I'm no Heroes hater (I was hooked on s1) but I agree with many others that this season has been super weak. Many shows' second season fails to live up to the first, often getting back on track with the third, but Heroes' fall from grace has been unexpectedly steep to say the least. A great show with a lot of potential that's become as dull, predictable and meandering as it could possibly get. Hopefully this show has learned from it's mistakes early on in life and any future seasons will be back on form. Perhaps this short season will be a blessing, putting it out of its misery early and allowing more time for the development of a kick-ass s3 arc.

Season 3 will write itself with Copycat/St Joan/monica. Monica's character can introduce the element of the costume on the field. This brings about Micah secretly helping Monica with his Techno abilitities on the field. He too will wear the costume. Remember Micah saying he wanted to have a costume like the Fantastice Four? And have Monica/copycat trying to stay one step ahead of Bob and the company who see her has dangerous.

"it's silly true, but remember they are doing a live action comic book and silliness is rife in the medium. Weak defense I know but it's all I got."

See, I really hate that as an excuse, because I hold comics to a higher standard than that anyway. 'Comic' shouldn't be an excuse for lazy writing; see Alan Moore for reference. :-\

I have to confess that Heroes was much better than 24 last year. In my opinion, however, it was not the greatest show that has ever been broadcast. In fact, one could see more than a few similarities between Heroes and 4400. The only plus that "heroes had was its brilliant promo line, "Save the cheerleader, save the world." Outside of that, would someone please tell me what was so spectacular about the first season?

Sure did! I thought "Powerless" was pretty good and "Civil War" was mediocre but "Fathingale" was brilliant! I really loved the main mystery about the guy with two lives but the murder of the detective was great stuff! One of the scenes which stood out for me was when Reese was talking about the victim and said "He could be one of those guys who sees conspiracies everywhere" and then it immediately cut to Crews looking at his conspiracy wall! That was fab.

I can't believe Reese's pop might be involved! Eek!

NoPIX - Exactly! Where the hell is Sylar? We have this huge mystery surrounding him and he has little to NO screen time. Creepy West has more screen time than Sylar! WTH? What is up with the roaches, who saved him and why, why can't he use his powers (the Haitian pills? Shouldn't they have worn off by now), who and where is his father, any brothers or sisters and do they have powers, and what exactly does he have planned for Maya? Something tells me we will have to wait until season 3 to find out, and we may not if ZQ becomes a huge success on the big screen.

Why are people attacking Kring's writing skills? He wrote the episode responsible for people saying, "Heroes is back!", and when the general cranky populous admitted things were getting good again.

Random mexicans that no-one cares about randomly bump into nikijessica, micah and his cousin, mexican bird gets upset and starts killing them all but copycat copies her and kills them as well, all dead, woohoo... uhhh I mean boohoo, it'll be sad n stuff :) Then doctor who (invisble man) turns up and reminds peter that he was an interesting character last year and not a prick. Sylar gets his powers back and goes on the rampage and bumps into cheerleader again and wonders why she is repeating all the crap from last year, kills the annoying flying kid and makes friends with HRG, for a laugh. Everyone forgets about the virus thing as its lame and comes up with a better big bad.

BigAppleCon recap: "It was your day."
by Pennsy
Nov 19th, 2007
08:45:32 AM
The line to get into the Hotel Pennsylvania at 10AM was much more organized than the last convention I went to, Wizard World Philly a couple years back (that was with Eliza Dushku). I had a 3-day VIP pass, so we got in about 10 minutes earlier than everyone else. The main convention was on the 2nd floor where all the exhibitors set up shop, but the main action (the autograph signings and photo-ops) happened on the 18th floor. That's where the convention program said Kristen Bell was going to have a Q&A panel later on at 2:30, followed by a photo-op session. So I went up there to check things out, and maybe to get a good seat.

