I still can't get over the jackass name of his opponent, Mason 'The Line' Dixon. I mean, seriously, are you f'n kidding me? What, was Jasper 'Underground Railroad' McBlackson too racial? Horrible.

- Goldsmith score is there...YES! - THE ACTION is amazing...YES! - Sly's best directed movie (now that is a nice praise)...YES! - RAMBO doesn't speak much words, but his expressions say it all (some of you need not worry about this anymore)...YES! - The gore is still there...YES! The first ever RAMBO review was positive...it seems like ROCKY BALBOA all over again! Love the part of the review when the reviewer says "Stallone is worthy of the masters" meaning any director (ie Cameron, Spielberg, Ridley Scott ect) and the part where he claims "this is Stallone's best directed work." Hell this entire review KICKS ASS!!!! Way to go Sly!!!! You have pulled off one helleva masterful action extravaganza that will join numerous lists to come!

i remember a when stallone was posting on here and he mentioned that maybe kersey will start out as a cop..NO NO NO. he can't start out that way....he has to be an every man to whom the type of violence he engages in at the end is foreign to him. he can't be a cop. or if you really want to spice things up have him start out as a vigilante and end the film as an architect? but whatever you do don't make him a cop because then it is just another rogue cop film.

Trautman for president...of Iran
by Bill Brasky
Nov 14th, 2007
03:27:32 PM
Jingoism is defined in the Oxford English Dictionary as "extreme patriotism in the form of aggressive foreign policy." In practice, it refers to sections of the general public who advocate the use of threats of or actual force against other countries in order to safeguard what they perceive as their country's national interests. So...how does John Rambo, who stands for all the evil shit that we put our Vietnam vets through, perpetuate Jingoism? Dude, just because you want to sound smart and use a big, bad college word doesn't mean that people like BILL BRASKY won't go on to dictionary.com and look that shit up! Seriously though, Mr. Jingo-jango-jungo, Rambo went to Vietnam to rescue American soldiers who were listed as missing-in-action. The American government has never admitted that there were any MIA soldiers still being held captive in Vietnam. How does that perpetuate Jingoism if American foreign policy neither drove nor inspired any movement to rescue the over 2000 still missing servicemen? Oh, it is just Soooo Jingoistic…. And about RAMBO III…Somehow I guess that the Soviet Union’s aggressive foreign policy after they invaded Afghanistan wasn’t really the reason why John Rambo ventured into the land of the kings, it was really the United States’ Jingoistic (there’s that word again!!!) policies that inspired that tall tale. Troutman, you are a fraud. You know what you sound like to me, with your good big words and your cheap suit? You sound like a rube. A well scrubbed, hustling rube with a little taste. Good nutrition's given you some length of bone, but you're not more than one generation from poor white trash, are you, Colonel Trautman? And that writing style you've tried so desperately to shed: pure West Virginia. What is your father? Is he a coal miner? Does he stink of the lamp? You know how quickly the boys found you... all those tedious sticky fumblings in the back seats of cars... while you could only dream of getting out... getting anywhere... getting all the way to the AICN.

On September 11, 2001, nineteen men boarded four planes; five each on American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Flight 175 and American Airlines Flight 77, four on United Airlines Flight 93. Fifteen of the attackers were from Saudi Arabia, two from the United Arab Emirates, one from Egypt, and one from Lebanon. All were Muslims. The group consisted of six core organizers, which included the four pilots, and thirteen others. They were funded by the terrorist organization al-Qaeda and directed by Osama bin Laden. The idea for the September 11 plot came from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who first presented the idea to Bin Laden in 1996. They planned the attack primarily out of Afghanistan and used its Taliban government as a source of funds and security up until the US led invasion on October 4, 2001. Dude, you are fighting a battle that you can not win. We all know the deal. Yes, we say things like "not all Muslims are evil," and "lets not stereotype people" or "Islam is a religion of peace." Well, I am here to remind you that this did happen, and even if you discount al-Qaeda in Iraq, 70 other terrorist attacks have taken place around the globe since then, all by al-Qaeda and all in the name of Allah. (Peaceful?) Bali bombings, trying to shoot down a fully loaded Israeli jetliner, Australia bombings, Spanish and British train bombings, etc, etc, etc, SEVENTY! So, where is your phantom menace now? Yes, I am aware that there are many peaceful, great Muslims from around the world. I had an interpreter in Iraq that was one of my best friends for over a year. I would bring him to this great nation if I could, in a heartbeat! But denying that your religion is dealing with a major fundamentalist problem right now wouldn't just be myopic...it would be insane.

