Earlier this year they dominated pretty much all things Iron Man, now Trek... And I'm pretty sure they put some juicy shit out of the Indy set as well. Coïncidence?

Oh, and Quinto looks "pointy" enough, indeed. I'm not a Trekkie by any means, and I don't really care for this flick one way or the other, but it looks like Spock. Nice work.

With all due respect to TV actors, it's hard to make the move to film. Karl Urban (Pathfinder, Bourne 2) would have been a cooler Spock. Here it's kinda like your buddy from school is playing the role, giving it a bit of a B-level vibe. TV actors + a TV director might = wait for the DVD...

He just looks like another young Vulcan, to me. I don't see the resemblance to Nimoy, at all. If anything,Sylar more resembles Eli Roth. Oh, a quick comment about the plotline ovat at IESB. If that's what the film is about, it sounds interesting. However, i fail to see how this would revive TREK. Are we talking about going on with this cast? If that's the case, then that's just plain nuts. As a one off, this could be quite interesting. I'm just having trouble seeing how it's going to breathe any new life.

This will be very interesting. I'm old ... and was never a huge Trek fan, but I'm stoked to see what Abrams does with it. But the questions is, will "the kids" want to see it ... because the "Heroes" cast members are in it?! Or because the "Lost Guy" is writing/directing? The post about "seeing nothing but Sylar" cracked me up. Abrams is a genius.

01:21:08 PM
Don't you realize that only about 25% of the Trek movies and TV episodes are any good? To expect this to be some knock your socks off great film is a bit of a reach. Which of the Star Trek movies are great films? Seriously? Even the most died in the wool Trekkie must admit that alot of the Trek stuff is absolute shit. TOS, TNG, Voyager and DSN all had their good episodes and their bad and Enterprise sucked donkey balls. Some of the movies were good, others mediocre and others awful. Star Trek has always been a mixed bag, so why are you suddenly demanding perfection. Just be happy that they are trying to reboot the franchise. It might actually be good.

Both had the potential for greatness. They could have had deep involving plot lines and emotion laden scripts that were relatively well acted ...and we saw hints of this Empire and Kahn. Unfortunately we got pure crap in the end....manic toy selling CGI in place of plot...and 2 hour long TV shows on the big screen with all the depth of a dried lake and acting best suited to a typical Sci-Fi channel produced feature. It is simply God Damned Sad....and I just don't see how this new Trek will change all of that..especially given that this is the director that brought us those shining examples of directoral and writing prowess; Gone Fishin' and Armageddon.

... are you kidding me? How about the first one? When I want to really relax, I slot that one into the DVD player and skip to the extended scene where the Enterprise flies through the V'ger cloud... and flies through the V'ger cloud... and flies through the V'ger cloud... and we see close-up reaction shots of the entire 500+ crew members... and the Enterprise flies through the V'ger cloud... and ... I have a nice looong nap! Or what about Star Trek 5: Shatner's Folly? 'Nuff said, there. Or Generations with Kirk's epic death scene, "It's... been... fun!... Oh! Shakespearean in depth, that one. Or the one where they were fighting aliens who go to the same plastic surgeon as Cher and Goldie Hawn... or, err... something. I won't even mention Nemesis because that just wouldn't be a fair fight. No kiddies, there's been a LOT of really, really BAD Trek films, wake the f**k up!

... where Kirstie Alley (who was hot back then and looked good as a Vulcan) was replaced with 1980s-poofy-poodlecut-hairdo-c hick Vulcan. And friggin' Doc Brown as a Klingon!
Michael Rosenbaum as a young Picard!

Kirstie should have continued snorting up the GNP of Bolivia and stayed infested with Thetans, cuz the Post Parker Stevenson, Thetan Purged, trading coke addiction for food addiction Kirstie simply isn't worth my load.
"Good" vs. "Bad" Trek Movies

The way I see it, there have been exactly three "good" (as in, decently entertaining) Trek movies: II, III, and IV. Everyone gives VI a pass, because it was the swan swong of the old farts--and it was fun--but a Klingon Christopher Plumber spewing Cliff's Notes Shakespeare quotes doth not a good screenplay make. Everyone also gives First Contact a pass, becuase it had some serious Data and Picard on Borg action, but it was also two completely ridiculous and absoloutely imlausible movies for the price of one. (Hey, Borg go back in time? Hey, how bout next time, Borg blow up whole planet.) As much a hack methinks "Jar-Jar" McAbrams to be, there really is nowhere for this franchise to go but up.
About Kirstie...isn't it somewhat Ironic

that she didn't do Star Trek III because she didn't want to be seen as a Sci-Fi actress/involved with yet another Sci-Fi endevour, yet she is all to happy to live her every day life by following the Sci-Fi ramblings of a 3rd rate Sci-Fi novelist? All Hail Lord Xenu!

It was most like the series, and light comedy is the Shat's forte. Montalban with a plastic chest is entertaining and all, but it's too unRoddenberry. I'm going to go kill myself now.
The Voyage Home was goofy

and "un-Roddenberry" can be good. The first season of TNG was Roddenberry with total control and it was fucking gay.

But the lip pucker and the swishy cape don't belong on a starship. Maybe part of Starfleet Academy hazing ritual, the Epsilon Eridani frat.

Will the crew be wearing boots made for walking on the ship? That always seemed strange.

Sorry, people are getting hyped up for no absolute reason. JJ will NEVER capture the chemistry of Kirk-Spock-McCoy. I suspect that he wants to tap into the preexisting characterizations of Trek, but then go along and call it a reboot. Abrams, your reimagining mean nothing to me.
You know actually they weren't miniskirts...

... they were those culotte things... sort of a skirt/shorts chimera (look it up). Basically shorts with flaps on top to make 'em resemble a skirt. My guess is they were meant to prevent Pipple's "panty shot, panty shots." And besides, they all wore those thick-ass black pantyhose under them anyway. It was the 60s and people were real prudes back then.