When I got there, about 2 dozen people were in a line waiting for...something. Initially, I thought Hayden Panettiere would resume her autograph session at 11 or so (she had signed stuff Saturday for about 3 hours straight). Then I noticed somebody else popped into view in the ballroom that looked like they just got there. It was *Bell*, and the line was for an unscheduled 10:30AM autograph signing with her! It wasn't on the convention program, and I had stumbled onto it by pure, dumbfucked luck. Instant attack of butterflies as I was major worried I would get all flustered/tongue-tied. Luckily, I didn’t, and she signed my Veronica Mars season 3 DVD box. I told her that it was only right to dress appropriately for the occasion, so I opened my winter coat off which revealed my "Team Elle" T-shirt I purchased from CafePress.com. Her eyes nearly bugged out of her head when she saw it and said "wow", among other stuff. Kristen said there were crew members on the show that wore ‘Team Claire’ shirts, so she was totally jazzed by that. And I gave her an opposite-of-belated Thanksgiving card. She took the time to talk to everyone who was on the line. So, so nice, that was. That was encounter #1. For about a half-hour afterward, you could not wipe the smile off my face as I returned to the main convention floor.

The lines for Bell and Panettiere's scheduled photo-ops (individually and together, I opted for just the pic with Kristen) got so long that the panels that were supposed to take place wound up getting vaporized, including KB's own; most of them were probably relocated downstairs to the main convention floor. To make a long story less long, when it came time for my picture with Kristen, she held out her arms..and we hugged. Again, just to repeat: Kristen Bell hugged me. I'm not quite sure how I made it out of there, but the T-shirt made a definite positive impression on her. So those who had their pictures taken had to wait around about 45 minutes for them to develop. I have to say, the line moved with almost military precision; there had to be a few hundred people that the convention folks ferried through. Encounter #2, then.

A lot of us were milling about a bank of elevators on the 18th floor, about 20 yards or so from the ballroom waiting to pick up our photos. At 3 or so, there’s a slight commotion, as the convention's appointed security guy walks by, and Kristen needed to take a restroom break. Understand at this point, that save for lunch, she had been signing and posing for pictures for 3 1/2 of the prior four hours. She sees me, and I swear to gods, she smiled at me as she passed by. At this point, if a meteor had hit the hotel, I could die a happy guy. Exaggeration there, but you get the idea.

We all got our pictures, then, and a second autograph session with Kristen awaited. I handed her the photo-op pic, and...I'll post the pic a bit later on today or tomorrow. I told her Assassins’ Creed was on my to-buy list, and that it was worth getting up so early and traveling from Philly to meet her. Then I said, since she was on G4's Heroes Post-Show at the Maxim party for the release of AC, can you play NHL08 for the PS3? I made the mistake, then of saying about me being a Flyers fan; as you know she’s a huge Detroit Red Wings fan. Kristen said she just purchased a PS3, and was slowly getting the hang of how it worked. And said when she did eventually get online, she was gonna kick my ass as the Red Wings. :D

All in playful, delightful jest, but it was the perfect capper on a perfect day. I’m gonna upload the photo-op pic to her MySpace page this week and drop a note with my PS3 handle (BSG2008) so the prospect of a Pennsy v. K-Bell online Flyers-Red Wings game might inch closer to reality. Thing is, I didn’t have the heart to tell her that playing as Philly, I beat the Red Wings, 3-0 for my first NHL08 win on the pro setting a week or so ago. From hugging me to kicking my ass...we CONNECTED. I thanked her one last time, shook hands with the security guard who was watching the scene, and headed home.

Maybe this wasn’t raunchy enough for some on here, but to a guy who has had very little go right for him of late, this day was one of the best of my entire life. The train gridlock that happened yesterday (downed wires between NY and Newark) happened just five minutes or so after I de-trained in NYC. Normal service resumed when I got to Penn Station. It was an emotional ride home, as I thought how things could have gone so wrong. Some things were just meant to be. I will never speak ill of Kristen Bell, and unashamedly call myself her #1 fan in Philly. I hit a home run. Everything that could have broke the right way for me did. And the, “It was your day” in the subject? That was what my dad told me after I laid out the entire day's events in front of him last night after I got home.

