They might think, "Gee, I wonder if South Park will still be this good when they approach the number of episodes of history that we have to work against." Seriously, your comparison is not applicable. The Simpsons is approaching episode 400, and they typically create more episodes per season with an eight-year head start. South Park hasn't even reached 200 yet. I'm not arguing that The Simpsons is better than South Park right now. It isn't. But The Simpsons at its peak - which wasn't too much earlier than the number of episodes South Park is at right now - was just as good as South Park's best if not better. I would also say that South Park has more of a modern-issue, satirical slant than the more specifically character-driven Simpsons and thus lends itself to remaining fresher by nature.

The Simpsons cycles in a new batch of writers every season, so it's going to have ups and downs. The last few seasons have been all over the place with a few terrific episodes scattered amongst incredible duds.

We get it -- You don't like THE SIMPSONS as much as you used to. It doesn't matter that every so often they still manage a solid episode after 19 seasons, but for fuck's sake, stop saying the same crap over and over. Your posts are officially as boring and repetitive as THE SIMPSONS itself.

...Abe Lincoln's ghost was, but it was hilarious that he was really a pissed off douchebag at heart.... and drove a Nissan Centra. And us geeks all know being ugly doesn't make you have "character"... it makes you a pissed off douchebag... deciding to have character gives you character. And Abe Lincoln couldn't get elected to the post of local animal control board member these days... good loking people DO have advantages and always will and it doesn't change when they turn 40 either... that's just the way it is. Ugly people work at McDonalds, or educate themselves and become game designers, accountants, doctors or produce crudely animated satirical cartoons... that's just the way it is. Now I'm getting preachy...

Just behind the Guitar Hero thing. Luckily it wasn't as incredibly bad as the Oprah episode, or the lice episode. Those were so fucking not funny. Overall, this was probably the second best season, right behind season eight.

And The Simpsons did die along with Phil Hartman (and the development of Futurama). Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz have been sorely missed...

God I miss a full season of television. It seems like years since a show has had anything near a 22 episode run, and now thanks to the Sci-Fi channel and Comedy Central we have these 7 or 8 episode seasons and the concept of Holding back episodes for no intelligent reason (BSG). And they wonder why viewership is down? Incredible.

6-episode series tend to be the norm for comedies in the UK, and often prevent the shows dying a death of 'too much time to make it all funny' type shark-jumping.

Look at shows like The Young Ones or Fawlty Towers, for example. Both incredibly short run shows, but astoundingly tight and funny even today. Even shows like Red Dwarf (until they got rid of Rimmer) used to leave you begging for more at the end of a series.

Quantity doesn't equal quality.