When Bush decided to attack Iraq he killed 1 million Iraqi civilians. Yet this 1 million seems less significant to you than the 2000 lost on 9/11. Every life is precious that you seem to gloss over that.... Israel continues to commit genocide on the Palestinian people. Yet the US seems fine with giving them 30 billion this year. Islamic fundamentalism, Islamofacism, Jihadist are all quaint and simplistic ideas used by the powers that be to trick the populace into signing away their rights and invade other countries. All of this is done under the pretense that "they don't like the way we live." The sad part is that a lot of American actually believe this rhetoric. These Americans will claim to know more about Islam than Muslims themselves. This arrogant assumption of superiority was used to justify many a colonial invasion. Afterall, once you posit Muslim/Arab/other as something other than human, then you can slaughter them like animals and still consider oneself as a champion of human rights. That is why you cannot talk about Palestinian suffering at the hands of the IDF.

Keep on believing that smoldering pile of shit that you are shoveling. I'll try not to think about the Pakistani PWC convoy commander (civillain) who, after talking about life, and soccer and our wives and all other shit then proceeded to tell me that "You know, all of the Jews who worked in the World Trade Center called in sick and did not come in to work on 9-11" Wake up man, you and your idealism is just plain wrong. I swear to God right now on this spot, I wish we could find a new alternative to oil so you and your barbaric friends could drink the shit and we would never have to set foot in your nasty part of the world, ever again.

Very classy. It is the recourse of those with no real compelling point. Once again, you gloss over the mess that colonialism has caused in Palestine and Iraq. Trying not to think is the main problem here. Please think of the mess that the US caused in Iraq. Please think of the mess that some want to start in Iran. Young American men and women are dying in the Iran for what? Democracy? No, the US supports Musharraf in Pakistan. Human Rights? No, no action is taken in Darfur or against Israel for Palestinian genocide. WMDs? I will not say more. It is about oil like you said. But from what I am gathering you do not really care about my "barbaric" friends?! Fair enough. But don't you think that Big oil should be at least compensating the good people of the US armed forces for their trouble? I mean it is clear that the government are not doing all that they can for vets. Perhaps Exxon could spare some of that 30 billion in profit that they made in a quarter? Your rights are being encroached upon and the Constitution pissed on..... and all you can think of is Islamofacism. Keep on going and don't think about it! Did you hear about Al-Qaeda's imminent cyber-attack that was supposed to cripple the net on Monday? That was almost as funny as the Jews that called in sick. Apparently, these bad people set up T1 lines and became hackers to fight the Great Demon! Seriously.

More than you know, Jarv, and not in the way you think. See, AnimalScrotum considers Nazis and Fascists to be (I shit you not) left-wingers. This is so that he can say (which he often has) that there is "no such thing" as a right-wing dictatorship.

AnimalStricture has reached the ultimate and outer limit of right-wing extremism. The singularity and event horizon surrounding AnimalCracker's black hole of political assholism is what accounts for the sudden upending of all common sense and the absence of basic decency as soon as they are in danger of penetrating his atrophied cerebellum.

I just don't want to be pigeonholed because of those beliefs. Other than that, I am absolutely a moderate and even a liberal on many things. Shit man, I don't care if people smoke weed or a woman wants to get an abortion. Gays want to be married? Go ahead! I don't go to church, I don’t own a gun, and I don't even have any Toby Keith records. Bottom Line: Not all people who have the foreign policy ideas that I have are crazy right wing religious 'wing-nuts.' Hell, why would I be interested in sci-fi, movies, comics, etc, enough to check out this site ever day? I just believe that we live in a great nation that deserves a little more respect than some people give it on these talkbacks. There MUST be an opposing voice in any dialogue, or it becomes something less than a discussion. Your thoughts?