As for tonight, bring the frak on Elle v. Claire.

Mainly heroes is suffering from characters regressing rather than developing and getting small amounts of screen time. Only visiting certain characters each week was a disaster for lost, in my opinion and will be here too. The only time I ever saw it really work was on Farscape. PS. I doubt if DL is actually dead, but heres hoping. At least his death wasnt as bad as nadia in alias 'hey im pretty much like a superhero spy who routinely avoids barrages of gunfire and just survived being poisoned with an incurable zombie disease but i get killed by falling on a coffee table' single worst thing that I ever saw in a TV show.

I'll agree that Heroes is now sagging under it's own weight. Bad writing compounded by too many characters and whoever's doing the lion's share of the writing clearly can't handle a large ensemble. How can you have an episode without Matt, Mohinder and HRG? It's time for them to go hardcore on this show, Battlestar Galactica style. Oh, and Allison Mack > Kristen Bell. Thhey are both hot but Allison's got that ass! Also, we need a Chuck and Reaper talkback.

Don't give a frak if I get kidded from now on for it. I just had one of those days when everything just clicked. As of late, that was the exception, not the rule.

The autograph prices were $25/item for both Kristen and Hayden, but with all these "force majeure" letters being sent out to NBC-Uni actors (and who's to say both of them didn't receive them by now, too?), this was one circumstance where I couldn't begrudge them.

good point, if they reveal that 'everyone was mega-Haitianed' then fine, thats cool.

but if they say "its because we haven't seen any real news reports in their world, so they are talking about it, we just don't have time for that"

then i'll punch a camel, arnie-style.

the other excuse is they could simply end the season with every body in ny getting powers from the radiation - comic style.

thats not an excuse for why noone remembers, but it'd be distracting enough for why ny isn't.. know.. FUCKING EVACUATED!

Can we really believe that Nathan and Peter's story of a car crash? Since when do cars give people extreme exposure to radiation, which leads me to the question of why aren't more people concerned that Nathan has radiation burns, or is that his new ability, he only gets normal burns from radiation...then why would they look for Peter in the water? Like what the hell is with these NY cops, do they just believe anything elderly women tell them?

Further more, pretty fucking pissed no Sylar story. Because I think everyone wanted to know how he ended up with that fat chick and was in the middle of the jungle, then suddenly landed on a Mexican street. I would have rather seen that then see stupid DL.

Further more, not that I care about Matt, but nothing on him getting blasted with bullets and how him and Saresh became lovers and adopted Molly.

I demand another Four Months Later episode, or just fucking axe half of the cast (the uncompelling half) so when we do have these episodes, we don't feel frustrated that there are too many characters for one episode to cover.

They could have shoved other stories in overtop of Kristin Bell's pointless scenes, sure she's got nice boobs, but really, I'm watching a superhero show, I'm too fucking geeked out to care about that.

...Clowes and Spiegelman were good, too. But that episode really BLEW. Wonder if the changes (Comic Book Guy goes out of business, Marge is now a women's gym tycoon) will stay in continuity, or will everything be back to normal next week? Or was it all Homer's dream? Poor writing made it unclear just what the f*** was going on. But again, Alan Moore was awesome!

Hi all. So to me, "Four months ago" really went a long way to undoing the tiny bit of good the creators had done by letting some time pass in between seasons and letting us, the viewers, fill in the blanks. Also, several things struck me as 'kin stoopid: A) You mean Nathan grew that fuck-off beard and got separated from his kids and built up all that melancholy and angst in ONE MONTH? THAT beard? The big one? Massive beard growth, that's a power right there. B) Also, it took Peter and Adam ONE MONTH to have a conversation where they introduce themselves to each other? What did they do the other four weeks, sing to each other? And finally, C) WHY is Kristen Bell so annoying in this? I saw VM, she can act. WTF? And oh yeah, I was bored a whole lot. Treading water is what this show is now all about. I say, kill some characters we like, kill them hard, strip the cast down to some real bare bones, and for christ's sakes give me some hard-hitting emotional drama NOW! Now I tell you. Everyone I know is no longer interested like they used to be in this show. That's like, three people.
Yeah, Kidz, the plot made no sense...

