there is no way all of these monster hit tv shows are just going to "go away". so what if the strike goes 2,3, 6 months (which it won't), all of these shows will be back and so will their audiences. do you know how starved for good tv we are going to be after watching howie fucking mandel open suitcases for that long? the soprano's took way way long between seasons and was always a huge draw. the first week of new shows after the strike is over is going to be ginormous, and there will be enough re-cap shows so that my dead grandmother will know that it's not Penny's boat, or any of the other story lines. TV is not killing itself, it's giving us a nice break so we come rushing back more passionately than ever. its just too bad there aren't better options at the box office in the mean time.

I think your link is in reference to crew being laid off; I can't tell, since it's not working even after copy and paste. While it is true the crew have been laid off (and not fired), this is true of Leno and Conan's crews as well, and apparently some other NBC shows are probably on their way. This basically means that they're not paying the crew members since they're not needed, though they can (and likely will) be hired back at the end of the strike if they wish to return.

"writers killed their own medium"? What, they're supposed to roll over and take this mistreatment by the networks? If no one knows how much money is coming in for internet and itunes, how about giving them a FAIR PERCENTAGE, then the beancounters will be damned sure to calculate how much money is coming in. then we'll all know.

I'll bet NBC Regrets
by Napoleon Park
Nov 15th, 2007
07:12:40 PM
I'll bet NBC regrets burning off all those Office double features as hourlongs - they could have had another month of episodes if they hadn't done that.

I support the writers and agree with Mark Evanier: if the networks say there's no money to be made from online streaming video, why not just settle the strike and give the writers the 8% of nothing they're asking for.

I fill out surveys and still fall into the 45-54 age bracket for two more months, after which I enter the "no one cares what you have to say, old man" age range. My congratulations to all the people who vow to stop watching TV due to the strike, you'll be better off reading anyhow. but I suspect a lot of that bombast is from the same folks - or their children - who aware to quit smoking when cirarettes hit fifty cents a pack and stop driving once gas hit a dollar a gallon.

I don't come to AICN to criticize shows I don't watch, but are you saying there's a show opposite Grey's Anatomy and CSI and that people are actually watching it? Seriously?

by Shakes
Nov 15th, 2007
09:09:45 PM
Yeah, the people who mentioned the hour longs, let's see, there were four of them, so if not for those, we could have had another months worth of new episodes leftover. Of course those were probably filmed at an excelerated rate, so maybe we wouldn't have all 4, but there'd probably be at least two more eps in the can. I guess we'll know when Earl and the Office drop off.

I am not a court reporter. Anyway, this episode was similar in tone to the episode where Michael "declares" bankruptcy. I found it hard to laugh a few times in this episode. Michael was not Homer Simpson this episode, which was good. He sometimes acts like a human being (putting his diary up for grabs at the corporate office?! That sounds horrendous...). I'm still not sure what I think of this season.

Hour Longs...NBC is NOT stupid...
by Cheif Brody
Nov 15th, 2007
11:22:47 PM
NBC purposely fast tracked The Office production BECAUSE of the looming strike. The Office can be shot & edited much quicker than its single camera Thursday Night counterparts Earl, 30 Rock and Scrubs. NBC ordered MORE episodes and started Office production a month earlier than those other shows...which afforded them the luxury of filling time slots with hour long episodes while the other 3 shows caught up. Now, with the strike here...those hour longs will be chopped up into half hour repeats...which NBC hopes will last them through the duration of the strike. Loved tonight's episode...Who DIDN'T think Michael was gonna side with Dunder Mifflin in the end? Guess we've seen the last of Jan and "the twins"...which is ok by me. I wanna see Michael desperately single again. Loved the cattiness of Kelly!! But alas...no Creed!!! Well...anyone see where this season finale is heading? Last year it was Jim leaving Scranton...This year...it's Pam's turn. Just watch...(well...after the strike).

don't sell well in syndication, and they don't sell DVDs. Doubling up on the more popular reality shows, as well as putting out more knock-offs, will only further dilute their popularity. If they go on for too long, it will give leverage to the people that WRITE stuff for those shows, since the networks like to pretend those shows don't have writers. Then the only thing left to show on TV will be Ellen.

Best show of the season

So far, probably because the rest of the shows sucked, where the rest of the season Office has been lacking and 30 rock earl and scrubs have been funny. This season proves that every show always has its best season in its second season. The only show I can think of that had a better season then its second season would be South Park, thats probably because its still done by the original writers.