On a lighter note- I think we should organise a dancing with the stars featuring the AICN rogues gallery. We could call it "Trolling with the stars" the idea being we pick a member of the hack pack (Ratner, Emmerich, McG et al) and make them dance the tango with some of AICN's most infamous trolls. I would nominate Fisky, AnimalStructure, Wanahara7, M-O-M, GingerTwit, Mercier, Anna Valerious, Ringwearer9, Cocolopez, and Phartegod (or SonofPHartegod, or whatever).

They are put up for the public vote with the loser having being dropped into a vat of acid.

I appreciate your candor and respect your position, though there are some relatively minor disagreements there. I'm a foreign policy dove (not to be confused with capitulating to dictators and hawks) because I believe, first and foremost, in diplomacy and non-violent means of achieving our goals. On social issues I'm moderate (I believe marraige is between a man and woman, but support gay unions) and financially, I'm very Conservative. I oppose illegal aliens (I don't even call it illegal immigration, because immigration is a process of law).

I'm not naive to think that there are no evil people out there. Just today I was listening to NPR about women in Basra being murdered by militants seeking to impose Sharia law on Iraq. That story also points out a clear truth - that the vast majority of Muslims are suffering from radicalism. A lot of rhetoric - including the term "Islamofascism", which was coined in the offices of The Weekly Standard, is invented precisely to avoid diplomacy and to instill fear and hatred, and to instigate war. As a modern society with a vast resource of information and discourse, we as nations and peoples should not be so easily conned into hating for hate's sake.

Anchorite's posting last week is an example of such fear mongering. Incredulously, he called for an escalation in violence, without regard for innocent lives or 'collateral damage', to, in his words, be "brutal and inhumane". That was probably the ugliest post I've read on AICN to date.

I believe my country - America - is indeed the greatest nation this planet has ever seen. I want it to continue being that greatest nation. No other country inspires the world like we do. Please remember, too, that we are an inspiration to the Arab world. Most Arabs and Muslims would like to live in a moderate society, seeing us as a shining example, to experience freedoms without fear. I think our actions in the Mideast should be conducted in such a way that we are looked upon with admiration and not disgust. I believe that is achievable.

It's a genuine credit to our reputation, and a sign of respect, that most people in the world continue to view our foreign policy as separate from us as a people, a society. If we can moderate our foreign policy, and continue to inspire the world with our conduct and our way of life, we will indeed win the war on terrorism - by leading nations toward democracy by example. To inspire people to reject fascism and radicalism and see that the alternative is the better choice for them and their people.

Let's just say that we have not had a proper investigation into 9/11. No, I'm not convinced that what struck the Pentagon was a plane. If there is evidence (and yes, the American people are owed that evidence) - physical or otherwise - we need to see and examine it. Even the videos they released so far show no plane. And there are unreleased videos yet to be released. Why are they being held in secret? I'm not saying that the terrorists didn't do the deed, but there are a lot of unanswered questions and I believe we only know a fraction of the full truth.

That last post was sent prematurely... Anyway, you said it better than I could have and for that, I thank you. We may have our differences, but the main points that you touched on we both agree. The thing that really nags the shit out of me on these talkbacks are the people like Animal Structure and Achorite (Anchorite I have agreed with from time to time, although I have not read the post that you commented on) is that they are hypocritical assholes. Not to be cliché, but these guys probably haven't even picked up a BB gun in their lives, much less a rifle and gone to war at their country's bidding. Since I signed on the dotted line way back in 1990, I have spent nearly 1000 days in combat zones. The Gulf War, Somalia, and now Afghanistan and Iraq. Not once was I EVER happy to be there or comfortable that I was going to wake up tomorrow. These idiots want to ESCALATE??? What the fuck? Again, we differ on some foreign policy issues, but I am not an idiot. I would rather chew on broken glass than have to go back to Anbar or Bagdad. Talkbackers like these guys have nothing to worry about. It's not their asses that will be on the line when we 'escalate' any war. Maybe that's why they are so Gung-Ho on talking about it.; and the collateral damage? That shit infuriates me as well. Anyone who says shit like that talks out of his ass. That was a rant, and I am sorry that I lost my bearing, but idiots like these guys give me a bad name.