...but there were LOTS of great jokes in the show. And that's why I watch The Simpsons, the jokes. (I think everything was a dream after Homer went to get the second round of plastic surgery, btw) I actually hope Comic Book Guy is gone for a while, but it'll probably be back to "normal" in the future. Still, any show that can get a recluse like Alan Moore to do a cameo has got SOMETHING going on...

"“Four Months Ago” turned out to be a whole lot more wheel-spinning. None of the fascinating revelations that attended “Six Months Ago.” No cool cliffhanger. Just a lot more stuff we could pretty much figure out on our own."

My thoughts exactly. Probably the least interesting episode of the season. Then again, since I enjoyed all the previous episodes, one meh episode for me isn't a showstopper. Here's to the next three.

Just to clarify. It's days like yesterday, when a actor or a celebrity treats their fans like regular folks, it makes them a fan for a long time. She was nice to *everybody*, made them feel at home, even if they came far away from home. It's a nice antidote to the Britneys of this business.

... Best analogy I've heard, right there. It's worse than a sophomore slump... at this point, it's a showkiller. They really need to do something drastic and huge if this strike ever ends. Problem is, without Bryan Fuller, they just don't have the writing power to pull anything off that could possibly save the show at this point. Oh well...

He's way more powerful than even Peter or Sylar. He can supress people's ability and could therefore defeat anyone with a gun. The writers bring him in and out of the storyline when needed.

Why is he even working with HRG? He could destroy the company in 10 minutes!

"H.R.G. plans to run after thinking The Company found his family, but Claire has other ideas; Hiro returns to discover his father is dead; Matt struggles with his increasing mental powers; Suresh meets Elle and comes to a decision."

Okay, Noah has a plan, The Cheerleader thinks arougt something, Hiro finds out somethng we already know, Matt has an internal struggle and Mohinder decides something. Yep, that's the kind of slam-bang action that made super-hero comic books so popular in the first place.

This show needs Elle-tricity Lass in a shock resistant latex dominatrix outfit circa the 1992 "bad girl comics" trend. Also, more lesbian cheerleaders who last more than one episode.

Okay, seriously,, I know comics and TV genre show geeks are supposed to be uinsular and single minded, but can you believe all the "Where's Sylar" "Why no Sylar? "I want Sylar" comments? Uh, kids, you have heard that the actor who playes Sylar is off making a movie, right? I mean, it was in the news and everything.

keep a lid on that shit! not all of us are watching the show just yet. I'm not going to get a chance to see it till tomorrow. For some reason I just can't stay away though...

Xiphos- Vegans and Veggies aren't delusional, where'd you get that idea? (I'm not either, but I know plenty of both) They tend to be pretty normal folk in my experience. Vegans tend to be pretty good cooks, since their options are so limited. Kids who try it out tend to fuck it up, and do it for simple-minded reasons, but the adults I know who are serious about it aren't loony tree-huggers or anything.

The best theme of this series

...has been, in my opinion, the love of a father for his child. Tonight's ep explores this dynamic in spades.

I've always concentrated on the Noah/Claire storyline, but when you look at it, almost every major character is involved in this aspect one way or another. Even if it's just the impact a father had on a protaganist's life. It's very refreshing.

Did I mention tonight's ep kicks all kinds of ass?

