funny and entertaining, but I don't know if I'm gonna be as ENCHANTED as Harry was. And notice I said COULD BE.

I will admit, I kinda miss the old days of Disney, even though Pixar has pretty much stepped up and taken over. I just hope they learn from Disney and don't follow suit. Disney used to be about quality family entertainment, now it's all about the almighty Dollar. Perhaps that's even the way it's always been, but at least they used to earn it. There used to be a time when Disney was indeed "magical." In the end, maybe we shouldn't be so hasty to pan this movie. Maybe this is the one that brings that magic back, even if it is just for one more movie...

If not, well, we've still got Pixar.
Well, anyway...

Turns out to be a huge sucesss, it would be awesome for it to get best oscar. Though it would be a long shot and a controversial. I am just so sick of all these overly dramatic movies getting plastered with "Going to win all the Oscars on it", musicals and comedies are harder to do correct then a drama. And this year musicals have all be top notch. I am not saying that this is going to be my favorite film of the year. It would just be nice to have an Oscar ceremony not congradulating downer movies, even though they are my favorite type of movies.

I was there at the screening last night, and had a good time. I love Disney animation, and love most of the 2-d Disney films. This movie has a lot of the magic of those films, but I didn't feel that the animation of the 2-d world was quite up to Disney standards. It wasn't nearly as good as good as say Beauty and the Beast, or even The Little Mermaid. Some of it had a bit of the Direct to DVD Disney sequel feel to it. I wish the animation would have been a bit better - this is Disney after all, and we need to hold them to the standards of their past - not just accept what they give us. The songs were really good, though. The stand outs being The Working song and the huge musical number in the park as Harry mentioned. I have to admit that I had a pretty big smile on my face at the end of the film, so it delivers on it's promise. It is much better than I was preparing myself for. If you want to re-capture that feeling you had when watching Cinderella or Snow White when you were 8, you will enjoy the movie. If you truly hate Disney musicals - you probably won't dig it. But it's Thanksgiving weekend, and this movie WILL BE HUGE. I agree with Harry that this should be a stand alone film for Disney. To go back and make sequels to this will not be a good thing. I appreciated how this film used the themes of past Disnay movies, but didn't have all the groan inducing pop-comments ala Shrek. Sequels will most likely fall into the same trap. Over all, a great family movie, a perfect date movie, and a lot of fun. Thanks for the screening, AICN and Disney!

Its good to see Disney make something worth while (minus Pixar), because the last animated movie they made that was worth anything was Treasure Planet. I really enjoyed that movie not everyone did, but since then all there animated movies have been crap. Chicken Little? Horrible. The cow movie? never seen it. Also I say that Harry hit his peek with the Blade two review, ever since that review I've never been able to read any other review the same way. That review made me go see Blade 2 again, because i read it after i had already seen it.

Series7 is correct, now that Pixar & John Lasseter have taken over Disney Films, they have thrown out the old model- there will be no more garbage dvd sequels. They WILL be going back to 2-d animation (there is a new short on the Ratatouille DVD that demos some of the new and old styles they will be using) , and will be much more careful about the quality of their live-action product. Basically, everything from here on out will hopefully have the Pixar stamp on it. As Martha S. would say, "THAT'S A VERY GOOD THING."

I would love to go, but you didn't pick me. That's fine. Just don't sling poop in my direction for my opinions. I didn't say your reviews suck. I was simply stating some of your reviews seem to be about the "event" of the screening, which seems to add to the "magic" of the film. For example, I thought "Apocalypto" was a great film. And I'm sure attending a screening with Mel Gibson sitting next to me, drinking genuine Yucatan Jungle Juice, and having topless Mayan women feed me tamales would make me paint the screen with my Mayan Man Milk...BUT...I think some reviewers need to digest a film before they RAVE about it and how it brought their "inner princess" out. You were screwed... completely screwed. Apparently reviews and screenings of Enchanted are not being accompanied by the Goofy short How to Hookup Your Home Theater. I was very concerned about this given how great the short is and how much I want others to see it too. So I did some digging. According to Disney the short will now debut with National Treasure: Book of Secrets on December 21. This is apparently being done to get Disney's new cartoon shorts program more exposure among general moviegoing audiences, rather than just animated film audiences. Something of a mistake in my opinion given that Enchanted is a better family film vehicle. Again, I am truly sorry for you all who will be robbed of seeing Goofy for another month.