doesnt make you right - a lot of guys signed up and fought - and they have a different opinion on the war - why we are there and how we are handling it - the war in iraq was/is a big mistake - and if you cant accept it -thats your problem - enlisting and serving is very noble - but not every war is - we shouldve stayed focused on afganastan - doesnt it bug you that so many are being sent into battle by a few assholes that didnt have the balls to serve during viet nam - this stuff is all designed and orchestrated by the least qualified - and guys like you pay for it in mental health and blood - there are record numbers of vets attempting and committing suicide right now - maybe its because they come home and realize the whole country sees this fiasco for what it is - a monumental waste of lives and money
Hope they don't cut any of this...

... and instead give us a sucky uncut dvd a year later. I want to see this just as our reviewer saw it. If this has a 70's vibe then count me in as the seventies was the Golden Decade of modern cinema IMO. Glad Stallone's revisting that type of film again with first Rocky then Rambo and now Death Wish. Hey, Sly you got a new convert to your new era of movies.

You don't know what you are talking about. I never tried to tell you that I was right; I was expressing my opinion. This is a conversation between BSB and me. I agree with a lot of your/his points. If you had bothered to read my post instead of trying to flame me at the first possible opportunity, maybe you wouldn't have written such a ham-handed response. Oh, and about the suicides? Yeah, I watched Katie tell us all about it on the CBS evening news the other night. You are just SO ENLIGHTENED!!! Your opinions are yours but don’t try to spell it all out like gospel to me. Oh, and by the way, the WHOLE country doesn’t see things like you do; the WHOLE country doesn’t see it as a waste and as a monumental mistake. Maybe the majority, but not the whole. That was my point in the post. Not everyone is a damn drone! You point the finger at me while you spout the same shit over and over again that has been ingrained in your head by Moveon.org and George Soros. Oh, and guess what? To your disappointment, the fucking surge is working!!! Civilian and military deaths were down in October and will be even lower in November. October saw the lowest amount roadside bombs since November 2003. Maybe we can actually get out of Iraq in a year or two without destroying what is left of our pride by “Bringing home the troops now!!!” But no, you made up your mind when Michael Moore and Howard Dean (Yeeaaahhh!!!!) told you that it was a losing effort. Let me tell you dude, I remember (vaguely) what this country went through after we ‘lost’ in Vietnam. I’m not really sure that I want to live thought that shit again.

i have read your posts - and you like to call people that disagree with you assholes etc. - the war in iraq was a mistake - and any success the "surge" might be having is moot - we shouldve never invaded iraq - im not a drone - you are - for you to admit the war you yourself had to fight in was a mistake would fry your wiring - you had to take orders and fight in a war that shouldve never been started - by us - im not anti war by the way - its an ugly necessity - im anti stupid pointless war - your a true red white and blue sheep - and like i said before - your not the only one in here thats been over there - but an you love to throw that around - i knew guys like you - scary - the usa can do no wrong - the plain truth is there are a lot of guys that serve for the wrong reasons - theyre deluted and just want to shoot some shit up - i know some and im sure you do to - for good or ill theyre very effective when he shit hits the fan - but theyre hard to turn off - weed and penthouse aint enough - have you got any whiskey pete stories you can share

I'm trying to keep myself as spoiler-free as possible with this movie. ROCKY BALBOA proved that Stallone has become a storyteller again, the kind that doesn't try too much with his characters, but instead goes to places built on universal and emotional themes (regret, loss and redemption). No, he's not reinventing the wheel by any stretch, but he's instead reinventing himself, which is remarkable (and worthy of our respect).

RE Dr Who
by spud mcspud
Nov 16th, 2007

After hearing their ideas about Rhys Ifans and John Simm for the Season 5 Doctor, and what they did to Martha's character - potentially a great character, so much promise and potential in the pilot, asking questions that Rose Tyler was so thick she's NEVER think of, being as scientifically minded and logical as the Doctor - was unforgiveable. I've written a lot about how I don't understand why RTD can't write gay characters in Who without resorting to banging the drum for gay rights, but here he's fucked up the opportunity to convincingly portray a contemporary black family in London. Everyone's either a rap-loving potential criminal (her brother) or portrayed as "black who wants to be white" (her mum and dad". I don't think RTD understands how to convincingly write characters that are of different social or racial spheres than his - which is kind of ironic, isn't it?

