The solidarity between the writers and the actors has got to have the studios pissing their pants, at this point.

considered crossing the picket lines? I'm assuming that the sketches didn't write themselves, so someone broke ranks to write the show. Hope someone reported them to the WGA

Don't just look at the pretty pictures.

"About a week in the making and less than a day in rehearsal, the show was a mix of the writers’ favorite old sketches and never-before-seen but already written bits that had been rejected, for raunchiness, humor or time. The cast members did their own makeup and, with the Upright Citizens Brigade staff, found their own minimal props and costumes. Writers held the cue cards. Ms. Rositano’s headset, it turned out, was a visual joke: It wasn’t even plugged in."

There was a little show that no one decided to watch called Arrested Development and Cera's comic timing on the show made his character funny when normally that character wouldn't be all that funny.
Soon TV shows will be going door to door...

How many people who actually work for a living in Hollywood are out of work because of these little premadonnas?

Oh, "prima donna." Bet those writers would know that word. Since surveys conducted by various institutes, including Pepperdine University, indicated that most Americans believe writers should actually get paid for their work, I'm betting there is some solidarity with the writers and actors. For the record, anyone who thinks writers don't work has never written anything substantial.

Herc, I thought you supported the writers. Series DVD sales is one of the main reasons why there is a strike right now. Everytime someone buys one a series DVD a writer is getting screwed on his residuals. This Christmas do not buy series DVD's as a gift. If you want to catch up on a series you missed netflix it. SEND THE PRODUCRERS A MESSAGE!!!
Sure the actors are with them

They're most likely planning to strike next. The poor humps who do all the work, not so much. And yes, some of them belong to unions themselves but they don't have the clout to strike even if they wanted to. Merry Christmas, lighting guy.
The Llama: about that poll
by thegreatwhatzit
Nov 19th, 2007
09:42:33 AM
The same poll indicated that Americans are extremely indifferent--or "just don't care"--about the strike. Resourceful TV addicts are turning to "DVD rentals, video games, et al: (apparently, reading isn't an option). To be succinct--like it or not--this strike is not turning the public into rabid haters of corporate Hollywood. Tina Fey and Julia-Louis Dreyfuss are in picket lines out of desperation (for some limelight)--outside of their immediate families, nobody is cognizant that their sitcome even exist! And who wants to reward specific writers who crap-out garbage between coke lines?
Worst. Charitable. Function. Ever.

OK the article says that tickets sold for $20 and "less than 200" people were allowed in. So basically this fundraiser made less than $4000. High school candy sales bring in more money than this.

10:00:51 AM
The poll indicated an overwhelming support for writers in response to the question about which side the general populace supports. That's a very different issue from whether or not Americans can find other entertainment sources and so are indifferent about the outcome. I'm not arguing the latter--I'm arguing the former. And coke lines are so 1984.

Writers work pretty damned hard, and the strike is about not being paid for money. As for your lighting guy, and the supposed trade union that doesn't have enough clout to strike, he'd walk out with all the rest of the Teamsters if a strike were called.

It was probably the funniest show of the season and we didn't see it. I can't wait until the writers get what they want and we can get back to normal with live shows hosted by unfunny rock stars and athletes who play themselves in every skit.

You know I'm not a fan of this writer's strike. Luckily this is Oscar season so I have good movies to keep me occupied, but I hadn't realized how dependent I was on late night talk shows. It's thrown my whole equilibrium off. Luckily for them I'm still going through my "Twin Peaks" episodes so I put those on at bedtime. Unfortunately it's making me realize exactly how shitty current television is. So now I have no sympathy for TV writers. If this doesn't get resolved and the big awards shows don't go on, I don't know what I'll do then. That stuff's like my playoffs and Superbowl.
Llama, bottom line: nobody cares

Thank God that Americans are not the TV addicts spoofed, over four decades ago, by prognosticators like Jay Ward (the creator of Bullwinkle...and a brilliant writer). Sorry, don't have time to debate (working a couple of freelance jobs) so monitor this talkback all day/night, to your heart's content. The WGA should farm some help to the World Wrestling Federation...the Miz and Undertaker need help with their dialogue. Good day/night and drive carefully.

The funny one, but I bet the first host when they return is the unfunny one from that Superbad film. I'd rather see the cast of Freaks and Geeks that didn't make it host a show rather then Superunfunny Noah Hill.
SNL On Tour

SNL would be good as a live touring show. They could be as foul-mouthed as they want. Also, they could employ a lot of sketch comedians who aren't on the TV version. Sort of like Second City or the Groundlings, or the old National Lampoon live shows from which many of the first SNL cast were recruited (whatever happened to the National Lampoon, anyway?)