Simpsons & Alan Moore..funny

I laughed pretty hard when he started reading Lulu. Writers must love this show because so many, like Thomas Pynchon, come out of hiding to do it. Loved it when Tom Wolfe came on, "He's the writer who holds the record for most exclamation points." "IT'S TRUE!!!!" Still, and I'm going off on a rant that was caused by last night specifically, the problem with the show now is that the episodes are almost never about one thing. If you can't sum it up in one line it's a bad story. Like last night, "Comic Book Guy feuds with a new competitor and loses his store. Then Marge rents the space and starts a chain of gyms for normal women. Then Homer becomes insecure and gets unnecessary plastic surgery and becomes a monster of science." Now compare that to an all time classic "Homer becomes an astronaut." One line and that's what happens. And I had high hopes that things were getting better after one episode this season that actually did crack me up because it stuck to the story, "Homer becomes a tow truck driver." There you go it's already a superior episode. Also, the plastic surgery thing was a ripoff of Family Guy. I never thought I'd see the day when Family Guy makes me laugh harder than the Simpsons. Anyhow, thanks for indulging me on a topic almsot completely unrelated to this forum.

I've never actually tried either, I like hamburgers way too much, as my girlfriend (a recovering veggie of 10 years) will happily tell you, but the age thing definitely seems to be a significant detail. I'm in my mid-thirties now, but when I was younger most of the Vegetarians/Vegans were more interested in radical politics for it's own sake, and those are the ones pulling up to the McDonalds drive-thru today. Asshats take many forms, as I know you are aware. We have dinner with a couple pretty regularly who are both excellent cooks, are super-vegan, but never, ever proselytize to us or anyone else. The food is always good, and so is the conversation. I think the ass-hattery of vegans and veggies has more to do with the fact that the person is an asshat, and not that they don't eat meat. Just a theory.

Alas, I've only seen one episode of BW and have been hesitant to watch anymore. Actually, the main actress is considered to be quite talented over here. She was in Eastenders and gained quite a bit of praise for one particular storyline where she discovered that her sister was actually her mother. Some of the scenes between the two characters were quite heartbreaking.

She's a south London girl and so, assuming that it was her native accent which she used, that's what it should have been.

You know, I've heard about Friday Night Lights but - for some reason - assumed that it was a bit like your Saturday Night Live show. If this isn't the case then I'll check it out so thanks! (I'm off to Google it!)

I am as critical as anyone else, but credit where credit is due. That was a kick-fcking-ass episode and it was good. Even Flyboy redeemed himself to a large extent. The absence of Telemundo Twins + SheHulk + Computer Kid + TVGirl and the presence of some serious time travel + Hiro + Father-son moments made it awesome. A kick ass ending does not hurt and a set up for a great 2 more episodes makes it great. And finally, we know for a fact that Mohinder is a PhD who wants to be 007 and is a bloody doofus! No hating this - complaints were heard. Changes have been made. This is very good. And next week, Sylar pops in .. I just hope he finished eating some Brains & Chips on the car from the Telemundo Twins and we dont have to see them... Also the Girl x Girl action is going to be very good.

Sorry if this is a retread of someone else:

This ep was about fathers and childrens, and what's shared between them. Hiro took Kaito back in time, so that the father got to learn something from his son (referencing the lessons Hiro had learned in the coda). Likewise, Noah has now been healed and come back from death, something that Claire has experienced.

While Kaito may have had a different power, he got to see the world through the eyes of the next generation. By the same point, Claire (well, her blood, really) has given her adopted father an insight into what she's really all about. I mean, you can raise your kids and know them, but you don't really know them, dig?

Credit for this idea comes from my wife, who is (at best) a part time Heroes fan. And very pregnant.

Damn you West!

Mohinder could've been dead. DEAD. (Of course, he would've been reincarnated -- probably as a boll weevil -- but at least for the show he'd be gone) But NO, you had to stop Captain Cool the Coolster, the Coolest guy on the show. Damn you indeed!

A lot of badassery in that episode. Parkman took the name from Mama Petrelli! (took me a second to get that) HRG Lives! (I knew that was going to happen though). Hiro figures out something we knew two episodes ago! (although seriously, Hiro's part was handled very well) Even Elle got some badassery in, although her uppance also came!