Bottom line: Catherine Tate will nail down the coffin lid on the RTD era that RTD put a lid on himself with Martha Potter and the Chamber of the Master, where the whole finale coud've been wrapped up by Martha's mum throwing Dobby Who a sock, but no, it had to be an under-written, poorly plotted, massively illogical (I can almost HEAR RTD'S booming Welsh lilt roaring at anyone who spots a plot hole, "But it's sci-fi!!!") drudge of an episode that was just unforgiveable shit. I mean, ripping the ending off FLASH FUCKING GORDON???

I'm actually not looking forward to Season 4 at all. I will watch it, if only for things to argue with Smashing and Tegujai Batir about. But I have next to no hope for this series now. Bring in Moffat before it gets put out of its misery.

ROBIN HOOD is actually more weatchable right about now. And that's after an extremely rocky, amateurish first half of Season 1, too...

Hey, thanks for the back up. And for the record, I was against the war; I do think that it was a mistake. I debated my friends for hours during the late fall and early winter of 2002/03 on why we shouldn't go in. They all laughed at me and told me that I was wrong. Now, five years later, I don't stand there and make comments to them or talk shit. We did it, we fucked up, but now we need to fix things. Not just cut and run like some of these genius posters want to do. And PS, I guarantee that much of this attitude (on both sides) comes from party lines. If Bill Clinton had launched the same invasion in 1994 or 1995 (which he almost did in 1998 - Operation Desert Fox), the majority of the people protesting right now would be more focused on the 'freedom' that the Iraqis have and how much better their health system is getting, etc. In fact, before the war started, I seem to remember many of my liberal friends always use this as a talking point: "We should have just finished the job when we had the chance." Sound familiar to anyone out there? Yeah, go ahead and lie to yourself about it too. Whatever. It is just like a broken record trying to discuss this with some people. And RedSky, how the FUCK dare you try to psycho-analyze me, throwing porn and weed into the equation. That simple, idiotic statement laid out how just how you feel about military men and women. You don’t know shit about a soldier or Marine. You don’t know what we go through and you have no grounds to complain about how we use our war experiences in arguments like this. Go hit your bowl and stroke to your porn, I have work to do…whether I agree with it or not.

No, sorry man, don't know anyone over there now. I was there in the early part of the operation, 2002-03 in and out of Kabul and Khandahar. At the time I was part of a light Cav (HMMWV) unit supporting SF. I'm in Artillery now and there aren't any Artillery assets in that part of the world. I have read some docs about it and do know some things. I'm no Colonel or anything, just an old fart Captain, but I hear shit. Things are things there. Every spring/summer, the jihadists come down from the mountains and begin a campaign. Ever winter they go back accross the border and hide. It is a tricky situation that one, but I don't really think that they will ever have the funding or manpower to overthrow the new AFG government. The AFG soldiers that I trained with were damn good, better even than the Iraqi soldiers who have had 5 years of hands-on with US forces. And this was back in 2003. I think that AFG will have a much brighter future then IRQ if things were to stop in place right now and we all got on boats and came home. Just my opinion.

Hey Bill sorry for the late reply, I had the damned white screen of doom yesterday and forgot about this TB.

I'm glad quite a few of us here are meeting in the middle ground and discussing issues with a clearer head. I found your last 2 posts extremely enlightening. I can see how your experience prior to the invasion (as an opposer) leading to the aftermath (as a supporter in that you want to remedy the situation) is totally logical, practical and deeply humanitarian. As much as we want our troops/fellow citizens to come home, it is indeed a frightening prospect for Iraq when they do so. Bush and the NeoCons have made possibly the biggest blunder in the history of human warfare. Time will (hopefully not) tell.

Thanks for having a clear head to clear the air. This is what the ideal situation should be - intelligent, informed discourse where both sides not only listen, but learn from each other. And I can tell you I learned a lot. Many thanks!