When I walked in I thought "OH NO!" lots of tiny tots. And to my knowledge this was supposed to be more along the lines of a romantic comedy. So when the little ones started twitching because they were bored, I had to laugh that they were stuck in there. But I really lost it when they started "EWWWWWW"ing in chorus everytime a couple kissed. Hilarious.

Anyway, I really liked it but that would have been obvious to anyone who knows my movie tastes. If I had one complaint I'd probably ask for more singing. I expected there to be more. But the casting was amazing. I mean who else but McDreamy should play the Prince Charming type role? I know Marsden actually plays a prince but that's not what I meant. And Marsden was great, btw. I just want a movie where he sings the whole time.

I don't see the connection. It's okay to enjoy something fluffy or sweet now and then. It doesn't mean you surround yourself with that kind of stuff all of the time.

Ugh, remake the animated classics? NEVER!!

Harry's idea to remake the classic animated movies in live action is a heresy! I love animation too much to be in favor of it. Remake non-classics like Mulan, sure, that'd be nice as that movie suffered for having all the dopy songs and truncated running time, but we don't need the live action version of Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast. I want NEW animated classics. If they'd followed this kind of shit we'd have had live action Cinderella instead of the Little Mermaid. Give us the next generation of animated classics! That's what I want them to get right. I'd welcome that crappy remake idea only if enabled the return to animation. That's the more important goal.
Isn't this a remake?

Alright, this movie probably isn't my type of film and I admit it. Still...another Harry review, another hysterical rave. I'm jealous of him actually, every movie he sees is a magical instant classic.

Seriously, a guy from an animated and sugarcoated world where everyone sings and crap ends up in "tough" new york? A children's movie that adults will love too? Etc...? But I loved Elf, so if this is anywhere near as good I'll still be happy.
Just to be a total woman, Harry...

that castle in the logo is NOT the castle at Disneyland. It is the castle at Disney World. The OLD logo was Sleeping Beauty's castle (from DL)... the NEW logo is Cinderella's castle from WDW. And yes, there is a huge difference, both in size and design.

Every time I see that review headline, I think it says something about Harry peeing on an 8-year-old wearing a tiara. Then I look again and that's clearly not what it says. But I do a double take each time it pops up on screen.

Home for Thanksgiving, wanted to see No Country for Old Men but needed something Mom would go to and ended up at Enchanted. This is a happy movie. Oh, and Rotten Tomatoes is up to 93%. Please, no lame sequels.

A real return to form for Disney. A smart funny script. The animation at the beginning looked great. Great acting all around. Adams especially, she's oscar-worthy. There's a part where her character gets angry for the first time in her life and she's both angry and excited at the same time, and it's at that moment she realizes shes is in love and Adams plays it perfectly.

The trailer for Alvin and the Chipmunks was first. Blissfully perfect! A chipmunk farted. Genuinely amazing! Then, in the "The Water Horse" trailer the dragon burped. Absolutely sublime! Then Enchanted managed to squeeze 3.5 good scenes into an hour and a 45 minutes. Oddly magical! The direct to video look definitely impressed all. Absolutely magical! Most of the kids in the audience seemed bored and only watched the chipmunk character. Subversively hilarious! (spoiler) The chipmunk gets scared and poops. (spoiler end) Worked perfectly! A "fun" film that 12 year old girls will see 6 times at the theater. Absolutely magic! But they did the same with The Princess Diaries 1 & 2, Ice Princess, Princess Caraboo, Ever After, 13 Going on 30, etc...All...wait for it...Absolutely Magic!

I'm really looking forward to this, it looks like an interesting film. I'm interested in seeing what the filmmakers have to say about the Disneyesque world vs our world. Plus I'm just really in the mood for light-hearted Disney fun. Plus Amy Adams is hot. And James Marsden getting hit with bikes while serenading his loved one...nice. If I were him I'd so open my eyes and obliterate them with my optic beam.
Uhh, I think Stephan Schwartz wrote the Lyrics.

...everyone i know who has seen it is raving about how it feels like a creative turnaround for Disney after all those years ruled by you-know-who. BUT SERIOUSLY - Harry, a live-action Little Mermaid you sick-bastard.? Don't ever let this man swim with a dolphin, perrrrlease.