Some great reveals (OK, some more obvious than others but still cool). Dark Parkman!?! I like putting an end to Hiro's constantly re-writing history (even if it's just a philosophical position).

Sylar seems pretty absent this season, even with the twins plot - I noted he seemed to only have a small bit in next weeks EP too (?) I wonder if they're just going to backburner Sylar, stick with the Adam Kensai plot, and use him much more in Season 3 (and the end of S2 will just be his setup - finding out something about the person-in-the-sewer). Great stuff!

But unless Mohinder was shooting with a .22, Noah's eye would have been blown out the back of his head, along with brains and skull and assorted goo. And before I get doused in Haterade, I understand the suspension of disbelief and enjoying it for the show that it is, etc etc. But they make such a big deal about grounding this in some sort of reality, it bugs me when they don't take common sense into account. Powers notwithstanding, of course.

So did he have an exit wound or what? And if not, is the bullet still in there, rattling around in his brains? When Peter healed from being shot, his body rejected the bullet, Wolverine-style, then healed up.

by fedaykin
Nov 19th, 2007
09:35:06 PM
Earlier in the episode, Bob lamented Noah's turn against the Company. His little speech indicated they wanted Noah's devotion and one-track mindset, and thought his loyalty was to the Company until it proved to be Claire's.

What if Bob took Claire's blood intending to revive HRG and turn him into the "super" agent the Company wanted him to be? Is there someone other than the Haitian that could "reprogram" HRG to a blank slate with the same character traits? Or maybe they recruit dark-side Parkman and his newfound brain-rape ability to compel HRG into a Crying Freeman type character?

Just a thought.
Why I think the Company saved HRG (and left Claire)
by chrth
Nov 19th, 2007

I think Bob is genuine, i.e. he does want to fix the damage Linderman did and make the Company less, well, Companyish like they were in the past. Bob knows HRG is a valuable soldier, and by bringing him back -- and leaving Claire alone while they test her blood against the virus -- he's providing evidence to convince HRG.

My guess is that Bob wasn't involved. It must be clear to the Heroes staff that most of the audience thinks Suresh is a douche. If they're going to keep him on the show, which is what they clearly seem to desire, then they have to find a way to make him more likable. What better way to do that than showing he's a badass by coming up and executing a great idea on the fly, i.e. having him kill and revive HRG just to show the company he's loyal.

More importantly, revealing that Suresh is not a backstabbing, naive douch and is actually a player in his own right is a great "holy crap!" moment for next episode. I think we all know that Heroes will always choose a "holy crap!" moment over a more sensical theory that has fewer plot holes.

What floored me was the "Team Paul". THAT shocked the shit outta me. I really must've made a positive impression. CafePress has loads more of fan-uploaded graphics that can be put on T-shirts, sweatshirts, coffee mugs, etc. It wasn't Heroes-related; it was just somebody who had a daughter or girlfriend, probably who was named Elle and that's how the t-shirt came to be. There were almost 300 hits when I plugged in 'Elle' in the website's search engine.

And Kristen brought her A-game tonight, didn't she? Heroes has its own Elizabeth Mitchell; someone who is kick-ass good, multi-layered performances; here's hoping she gets a Best Supporting Actress Emmy nomination in 2008.

a faster paced show does not necessarily mean a BETTER show. the writing is sloppy, characterization is at best inconsistent and at worst completely baffling. every "reveal" tonight was spoon-fed to the audience. it feels like they are still trying to recreate some "success formula" from last year. tonight felt like a very pale retread of last year's Company Man epsiode. and c'mon man... there is no sense of peril on this show and the ending is a perfect example of why. we have characters we dont understand or care about that are never in any real danger. they keep doing the same things they were doing ten episodes ago. and the special effects sucked this week. p.s. kristen --- break your contract and beg carlton to write another part for you on 'lost'
